• Does deleting temporary symlinks interrupt current downloads/access to that symlink?

  I am using symlinks generated in PHP. They are generated when someone requests a download, and I want them to expire at the end of each day. The problem is, what if someone starts downloading a symlink 1 minute before the end of the day and then I delete the symlink while they are downloading it... My question is, to your knowledge will that individual downloading the symlink, right before I delete it, still be able to "download" the file? I am not worried about "resumable download" capability.. but will it make their download stop or break in some way?

  I turned snapshot isolation on in my database using the following code ALTER DATABASE MyDatabase SET ALLOW_SNAPSHOT_ISOLATION ON ALTER DATABASE MyDatabase SET READ_COMMITTED_SNAPSHOT ON and got rid off lots of deadlocks. But my database still produces deadlocks, when I need to run a script every hour to clean up 100,000+ rows. Is there a way I can avoid deadlocks in my cleanup script, do I need to set ROWLOCK specifically in that query? Is there a way to increase the number of row level locks that a database uses? How are locks promoted? From row level to page level to table level? My delete script is rather simple: delete statvalue from statValue, (select dateadd(minute,-60, getdate()) as cutoff_date) cd where temporaryStat = 1 and entrydate < cutoff_date Right now I am looking for quick solution, but a long term solution would be even nicer.   When trying to execute a .NET-App, it throws a "PolicyException", because "only one group is allowed". The tool should list existing settings, and allow to delete selected settings. Using caspol to list is not helpful, it is cruel. I've seen there is a simple gui-frontend, which allows to define NEW settings, but it does not allow to list or delete existing settings. Caspol is a nightmare, no wonder anyone uses it by choice. With .NET 1.1 Microsoft delivered a configuration-utility, but for .NET 2.0 i've found nothing.

  I am implementing a dynamic programming algorithm for the knapsack problem in Java. I declare the array and then initialize its size to be [number of objects][capacity of knapsack]. When my number of objects or my capacity gets too large, I get a memory error because I run out of space on the heap. My questions is: If I delete rows from my double array as I go along, will Java free the memory as I delete? Or does Java reserve that memory space for the size of the array I originally created? If it's the latter, is there a way to manually free the memory in Java? Thanks for your Help!

  I'am using Visual Studio 2010, how to set or automatically change owner of the output file from Visual Studio (such as executable file) to user other than administrator? all output files currently is owned by Administrator (due to Visual studio is launch by administrative privilege), so sometime I can't delete those files due to access permissions. sometime visual studio itself can't delete it too (after i ran the executable) until few minutes, its really annoying when I need to rebuild those executable. anyone know what's the actual problem here? error message is : error LNK1168: cannot open [path to file].exe for writing

  Hi, I have a website for which many pages rely on information passed to them (usually in the form of a querystring) or on a session variable. When making a web application, how do you normally handle these particular pages in regards to the sitemap? If you're using the standard ASP.NET menu control, it will render the node on the menu and if you click it, you could get an exception stating that a session variable doesn't exist (if it hasn't been created yet). For example, if you're making a user management area: All of these nodes get rendered, but I don't want the user to click on edit user or delete user without specifying someone to edit or delete. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Problem arises when you have different areas and you don't want to update all your links when you move a controller (and its views) from one area to the other.   Someone recently asked me the difference between a C++ standard operator (e.g. new,delete,sizeof) and function (e.g. tan,delete, malloc). By "standard" I mean those provided by default by the compiler suite, and not user defined. Below were the answers I gave, though neither seemed satisfactory. (1) An operator doesn't need any headers to be included to use it : E.g. you can have a call to new without including any headers. However, a function (say free() ) does need headers included, compulsorily. (2) An operator is defined as such (ie as a class operator) somewhere in the standard headers. A function isn't. Can you critique these answers and give me a better idea of the difference?
