  • msysgit git-am can't apply it's own git format-patch sequence

    - by Andrian Nord
I'm using msysgit git on windows to operate on central svn repository. I'm using git as I want to have it's awesome little local branches for everything and rebasing on each other. I also need to update from central repo often, so using separate svn/git is not an option. Problem is - git svn --help (man page) says that it is not a good idea to use git merge into master branch (which is set to track from svn's trunk) from local branches, as this will ruin the party and git svn dcommit would not work anymore. I know that it's not exactly true and you may use git merge if you are merging from branch which was properly rebased on master prior merge, but I'm trying to make it safer and actually use git format-patch and git am. We are using code review, so I'm making patches anyway. I also knew about git cherry-pick, but I want to just git am /reviewed/patches/dir/* without actually recalling what commits was corresponding to this patches (without reading patches, that is). So, what's wrong with git svn and git am? It's simple - git am for a few very hard points is doing CRLF into LF conversion for patches supplied (git-mailsplit is doing this, to be precise), if not rebasing. git format-patch is also producing proper (LF-ended) patches. As my repo is mostly CRLF (and it should remain so), patches are, obviously, failing due to wrong EOL. Converting diffs to CRLF and somehow hacking git am to prevent it from conversion is not working, too. It will fail if any file was removed or deleted - git apply will complain about expected /dev/null (but he got /dev/null^M). And if I'm applying it with git am --ignore-space-change --ignore-whitespace that it will commit LF endings straight to the index, which is also weird. I don't know if it will preserve over commiting into svn (via git svn dcommit) and checking it out and I don't want to try out. Of course, it's still possible to try hacking around patches to convert only actual diffs, but this is too much hacks for simple task. So, I wonder, is there really no established way to produce patches and apply them to the same repo on the same system? It just feels weird that msysgit can't apply it's own patches.

  • python __import__ problem

    - by Anurag Uniyal
I have a messages folder(package) with __init__.py file and another module messages_en.py inside it. In __init__.py if I import messages_en it works, but __import__ fails with "ImportError: No module named messages_en" import messages_en # it works messages = __import__('messages_en') # it doesn't ? I used to think 'import x' is just another way of saying __import__('x')

  • How to upgrade a 1.4.3 TortoiseSVN created repository to 1.6.x?

    - by SiegeX
A few years ago we deployed TortoiseSVN 1.4.3 to our software development team and we used this client to create a repository on a share point. We are now looking at upgrading to the latest 1.6.x version of TortoiseSVN. I had hoped this would be transparent as the additional features and modifications will all be client-side. For the most part this is true except for a very important feature -- merging. When I try to merge a feature branch back into truck I get a "Merge tracking not supported error." So now the question becomes, how does one upgrade a 1.4.3 TortoiseSVN created repo to be compatible with the latest 1.6.x version of TortoiseSVN? As a follow up question, if we were to successfully upgrade the repo such that the 1.6.x client works flawlessly, will we still be backwards compatible with a 1.4.x client?

  • How to retrieve caller context object in Ruby ?

    - by David
Hi, hereafter is my piece of code that I want to simplify in order to avoid passing an extra argument on each call : module M def do_something(context) puts "Called from #{context}" end module_function :do_something end class Foo def do_stuff M.do_something(self) end end Foo.new.do_stuff Is there a way to do the same think without passing 'self' as an input argument to 'do_something' method like this ? module M def do_something puts "Called from #{method that returns caller object}" end module_function :do_something end class Foo def do_stuff M.do_something end end Foo.new.do_stuff Thanks for your support!

  • How GAE emulator limits list of available Python modules?

    - by Konstantin
I installed Python Mock module using PIP. When I try to import mock running under 'dev_appserver', GAE says that it can't find module 'mock'. import mock works perfectly in Python interpreter. I understand that dev_appserver behaves absolutely correctly because I can't install modules with PIP on GAE servers. My question is how technically dev_appserver filters list of modules that can be loaded?

  • Python __import__ parameter confusion

I'm trying to import a module, while passing some global variables, but it does not seem to work: File test_1: test_2 = __import__("test_2", {"testvar": 1}) File test_2: print testvar This seems like it should work, and print a 1, but I get the following error when I run test_1: Traceback (most recent call last): File ".../test_1.py", line 1, in <module> print testvar NameError: name 'testvar' is not defined What am I doing wrong?

  • merging arrays of hashes

    - by Ben
    I have two arrays of hashes. Array1 => [{attribute_1 = A, attribute_2 = B}, {attribute_1 = A, attribute_2 = B}] Array2 => [{attribute_3 = C, attribute_2 = D}, {attribute_3 = C, attribute_4 = D}] Each hash in the array is holding attributes for an object. In the above example, there are two objects that I'm working with. There are two attributes in each array for each object How do I merge the two arrays? I am trying to get a single array (there is no way to get a single array from the start because I have to make two different API calls to get these attributes). DesiredArray => [{attribute_1 = A, attribute_2 = B, attribute_3 = C, attribute_2 = D}, {attribute_1 = A, attribute_2 = B, attribute_3 = C, attribute_2 = D}] I've tried a couple things, including the iteration methods and the merge method, but I've been unable to get the array I need.

