  • Postfix configuration w.r.t. port 25

    After a considerable amount of research, I have configured my postfix server to use dovecot to accept SMTPS connections over port 465 and everything works swimmingly. Unfortunately, I forgot that, unless I listen to port 25, I'm not going to receive any e-mail from the net. I'm hoping somebody knows off the top of their head how to open up port 25 on Postfix for anonymous users, but disallow relaying and any other bad things on that port. And to leave the port 465 the way it is.   • How to change the terminal to SCO compliant in Ubuntu

    I have a server in which SCO 5.x is installed. I have several thin clients which were supplied from our head office. Those thin clients have linux pre-installed in them. When we tried to connect to our SCO server, we have found out that the thin client does not support SCO terminal type. So the program (Which is written in Oracle forms) is not working correctly. Lots of function keys stopped working and screen also not getting refreshed correctly. Hence we decided to use Ubuntu Live USB keys in thin clients. Now the problem is how can we change the terminal type to SCO in ubuntu ? Means I want it in the text terminal (Alt+Ctrl+F1,F2...) (Not in xterm...graphical terminal emulators). Does ubuntu support SCO terminal type ?

    Ok, so ive been looking around, trying to learn and understand the way that ram works. Ive gotten one answer that said "The addressing is best for 2 sticks, and when you use 4; it slows down" Another answer said something like: Theres bank/channel interleave that makes the memory read like one stick Also I read something about the memory density also being a factor. I dug further and found out that theres a higher speed limit on my board for 2 sticks vs 4, so now im trying to put an image in my head of how and why, and... pfft. Can anyone explain, or recommend a resource that would answer these questions?

  • How to get the pid of a running process using a single command that parse the output of ps?

    I am looking for a single line that does return the pid of a running process. Currently I have: ps -A -o pid,cmd|grep xxx|head -n 1 And this returns the fist pid, command. I need only the first number from the output and ignore the rest. I suppose sed or awk would help here but my experience with them is limited. Also, this has another problem, it will return the pid of grep if the xxx is not running. It's really important to have a single line, as I want to reuse the output for doing something else, like killing that process.

  • Change a dropdown depending on another dropdown

    I'm trying to create a three select dropdowns that represent a persons birthday. I'm taking into consideration that there are 4 months with 30 days, 7 with 31 ,and 1 with 28 or 29 depending if it's a leap year or not. I would like the days dropdown to show the number of days depending on which month is chosen in the month dropdown. Here's what I have now.   • Setting hidden input value in Javascript, then accessing it in c# codebehind

    Thank you for reading my question. I have been trying to set the value of a hidden input by using Javascript and then access the value from within my C# codebehind. When I run the code that is copied below, the value that is assigned to assignedIDs is "", which I assume is the default value for a hidden input. If I manually set the value in the html tag, then assignedIDs is set to that value. This behavior suggests to me that the value of the input is being reset (re-rendered?) between the onClientClick and onClick events firing. I would appreciate any help with the matter.   • cat contents of one file into another file

    I have a large (binary) file that has some corruption near the beginning. Then, I have a second, smaller file that I obtain by starting to download the same file again, but interrupt after I have enough bytes to fix the original one. My question is, how do I simply overwrite the beginning of the large file with the contents of the second, smaller file? I could use cat, tail and head, but that would create a copy of the file. There must be a more efficient way. Oh yes, and I'm looking for a linux command-line solution, if that wasn't obvious. I'm using bash, but I have other shells if that helps.

    Occasionally I need to log into a local machine account on a Windows workstation joined to our domain. The syntax for specifying a domain account looks like this: DOMAINNAME\myusername whereas the syntax for logging into a local account is HOSTNAME\myusername The problem is that I often don't know the host name off the top of my head. It is possible to find out by clicking the "How do I log onto another domain" link, but this requires me to memorize or write down an often cryptic hostname. Is there another, simpler way to do this?

  • Rebooting an EC2 Instance

    I'm working on a project involving EC2 and I'm having a difficult time wrapping my head around this concept. With EC2 instances, will non-EBS backed volumes (standard EC2) survive a reboot of the OS? For example, I have an Ubuntu instance. If I type "/sbin/shutdown -r now", will I lose all data on the drive not in the AMI? I understand that if I terminate the instance via the tools or the control panel, I lose everything, but I can't find a concrete answer to the restart issue. An extra gold star goes to anyone who can link to documentation clearly explaining this. ;) Thanks for your time!

