  • getting expat to use .dtd for entity replacement in python

    I'm trying to read in an xml file which looks like this <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?> <!DOCTYPE dblp SYSTEM "dblp.dtd"> <dblp> <incollection> <author>Jos&eacute; A. Blakeley</author> </incollection> </dblp> The point that creates the problem looks is the Jos&eacute; A. Blakeley part: The parser calls its character handler twice, once with "Jos", once with " A. Blakeley". Now I understand this may be the correct behaviour if it doesn't know the eacute entity. However, this is defined in the dblp.dtd, which I have. I don't seem to be able to convince expat to use this file, though. All I can say is p = xml.parsers.expat.ParserCreate() # tried with and without following line p.SetParamEntityParsing(xml.parsers.expat.XML_PARAM_ENTITY_PARSING_ALWAYS) p.UseForeignDTD(True) f = open(dblp_file, "r") p.ParseFile(f) but expat still doesn't recognize my entity. Why is there no way to tell expat which DTD to use? I've tried putting the file into the same directory as the XML putting the file into the program's working directory replacing the reference in the xml file by an absolute path What am I missing?   • Mysql: Convert DB from local time to UTC

    I need to convert an existing (datetime fields) db from local time ut UTC. The values are stored ad datetimes on a server with time zone CET (+1) (with summertime +2). When selecting data I use UNIX_TIMESTAMP(), which magically compensates for everything, ie, time zone shift and dst (if i've read the docs right). I'm moving the db to a new server with UTC as system time. Simply subtracting -1 H won't work, as summer time is +2. Any ideas for a clever way to do this? (using sql or some script lang)

    Hello, producing software for customers, mostly using MS SQL but some Oracle, a decision was made to plunge into Nhibernate (and C#). The task is to delete efficiently e.g. 10 000 rows from 100 000 and still stay sticked to ORM. I've tried named queries - link already, IQuery sql = s.GetNamedQuery("native-delete-car").SetString(0, "Kirsten"); sql.ExecuteUpdate(); but the best I have ever found seems to be: using (ITransaction tx = _session.BeginTransaction()) { try { string cmd = "delete from Customer where Id < GetSomeId()"; var count = _session.CreateSQLQuery(cmd).ExecuteUpdate(); ... Since it may not get into dB to get all complete rows before deleting them. My questions are: If there is a better way for this kind of delete. If there is a possibility to get the Where condition for Delete like this: Having a select statement (using LinQ to NHibernate) = which will generate appropriate SQL for DB = we get that Where condition and use it for Delete.     I'm going to build a little system for personal use, and I want it to save data to a database. The language is going to be C#, and so I'd like to use this opportunity to get my head around LINQ to SQL. I have some DB experience and I know my SQL, but it was all in school using Access, which is giving me trouble, and so I'd like to use another DB, something that is small in size, easy to install, and should work with LINQ to SQL. The problem is: I don't know any except Access, and am looking for recommendations. To sum it up: I need a lightweight, easy to install, linq-to-sql supporting database for a small system on a home computer, any recommendations?

    Is it possible to use XSLT to transform XML into something other than XML? e.g. i want the final non-xml content: <HTML> <BODY> <IMG src="file1.png"><BR> <IMG src="file2.png"><BR> ... <IMG src="filen.png"><BR> </BODY> </HTML> You'll notice this document is HTML, because in HTML IMG and BR tags are forbidden from having a closing tag. This constrasts with xhtml, the reformulation of HTML using xml, where all elements are required from having a closing tag (because in xml every tag must be closed). Is it possible, using XSLT, to generate non-xml output? Another example of non-xml output might be: INSERT INTO Documents (Filename) VALUES ('file1.png') INSERT INTO Documents (Filename) VALUES ('file2.png') ... INSERT INTO Documents (Filename) VALUES ('file3.png') The reason i ask is that as soon as my XSLT contains an <IMG>, the stylesheet contains an error; no closing </IMG>.

    I am working with a guild hosting site that provides an XML/XSL transformation widget where all I need to do is enter the URL for the XML and XSL and it does the rest. I have written an XSL transform to display a World of Warcraft armory page: Here is an example XML page (view source to see it) of the group I'm trying to help now. So, the user is entering their own XML page url (which has an eu subdomain in this case, but it is not within the XML itself). So when I make links to the character url, I need to add the entire url <a target="_blank" href="http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?{@url}"> <xsl:value-of select="@name"/> </a> But I can't just set the domain to eu since there are multiple regions. Here are the possibilities: us = www, europe = eu, korea = kr, china = cn and taiwan = tw. Here is a snippet of the XML which shows the url parameters: <character achPoints="4275" classId="3" genderId="0" level="80" name="Virtex" raceId="4" rank="2" url="r=Drek%27Thar&amp;cn=Virtex"/> I guess I could just have the user add a small bit of HTML with their region in another part of their page, something like <div id="region">eu</div>, but I'm trying to make this work without any extra coding on their part.   • A good approach to db planing for reporting service

