• Javascript eval limits

  Is there a limit to javascript's eval, like in lenght? I'm trying to build an app where you can store JS code in the DB, which you can later load and eval in order to execute it, but i'm reaching a limit. First of all, the code has to all be in one line. Any multiline statements are not executed. Next, i'm reaching a limit in length (i guess). If i execute the code manually, it works, but put that same code in the db, load it via ajax, and try to execute it, and it fails. Any ideas why?

  Hi all, I need to do the following: I have a textbox, which appears in every page of the site, that allows to subscribe to a newsletter. This I've done already and the user is redirected to previous view after subscription. I'd like to add a javascript alert to the page the user is returned to, something like "Thanks for subscribing".   At the very beginning of the javascript file, I have: var lbp = {}; lbp.defaults = { minLength: 40 }; I can successfully alert it afterwards, with: alert(lbp.defaults.minLength); But as soon as I put it inside a function, when I alert, I get "Undefined". What gives, and how do I avoid this? Is it absolutely necessary to pass this variable into each function, for example, by doing: function(lbp) { alert(lbp.defaults.minLength); } I would have thought that defining it first, it would attain global scope and not be required to be passed in? Thanks in advance for enlightening me :)

  I am facing a very strange problem. I have javascript function in my aspx page that i call on the onclick event.but on one particular machine it always automatically called on body onload in infinite loop. Though I already remove all the caching and delte the history and temp files. This seems very strange to me .It works fine on all the machine excpt one. The machine have windows 7 and IE verison 8.0.7600.16385 Can some one please help me. Thanks in advance.

  I'm working on a web app for my company that will let us do some image tagging stuff, and I'd like to be able to generates results in the form of a CSV file. I can do this easily enough by dumping the CSV data to a div or something on the page and having the user copy it out. I'd rather have them hit the a generate button and have a CSV file downloaded as though they clicked on a link to the result, so they can more easily just save the file somewhere convenient. Is it possible to simulate this kind of thing with javascript? I basically want to dynamically generate the file and then let them download it, client side.

  I'm trying to do some browser automation, but I'm having some problems. Basically, what I'd like to do is load a set pages, set some forms options, click a button and view the results for each page that I open. Originally, I tried to do this by placing the pages I wanted to automate in iframes and then using javascript to drive the interactions I want in each, but that results in a Permissions Error, since the sites I want to automate are not on my server. Is there any way around this? The other possibility I've thought of is to use QT's webkit class and the evaluateJavaScript method to accomplish what I'd like to do, but this seems a bit more heavy weight for something that is, conceptually, pretty simple.

  This is a very old problem, but I cannot seem to get my head around the other solutions presented here. I have an object function ObjA() { var a = 1; this.methodA = function() { alert(a); } } which is instantiated like var myObjA = new ObjA(); Later on, I assign my methodA as a handler function in an external Javascript Framework, which invokes it using the apply(...) method. When the external framework executes my methodA, this belongs to the framework function invoking my method. Since I cannot change how my method is called, how do I regain access to the private variable a? My research tells me, that closures might be what I'm looking for.

  I’ve got the basics of a content rotator done, the only problem is it doesn’t loop itself back to the beginning and I cannot figure out why!   I have a very large javascript file: it's over 9,000 lines. The code looks like this: var GlobalVar1 = ""; var GlobalVar2 = null; function A() {...} function B(SomeParameter) {...} I'm using the google compiler and the global variables and functions get renamed a,b,c... and there's a good change that there might be some collision later with some outside code. What I want to do is have my code organized like the jquery library where everything is accessible with $. Is there a way to namespace my code so that everything is behind a # character for example. I'd like to have this to call my code: #.GlobalVar #.functionA(SomeParameter) How can I do this? Thanks.

  Is there a way I can maximize a currently minimized window from Javascript? Here's my situation: I have a series of links that all target the same external window (e.g. "MyNewWindow"). When I click a link, a new window pops up. If I click another link, the page pops up in the same window as expected. If I minimize the "MyNewWindow" popup, I'd like to be able to click another link and have that window maximize. My approach was to put something on the onLoad part of the body so that when the page is refreshed it will automatically "maximize" if it is minimized. Note: Using window.MoveTo() and window.resizeTo() doesnt seem to do the trick (the window stays minimized). Thanks!

The majority of the speakers meant that it will replace native application on your desktop as well as in your mobile phone. I agree that you will be able to make a lot of great stuff with the new technology take bespin for example and the <video> and <canvas> tag will be amazing, but will it completely remove the need for native applications? Is there something you cannot do with Javascript and HTML5?

• javascript not working on localhost

  Ok so I'm lost here, frustrated and pulling my hair and out. Plus probably about to be fired or take a pay cut. I moved Files from a development server to my local machine. The files are consistent (used diff tool), all the dependencies are there. It works for the most part. The problem is that the some of the javascript (not all) is just not working. We're using jquery and a lot of plugins for it. I've checked with the web developer plugin in firefox and all the js files are loading. I cleared the cache in both firefox and chrome multiple times to no avail. The development server is a windows server running wamp. My local machine is running ubuntu. Somebody tell me what I missed.
