  • How to color highlight text in a black/white document easily

    I am editing a 96 chapter book. The text is in normal black letters on a white background. What I want to be able to do is: I want to have any changes or additions automatically shown in another (per-selected) color. Without having to a)high lite a word or phrase to be changed or added and then b)going to the toolbar and clicking on the font color In other words I want the original color of the text to remain as it is and any additions or changes to be visible in another color without having to use the toolbar. Can this be done? I use OpenOffice or Word 2007 in Windows 7.

  • How can I make the icon font color on a windows 7 prof desktop work?

    I have C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Scenes\img25.jpg as wallpaper (I think it's a standard windows wallpaper.) The desktop icon font color is white. It cannot be read without heavy eye pain. I want it to be black. I couldn't change the icon font color in advanced properties (ie the good old window color settings dialog) for aero for windows 7 professional x32. I've heard that the icon font color should change automatically to suit my needs, it doesn't work as advertised in my scenario. How could I fix it and rescue my eyes from popping out?     I have recently bought myself a new monitor, now I'd had my previous screen well over 5 years now so I'm looking at this one thinking the picture doesn't quite look right (not bad, just different). Rather than just wait until I'm used to the new picture I'd rather get it fine tuned, then get used to it - so I can reap the maximum benefit. So, can you please suggest reliable ways of configuring an LCD monitor's brightness/contrast/colour/etc to provide the optimum possibly quality image?

  • Coloring of collapsed threads in mutt

    I'm trying to figure out the syntax of colouring collapsed threads in the mutt index. The documentation for mutt patterns doesn't seem to include a description of how this works, and so far I've been completely unable to figure it out by trial and error. What I'd like is for collapsed threads that contain any unread (new) messages to be always coloured green. If collapsed threads with no unread messages contain any flagged messages, then I'd like them to be red. So far, every set of patterns I've tried results in threads that contain both flagged and unread messages being coloured red (I want them green). These work: color index green default "~N" # unread messages color index green default "~N~F" # unread flagged messages color index red default "~F" # flagged messages color index green default "~v~(~N)" # collapsed thread with unread But these don't: color index green default "~v~(~N~F)" # attempt to keep threads with unread green color index red default "~v~(~F)" # colours collapsed threads with flagged and unread red color index red default "~v~(!~N~F)" # ditto color index red default "~v~(^!~N~F)" # ditto color index red default "~v~(~F)~(!~N)" # ditto color index red default "~v~(~F)~v~(!~N)" # ditto I've also tried switching the order of the "~v~(~F)" and "~v~(~N)" commands in the file, but the "flagged" rule always seems to take precedence over the "new" rule. Ideally I'd like to understand how the syntax for colouring collapsed threads works, but at this point I'd happily settle for a set of rules that achieves the colourscheme described above.

  • Changing UI color in Eclipse

    I'm aware of this topic: I've used it to change most of the editor colors, and that's great. But that wasn't enought, there's still too much white (and I need to change it because it hurts my eyes). I've searched in the preferences (both using Eclipse itself and editing the files) for instances of while (255,255,255) and changed them all.   • Adjust colours in a PDF

    I'd like to make colour adjustments to an existing PDF file, the equivalent of Photoshop's adjustments, and save a new version with the altered colours. I'm after more than a colourspace conversion. I'd like to take a file that's black and white, and convert it into green, blue, yellow, pink etc versions. It's upwards of 100 pages full of text and graphic elements, so doing it by hand isn't really an option. Is there any way of achieving this?

  • How to make my display Grayscale?

    I want to reduce the saturation of my laptop monitor to the point that it is almost grayscale. That's the goal. Intel and Asus don't have an answer. Asus Splendid and the intel graphics control panel can increase the saturation, but not lower it. I would prefer a software solution, although I DIY'ed a vga grayscale adapter for my desktop. I have an Asus UL30A with an Intel GMA 4500MHD. I know that the latest ATI cards, windotosh's and high end nvidia cards all support control panel desaturation. Why? black and white makes me 3 times more productive.

  • I want to be able to save a customized color scheme in Vista

    I know how to change my color scheme in Vista. What I despair about is that after I change it, if I switch to another scheme (such as back to Aero), my customized scheme is gone. If I want, I can take another 30 minutes to customize it so it doesn't burn out my eyes. Is there any way to save this scheme? I tried doing the color scheme change, then trying to save the whole thing as a theme, all to no avail.

