  • Make jQuery-ui draggable handle cover entire page

    - by Acorn
    What would be the best way to make an element draggable when clicking anywhere in the window? Would I have to use a container <div> that covers the whole window? I tried making the body draggable but that didn't work. The problem with using a container <div> is that it moves and therefore doesn't cover the whole of the screen any more after it has been dragged. What about making a really vast container <div> that spans a large number of pixels in every direction so you would never get to the edge of it. Is that a bad idea? The idea (simplified) is to have a page with a square in the middle that can be dragged by dragging any part of the window. Here's a wonderfully unnecessary mockup :)

  • Adding to a multidimensional array in PHP

    - by b. e. hollenbeck
    I have an array being returned from the database that looks like so: $data = array(201 => array('description' => blah, 'hours' => 0), 222 => array('description' => feh, 'hours' => 0); In the next bit of code, I'm using a foreach and checking the for the key in another table. If the next query returns data, I want to update the 'hours' value in that key's array with a new hours value: foreach ($data as $row => $value){ $query = $db->query($sql); if ($result){ $value['hours'] = $result['hours']; } I've tried just about every combination of declarations for the foreach loop, but I keep getting the error that it's a non-object. Surely this is easier than my brain is perceiving it.

  • CSS line wrapping

    - by Mic
    Given a block container <div> this is a very long string which contains a bunch of characters that I want to break at container edges. </div> are there any css properties I can set to force it to break when it reaches the container width, regardless of the contents of the string, for example a break like: this is a ve ry long stri ng which ... is pretty much what I want. Right now, it seems to always prefer to break at whitespace characters or other special characters (such as /).

  • Exception in NHunspell

    I have used the following code for spelling checking.While i am running that i am getting an exception--" The code is: using (Hunspell hunspell = new Hunspell("en_us.aff", "en_us.dic")) { bool correct = hunspell.Spell("Recommendation"); var suggestions = hunspell.Suggest("Recommendatio"); foreach (string suggestion in suggestions) { Console.WriteLine("Suggestion is: " + suggestion); } } // Hyphen using (Hyphen hyphen = new Hyphen("hyph_en_us.dic")) { var hyphenated = hyphen.Hyphenate("Recommendation"); } using (MyThes thes = new MyThes("th_en_us_new.idx", "th_en_us_new.dat")) { using (Hunspell hunspell = new Hunspell("en_us.aff", "en_us.dic")) { ThesResult tr = thes.Lookup("cars", hunspell); foreach (ThesMeaning meaning in tr.Meanings) { Console.WriteLine(" Meaning: " + meaning.Description); foreach (string synonym in meaning.Synonyms) { Console.WriteLine(" Synonym: " + synonym); } } }

  • Cleaning up code - flatten a nested hash structure

    - by knorv
    The following Perl sub flattens a nested hash structure: sub flatten { my $hashref = shift; my %hash; my %i = %{$hashref}; foreach my $ii (keys(%i)) { my %j = %{$i{$ii}}; foreach my $jj (keys(%j)) { my %k = %{$j{$jj}}; foreach my $kk (keys(%k)) { my $value = $k{$kk}; $hash{$kk} = $value; } } } return %hash; } While the code works it is not very readable or clean. My question is two-fold: In what ways does it not correspond to modern Perl best practices? How would you clean it up?

  • How to make overflow: hidden really hide content?

    - by tambourine
    Please, look at this example. I intend making horizontal layout with pure html/css, don't bother of old browsers. I made it with display: table technique. But displaying main text containers (light-yellow) became a problem. Each of this has overflow: hidden to prevent vertical scroll. Later, I intend adding some shadow effect at the bottom. Now, I want to make in, for example, 80% height with 10% margin top and bottom. But what I get is container with larger text stretching all parents container (light-green), so 80% of it became too much. Is there any way to avoid it without javascript? Maybe I can get text container any height, but with some margin at the bottom. I will appreciate any solution.

  • Creating a Custom UserControl TestContainer for Visual Studio

    - by AMissico
    I like to use the "UserControl TestContainer" that works great for testing a controls properties during design time. Yet it has limitations. Usually, I just create a Windows Form Application to test the control's run-time interface. It would be nice to combine the two phases. Today, I discovered that the test-container is defined in the project file as show below. What I like to do is create my own test-container and use it for my Windows Forms Control Library projects in Visual Studio 2008. I cannot find any specific documentation, and the documentation I found was related to MSTest and not helpful. Any help, suggestions, or research directions for implementing my own test-container? <ItemGroup> <Service Include="{94E38DFF-614B-4cbd-B67C-F211BB35CE8B}" /> </ItemGroup>

  • Can't get results from a IQueryable.

