  Hello, I am runninig test's with Python Unittest. I am running tests but I want to do negative testing and I would like to test if a function throw's an exception, it passes but if no exception is thrown the test fail's. The script I have is: try: result = self.client.service.GetStreamUri(self.stream, self.token) self.assertFalse except suds.WebFault, e: self.assertTrue else: self.assertTrue This alway's passes as True even when the function work's perfectly. I have also tried various other way's including: try: result = self.client.service.GetStreamUri(self.stream, self.token) self.assertFalse except suds.WebFault, e: self.assertTrue except Exception, e: self.assertTrue Does anyone have any suggestions? • How to set parameters in Python zlib module

  I want to write a Python program that makes PNG files. My big problem is with generating the CRC and the data in the IDAT chunk. Python 2.6.4 does have a zlib module, but there are extra settings needed. The PNG specification REQUIRES the IDAT data to be compressed with zlib's deflate method with a window size of 32768 bytes, but I can't find how to set those parameters in the Python zlib module. As for the CRC for each chunk, the zlib module documentation indicates that it contains a CRC function. I believe that calling that CRC function as crc32(data,-1) will generate the CRC that I need, though if necessary I can translate the C code given in the PNG specification. Note that I can generate the rest of the PNG file and the data that is to be compressed for the IDAT chunk, I just don't know how to properly compress the image data for the IDAT chunk after implementing the initial filtering step.

• Any reason not to always log stack traces?

  Encountered a frustrating problem in our application today which came down to an ArrayIndexOutOfBounds exception being thrown. The exception's type was just about all that was logged which is fairly useless (but, oh dear legacy app, we still love you, mostly). I've redeployed the application with a change which logs the stack trace on exception handling (and immediately found the root cause of the problem) and wondered why no one else did this before. Do you generally log the stack trace and is there any reason you wouldn't do this? Bonus points if you can explain (why, not how) the rationale behind having to jump hoops in java to get a string representation of a stack trace!

A typical child specification is as follows: {my_server, {my_server, start_link, [123]}, permanent, 5000, worker, [my_server]} No problems so far. I now want to an add extra gen_server to the supervisor structure, using the same module Module/Fn as above, but different arguments, eg {my_server_2, {my_server, start_link, [123]}, permanent, 5000, worker, [my_server_2]} I thought this would work, but no: =SUPERVISOR REPORT==== 15-Apr-2010::16:50:13 === Supervisor: {local,my_sup} Context: start_error Reason: {already_started,<0.179.0>} Offender: [{pid,undefined}, {name,my_server_2}, {mfa,{my_server,start_link,[]}}, {restart_type,permanent}, {shutdown,5000}, {child_type,worker}] Do the module arguments in the second element of each child specification need to be different ? • C# Compiler should give warning but doesn't?

  Someone on my team tried fixing a 'variable not used' warning in an empty catch clause. try { ... } catch (Exception ex) { } - gives a warning about ex not being used. So far, so good. The fix was something like this: try { ... } catch (Exception ex) { string s = ex.Message; } Seeing this, I thought "Just great, so now the compiler will complain about s not being used." But it doesn't! There are no warnings on that piece of code and I can't figure out why. Any ideas? PS. I know catch-all clauses that mute exceptions are a bad thing, but that's a different topic. I also know the initial warning is better removed by doing something like this, that's not the point either. try { ... } catch (Exception) { } or try { ... } catch { }

• How to determine pixel color of System.Windows.Controls.Image?

  I have an Image from (System.Windows.Controls.Image). This image is positioned on a main canvas. I want to determine the alpha channel value of the mouse cursor when I click on any portion of this image.   Following situation: I'm developing an windows mobile application using the sdk 6. Target machine is a nautiz x7. To improve the error reporting I want to catch the structured exceptions (SEH) and do a stack backtrace to store some information for analysis. So far I have the information where the exception was thrown (windows core.dll) and I can backtrace the return adresses thru the stack. But what I want to know is, which instruction in my code caused the exception? Does anyone know how to use the available exception and context information to get the appropriate function/instruction address? Unfortunately windows mobile 6 sdk for pocketpc does not support all the helper functions to do stackwalks or mini dumps.

