  • are scala's mouse events working? how?

    - by coubeatczech
    Hi, I'm trying to create link-like label in scala. But no mouse events works for me. How are they supposed to work? class Hyperlink extends Label{ text = "hyperlink" reactions += { case MouseClicked(_,_,_,_,_) => println("mouse clicked")}} I put this in some panel and click over the label like a pro minesweeper player... and nothing shows up in console. Why?

  • How can I simulate all mouse and keyboard events in Qt that works on Linux and Windows?

    - by S.Mohammadi
    Problem: I have a device that send to me some commands (e.g: 1,2,3,...), i want simulate mouse and keyboard events according to received commands in Both Linux OS and Windows OS. I worked with bool QCoreApplication::postEvent(QObject *receiver, QEvent *event, int priority = Qt::NormalEventPriority) but i don't know what receiver pass to it and i has problem with MouseMove action with it. I found this help that works good in linux OS, but i have problem with this help approach in Windows OS. Is there any approach that works in both OS? Thanks for your attention.

  • ASP.Net MVC - What replaces events to support loose coupling?

    - by James
    What feature(s) of ASP.Net MVC can replace the way events can be used in Webforms to support loosely coupled components. For example, take a simple pager control: A page number is clicked Pager fires off a "PageChange" event with the new page number This subscribing page/control received the event and handles initiating a call to fetch and bind new data. What tools are available in ASP.Net MVC to support Loose coupling Component re-usability Separation of logic for a single page/view (such a very complex "portal" type page).

  • MySQL table organization and optimization (Rails)

    - by aguynamedloren
    I've been learning Ruby on Rails over the past few months with no prior programming experience. Lately, I've been thinking about database optimization and table organization. I know there are great books on the subject, but I typically learn by example / as I go. Here's a hypothetical situation: Let's say I am building a social network for a niche community with 250,000 members (users). The users have the ability to attend events. Let's say there are 50,000 past/present/future events. Much like Facebook events, a user can attend any number of events and an event can have any number of attendees. In the database, there would be a table for users and a table for events. Somehow I would have to create an association between the users and events. I could create an "events" column in the users table such that each user row would contain a hash of event IDs, or I could create an "attendees" column in the events table such that each event row would contain a hash of user IDs. Neither of these solutions seem ideal, however. On a users profile page, I want to display the list of events they are associated with, which would require scanning the 50,000 event rows for the user ID of said user if I include an "attendees" column in the events table. Likewise, on an event page, I want to display a list of attendees for the event, which would require scanning the 250,000 user rows for the event ID of said event if I include an "events" column in the users table. Option 3 would be to create a third table that contains the attendee information for each and every event - but I don't see how this would solve any problems. Are these non-issues? Rails makes accessing all of this information easy, but I guess I'm worried about scale. It is entirely possible that I am under-estimating the speed and processing power of modern databases / servers / etc. How long would it take to scan 250,000 user rows for specific event IDs - 10ms? 100ms? 1,000ms? I guess that's not that bad. Am I just over-thinking this?

  • Algorithm: how to check intersections of recurring events definitions?

    - by glaz666
    The question comes from MS Outlook calendar behavior. Imagine I have two recurring events (starting from today): "each second Monday" and "every odd date". Is there any way to check intersections and/or find the first intersecting date algorithmically without brute-forcing over each date? Definitions can be made in CRON's notations or ICal notation. I think it doesn't matter. Are there any solutions for this in Gregorian calendar?

  • Why is the this-pointer needed to access inherited attributes?

    - by Shadow
    Hi, assume the following class is given: class Base{ public: Base() {} Base( const Base& b) : base_attr(b.base_attr) {} void someBaseFunction() { .... } protected: SomeType base_attr; }; When I want a class to inherit from this one and include a new attribute for the derived class, I would write: class Derived: public Base { public: Derived() {} Derived( const Derived& d ) : derived_attr(d.derived_attr) { this->base_attr = d.base_attr; } void SomeDerivedFunction() { .... } private: SomeOtherType derived_attr; }; This works for me (let's ignore eventually missing semicolons or such please). However, when I remove the "this-" in the copy constructor of the derived class, the compiler complains that "'base_attr' was not declared in this scope". I thought that, when inheriting from a class, the protected attributes would then also be accessible directly. I did not know that the "this-" pointer was needed. I am now confused if it is actually correct what I am doing there, especially the copy-constructor of the Derived-class. Because each Derived object is supposed to have a base_attr and a derived_attr and they obviously need to be initialized/set correctly. And because Derived is inheriting from Base, I don't want to explicitly include an attribute named "base_attr" in the Derived-class. IMHO doing so would generally destroy the idea behind inheritance, as everything would have to be defined again. EDIT Thank you all for the quick answers. I completely forgot the fact that the classes actually are templates. Please, see the new examples below, which are actually compiling when including "this-" and are failing when omiting "this-" in the copy-constructor of the Derived-class: Base-class: #include <iostream> template<class T> class Base{ public: Base() : base_attr(0) {} Base( const Base& b) : base_attr(b.base_attr) {} void baseIncrement() { ++base_attr; } void printAttr() { std::cout << "Base Attribute: " << base_attr << std::endl; } protected: T base_attr; }; Derived-class: #include "base.hpp" template< class T > class Derived: public Base<T>{ public: Derived() : derived_attr(1) {} Derived( const Derived& d) : derived_attr(d.derived_attr) { this->base_attr = d.base_attr; } void derivedIncrement() { ++derived_attr; } protected: T derived_attr; }; and for completeness also the main function: #include "derived.hpp" int main() { Derived<int> d; d.printAttr(); d.baseIncrement(); d.printAttr(); Derived<int> d2(d); d2.printAttr(); return 0; }; I am using g++-4.3.4. Although I understood now that it seems to come from the fact that I use template-class definitions, I did not quite understand what is causing the problem when using templates and why it works when not using templates. Could someone please further clarify this?

