  • URL Routing in Java

    - by Jack
    Coming from other web frameworks, I'm used to being able to map parts of a URL to method parameters. I know that web.xml provides a way to map an entire URL to a Servlet but is there a way to get more features out of this, such as mapping pieces of the URL to method parameters?

  • Struts2 form to action fields mapping automatically

    - by hkansal
    Hello, I would like to know if it is possible, in Struts2, to map an HTML form's fields to those of an action, automatically, without getters and setters. It is clear that by getters and setters or the ParameterAware interface and the Map, fields can be set in the action, but I just wanted to know if otherwise there was a way.

  • Which is the fastest idiomatic way to add all vectors (in the math sense) inside a Scala list?

    - by davips
    I have two solutions, but one doesn't compile and the other, I think, could be better: object Foo extends App { val vectors = List(List(1,2,3), List(2,2,3), List(1,2,2)) //just a stupid example //transposing println("vectors = " + vectors.transpose.map (_.sum)) //it prints vectors = List(4, 6, 8) //folding vectors.reduce { case (a, b) => (a zip b) map { case (x, y) => x + y } } //compiler says: missing parameter type for exp. function; arg. types must be fully known }

  • How do I keep a datastructure in sync across several servers in Java?

    - by sanity
    Have a Map which contains objects that I want to keep in sync across multiple servers, such that if objects in the map are created, deleted, or modified - this is reflected immediately (ie. within a second or two) across all servers, in a way that can potentially scale up to tens of servers. Is there a lightweight open source Java tool that can do something like this? I'm aware of Terracotta but it is rather heavy weight for what I need.

  • Knowledge mining using Hadoop.

    - by Anurag
    Hello there, I want to do a project Hadoop and map reduce and present it as my graduation project. To this, I've given some thought,searched over the internet and came up with the idea of implementing some basic knowledge mining algorithms say on a social websites like Facebook or may stckoverflow, Quora etc and draw some statistical graphs, comparisons frequency distributions and other sort of important values.For searching purpose would it be wise to use Apache Solr ? I want know If such thing is feasible using the above mentioned tools, if so how should I build up on this little idea? Where can I learn about knowledge mining algorithms which are easy to implement using java and map reduce techniques? In case this is a wrong idea please suggest what else can otherwise be done on using Hadoop and other related sub-projects? Thank you

  • Restrict sprite movement to vertical and horizontal

    - by Daniel Granger
    I have been battling with this for some time and my noob brain can't quite work it out. I have a standard tile map and currently use the following code to move my enemy sprite around the map -(void) movePlayer:(ccTime)deltaTime { if (CGPointEqualToPoint(self.position, requestedPosition)) return; float step = kPlayerSpeed * deltaTime; float dist = ccpDistance(self.position, requestedPosition); CGPoint vectorBetweenAB = ccpSub(self.position, requestedPosition); if (dist <= step) { self.position = requestedPosition; [self popPosition]; } else { CGPoint normVectorBetweenAB = ccpNormalize(vectorBetweenAB); CGPoint movementVectorForThisFrame = ccpMult(normVectorBetweenAB, step); if (abs(vectorBetweenAB.x) > abs(vectorBetweenAB.y)) { if (vectorBetweenAB.x > 0) { [self runAnimation:walkLeft]; } else { [self runAnimation:walkRight]; } } else { if (vectorBetweenAB.y > 0) { [self runAnimation:walkDown]; } else { [self runAnimation:walkUp]; } } if (self.position.x > movementVectorForThisFrame.x) { movementVectorForThisFrame.x = -movementVectorForThisFrame.x; } if (self.position.y > movementVectorForThisFrame.y) { movementVectorForThisFrame.y = -movementVectorForThisFrame.y; } self.position = ccpAdd(self.position, movementVectorForThisFrame); } } movePlayer: is called by the classes updateWithDeltaTime: method. the ivar requestedPosition is set in the updateWithDeltaTime method as well, it basically gets the next point out of a queue to move to. These points can be anywhere on the map, so if they are in a diagonal direction from the enemy the enemy sprite will move directly to that point. But how do I change the above code to restrict the movement to vertical and horizontal movement only so that the enemies movement 'staircases' its way along a diagonal path, taking the manhattan distance (I think its called). As shown by my crude drawing below... S being the start point F being the finish and the numbers being each intermediate point along its path to create a staircase type diagonal movement. Finally I intend to be able to toggle this behaviour on and off, so that I can choose whether or not I want the enemy to move free around the map or be restricted to this horizontal / vertical movement only. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |F| | | | | | | | | |5|4| | | | | | | | | |3|2| | | | | | | | | |1|S| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |

