  • use ngen and bundle .NET dlls to run application in .NET-less machine?

    AFAIK, ngen turns MSIL into native code (also reffered to as pre-JIT), however I never payed too much attention at it's startup performance impact. Ngen'd applications still require the .NET base class libraries (the runtime). Since the base class libraries have everything our .NET assemblies need (correct?) would it be possible to ship the framework's DLLs with my ngen'd application so that it does not require the runtime to be installed? (e.g., the scenario for most Windows XP machines) Oh, and please don't bother mentioning Remotesoft's Salamander Linker or Xenocode's Postbuild. They are not for my (and many's) current budget (and they seem to simply bundle the framework in a virtualized enviroinment, which means big download sizes and slow startup times I believe)

    I know that memory alloced using new, gets its space in heap, and so we need to delete it before program ends, to avoid memory leak. Let's look at this program... Case 1: char *MyData = new char[20]; _tcscpy(MyData,"Value"); . . . delete[] MyData; MyData = NULL; Case 2: char *MyData = new char[20]; MyData = "Value"; . . . delete[] MyData; MyData = NULL; In case 2, instead of allocating value to the heap memory, it is pointing to a string literal. Now when we do a delete it would crash, AS EXPECTED, since it is not trying to delete a heap memory. Is there a way to know where the pointer is pointing to heap or stack? By this the programmer Will not try to delete any stack memory He can investigate why does this ponter, that was pointing to a heap memory initially, is made to refer local literals? What happened to the heap memory in the middle? Is it being made to point by another pointer and delete elsewhere and all that?

  • Problem running a simple EJB application

    I am currently running a simple EJB application using a stateless Session Bean. I am working on NetBeans 6.8 with Personal Glassfish 3.0 and I have installed on my system both the Java EE and the Java SE. I don't know whether it is relevent but I am running Windows7 64-bit version. The Session Bean I implemented has just one method sayHello(); which just prints hello on the screen.     I'm trying to get the count of the number of times a player played each week like this: player.game_objects.extra(select={'week': 'WEEK(`games_game`.`date`)'}).aggregate(count=Count('week')) But Django complains that FieldError: Cannot resolve keyword 'week' into field. Choices are: <lists model fields> I can do it in raw SQL like this SELECT WEEK(date) as week, COUNT(WEEK(date)) as count FROM games_game WHERE player_id = 3 GROUP BY week Is there a good way to do this without executing raw SQL in Django?

    I have an iPhone App linked against iPhone SDK 4.0 but as deployment target I selected OS 3.1.   • System halts for a fraction of second after every 2-3 seconds

    I'm using Windows 7 on my HP ProBook 4250s. The problem I face is that my system halts for a fraction of second after every 2-3 seconds. These jerks are not letting me concentrate or work properly. This happens even when I'm just typing in notepad while no other application is running. The client side is using a windows form application that are base on Windows XP OS while the server is a web base application. This question are related to the client application (Windows Form). This application are using Sql Server Express Edition for data storage. The data is stored in XML object format. It also can transfer a data from client to server via web service. It also interact with hardware such as Magnetic Stripe Reader, Contactless Smart Card Reader, and a thermal printer. Most of the communication between hardware device and systems are base on Serial Port. It is use standard app.config for the configuration and is a multi threaded application. There is a new requirement to use a Handheld device which is use a Windows CE platform. This handheld included the required equipment such as Contactless Smart Card Reader, Printer and Magnetic Stripe Reader. Instead of developing a new client application, is it possible to me to convert my current application that are base on Windows XP to Windows CE? If yes, how can I do that?     Hi everyone, im trying to implement some behaviors when a mapview element scrolls... by coding a delegate for the scrollview inside of a mapview. so, right now, i got a pointer to the scroll view used by the map view in my code. however, i wish to set the delegate of this scroll view inside the map view, but the issue is that the mapview already sets up a default delegate for this scroll view inside the map view. can i make my delegate implement all of the messages of the protocol, explicitly sending them to the mapview's default delegate while also implementing my own behaviors? how else can i go about adding my own delegate behavior, to an already existing default delegate....? thanks everyone, michael

Is there a way for me to invoke a .cmd or .bat file that will affect the environment of the nmake.exe process? Suppose I put the statement set value=77 in a file called "setvalue.cmd". Then change the makefile to this: example : setvalue echo %%value%% I get: %value% Alternatively, if there's a way to set a macro within a command block, that would also work. Or, a way to set the value of a macro from a batch file, even outside a command block.

The reason is I will have a function which first checks an SKU for a Description, if it is not present - it uses this method to get a Description from a Similar Product, then updates the product being added with the similar product's description. I want to avoid simply checking for the shell and running a shell-specific code. If this is possible, are there any guides on how to do it? I have always written my scripts for Bourne shell syntax, and I know next to nothing about csh, so this may be a stupid question. I have Google'd for the differences between shells, but there is little information (as far as I can tell) on its implications for scripting.