  • Mac OS X: How to change the color label of files from the Terminal

    Is there a way I can set the color label of a file to some color when in the Terminal? I know that the following command lists some info about what the color currently is, but I can't figure out how to do something about it. Like change it. mdls -name kMDItemFSLabel somefile.ext The reason I would like to know is that I want to recursively mark all files in a folder of a certain type with a certain color label (in my case gray). I know how to do the finding: find . -name "*.ext" And I know how I can run the command afterwards for each file using -exec, but I need to know how to do the actual labeling... I would like a solution that only involves commands built-in to Mac OS X. So preferably no 3rd party stuff, unless there is no other way.

  • How can I change font and color of the captions under the icons on the desktop?

    I am trying to use a different font and color for the captions on the icons on the desktop. Under Personalize I have been able to change the icon spacing (both horizontal and vertical) and the size of the text. But I cannot change the font nor the color of the displayed text. The font claims to have changed but it doesn't and the color pulldown menu is disabled. I use the non-Aero Windows 7 Basic but I am not able to change the font or the color.

  • My images look desaturated and brighter on the iPhone than on my Mac (in PS, Pixelmator & Finder)

    I save my image in Photoshop (No Color management). I put it on the iPhone and it looks brighter and desaturated. Also my blue-green looks more like blue. I have tried some color profiles on the net: http://luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=38121 http://www.colorwiki.com/wiki/Color_on_iPhone But the images still look different. I'm going insane with this because its stealing my time away and i can't fix it. Every bit of help would be appreciated! Do I have to create my own profile? Is there an easy way??

  • Xubuntu Terminal overrides shell- and vi color schemes, how to deactivate?

    I'm running an up-to-tade Xubuntu and have a real problem with these Terminals. I don't want them to be all that design-ish. Just the plain old Terminal with a black background and green text. And in VIM I want to use my own color scheme. But the xfce-4-terminal doesn't seem to let me do that. It always uses it's own color schemes and they just don't work for all cases (you have like 6 different types of text elements to color, for coding you need more). How can I disable the coloring in the terminal or just load a simple one without all these features?

    I currently have the Buttons on other taskbars set so Never combine So I can have multiple Chrome windows open and will see multiple Chromes on the taskbar. Now the problem is that sometimes I don't really know which one I'm currently looking at. Is there a way to have the active application take on a different color or some other indication that it's the active window.     Hi guys I'm developing a ASP.Net web handler that returns images making a in-memory System.Windows.Forms.Control and then exports the rendered control as a bitmap compressed to PNG, using the method DrawToBitmap(). The classes are fully working by now, except for a problem with the color assignment. By example, this is a Gauge generated by the web handler. The colors assigned to the inner parts of the gauge are red (#FF0000), yellow (#FFFF00) and green (#00FF00) but I only get a dully version of each color (#CB100F for red, #CCB70D for yellow and #04D50D for green). The background is a bmp file containing the color gradient. The color loss happens whether the background is a gradient as the sample, a black canvas, a white canvas, a transparent canvas, even when there is not a background set. With black background With transparent background With a white background Without a background set With pixel format in Format32bppArgb I've tried multiple bitmap color deeps, output formats, compression level, etc. but none of them seems to work. Any ideas?     This is only marginally programming related - has much more to do w/ colors and their representation. I am working on a very low level app. I have an array of bytes in memory. Those are characters. They were rendered with anti-aliasing: they have values from 0 to 255, 0 being fully transparent and 255 totally opaque (alpha, if you wish). I am having trouble conceiving an algorithm for the rendering of this font.     Hi, I'm starting with PHP for dynamic web pages. I have some libaries written in ANSI C for getting/setting parameters and other proprietary stuff. I wonder, is there a simple solution to use a wrapper inside PHP to call this funtions? Is there a already existing class/library? What would be the best practice to do this on my own? I don't want do make calls to external applications and use stdin/stdout! Is there a simple example available?   • Why do I need to explicitly specify all columns in a SQL "GROUP BY" clause - why not "GROUP BY *"?

    This has always bothered me - why does the GROUP BY clause in a SQL statement require that I include all non-aggregate columns? These columns should be included by default - a kind of "GROUP BY *" - since I can't even run the query unless they're all included. Every column has to either be an aggregate or be specified in the "GROUP BY", but it seems like anything not aggregated should be automatically grouped. Maybe it's part of the ANSI-SQL standard, but even so, I don't understand why. Can somebody help me understand the need for this convention?
