  • OpenGl ES Eraser Tool

    Hi Everyone, I am trying to implement an OpenGL eraser tool. I am struggling with this. I was thinking of painting somehow over the previous changes to "clear" out the changes. I can't use the background color because it is not a pattern, not one solid color. Can you point me to the right direction on how to implement an eraser tool ?   • FindBugs: "may fail to close stream" - is this valid in case of InputStream?

    In my Java code, I start a new process, then obtain its input stream to read it: BufferedReader reader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(process.getInputStream())); FindBugs reports an error here: may fail to close stream Pattern id: OS_OPEN_STREAM, type: OS, category: BAD_PRACTICE Must I close the InputStream of another process? And what's more, according to its Javadoc, InputStream#close() does nothing. So is this a false positive, or should I really close the input stream of the process when I'm done?

  • Is currying just a way to avoid inheritance?

    So my understanding of currying (based on SO questions) is that it lets you partially set parameters of a function and return a "truncated" function as a result. If you have a big hairy function takes 10 parameters and looks like function (location, type, gender, jumpShot%, SSN, vegetarian, salary) { //weird stuff } and you want a "subset" function that will let you deal with presets for all but the jumpShot%, shouldn't you just break out a class that inherits from the original function? I suppose what I'm looking for is a use case for this pattern. Thanks!

    I'm trying to integrate Spring 3.0.5 with Jersey 1.4. I seem to have everything working, but whenever I try and return a Viewable that points to a JSP, I get a 404 error. However, now that I have to use the SpringServlet to get spring integration, I'm at a loss for how to access resources, since I can't use the filter above. I am using the following css to create list items with a chckerboard background ( every other list item has a grey background, which shift every row to create a checkerboard pattern: li:nth-child(8n+2), li:nth-child(8n+4), li:nth-child(8n+5), li:nth-child(8n+7) { background-color:grey; } Is there way I can do this using jquery that is more supportive than css3?     Over the years, I've tried to avoid instanceof whenever possible. Using polymorphism or the visitor pattern where applicable. I suppose it simply eases maintenance in some situations... Are there any other drawbacks that one should be aware of? I do however see it here and there in the Java libraries so I suppose it has its place? Under what circumstances is it preferable? Is it ever unavoidable?

  • Is it normal for a programmer with 2 years experience to take a long time to code simple programs?

    Hi all, I'm a relatively new programmer (18 months on the scene), and I'm finally getting to the point where I'm comfortable accepting projects and developing solutions under minimal supervision. Unfortunately, this also means that I've become acutely aware of my performance shortfalls, the most prevalent of which is the amount of time it takes me to develop, test, and submit algorithms for review. A great example of what I'm talking about occurred this week when I was tasked with developing a simple XML web service (asp.net 3.5) callable via client-side JavaScript, that accepts a single parameter and returns a dataset output to a modal window (please note this is the first time I've had to develop a web service and have had ZERO experience creating/consuming them...let alone calling them from JS client side). Keeping a long story short -- I worked on it for 4 days straight, all day each day, for a grand total of 36 hours, not including the time I spent dwelling on the problem in the shower, the morning commute, and laying awake in bed at night. I learned a great deal about web services and xml/json/javascript...but was called in for a management review to discuss the length of time it took me to develop the solution. In the meeting, I was praised for the quality of my work and was in fact told that my effort was commendable. However, they (senior leads and pm's) weren't impressed with the amount of time it took me to develop the solution and expressed that they would have liked to see the solution in roughly 1/3 of the time it took me. I guess what concerns me the most is that I've identified this pattern as common for myself. Between online videos, book research, and trial/error coding...if its something I haven't seen before, I can spend up to two weeks on a problem that seems to only take the pros in the videos moments to code up. And of course, knowing that management isn't happy with this pattern has shaken me up a bit. To sum up, I have some very specific questions I'd like to ask, and would greatly appreciate your objective professional feedback. Is my experience as a junior programmer common among new developers? Or is it possible that I'm just not cut out for the work? If you suspect that my experience is not common and that there may be an aptitude issue, do you have any suggestions/solutions that I could propose to management to help bring me up to speed? Do seasoned, professional programmers ever encounter knowledge barriers that considerably delay deliverables? When you started out in the industry, did you know how to "do it all"? If not, how long did it take you to be perceived as "proficient"? Was it a natural progression of trial and error, or was there a particular zen moment when you knew you had achieved super saiyen power level? Anyways, thanks for taking the time to read my question(s). I don't know if this is the right place to ask for professional career guidance, but I greatly appreciate your willingness to help me out.     I've beeb tasked with writing a servlet that intercepts a call to and JSP in a specific directoy, check that the file exists and if it does just forwarding to that file, if if doesn't I'm to forward to a default JSP. Is there a better way to do this? I'm lead to believe that I could use filters to do this, but I don't know very much about them.

Does the method being called in the BeginInvoke get in line of messages that come down to the window? The docs say asynchronously, so that is my assumption. How does the framework prioritize when to kick off the method called by BeginInvoke?

    I'm working on a regex to match valid integer numbers such as the following: 0 1 99 999 However it should not allow matching an empty string. The closest I can get is: (0)|\\d{1,3} Which to me says a matching string will have either a zero or a series of digits between 1 and 3 characters long. However, empty strings still appear to match this pattern. What's the proper way to exclude empty strings from this regex?

    Good day, I am using CacheFilter to filter a certain path to my server (which outputs an image stream to the response stream). However, if the url is inside my page ( i.e. <img src="..."/> ), it seems to hit the server all the time. [EDIT] After a few more testing, accessing my image via the address bar does not work all the time. But caching does seem to work more often with it than . As to whether it really, I am not sure. Additional Info: my path is something like /my/path?then=some&query=strings. Notice that it doesn't have an extension (i.e. gif, png, jpeg ) but it's mimetype is set properly ( image/gif, image/png, image/jpeg ). I am not sure if the lack of extension or the presence of the query strings have any impact. (Also, another note. though my url have query strings, I am using the same uri + query string over and over again with my tests). Any ideas why? Thanks