  • Git subtree workflow

    - by Cedric
In my current project I'm using an open source forum (https://github.com/vanillaforums/Garden.git). I was planning on doing something like this : git remote add vanilla_remote https://github.com/vanillaforums/Garden.git git checkout -b vanilla vanilla_remote/master git checkout master git read-tree --prefix=vanilla -u vanilla This way I can make change into the vanilla folder (like changing config) and commit it to my master branch and I can also switch into my vanilla branch to fetch updates. My problem is when I try to merge the branch together git checkout vanilla git pull git checkout master git merge --squash -s subtree --no-commit vanilla The problem is that the "update commit" goes on top of my commits and "overwrite" my change. I would rather like to have my commits replay on top of the update. Is there a simple way to do that? I'm not very good in git so maybe this is the wrong approach. Also, I really don't want to mix my history with the vanilla history.

  • Git. Remote HEAD is ambiguous.

    - by Siegfried
I checked the relevant thread but still can't solve this problem. When I typed "git remote show origin", I got * remote origin Fetch URL: xxxx Push URL: xxxx HEAD branch (remote HEAD is ambiguous, may be one of the following): development master Remote branches: development tracked master tracked Local branches configured for 'git pull': development merges with remote development master merges with remote master Local ref configured for 'git push': master pushes to master (up to date) I also checked "git show-ref", and I got: 3f8f4292e31cb8fa5938dbdd406b2f357764205b refs/heads/development 3f8f4292e31cb8fa5938dbdd406b2f357764205b refs/heads/master 3f8f4292e31cb8fa5938dbdd406b2f357764205b refs/remotes/origin/development 3f8f4292e31cb8fa5938dbdd406b2f357764205b refs/remotes/origin/master Here is the list of all branches I have by executing "git branch -a" development * master remotes/origin/development remotes/origin/master And this is what is in the .git/config: [core] repositoryformatversion = 0 filemode = false bare = false logallrefupdates = true ignorecase = true hideDotFiles = dotGitOnly autocrlf = false [remote "origin"] fetch = +refs/heads/*:refs/remotes/origin/* url = xxxx push = refs/heads/master:refs/heads/master [branch "master"] remote = origin merge = refs/heads/master [branch "development"] remote = origin merge = refs/heads/development I and it seems that the remote development and master branch share the same node. How to solve this ambiguity problem? Thank you!

  • SVN: Branches for Every Little Change?

    - by yar
Hi. We have a client (who has a client, who has a client) who is driving us mad with change requests to a code base (in PHP). Our first response was to just work in a main trunk in SVN, but the client often comes back and requests that a certain change needs to get pushed to the live servers ASAP. On the other hand, other changes get reduced in priority suddenly, which originally came grouped with other changes (seemingly). We are thinking of using a branch for every change request. Is this mad? What other solutions might work? Thanks! Edit: This is a really hard question to choose the correct answer for. Thanks to everybody for your great answers. Edit: I know that the best answer I chose was not particularly popular. I too wanted to find a technical solution to this problem. But now I think that if the client wants software with features that can be deployed in a modular fashion... this problem should not be solved in our use of the version control system. It would have to be designed into the software. Edit: Now it's almost a month later and my coworker/client has convinced me that multiple branches is the way to go. This is not just due to the client's insanity, but also based on our need to be able to determine if a feature is "ready to go" or "needs more work" or whatever. I don't have the SVN with me, but we merge using the advice from the SVN Cookbook: you merge the branch from the revision it was branched to the head revision. Also, using this system, we merge all branches at some point and that becomes the new QA and then live build. Then we branch from that. Last Edit (Perhaps): Months later, this system is still working out for us. We create branches for every ticket and rarely have problems. On the other hand, we do try to keep things separate as far as what people are working on... Two Years Later: We use GIT now, and now this system is actually quite reasonable.

  • what is the proper way to do logging in csv file?

    - by user2003548
i want to log some information of every single request send to a busy http server in a formatted form, use log module would create some thing i don't want to: [I 131104 15:31:29 Sys:34] i think of csv format but i don't know how to customize it,and python got csv module, but read the manual import csv with open('some.csv', 'w', newline='') as f: writer = csv.writer(f) writer.writerows(someiterable) since it would open and close a file each time, i am afraid in this way would slow down the whole server performance, what could i do?