When the applciation was built, all assemblies were compiled with full debug info (Project Properties - Build - Advanced - Debug Info - Full), and so PDB files were generated. To help me diagnose where the error is coming from, I dropped the PDB files into the application's bin directory, and reproduced the exception. All line numbers for each stack frame look correct, with the exception of one which displays "line 0" as its source.

• How can I debug or set a break statement inside an expression tree?

  When an external library contains a LINQ provider, and it throws an exception when executing a dynamic expression tree, how can I break when that expression is thrown? For example, I use a third party LINQ2CRM provider, which allows me to call the Max<TSource, TResult>() method of IQueryable, but when it throws an InvalidCastException, I fail to break on the spot when the exception is thrown, making it hard to review the stack-trace because it's already unwinded when the debugger breaks it in my code. I've set "break on throw" for the mentioned exception. My debug settings are: Clarification on where exactly I'd want to break. I do not want to break in side the LINQ Expression, but instead, I want to break when the expression tree is executed, or, put in other words, when the IQueryable extension method Max() calls the override provided by the LINQ provider. • getResourceAsStream not loading resource

  The project that I am currently working on utilizes an old application contained within a .jar file. One of the responsibilities of this application is that it updates the database when changes to the configuration files are made. Every time I try to run this file (which is a simple Ant Task extension), I get an exception thrown early in the process. I decompiled the Java file responsible, and found that the exception being thrown happens here. I do not know what the issue is, as "hibernate.cfg.xml" is contained within the same .jar file as the .class throwing the exception.   I have my project in .NET that uses a db in MSSQL Server,i'm using LINQ , sometimes when the projec throws me an exception (Constraint) in a part of the project this same error keeps showing in other part of the project when i do another thing with the db, like when i do an insertion and i had before an exception on delete the insertion throws me the delete exeption, and it remainds this way until i close and open again the project, my major problem is when this happen in my online project, this error in my project causes me problems in the project i'm testing online (i use the same db). I don't know if this exception is on the memory or something but its have been causing me a lot of headechs.

  In the OAuth 2.0 draft specification, user-agent clients receive authorization in the form of a bearer token via redirection (from an authentication server) to a URL such as HTTP/1.1 302 Found Location: http://example.com/rd#access_token=FJQbwq9&expires_in=3600 According to Section 3.5.2 it is then the user-agent's job to GET the URL in question, but "The user-agent SHALL NOT include the fragment component with the request." In other words, as a result of the example redirection above, the user-agent should GET /rd HTTP/1.1 Host: example.com without passing #access_token to the server. My question: what user agents behave this way? I thought redirection in Firefox, for example, would (logically) include the fragment in the GET request. Am I just wrong about this, or does the OAuth 2.0 specification rely on non-standard user-agent behavior?

• Column.DbType affecting runtime behavior

  Hi According to the MSDN docs, the DbType property/attribute of a Column type/element is only used for database creation. Yet, today, when trying to submit data to an IMAGE column on a SQLCE database (not sure if only on CE), I got an exception of 'Data truncated to 8000 bytes'. This was due to the DbType still being defined as VARBINARY(MAX) which SQLCE does not support. Changing the type to IMAGE in the DbType fixes the issue. So what other surprises does Linq2SQL attributes hold in store? Is this a bug or intended? Should I report it to MS? UPDATE After getting the answer from Guffa, I tested it, but it seems for NVARCHAR(10) adding a 11 char length string causes a SQL exception, and not Linq2SQL one. The data was truncated while converting from one data type to another. Now in order to check concurrency condition I tried the following use case opened application in chrome and firefox browser. deleted user in firefox now trying to delete the same user in chrome browser I get exception org.hibernate.StaleObjectStateException .. which is right .. since I am trying to delete an object which doesn't exists.