  • trying to understand some codes related to window.onload in js

    - by user2507818
    <body> <script language="javascript"> window.tdiff = []; fred = function(a,b){return a-b;}; window.onload = function(e){ console.log("window.onload", e, Date.now() ,window.tdiff, (window.tdiff[1] = Date.now()) && window.tdiff.reduce(fred) ); } </script> </body> Above code is taken from a site. In firefox-console, it shows: window.onload load 1372646227664 [undefined, 1372646227664] 1372646227664 Question: For window.tdiff->[undefined, 1372646227664], why not:[], because when runs to code:window.tdiff, it is still an empty array? For window.tdiff.reduce(fred)->1372646227664, window.tdiff = [undefined, 1372646227664], undefined - 1372646227664, should be NaN, why it shows 1372646227664?

  • Custom Floating Point Representation

    - by Abion47
    I'm trying to write a parser that will read a particular file type, and I need to map the different data types to C# equivalents. Most of them aren't that difficult, but I'm having trouble wrapping my head around what "int16 with a bias of 14" means. I've deduced that it's some kind of floating point type, so my best bet would be to write a converter that would map it to a float, double, or decimal type. I'm not sure where to take it from here, though.

  • SmoothLife Is a Super Smooth Version of Conway’s Game of Life [Video]

    - by Jason Fitzpatrick
    What happens if you change cellular automaton program Game of Life to use floating point values instead of integers? You end up with SmoothLife, a fluid and organic growth simulator. SmoothLife is a family of rules created by Stephan Rafler. It was designed as a continuous version of Conway’s Game of Life – using floating point values instead of integers. This rule is SmoothLifeL which supports many interesting phenomena such as gliders that can travel in any direction, rotating pairs of gliders, wickstretchers and the appearance of elastic tension in the ‘cords’ that join the blobs. You can check out the paper outlining how SmoothLife works here and then grab the source code to run your own simulation here. • Fundtech’s Global PAYplus Achieves Oracle Exadata and Oracle Exalogic Optimized Status

    - by Javier Puerta
    Fundtech, a leader in global transaction banking solutions, has announced  that Global PAYplus® – Services Platform (GPP-SP) version 4 has achieved Oracle Exadata Optimized and Oracle Exalogic Optimized status. (Read full announcement here) "GPP-SP testing was done in the third quarter of 2012 in the Oracle Exastack Lab located in the Oracle Solution Center in Linlithgow, Scotland. It showed that an integrated solution can result in a highly streamlined installation, enabling reduced cost of evaluation, acquisition and ownership. Highlights of the transaction processing test are as follows: 9.3 million Mass Payments per hour 5.7 million Single Payments per hour The test found that the optimized combination of GPP-SP running on Oracle Exadata Database Machine and Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud is able to increase transactions per second (TPS) output per core, and able to reduce total cost of ownership (TCO). The volumes achieved were using only 25% of Exadata/Exalogic processing capacity".

