• How to read cell data in excel and output to command prompt

  Hi All, I'm a sys admin and I am trying to learn how to use powershell... I have never done any type of scripting or coding before and I have been teaching myself online by learning from the technet script centre and online forums. What I am trying to accomplish is to open an excel spreadsheet get information from it (usernames and password) and then output it into the command prompt in powershell. • Adding a GET parameter to URL causes 404 error

  I'm trying to install the syntaxhighlightter evolved plugin to my wordpress blog. I've uploaded and activated the plugin, but it did not work. I've looked into the page source code and found out that the plugin style is loaded from the following URL: http://devermind.com/wp-content/plugins/syntaxhighlighter/syntaxhighlighter/styles/shCore.css?ver=2.0.320 This causes a 404 error (page not found). The strange thing though is that when I remove the GET parameters, the CSS loads ok: http://devermind.com/wp-content/plugins/syntaxhighlighter/syntaxhighlighter/styles/shCore.css What could be causing this problem and how can I fix this? Unfortunately I don't know how to make wordpress drop the GET parameters when loading the stylesheet. EDIT: As I just found out, this happens only in Firefox (3.0.11). IE loads both URLs above just fine. Not that this would be of any help though, so any suggestions would be appreciated. SECOND EDIT: I tried this on my laptop and it works fine with Firefox 3.08. So this really seems to be a browser problem after all.

Server Setup: 4 Tomcat Servers (version 7.0.22) that are load balanced (not clustered) by 2 Apache Servers. And the Apache servers themselves supply static content and routing to these 4 tomcat servers. Java Runtime Version: java version "1.6.0_30" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_30-b12) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.5-b03, mixed mode Memory Startup Parameters: MEMORY_OPTIONS="-Xms1024m -Xmx1024m -Xss192k -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=500 -XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -XX:+CMSClassUnloadingEnabled" Monitoring – Wily monitoring is available in all the production servers that monitors key server parameters and sends out configurable alert emails based on pre defined settings. Note: Each of the servers also has two other separate tomcat domains that run different applications Investigated area: There is no Heap Memory Leak and the GC is running fine without any issues over any period of time The current busy thread count corresponds directly to the application usage – weekends and nights have lesser no. of threads compared to business hours ThreadLocal uses a WeakReference internally. If the ThreadLocal is not strongly referenced, it will be garbage-collected, even though various threads have values stored via that ThreadLocal. Additionally, ThreadLocal values are actually stored in the Thread; if a thread dies, all of the values associated with that thread through a ThreadLocal are collected. If you have a ThreadLocal as a final class member, that's a strong reference, and it cannot be collected until the class is unloaded. But this is how any class member works, and isn't considered a memory leak. The cited problem only comes into play when the value stored in a ThreadLocal strongly references that ThreadLocal—sort of a circular reference. In this case, the value (a SimpleDateFormat), has no backwards reference to the ThreadLocal. There's no memory leak in this code. Can anyone please let me know what could be the cause of this and what to be monitored?

• mkfs Operation Takes Very Long on Linux Software Raid 5

  I've set-up a Linux software raid level 5 consisting of 4 * 2 TB disks. The disk array was created with a 64k stripe size and no other configuration parameters. After the initial rebuild I tried to create a filesystem and this step takes very long (about half an hour or more). I tried to create an xfs and ext3 filesystem, both took a long time, with mkfs.ext3 I observed the following behaviour, which might be helpful: writing inode tables runs fast until it reaches 1053 (~ 1 second), then it writes about 50, waits for two seconds, then the next 50 are written (according to the console display) when I try to cancel the operation with Control+C it hangs for half a minute before it is really canceled The performance of the disks individually is very good, I've run bonnie++ on each one separately with write / read values of around 95 / 110MB/s. Even when I run bonnie++ on every drive in parallel the values are only reduced by about 10 MB. So I'm excluding hardware / I/O scheduling in general as a problem source. I tried different configuration parameters for stripe_cache_size and readahead size without success, but I don't think they are that relevant for the file system creation operation. The server details: Linux server 2.6.35-27-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP x86_64 GNU/Linux mdadm - v2.6.7.1 Does anyone has a suggestion on how to further debug this?