    The scenario: Big system (~200 tables). 60,000 users. Complex reports that will require me to do multiple queries for each report and even those will be complex queries with inner queries all over the place + some processing in PHP. I have seen an approach, which I am not sure about: Having one centralized, de-normalized, table that registers any activity in the system which is reportable. This table will hold mostly foreign keys, so she should be fairly compact and fast. So, for example (My system is a virtual learning management system), A user enrolls to course, the table stores the user id, date, course id, organization id, activity type (enrollment). Of course I also store this data in a normalized DB, which the actual application uses. Pros I see: easy, maintainable queries and code to process data and fast retrieval. Cons: there is a danger of the de-normalized table to be out of sync with the real DB. Is this approach worth considering, or (preferably from experience) is total $#%#%t?

  • What's the best way to only output a tag if it exists in XSL?

    I'm working on an interface with a 3rd party app that basically needs to take XML that was spat out by the app and convert it into XML our system can deal with. It's basically just applying a stylesheet to the original XML to make it looks like "our" XML. I've noticed that in other stylesheets we have, there are constructs like this: <xsl:for-each select="State"> <StateAbbreviation> <xsl:value-of select="."/> </StateAbbreviation> </xsl:for-each> Basically, the "in" XML has a State tag that I need to output as our recognized StateAbbreviation tag. However, I want to ONLY output the StateAbbreviation tag if the "in" XML contains the State tag. The block above accomplishes this just fine, but is not very intuitive (at least it wasn't to me), as every time I see a for-each I assume there is more than one, whereas in these cases there is 0 or 1. My question: is that a standard-ish construct? If not, is there a more preferred way to do it? I could obviously check the string length (which is also being done in other stylesheets), but would like to do it the same, "best" way everywhere (assuming of course that a "best" way exists. Advice? Suggestions?

To me it looks Async such that the call to Validate() would pass and some non deterministic time later the handler would get called with the result/errors. Is that right?     Hi, I have a table in MySql DB which I want to load it to a dictionary in python. the table columns is as follows: id,url,tag,tagCount tagCount is the number of times that a tag has been repeated for a certain url. So in that case I need a nested dictionary, in other words a dictionary of dictionary, to load this table. Because each url have several tags for which there are different tagCounts.the code that I used is this:( the whole table is about 22,000 records ) cursor.execute( ''' SELECT url,tag,tagCount FROM wtp ''') urlTagCount = cursor.fetchall() d = defaultdict(defaultdict) for url,tag,tagCount in urlTagCount: d[url][tag]=tagCount print d first of all I want to know if this is correct.. and if it is why it takes so much time? Is there any faster solutions? I am loading this table into memory to have fast access to get rid of the hassle of slow database operations, but with this slow speed it has become a bottleneck itself, it is even much slower than DB access. and anyone help? thanks

  • JAXB, how to marshal without a namespace

    I have a fairly large repetitive XML to create using JAXB. Storing the whole object in the memory then do the marshaling takes too much memory. Essentially, my XML looks like this: <Store> <item /> <item /> <item /> ..... </Store> Currently my solution to the problem is to "hard code" the root tag to an output stream, and marshal each of the repetitive element one by one: aOutputStream.write("<?xml version="1.0"?>") aOutputStream.write("<Store>") foreach items as item aMarshaller.marshall(item, aOutputStream) end aOutputStream.write("</Store>") aOutputStream.close() Somehow the JAXB generate the XML like this <Store xmlns="http://stackoverflow.com"> <item xmlns="http://stackoverflow.com"/> <item xmlns="http://stackoverflow.com"/> <item xmlns="http://stackoverflow.com"/> ..... </Store> Although this is a valid XML, but it just look ugly, so I'm wonder is there any way to tell the marshaller not to put namespace for the item elements? Or is there better way to use JAXB to serialize to XML chunk by chunk?

What is the best way (for performance): add sort by field to the SQL-query or sort the data when it's already fetched? I'm using Java (with Hibernate), but I can't tell anything about DB engine. It could be any popular relational database (like MySQL or MS Sql Server or Oracle or HSQL DB or any other). The amount of records in table can vary greatly but let's assume there are 5k records.

    I'm currently working on a ticketing system which allows our users to submit tickets based on their own needs. i.e. if Department "A" is submitting a ticket they can have certain types of problem categories (such as "Supplies" or "Printer") along with details pertaining to the chosen category.   • Servlet doPost() Method setup?

