  • What's the best way to call jQuery scripts, in HTML/PHP template, or seperate js file?

    StackOverflow is telling me this is a subjective question, but I think it's a matter of fact! I have a number of scripts that I'm using on different parts of my site. In terms of making fewer http requests, I know it's better to combine all of these scripts into one .js file. However, isn't a waste of time for a page to call a .js full of 10 or 15 different functions when it's only using one? The other method I am using is to use PHP conditional statements... <?php if( is_page() ) { > $(document).ready(function(){ ... }); <?php } ?> What's the best method or comination of these methods?

  • Image swap with a javascript onclick dropdown menu

    So I've got this code that has an image and when you click it a dropdown menu appears. Pretty simple. The code works fine but I'm trying to incorporate an image swap on click and I'm having difficulty.   • Hide/Show some HTML table cells individually and align the remaining cells as they belong to the same row [closed]

    [Edited at the resquest of admins] The best way I can explain my problem is showning an example. I have the table that you can see on the link below (since I can't post images...), that ha a table head (blue) and four rows, whose cells are green and white in color. I just want the white cells to hide/show alternately by clicking on green cells, which would remain always visible as parent cells. After hiding white cells, the green ones should be aligned into the same row, as they would fit like tetris bricks.     I have a bunch of images that are guaranteed to have: minimum width = 200px maximum width = 250px minimum height = 150px maximum height = 175px What I want to do is display a consist 200px by 150px rectangle of the image while maintaining scale (no stretching or shrinking). Which means, I might have some overflow. How can I display the image so that it keeps porpotions to the original image size, yet displayed inside a 200x150 px window and hiding any overflow?

    Hi, I always see the th tag only used in the first row of the table. Is there some specific reason why it can't be used to create 'left' headers along the leftmost column. Is this bad form, or is this ok. Basically, a table with headings on the top row and the leftmost column, with the very top left square being empty. e.g. <table> <tr> <th/> <!--empty--> <th>Top 1</th> <th>Top 2</th></tr> <tr> <th>LeftHeader?</th> <td>data1</td> <td>data2</td></tr> </table>

  • How to create and remove an html hidden field using jquery?

    I am new to javascript and jquery so please bear with me. First of all here is my code so that you can test it to see whats wrong: http://jsfiddle.net/Lzw4e/1/ I want to create a new hidden field every time the user selects from the left <select> element and remove / destroy the hidden field when the user clicks the right <select> element. I used the jquery command $("<input type='hidden' value=selectedAddFootballPlayerId>"); but when I checked of firebug I can't see any hidden field being created. For removal of the hidden field I really don't know. Please help me. Thanks in advance.

    I fount this answer, but wanted to expand on the question and couldn't find any solutions here on stack or through searching google. Substring domainname from URL SQL Basically the link above solves my problem with a simple URL like parsing "www.google.com" with the result of google. What I am looking for to expand on that is the solution from the link above doesn't help with url's like 'www.maps.google.com' that just returns maps. WHat I would like is to have it return 'google' from the url 'www.maps.google.com' or return 'example' from 'www.test.example.com'. If anyone has a solution to this, I would greatly appreciate it. Update: To be more specific I will also need parsing on second level domains etc. 'www.maps.google.com.au' to return 'google' Here is my Sql function.   • Why cant I specify the width and height of a cell in an html table?

    I am using CSS but for the sake of quick testing i am just using a style tag. This is the code I am trying to implement: echo "<td style='height=10px; width=10px;'>"; it makes sure that the max width of the cell is 10px however the height overflows with the text so becomes very large (high). what I am trying to achieve is any information that is in that cell more than 30 charcters I want to hide so you cant see it. (I know 30 charaters is more than 10px but I am just playing to see if it worked!) Thanks guys.

    I'd like to use SimpleTest to set up some functionality tests for our project - in particular, we have a very busy page which has some random components and some static components, and I'd like to be able to write a simple test which only confirms the static bits (preferably only the one or two most important ones).     Hi guys. I made a website using AJAX (with jquery) for the navigation. The pages of the site are sliding and I use remove() to destroy the old page. Every thing seems alright, but some times the browser crashes when he tries to remove the old page containing a Flash object. I suppose this is because Flash is still executing the Flash object. My question is simple. How do i remove this Flash's object for my page without having the browser crashing on my face ? Is there a way to stop the Flash execution before removing the object ?     I'm developing a newsletter in asp.net that will be send to a large quantity of users, so each kilobyte that I can reduce will help a lot in the use of bandwidth consumption, what I do until know is write the aspx excluding some spaces between tags, and before render, i've renamed some controls ids to "-" to save more space. So now, the file has 50kb. I need a file with 25 Kb. Can anyone teach me any other way do save more space ? ps.: I Use 3 divs with some data, and 2 repeaters, one inside other, to generate a table with some data for me. thanks in advance

  • (HTML) PNG on top of another PNG - possible to eliminate full transparency?

    I'd like to put a logo png onto of another coloured png. They both have transparent backgrounds. When I try this the images blend together. Curiously, in Photoshop the logo retains its opaque-ness - I put colours on the layers underneath it, another image, etc etc, the logo is still opaque. I'd like to do it this way so I can rotate the background images. How do I fix this? [edit]I've cooked up an example image: http://i.imgur.com/XtoGn.png The left is what I want to happen, the right is what happens on all browsers (I know the background isn't transparent but bear with me - they're both transparent pngs, with the background having a gradient layer mask). I've put the images like this <div> <img id="backgroundImg" style="position: absolute; top: 0;" src="/Images/background.png" /> <img id="logoImg" src="/Images/logo.png" /> </div> I'm not entirely sure what blending mode I'm using in PS.