• Live Screencast under Linux

  I was having some difficulty with running a Live Screencast under Linux. I've found jtvlc and tried using that, but whenever I use it the stream comes out either blank or lagged with extremely high latency. I have a fast internet connection and a fast computer, but am I perhaps taxing it too much? Any ideas on what I could possibly be doing wrong? # 1. Get an account on http://www.justin.tv/ # 2.   We have been trying to setup EFS across our domain. Unfortunately Reading/Writing file over network share does not work, we get an "Access Denied" error. Another worrying fact is that I managed to get it working for 1 machine but no other would work. The machines are all Windows 2008R2, running as VM under ESXi host. According to: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb457116.aspx#EHAA We setup the involved machine to be trusted for delegation The user are not restricted and can be trusted for delegation. The users have logged-in on both side and can read/write encrypted files without issues locally. I enabled Kerberos logging in the registry and this is the relevant logs that I get on the machine that has the encrypted files. In order for all certificate that the user possess (Only Key Name changes): Event ID 5058: Audit Success, "Other System Events" Key file operation. • Redirecting a single request to another pages, ignoring www subdomain

  I have a site running on IIS 7.5 that does an automatic redirect from 'http://mysite.com/whatever.aspx' to 'http://www.mysite.com/whatever.aspx' On the site, there is a lot of traffic to an old URL that I want to redirect to the front page, index.aspx: 'http://mysite.com/foo/bar/index.cgi%something=asdf&somethingelse=qwerty' The problem is that no matter what I try, I can only get the redirect to work with the www subdomain. If I use the URL without www, I just end up at 'http://www.mysite.com/404.aspx' Any ideas? Thanks in advance for all help! Edit3: it seems like the browser caching the redirect response was messing with me, so edit2 is wrong. See my response below. Edit2: disregard edit1, it doesn't seem like it's working after all. Edit: here's some further info: using this article I've managed to redirect from 'http://mysite.com/foo/bar/index.cgi' to 'http://www.mysite.com/index.aspx', but if I add the query string parameters, it still redirects to 'http://www.mysite.com/404.aspx' Isn't there a way to catch all requests to the cgi file, including query string parameters?

• Using Active Directory through a Firewall

  I had kind of a weird setup today where I wanted to enable Windows Firewall on a Windows 2003 R2 SP2 computer that would act as an Active Directory Domain Controller. I didn't see one resource on the Internet that listed what would be required to do this, so I thought I'd list them here and see if anyone has anything to add/sees something that isn't necessary. Ports to Open with "subnet" scope: 42 | TCP | WINS (if you use it) 53 | TCP | DNS 53 | UDP | DNS 88 | TCP | Kerberos 88 | UDP | Kerberos 123 | UDP | NTP 135 | TCP | RPC 135 | UDP | RPC 137 | UDP | NetBIOS 138 | UDP | NetBIOS 139 | TCP | NetBIOS 389 | TCP | LDAP 389 | UDP | LDAP 445 | TCP | SMB 445 | UDP | SMB 636 | TCP | LDAPS 3268 | TCP | GC LDAP 3269 | TCP | GC LDAP Ports to Open with "Any" Scope (for DHCP) 67 | UDP | DHCP 2535 | UDP | DHCP ALSO You need to restrict RPC to use fixed ports instead of everything 1024. For that, you need to add two registry keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NTDS\Parameters Registry value: TCP/IP Port Value type: REG_DWORD Value data: <-- pick a port like 1600 and put it here HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon\Parameters Registry value: DCTcpipPort Value type: REG_DWORD Value data: <-- pick another port like 1650 and put it here ...don't forget to add entries in the firewall to allow those in (TCP, Subnet scope). After doing all that, I was able to add a client computer to the AD domain (behind Windows Firewall) and log in successfully.

• Unable to connect to second name of Windows 2008 Server R2 machine from XP

  I used the command netdom computername /add:newname.domainname.com to add a second name to a server running Windows 2008 Server R2. After restarting the server, I had DNS "A" entries for both names. In addition, the second name was added to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanServer\Parameters\OptionalNames, which I believe should have taken care of any NetBIOS resolution. From my Windows 7 workstation, I can ping both names and running net view on both names reveals the same list of resources. From Windows XP, I can ping both names, but net view only works on the first name. Running net view on the second name returns: System error 52 has occurred. You were not connected because a duplicate name exists on the network. Go to System in Control Panel to change the computer name and try again. What do I need to do to make the second name usable from XP clients? Update: I was able to resolve the problem by adding the REG_DWORD key DisableStrictNameChecking = 1 to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanServer\Parameters, then restarting the Server service. However, I do not understand why this was necessary.