  • How can I use a Windows 2003 server as a HTTP proxy?

    I'd like to set up an HTTP proxy on a windows 2003 server so that I can access blocked websites such as YouTube from behind a corporate firewall (DAMN THE MAN!). I've never done this before, so I'm not even sure if the picture I have in my head is valid or possible. So I'm stuck behind a firewall that blocks sites that I need to access occasionally but that are blocked because of abuse by slackers. I've got a Windows 2003 server hosted out on the internet (i.e., outside of this odious firewall). I know I can configure my browser to use a proxy for my HTTP traffic, so why not use my server? What I'd like to know is: Is my concept valid? Can this be done, and will it work? How do I configure my server to act as a proxy? What applications may I have to install? Free is fine but don't leave out commercial software TIA

  • copy files created in one folder to multiple other folders on linux

    I'm looking for a way to copy photos that are uploaded to one folder to many other folders and visa versa. Example: a photo is uploaded to folder 1, it is then copied to folders 2-5. And if a photo is uploaded to folder 2 it is copied to folders 1 and 3-5. I'm running CentOS 5. All of these folders are on the same server. I came across another post on here that talked about incron, but that type of programming is over my head.

  • Cause of lost partition replaced by 2 Raw partitions

    Hi, I had a curious problem over the weekend... My 500gb WD hard drive all of a sudden could not be discovered by xp, then when I plugged in again via USB it was being discovered as 2 separate Raw partitions that were asking to be formatted. I have never modified partitions on this drive before. I was scratching my head for about this for 20mins or so when my second 1TB external hard drive did the exact same thing(with the same sized raw partitions as the 500gb). I have since recovered the original partitions and data using Testdisk . I am more curious on the cause.... I suspect this could be a virus, however my machine hadn’t been online in a few days and AVG didn’t detect anything. Has anyone seen this before?

  • I'm trying to return text from a .txt file using ajax

    I'm trying to get my first ajax script to work. The five images are all side by side. Whenever the user hovers the mouse over any of them, it sends a request to a .txt file on the server and the caption is displayed in the div#image_caption. The problem is, even when I mouse over the image, the caption does not display. I'm not quite sure what could be causing this.   • Samba domain trust errors on a specific interface

    We have a windows domain that also has RHEL member servers in it. All the servers have a primary network connection to the LAN, but some servers also have private dedicated links to one of our RHEL servers, which serves as a head to our SAN storage. This particular server is running Samba 3.5.15, and is running in domain authentication mode. Users can access shares on this server without a problem over the LAN connection from our Windows servers, but if a user tries to access the shares over a private link (i.e. a 192.168.1.2 address to the RHEL server) users get an error "The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed."

  • AppFabric named cache, what happens if you lose a cache host?

    I'm getting my head around how app fabric clustering works and there's something I'm not sure about. Given a structure where we have one named cache, with two lead hosts and (say) three cache hosts and high availability turned off and the lead host(s) performing the management role. When one cache host goes down do you loose the data that was on that cache host? In this MSDN article it states: Data on the non-lead hosts would be lost (assuming high availability was not enabled), but the rest of the cluster could continue serving and storing data But I was unsure if redundancy is built into the system. Would you loose x amount of data or would one of the other cache hosts store this data also and pick up the slack?

  • Need to determine button clicked in a JQuery mobile popup and perform actions based thereon

    I am having a problem with a JQM popup. The popup has 3 buttons, and the action taken in the main program depends on which button is clicked. The code in the main program is run more than once and I am not sure why. The simple example below uses an alert to display which button on the popup was clicked.   • Cart coding help

    I've made a simple Javascript code for a shopping basket but now I have realised that I have made a error with making it and don't know how to fix it.   • HP Photosmart C5280 black ink not printing properly

    I just got a used HP Photosmart C5280 from my father in law. There is a problem with the black ink, though. Sometimes, it doesn't print and when it does, it's not really black. An example can be seen at the following link, where I created three black boxes on a Word page and printed. The outcome is somewhat blueish: Other tests with black text only come out as blank pages. I have tried using the print head cleaning utility from the menu of the printer as well as doing the cleaning myself with alcohol. Nothing has worked. Any ideas before I throw out the black cartridge?
