  • Fedora error log file

    I am running a java application using this wrapper service yajsw. The problem it just stopped without any error in its logs file. So I was wondering will there be any system log file which will indicate the cause of it going down? Partial of the log file.   • Rebinding Keys on a Dell Keyboard

    I have a Dell Multimedia Keyboard, similar to this one: It has many non-standard keys, like the small circular ones across the top, and the "Multimedia" keys above INSERT/HOME/PAGE_UP. They can be rebound through simple registry entries. I've rebound the button that would normally open "MY COMPUTER" to instead boot the Windows 7 "Snipping Tool", something I find very useful. Now, I'm looking to do some other things that I don't already know how to do. Note that answering this question doesn't necessarily require any knowledge about the keyboard or rebinding the keys: I can add, for any given key, a "ShellExecute" entry, and it will simply execute the following command as if it was typed at a Command Prompt. (I'm aware I dumbed that down rather significantly, but bear with me. I'm not really a Windows guy myself.) I use the volume knob for it's intended purpose, to change volume. I would like to change, however, a different key, to "reset" the Windows volume level back to exactly 50%, or, as it refers to it, "50", on it's 0-100 scale. I'm looking for the "program" (what I would type at a command prompt? these are still just Sys32 programs in the PATH, aren't they?) that, I imagine, would take arguments, to change Sound/Volume settings under Windows 7. Perhaps, for clarification, something that might take the form "C: SetVolume -slevel 50" or something.

    I have used munin in several servers and this is the first time is taking me so much time to set it up. When I telnet munin directly, I can list the services, there is no error at the logs and munin its being updated every 5 minutes. However no html files are created.   • Internet connection issue

    For some reason this laptop doesn't want to stay connected to the Internet... I have to restart the DHCP client service every time to fix the connection problem. Could someone tell me whats going on because I didn't have to usually do this? And I'm not sure if these problems are connected but the sound also disconnects itself and I have to enable it back, but everything that was using audio has to be restarted in order to hear it, even the browser? There are no external speakers and I didn't install any new software. My laptop is an XPS M1530, running Windows Vista.

  • BSOD During Windows 7 Install

    I current have a working XP partition a Dell XPS m1330 laptop along with a working Ubuntu partition. After launching the Windows 7 install DVD from within XP I run through the options for a custom install on a free NTFS partition. Everything seemingly works as it should and then my computer restarts. After choosing to boot into the newly created Windows partition I am given the Windows 7 splash screen only to be followed by the BSOD. Here are the stop codes from the BSOD: stop: 0x0000007b (0x80D86B58,0xc0000034,0x00000000,0x0000000) Googling this tells me that it indicates an 'inaccessable boot drive'. Is it possible that its having problems booting from this partition due to the other existing partitions? I'm thinking that there may be a windows recovery CD workaround this but I am not quite proficient in its capabilities. This is what happens when I try to install by booting from the DVD

There is practical guidance and checklists to help guide lead developers and architects through the common challenges in understanding both existing and new applications. The content concentrates on practical guidance for Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate and is focused on modelling tools.   • Code refactoring with Visual Studio 2010 Part-4

    I have been writing few post with code refactoring features in Visual Studio 2010. This post also will be part of series and this post will be last of the series. In this post I am going explain two features 1) Encapsulate Field and 2) Extract Interface. Let’s explore both features in details. Encapsulate Field: This is a nice code refactoring feature provides by Visual Studio 2010. With help of this feature we can create properties from the existing private field of the class. Let’s take a simple example of Customer Class. In that I there are two private field called firstName and lastName. Below is the code for the class. public class Customer { private string firstName; private string lastName; public string Address { get; set; } public string City { get; set; } } Now lets encapsulate first field firstName with Encapsulate feature. So first select that field and goto refactor menu in Visual Studio 2010 and click on Encapsulate Field. Once you click that a dialog box will appear like following. Now once you click OK a preview dialog box will open as we have selected preview reference changes. I think its a good options to check that option to preview code that is being changed by IDE itself. Dialog will look like following. Once you click apply it create a new property called FirstName. Same way I have done for the lastName and now my customer class code look like following. public class Customer { private string firstName; public string FirstName { get { return firstName; } set { firstName = value; } } private string lastName; public string LastName { get { return lastName; } set { lastName = value; } } public string Address { get; set; } public string City { get; set; } } So you can see that its very easy to create properties with existing fields and you don’t have to change anything there in code it will change all the stuff itself. Extract Interface: When you are writing software prototype and You don’t know the future implementation of that then its a good practice to use interface there. I am going to explain here that How we can extract interface from the existing code without writing a single line of code with the help of code refactoring feature of Visual Studio 2010. For that I have create a Simple Repository class called CustomerRepository with three methods like following. public class CustomerRespository { public void Add() { // Some code to add customer } public void Update() { //some code to update customer } public void Delete() { //some code delete customer } } In above class there are three method Add,Update and Delete where we are going to implement some code for each one. Now I want to create a interface which I can use for my other entities in project. So let’s create a interface from the above class with the help of Visual Studio 2010. So first select class and goto refactor menu and click Extract Interface. It will open up dialog box like following. Here I have selected all the method for interface and Once I click OK then it will create a new file called ICustomerRespository where it has created a interface. Just like following. Here is a code for that interface. using System; namespace CodeRefractoring { interface ICustomerRespository { void Add(); void Delete(); void Update(); } } Now let's see the code for the our class.   • Visual Studio 2008 project file does not load because of an unexpected encoding change.