    - by StackPointer
    Hi! I have the following code in Linq to Entity: var policy= from pol in conn.Policy where pol.Product.DESCRIPTION=="someProduct" SELECT pol; Then, the table Policy, has some dependencies for a table called Entity. If I do this: foreach(Policy p in policy){ if(!p.Entity.IsLoaded) p.Entity.Load(); IEnumerable<Entity> entities= from ent in p.Entity Where ent.EntityType.DESCRIPTION=="SomeEntityType" select ent; Console.Writeline(entities.ElementAt(0).NAME); } It says, "Object not set to an instance", but if I do: foreach(Policy p in policy){ if(!p.Entity.IsLoaded) p.Entity.Load(); foreach(Entity et in p.Entity)Console.Write(et.NAME); } It works! Can anyone tell me why? Thank you, Best regards.

  • fade in all divs of a page. once the content of the divs is loaded

    - by daniel
    I want all the divs on my page to fade in after the content is loaded. The code below loads in all imgs in the #div container. Which is great. but it does not load in images that are used as div background images loaded through the css file. So i think the most effective way is to create a piece of code that fades in all the divs on the page after the content ie: images and text has loaded. Is there A way to do this. Cheers. $(document).ready(function() { $('#container img').fadeIn(4000); // and tell pending images to do the same, once they've finished loading: $('#container img').load(function () { $(this).fadeIn(4000); }); });

  • Enumerating all combinations of lists of different types

    - by jball
    Given two IEnumberables of different types, what is the best practice (considering readability and maintainability) for iterating over both lists to perform an action on all possible combinations? My initial solution was to use nested foreach loops, iterating over the first IEnumerable, and then within that loop, iterating over the second IEnumerable and passing the value from the outer and the current loop into the target method. Eg.: enum ParamOne { First, Second, Etc } List<int> paramTwo = new List<int>() { 1, 2, 3 }; void LoopExample() { foreach (ParamOne alpha in Enum.GetValues(typeof(ParamOne))) { foreach (int beta in paramTwo) { DoSomething(alpha, beta); } } } I tried to restructure it with LINQ, but ended up with something that had no obvious advantages and seemed less intuitive. A search here shows lots of questions about nesting foreachs to iterate over child properties, but I couldn't find anything about iterating over two distinct lists.

  • How do you refresh the contents of an R gWidget?

    - by Richie Cotton
    I'm creating a GUI in R using gWidgets (more specifically gWidgetstcltk). I'd like to know how to update the contents of selection-type widgets, such as gdroplist and gtable. I currently have a rather hackish method of deleting the widget and re-creating it. I'm sure there's a better way. This simple example displays all the variables in the global environment. library(gWidgets) library(gWidgetstcltk) create.widgets <- function() { grp <- ggroup(container = win) ddl <- gdroplist(ls(envir = globalenv()), container = grp) refresh <- gimage("refresh", dirname = "stock", container = grp, handler = function(h, ...) { if(exists("grp") && !is.null(grp)) { delete(win, grp) rm(grp) } grp <- create.widgets() } ) } win <- gwindow() grp <- create.widgets()

  • How to switch images with jquery ?

    - by eemceebee
    Hi I have a simple setup with one big image container and 3 smaller thumbnail containers. Now when I click on the thumbnail I want to switch the big image and the small thumbnail image, so that the big image container has now the bigger sized thumbnail and the thumbnail container shows the thumbnail view of the before big image. <div class="thumbnailFloat"> <img src="data/img_2.jpg" width="60" > <img src="data/img_3.jpg" width="60" > <img src="data/img_4.jpg" width="60" > </div> <div class="imageFloat"> <img src="data/img_1.jpg" width="180" height="250"> </div> Thanks for helping out.