• Create custom launchers in GNOME 3

  I'm using Debian testing, and I have been switched to GNOME 3 by the Debian update yesterday. I'm not very comfortable with the UI. I wanted to customize everything like I had it with GNOME 2, but I simply couldn't find any way to change preferences like I'm used to. I've digged some, but all answers I could find did not help me achieve my goals. So please, if anyone knows the solution to this I'd be thankful: 1) I want several launchers that launch terminals, with different arguments and different coloring/title. I have searched everything and there seems to be no menu, no right-click, nothing which is standard in any UI I know. How can I create several launchers in this bar on the left side that launch the same application, just with different parameters? With GNOME 2 this was a piece of cake. 2) I want to switch between different terminals using ALT-TAB. Right now, I'm always just getting to the same, already-opened terminal. When I open two terminals by simply creating the second one by issuing xterm &, I still get one Terminal entry with ALT-TAB, and I have to navigate with cursor keys or mouse wheel to select one of the two xterminals. Instead, I want to open a new terminal when I click the quick launch terminal icon from the bar on the left side of the screen and navigate through them like on KDE/GNOME 2/Windows/any reasonable UI. Can this be done? 3) Is there a trick to make bluetooth devices work like on GNOME 2? Right now, my BT keyboard won't pair anymore, which, as you can imagine, makes me pretty angry. and, if anything fails: 4) How can I switch back to GNOME 2 again? :-) Honestly, who did design this? What were they smoking? I feel like I'm not allowed to do anything except start one of any application that has an icon and just with the default parameters. That can't be true, right? I feel massively restrained by this stuff :(

• Please help! Every Post link links to the most recent post Wordpress

  I got the site up on time, with one blog post up. Later I added another one and tested it. Big problem! Any link that used to take you to the old post (ie: side-bar "Recent Posts" links) now takes you to the newest one. I tested it by adding a third post, and got the same result. • Truncate text to fit table cell without wrapping using css or jquery

  I want the text in one of the columns of a table to not wrap, but to just truncate so that it fits within the current size of the table cell. I don't want the table cell to change size, as I need the table to be exactly 100% the width of the container. This is because the table with 100% width is inside of a positioned div with overflow: auto (it's actually inside of a jquery UI.Layout panel). I tried both overflow: hidden and the text still wrapped.   I'm working on sending out an html based email, and every time it sends the image src tags and some of the anchor href tags are modified to be relative url's. Update 2: This is happening between when the body of the email is generated and sent and when it arrives in my inbox. Update: I am using Postfix on a LAMPP server.   Hello SO community, I haven't had any luck getting help in the Alfresco forums, and I'm hoping for more here. We are building an application based on Alfresco and jBPM and I have defined a workflow, but I have either defined it wrong or am missing something or there are bugs in Alfresco integration with jBPM and I need help figuring out which and fixing it. Here is the problem: I have an advanced workflow and I am trying to launch it from JavaScript. However, when I go looking for the workflow in my task list it is not there, but it is in my completed task list. The default transition (the only transition) from the start node points at a task node which has four transitions. There are 8 tasks and 22 transitions in the workflow. When I use the workflow console to start the workflow and end the start task, it properly follows the default start node transition to the next task. The new task shows up in "show tasks" but does not show up in "show my tasks" (apparently because the task was marked completed for some reason, though it is not in the "end" node). Clearly the assignees are on the task object and not on the workflow object. I added the assignees aspect to the start-state task so that it could hold them (after I had a problem; initially they were not there) and possibly they are still sitting there, but the start-state has ended before I even get control back from the web script (not that it would help if it wasn't ended, I need it to be in "In Editing" as the start-state is only used to log that the workflow was started). It has always confused me that the properties that I need to set on each task need to be requested before the task is entered (when you choose a transition you must provide the data for the next task before you can actually move to the next task as you have to validate that you have all of the required data first and then signal the transition). However, the code to start the workflow is asynchronous and therefore does not return either the started workflow or the current task (which in my case would be "In Editing"). So, either way you cannot set variables such as bpm:assignees and bpm:dueDate. I wonder if this is the problem with the user task list. I'm setting the assignees in the property list, but maybe those assignees are going to the start-state task and are not getting passed to the "In Editing" task? Note that this is my first jBPM workflow, so please don't assume I know what I'm doing. If you see something that looks off, it probably is and I just don't know it. • Creating a Blog ruby on Rails - Problem Deleting Comments

  As I always type I am new to rails and programming in general so go easy. Thanks in advance. I have successfully followed the initial tutorial from Ryan Bates on how to build a weblog in 15 minutes. If you don't know this tutorial takes you through creating posts and allowing for comments on those post. It even introduces AJAX through the creating and displaying comments on the posts show.html.erb page. All works great. Here's the hiccup, when Ryan takes you though this tutorial he clears out the comments_controller and only shows the code for creating comments. I am trying to add back the ability to edit and destroy comments. Can't see to get it to work, keeps deleting the actual post not the comment (log shows that I keep sending DELETE request to PostsController).