    In our team we have a database project in visual Studio 2008 which is under source control by Team Foundation Server. Every two weeks or so, after one co-worker checks in, the project file won't load on the other developers machines. The error message is: The project file could not be loaded. Data at the root level is invalid. Line 1, position 1. When I look at the project file in Notepad++, the file looks like this: ??<NUL?NULxNULmNULlNUL NULvNULeNULrNULsNULiNULoNULnNUL ... and so on (you can see <?xml version in this) whereas an normal project file looks like: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?> ... So probably something is wrong with the encoding of the file. This is a problem for us because it turns out to be impossible to get the file encoding correct again. The 'solution' is to throw away the project file an get the last know working version from source control. According to the file, the encoding should be UTF-16. According to Notepad++, the corrupted file is actually UTF-8. My questions are: Why is Visual Studio messing up the encoding of the project file, apparently at random times and at random machines? What should we do to prevent this? When it has happened, is there a possibility to restore the current file in the correct encoding instead of pulling an older version from source control? As a last note: the problem is with one single project file, all other project files don't expose this problem.

  • Do I lose the benefits of macro recording if I develop Excel apps in Visual Studio?

    I've written lots of Excel macros in the past using the following development process: Record a macro. Open the VBA editor. Edit the macro. I'm now experimenting with a Visual Studio 2008 "Excel 2007 Add-In" project (C#), and I'm wondering if I will have to give up this development process. Questions: I know I can still record macros using Excel, but is there any way to access the resulting code in Visual Studio? Or do I just have to copy and paste then C#-ize it? What happens with my "Personal Macro Workbook"? Can I use the macros I have stored in there within C#? Or is there some way to convert them to C#? If there is some support for opening and editing VBA macros in Visual Studio, can you provide a very brief summary of how it works or point me to a good reference? Do you have any other tips for transitioning from writing macros in VBA using Excel's built-in editor to writing them in C# with Visual Studio?

  • FreeNas on Dell Powervault 745N: 2TB Limit?

    I want to purchase 2 x 2TB drives, and install FreeNas on my Dell Powervault 745N. People on the internets seem to be having trouble with the MD3000 firmware, and I want to make sure I can solve any issues before buying the drives. Before I invest, I have 3 questions : Is there a partition size limit determined by the RAID controller? That is, could I have a striped 4TB partition? The spec sheets make me wonder if the RAID controller needs all 4 drives in order to work. Is there any reason this will have to run in RAID5? If I buy 4 matching drives, would the controller support a RAID6 configuration? I'm basically new to all this RAID stuff - sorry for any noob questions.

    I have an ESXi 5.0 Free license host using an internal Datastore (RAID 5, 5 Disk) that was configured with a Dell PERC h310 RAID controller. The disk performance was very poor, so I upgraded to the PERC H710 Mini. The IT Tech installed the controller and powered the host back on. I had to rescan the controller and the datastore appeared. Should any settings be changed in the RAID BIOS, or should the default settings be sufficient? Is they anything to be aware of when performing this type of upgrade in order to achieve the maximum performance?

    Just got a Dell PowerVault NAS storage device running Windows Storage Server Standard which includes NFS. When I try and connect the ESXi server I get the following message: Call "HostDatastoreSystem.CreateNasDatastore" for object "ha-datastoresystem" on ESXi "powerhouse" failed. Operation failed, diagnostics report: Unable to complete Sysinfo operation. Please see the VMkernel log file for more details. I am pretty sure it is a username/password type thing. Not sure were to begin though. Also, I am planning on using "Username Mapping" instead of Active Directory. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

    I have a Dell PowerEdge T710 under my feet at this very moment, with RedHat Enterprise Server 5.3. I have 6 1TB disks and two 500GB. parted reports two devices, one 500 GB and the other 4 TB. So I assume the RAID has been setup as mirror for two disks, and I assume as RAID 5 the remaining ones. I say "I assume" because it does not make sense. Having 6 disks in RAID 5, I should obtain a total space of 5 TB, not 4TB. It's not even RAID 10: I would end up with a 3 TB unit. How can I check and eventually modify the RAID array definition? In the Fujitsu Siemens I played with some time ago, at boot I had the chance to enter the controller BIOS, but here I don't see a clear way to perform this operation.

    hello, At my office we upgraded group of computers to windows 7 + office 2010, few of us have problem that when we work on powerpoint - once in a while the computer suddenly shut down (with out any message). Some of us - has no such problems. We checked and fount that the people who experience problems - use Dell Optiplex 760 PC, and everyone that have no problems use other models. We also found out that the processors of the 760's are not the same - some are Intel E7400 and one is Intel E8400, so I suspect that maybe the mother board is the problem Does any one no this problem?   • Reset DRAC/MC password on Dell BladeCentre 1855

    I have a Dell Blade Centre 1855, and nobody knows what the root password for the DRAC/MC card in the blade chassis is (I tried root/calvin). I do not have IP access to the DRAC/MC, nor do I have physical access to the back of the blade centre to access the DRAC/MC module. I do have serial access (and can see the login prompt in hyperterm). I do have physical access to the FRONT of the chassis (the back of the cabinet is locked and lo-and-behold the key cannot be found). Does anyone know how to reset the password? Every piece of literature I find on the internet tells me I need to log in, or run racadm on the host machine (which I can't, because it's inside a blade chassis). If someone does know how to do it with physical access to the back of the bladecentre, please post it anyway, as I'm sure I'll get access to the back of the cabinet one day)