  • Big Data – Role of Cloud Computing in Big Data – Day 11 of 21

    - by Pinal Dave
    In yesterday’s blog post we learned the importance of the NewSQL. In this article we will understand the role of Cloud in Big Data Story What is Cloud? Cloud is the biggest buzzword around from last few years. Everyone knows about the Cloud and it is extremely well defined online. In this article we will discuss cloud in the context of the Big Data. Cloud computing is a method of providing a shared computing resources to the application which requires dynamic resources. These resources include applications, computing, storage, networking, development and various deployment platforms. The fundamentals of the cloud computing are that it shares pretty much share all the resources and deliver to end users as a service.  Examples of the Cloud Computing and Big Data are Google and Amazon.com. Both have fantastic Big Data offering with the help of the cloud. We will discuss this later in this blog post. There are two different Cloud Deployment Models: 1) The Public Cloud and 2) The Private Cloud Public Cloud Public Cloud is the cloud infrastructure build by commercial providers (Amazon, Rackspace etc.) creates a highly scalable data center that hides the complex infrastructure from the consumer and provides various services. Private Cloud Private Cloud is the cloud infrastructure build by a single organization where they are managing highly scalable data center internally. Here is the quick comparison between Public Cloud and Private Cloud from Wikipedia:   Public Cloud Private Cloud Initial cost Typically zero Typically high Running cost Unpredictable Unpredictable Customization Impossible Possible Privacy No (Host has access to the data Yes Single sign-on Impossible Possible Scaling up Easy while within defined limits Laborious but no limits Hybrid Cloud Hybrid Cloud is the cloud infrastructure build with the composition of two or more clouds like public and private cloud. Hybrid cloud gives best of the both the world as it combines multiple cloud deployment models together. Cloud and Big Data – Common Characteristics There are many characteristics of the Cloud Architecture and Cloud Computing which are also essentially important for Big Data as well. They highly overlap and at many places it just makes sense to use the power of both the architecture and build a highly scalable framework. Here is the list of all the characteristics of cloud computing important in Big Data Scalability Elasticity Ad-hoc Resource Pooling Low Cost to Setup Infastructure Pay on Use or Pay as you Go Highly Available Leading Big Data Cloud Providers There are many players in Big Data Cloud but we will list a few of the known players in this list. Amazon Amazon is arguably the most popular Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) provider. The history of how Amazon started in this business is very interesting. They started out with a massive infrastructure to support their own business. Gradually they figured out that their own resources are underutilized most of the time. They decided to get the maximum out of the resources they have and hence  they launched their Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) service in 2006. Their products have evolved a lot recently and now it is one of their primary business besides their retail selling. Amazon also offers Big Data services understand Amazon Web Services. Here is the list of the included services: Amazon Elastic MapReduce – It processes very high volumes of data Amazon DynammoDB – It is fully managed NoSQL (Not Only SQL) database service Amazon Simple Storage Services (S3) – A web-scale service designed to store and accommodate any amount of data Amazon High Performance Computing – It provides low-tenancy tuned high performance computing cluster Amazon RedShift – It is petabyte scale data warehousing service Google Though Google is known for Search Engine, we all know that it is much more than that. Google Compute Engine – It offers secure, flexible computing from energy efficient data centers Google Big Query – It allows SQL-like queries to run against large datasets Google Prediction API – It is a cloud based machine learning tool Other Players Besides Amazon and Google we also have other players in the Big Data market as well. Microsoft is also attempting Big Data with the Cloud with Microsoft Azure. Additionally Rackspace and NASA together have initiated OpenStack. The goal of Openstack is to provide a massively scaled, multitenant cloud that can run on any hardware. Thing to Watch The cloud based solutions provides a great integration with the Big Data’s story as well it is very economical to implement as well. However, there are few things one should be very careful when deploying Big Data on cloud solutions. Here is a list of a few things to watch: Data Integrity Initial Cost Recurring Cost Performance Data Access Security Location Compliance Every company have different approaches to Big Data and have different rules and regulations. Based on various factors, one can implement their own custom Big Data solution on a cloud. Tomorrow In tomorrow’s blog post we will discuss about various Operational Databases supporting Big Data. • Does Google treat AWS IP addresses as related?

    - by ElHaix
    We are hosting several websites on one of our servers, and wondering if because they are on the same subnet that they have been somehow penalized. We are not inter-linking between websites. However in an attempt to have everything hosted in AWS, we will have some sites that we do want to be interlinked. If the sites resided on the same subnet, this could be bad. However, with AWS, we can allocate multiple elastic IP addresses that do reside on different subnets. How does Google deal with this?

  • Consuming JSON stream into AWS Database on the cheap

    - by wjl
    I'm working on a project that needs to consume a JSON stream (approximately 1MB / minute), and parse and insert objects into a database. Amazon's DynamoDB or SimpleDB seem like attractive options for this. Is there a web service that can run a very simple script to eat the data and put it in a database? I could use a worker on Heroku or Elastic Beanstalk, or even pure EC2, but I'd like to find a service that's much cheaper, due to the very low amount of bandwidth and CPU required. (Sorry for the crappy tags. I'm not even sure where to categorize this question.)

  • Q&amp;A: Does it make sense to run a personal blog on the Windows Azure Platform?

    - by Eric Nelson
    I keep seeing people wanting to do this (or something very similar) and then being surprised at how much it might cost them if they went with Windows Azure. Time for a Q&A. Short answer: No, definitely not. Madness, sheer madness. (Hopefully that was clear enough) Longer answer: No because It would cost you a heck of a lot more than just about any other approach to running a blog. A site that can easily be run on a shared hosting solution (as many blogs do today) does not require the rich capabilities of Windows Azure. Capabilities such as simplified deployed and management, dedicated resources, elastic resources, “unlimited” storage etc. It is simply not the type of application the Windows Azure Platform has been designed for.