  • Help porting a bit of Prototype JavaScript to jQuery

    - by ewall
    I have already implemented some AJAX pagination in my Rails app by using the example code for the will_paginate plugin--which is apparently using Prototype. But if I wanted to switch to using jQuery for future additions, I really don't want to have the Prototype stuff sitting around too (yes, I know it's possible). I haven't written a lick of JavaScript in years, let alone looked into Prototype and jQuery... so I could use some help converting this bit into jQuery-compatible syntax: document.observe("dom:loaded", function() { // the element in which we will observe all clicks and capture // ones originating from pagination links var container = $(document.body) if (container) { var img = new Image img.src = '/images/spinner.gif' function createSpinner() { return new Element('img', { src: img.src, 'class': 'spinner' }) } container.observe('click', function(e) { var el = e.element() if (el.match('.pagination a')) { el.up('.pagination').insert(createSpinner()) new Ajax.Request(el.href, { method: 'get' }) e.stop() } }) } }) Thanks in advance!

  • How can I generate a list of words made up of combinations of three word lists in Perl?

    - by Chris Denman
    I have three lists of words. I would like to generate a single list of all the combinations of words from the three lists. List 1: red green blue List 2: one two List 3: apple banana The final list would like like so: red one apple red two apple red one banana red two banana ... and so on Ideally I'd like to pass in three arrays and the routine return one array. I have done a simple loop like so: foreach $word1 (@list1){ foreach $word2 (@list2){ foreach $word3 (@list3){ print "$word1 $word2 $word3\n"; } } } However, this doesn't work if there's nothing in the second or third list (I may only want to iterate between one, two or three lists at a time - in other words, if I only supply two lists it should iterate between those two lists).

  • More elegant way to make a C++ member function change different member variables based on template p

    - by Eric Moyer
    Today, I wrote some code that needed to add elements to different container variables depending on the type of a template parameter. I solved it by writing a friend helper class specialized on its own template parameter which had a member variable of the original class. It saved me a few hundred lines of repeating myself without adding much complexity. However, it seemed kludgey. I would like to know if there is a better, more elegant way. The code below is a greatly simplified example illustrating the problem and my solution. It compiles in g++. #include <vector> #include <algorithm> #include <iostream> namespace myNS{ template<class Elt> struct Container{ std::vector<Elt> contents; template<class Iter> void set(Iter begin, Iter end){ contents.erase(contents.begin(), contents.end()); std::copy(begin, end, back_inserter(contents)); } }; struct User; namespace WkNS{ template<class Elt> struct Worker{ User& u; Worker(User& u):u(u){} template<class Iter> void set(Iter begin, Iter end); }; }; struct F{ int x; explicit F(int x):x(x){} }; struct G{ double x; explicit G(double x):x(x){} }; struct User{ Container<F> a; Container<G> b; template<class Elt> void doIt(Elt x, Elt y){ std::vector<Elt> v; v.push_back(x); v.push_back(y); Worker<Elt>(*this).set(v.begin(), v.end()); } }; namespace WkNS{ template<class Elt> template<class Iter> void Worker<Elt>::set(Iter begin, Iter end){ std::cout << "Set a." << std::endl; u.a.set(begin, end); } template<> template<class Iter> void Worker<G>::set(Iter begin, Iter end){ std::cout << "Set b." << std::endl; u.b.set(begin, end); } }; }; int main(){ using myNS::F; using myNS::G; myNS::User u; u.doIt(F(1),F(2)); u.doIt(G(3),G(4)); } User is the class I was writing. Worker is my helper class. I have it in its own namespace because I don't want it causing trouble outside myNS. Container is a container class whose definition I don't want to modify, but is used by User in its instance variables. doIt<F> should modify a. doIt<G> should modify b. F and G are open to limited modification if that would produce a more elegant solution. (As an example of one such modification, in the real application F's constructor takes a dummy parameter to make it look like G's constructor and save me from repeating myself.) In the real code, Worker is a friend of User and member variables are private. To make the example simpler to write, I made everything public. However, a solution that requires things to be public really doesn't answer my question. Given all these caveats, is there a better way to write User::doIt?

  • [C++] Is it possible to use threads to speed up file reading ?

    - by Mister Mystère
    Hi there, I want to read a file as fast as possible (40k lines) [Edit : the rest is obsolete]. Edit: Andres Jaan Tack suggested a solution based on one thread per file, and I want to be sure I got this (thus this is the fastest way) : One thread per entry file reads it whole and stocks its content in a container associated (- as many containers as there are entry files) One thread calculates the linear combination of every cell read by the input threads, and stocks the results in the exit container (associated to the output file). One thread writes by block (every 4kB of data, so about 10 lines) the content of the output container. Should I deduce that I must not use m-mapped files (because the program's on standby waiting for the data) ? Thanks aforehand. Sincerely, Mister mystère.