    I am interested in creating a web app that uses JSP, Servlets and XML. At the moment I have the following: JSP - Form input. Servlet - Retrieving Form data and sending that data to a java object. Java object (1) - Converts data into XML file....instantiates java object (2). Java object (2) - Sends that file to a database. On the returning side the database will send back another XML file that I will then process using XSLT to display back to the user. Can I place that XSLT code in the orignial Servlets doPost() method? So my doPost()` method would: Retrieve user inputted data from the form on my JSP page. Instantiate a java object to convert that data to XML, in-turn that object will instantiates another object to send the XML file to a database. Converts the resulting XML file sent from the database and displays it for the user. Can one servlet doPost() method handle all of this? If not, how would I set up my application and classes to handle this work flow? Thank you in advance

    I just wanted to hear the opinion of Hibernate experts about DB schema generation best practices for Hibernate/JPA based projects. Especially: What strategy to use when the project has just started? Is it recommended to let Hibernate automatically generate the schema in this phase or is it better to create the database tables manually from earliest phases of the project? Pretending that throughout the project the schema was being generated using Hibernate, is it better to disable automatic schema generation and manually create the database schema just before the system is released into production? And after the system has been released into production, what is the best practice for maintaining the entity classes and the DB schema (e.g. adding/renaming/updating columns, renaming tables, etc.)? Warning: ZipArchive::extractTo(C:\xampplite\htdocs\testsite/wp-content/themes/mytheme//styles\mytheme/Thumbs.db) [ziparchive.extractto]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in C:\xampplite\htdocs\testsite\wp-content\themes\mythem\uploader.php on line 17 The thing I can't quite figure is that I don't see a thumbs.db file in either the zip archive or the destination folder that was created (the upload still processes, I just get these errors).   • SQLCe local db in temp- path in connectionstring?

    Hi, I have SQL Ce db in my app, which is included in my app directory. While debugging its OK, but when published and run with setup.exe, it retrieves "file not found" in temporary directory the app is ran from. I would like to run from standard location, but I dont know how to change it. I am using this string: SqlCeConnection connection = new SqlCeConnection("Data Source=database.sdf;Persist Security Info=False;"); When I run setup.exe, the app never starts, stating that in its temporary directory the db file was not found. When I run app.exe, it works. I do not understand it...:( EDIT: I can see that in the VS project settings, there is connection string and there is "Data Source=|DataDirectory|\Database.sdf" The path should be something like local directory?     Hello, in my Rails 3 App, I'm posting with jQuery the following: http://0.0.0.0:3000/topics/read_updater?&topic_id=101&read=true In my controller: def read_updater current_user.topics.where(:topic_id => params[:topic_id]).update_all(:read => params[:read]) render :json => {:status => 'success' } end params[:conversation_id] works great, but params[:read] is inserting empty values in the DB, even though jQuery is posting either a true or false. Ideas? I want rails to update the DB with either true or false. Thanks

  • Export DB Tables via phpMyAdmin In Non-Alphabetical Order

    I have a MySQL database from a Joomla MultiSite installation where it has a set of tables with different prefixes for each Joomla site. When I export the db via phpMyAdmin it creates a SQL file where the tables are created and populated in alphabetical order. The problem is that the tables for the slave sites have dependencies on the tables for the master site, but alphabetically their prefixes are ahead of the master site. So the export works fine but when I try importing I get error after error and have to manually move sections around in the SQL file to make sure that the dependent tables are created/populated first. So, is it possible to export a db via phpMyAdmin with the tables in a specific order?

    I'm parsing (a lot of) XML files that contain entity references which i dont know in advance (can't change that fact). For example: xml = "<tag>I'm content with &funny; &entity; &references;.</tag>" when i try to parse this using the following code: final DocumentBuilderFactory dbf = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance(); final DocumentBuilder db = dbf.newDocumentBuilder(); final InputSource is = new InputSource(new StringReader(xml)); final Document d = db.parse(is); i get the following exception: org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: The entity "funny" was referenced, but not declared. but, what i do want to achieve is, that the parser replaces every entity that is not declared (unknown to the parser) with an empty String ''. Or even better, is there a way to pass a map to the parser like: Map<String,String> entityMapping = ... entityMapping.put("funny","very"); entityMapping.put("entity","important"); entityMapping.put("references","stuff"); so that i could do the following: final DocumentBuilderFactory dbf = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance(); final DocumentBuilder db = dbf.newDocumentBuilder(); final InputSource is = new InputSource(new StringReader(xml)); db.setEntityResolver(entityMapping); final Document d = db.parse(is); if i would obtain the text from the document using this example code i should receive: I'm content with very important stuff.     I am putting together an XSD schema to describe an existing GeoRSS feed, but I am stumbling trying to use the external georss.xsd to validate an element of type georss:point. I've reduced the problem to the smallest components thusly: XML: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <this> <apoint>45.256 -71.92</apoint> </this> XSD: <xs:schema xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:georss="http://www.georss.org/georss"> <xs:import namespace="http://www.georss.org/georss" schemaLocation="http://georss.org/xml/1.1/georss.xsd"/> <xs:element name="this"> <xs:complexType> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="apoint" type="georss:point"/> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> </xs:schema> If I make apoint type "xs: string" instead of "georss: point", the XML validates happily against the XSD, but as soon as I reference an imported type (georss: point), my XML validator (Notepad++ | XML Tools) "cannot parse the schema". What am I doing wrong?