  • Windows 7 - pydoc from cmd

    - by Random_Person
Okay, I'm having one of those moments that makes me question my ability to use a computer. This is not the sort of question I imagined asking as my first SO post, but here goes. Started on Zed's new "Learn Python the Hard Way" since I've been looking to get back into programming after a 10 year hiatus and python was always what I wanted. This book has really spoken to me. That being said, I'm having a serious issue with pydoc from the command. I've got all the directories in c:/python26 in my system path and I can execute pydoc from the command line just fine regardless of pwd - but it accepts no arguments. Doesn't matter what I type, I just get the standard pydoc output telling me the acceptable arguments. Any ideas? For what it's worth, I installed ActivePython as per Zed's suggestion. C:\Users\Chevee>pydoc file pydoc - the Python documentation tool pydoc.py <name> ... Show text documentation on something. <name> may be the name of a Python keyword, topic, function, module, or package, or a dotted reference to a class or function within a module or module in a package. If <name> contains a '\', it is used as the path to a Python source file to document. If name is 'keywords', 'topics', or 'modules', a listing of these things is displayed. pydoc.py -k <keyword> Search for a keyword in the synopsis lines of all available modules. pydoc.py -p <port> Start an HTTP server on the given port on the local machine. pydoc.py -g Pop up a graphical interface for finding and serving documentation. pydoc.py -w <name> ... Write out the HTML documentation for a module to a file in the current directory. If <name> contains a '\', it is treated as a filename; if it names a directory, documentation is written for all the contents. C:\Users\Chevee> EDIT: New information, pydoc works just fine in PowerShell. As a linux user, I have no idea why I'm trying to use cmd anyways--but I'd still love to figure out what's up with pydoc and cmd. EDIT 2: More new information. In cmd... c:\>python c:/python26/lib/pydoc.py file ...works just fine. Everything works just fine with just pydoc in PowerShell without me worrying about pwd, or extensions or paths.

  • Ruby's autoload not working in 1.8.7 or Ruby Enterprise?

    - by webren
I've written a gem and within a file I am doing this to autoload my main gem logic: $:.push File.expand_path('lib', __FILE__) require "oa-casport/version" require 'omniauth/core' module OmniAuth module Strategies autoload :Casport, 'omniauth/strategies/casport' end end For Ruby versions 1.8.7 and ree, it prints out "no such file to load - omniauth/strategies/casport' But it doesn't print out this message on version 1.9.2. Is there something off with the location of calling autoload? The repo for the gem is located at https://github.com/stevenhaddox/oa-casport

  • How to get all usages/references of control in DotNetNuke?

Sorry for lame question but I am literally starting with DNN. When you are in admin/design mode you can list all modules used, and when you click on module at the end you will see the list of controls used in this module with info about filename of the source. The problem I have is in reverse -- I already know the filename with source, I would like to list all modules which use this control. How to do it?

  • How to combine 2 or more querysets in a Django view?

    - by Espen Christensen
Hi, I am trying to build the search for a Django site I am building, and in the search I am searching in 3 different models. And to get pagination on the search result list I would like to use a generic object_list view to display the results. But to do that i have to merge 3 querysets into one. How can i do that? Ive tried this: result_list = [] page_list = Page.objects.filter(Q(title__icontains=cleaned_search_term) | Q(body__icontains=cleaned_search_term)) article_list = Article.objects.filter(Q(title__icontains=cleaned_search_term) | Q(body__icontains=cleaned_search_term) | Q(tags__icontains=cleaned_search_term)) post_list = Post.objects.filter(Q(title__icontains=cleaned_search_term) | Q(body__icontains=cleaned_search_term) | Q(tags__icontains=cleaned_search_term)) for x in page_list: result_list.append(x) for x in article_list: result_list.append(x) for x in post_list: result_list.append(x) return object_list(request, queryset=result_list, template_object_name='result', paginate_by=10, extra_context={'search_term': search_term}, template_name="search/result_list.html") But this doesnt work I get an error when i try to use that list in the generic view. The list is missing the clone attribute. Anybody know how i can merge the three lists, page_list, article_list and post_list?

  • Converting MS Word Documents to PDF in ASP.NET

    - by glaxaco
Similar questions have been asked, but nothing exactly like mine, so here goes. We have a collection of Microsoft Word documents on an ASP.NET web server with merge fields whose values are filled in as a result of user form submissions. After the field merge, the server must convert the document to PDF and stream it down to the browser. Our first inclination was to use the Visual Studio Tools for Office API; however, we ran into this warning from Microsoft: Microsoft does not currently recommend, and does not support, Automation of Microsoft Office applications from any unattended, non-interactive client application or component (including ASP, ASP.NET, DCOM, and NT Services), because Office may exhibit unstable behavior and/or deadlock when Office is run in this environment. It looks like the field manipulation can be done using the Open XML SDK, but what's the best way to convert Word 2007 documents to PDF without opening Word? The optimal solution would be low-cost, scalable, have a low memory footprint, be easy to deploy, and have a .NET API.