  • Why won't this compile and how can it be implemented so that it does?

    - by George Edison
    Here is some C++ code I'm playing around with: #include <iostream> #include <vector> #define IN , #define FOREACH(x,y) for(unsigned int i=0;i<y.size();i++) { x=y[i]; #define ENDFOREACH } using namespace std; int main() { vector<int> ints; ints.push_back(3); ints.push_back(4); ints.push_back(5); ints.push_back(6); FOREACH(int item IN ints) cout << item; ENDFOREACH return 0; } However, I get an error: macro "FOREACH" requires 2 arguments, but only 1 given The code compiles if I change the IN to a comma. How can I get the IN to take the place of a comma?

  • QTMovieView always remains at top

    - by Pickasaby
    I have made an applications which contains a main canvas view. In which i add some subview (NSView) of different kind. Means say subView1 is a container for PDFView, subView 2 is a container for a WebView and subView 3 is a container for QTMovieView. I can select and drag these views on main canvas view. The strange thing that happens is, when ever i drag a subview 1 or 2 and it intersects subview 3, sunbview 3 never allows any other view to come on top of it, coz it contains a 'QTMovieView' . I tried replacing QTMovieView with QTMovieLayer, and then attach a QTMovie with QTMovieLayer, still the problem prevails. Is there any way so that my QTMovieView/QTMovieLayer acts in a normal manner as does other NSView do.

  • SQL returns non-array value in PHP

    - by DeadMG
    $request = 'SELECT * FROM flight WHERE Id = \''.$_SESSION['LFLightRadio'].'\''; $data = mysql_fetch_array(mysql_query($request, $SQL)); echo '<table class="table">'; foreach($data as $key => $value) { echo '<th class="head" align="center" height="19">'.$key.'</th>'; } echo '<tr>'; foreach($data as $key => $value) { echo '<td class="cell" align="center" height="19">'.$value.'</td>'; } echo '</tr></table>'; I know that the LFlightRadio value is set, and is a value returned by the Id value of a previously returned row from the flight database. So within "flight", a record definitely exists with this Id. But, this still gives me a non-array result, so that when I try to use foreach on it, it errors out. Suggestions?

  • remove/restore elements, maintaining their events and element's children

    - by Emin
    I came to a situation where I need to edit the following in a way that, on some event (lets assume the 'click' event in this case) I need to remove (or unwrap?) the .container and the .header and have the .itemlist still visible/available on the page. And then, I need to restore .container and .header back again on some other event, while still maintain the event listeners on the a tags, and if possible, without removing the said items from the DOM. Is this possible? <ul class="container"> <li class="header"><a href="#">delete</a> | <a href="#">edit</a></li> <ul class="itemlist"> <li>some item</li> <li>some other item</li> </ul> </ul>

  • A simple string array Iteration in C# .NET doesn't work

    - by met.lord
    This is a simple code that should return true or false after comparing each element in a String array with a Session Variable. The thing is that even when the string array named 'plans' gets the right attributes, inside the foreach it keeps iterating only over the first element, so if the Session Variable matches other element different than the first one in the array it never returns true... You could say the problem is right there in the foreach cicle, but I cant see it... I've done this like a hundred times and I can't understand what am I doing wrong... Thank you protected bool ValidatePlans() { bool authorized = false; if (RequiredPlans.Length > 0) { string[] plans = RequiredPlans.Split(','); foreach (string plan in plans) { if (MySessionInfo.Plan == plan) authorized = true; } } return authorized; }

  • A $_GET input paramter that's an Array

    - by donpal
    I'm trying to pass 3 parameter to a script, where the 3rd parameter $_GET['value3'] is supposed to be an array $_GET['value1'] $_GET['value2'] $_GET['value3'] //an array of items I'm calling the script like this: (notice my syntax for value3, I'm not sure it's correct) http://localhost/test.php?value1=test1&value2=test2&value3=[the, array, values] I then use a foreach to hopefully loop through the third parameter value3 which is the array //process the first input $_GET['value1'] //process the second input $_GET['value2'] //process the third input $_GET['value3'] which is the array foreach($_GET['value3'] as $arrayitem){ echo $arrayitem; } but I get the error Invalid argument supplied for foreach() I'm not sure if my methodology is correct. Can some clarify how you'd go about doing the sort of thing