  • Is there a way to detect non-movement (touch events) ?

    - by hyn
    Is there a way to detect a finger's non-movement by using a combination of UITouch events? The event methods touchesEnded and touchesCancelled are only fired when the event is cancelled or the finger lifted. I would like to know when a touch has stopped moving, even while it is still touching the screen.

  • Is there a better way than a sequence of if's to handle events?

    - by Matt
    I recently ran across several objects implemented to handle events with a hard coded mapping using this pattern: public void handleEvent(Event event) { if(event.getCode() == SOME_STATIC_EVENT) doSomething(event); if(event.getCode() == ANOTHER_STATIC_EVENT) doSomethingElse(event); } where doSomething functions are implemented as methods of the same class. In hopes of striving for looser coupling, how would you suggest abstracting out this pattern? Also, what's the best approach for mapping 0..N functions to a fired event?

  • Why is there a Null Pointer Exception in this Java Code?

    - by algorithmicCoder
    This code takes in users and movies from two separate files and computes a user score for a movie. When i run the code I get the following error: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException at RecommenderSystem.makeRecommendation(RecommenderSystem.java:75) at RecommenderSystem.main(RecommenderSystem.java:24) I believe the null pointer exception is due to an error in this particular class but I can't spot it....any thoughts? import java.io.*; import java.lang.Math; public class RecommenderSystem { private Movie[] m_movies; private User[] m_users; /** Parse the movies and users files, and then run queries against them. */ public static void main(String[] argv) throws FileNotFoundException, ParseError, RecommendationError { FileReader movies_fr = new FileReader("C:\\workspace\\Recommender\\src\\IMDBTop10.txt"); FileReader users_fr = new FileReader("C:\\workspace\\Recommender\\src\\IMDBTop10-users.txt"); MovieParser mp = new MovieParser(movies_fr); UserParser up = new UserParser(users_fr); Movie[] movies = mp.getMovies(); User[] users = up.getUsers(); RecommenderSystem rs = new RecommenderSystem(movies, users); System.out.println("Alice would rate \"The Shawshank Redemption\" with at least a " + rs.makeRecommendation("The Shawshank Redemption", "asmith")); System.out.println("Carol would rate \"The Dark Knight\" with at least a " + rs.makeRecommendation("The Dark Knight", "cd0")); } /** Instantiate a recommender system. * * @param movies An array of Movie that will be copied into m_movies. * @param users An array of User that will be copied into m_users. */ public RecommenderSystem(Movie[] movies, User[] users) throws RecommendationError { m_movies = movies; m_users = users; } /** Suggest what the user with "username" would rate "movieTitle". * * @param movieTitle The movie for which a recommendation is made. * @param username The user for whom the recommendation is made. */ public double makeRecommendation(String movieTitle, String username) throws RecommendationError { int userNumber; int movieNumber; int j=0; double weightAvNum =0; double weightAvDen=0; for (userNumber = 0; userNumber < m_users.length; ++userNumber) { if (m_users[userNumber].getUsername().equals(username)) { break; } } for (movieNumber = 0; movieNumber < m_movies.length; ++movieNumber) { if (m_movies[movieNumber].getTitle().equals(movieTitle)) { break; } } // Use the weighted average algorithm here (don't forget to check for // errors). while(j<m_users.length){ if(j!=userNumber){ weightAvNum = weightAvNum + (m_users[j].getRating(movieNumber)- m_users[j].getAverageRating())*(m_users[userNumber].similarityTo(m_users[j])); weightAvDen = weightAvDen + (m_users[userNumber].similarityTo(m_users[j])); } j++; } return (m_users[userNumber].getAverageRating()+ (weightAvNum/weightAvDen)); } } class RecommendationError extends Exception { /** An error for when something goes wrong in the recommendation process. * * @param s A string describing the error. */ public RecommendationError(String s) { super(s); } }

  • SQL Profiler and Tuning Advisor for Reporting Services - what events should be selected?

    - by chris
    I've used the SQL Profiler to generate a trace file, and tuning advisor to take that trace file and provide some recommendations on db updates. However, the SQL Profiler doesn't seem to track the queries when running against a Reporting Server, the profiler doesn't seem to be capturing any of the queries. I'm logging the defaults (SQL:BatchCompleted and Starting, RPC:completed, and Sessions - Existing Connections) What events should I be capturing in SQL Profiler in order to run the tuning advisor?

  • Hopping/Tumbling Windows Could Introduce Latency.

    This is a pre-article to one I am going to be writing on adjusting an event’s time and duration to satisfy business process requirements but it is one that I think is really useful when understanding the way that Hopping/Tumbling windows work within StreamInsight.  A Tumbling window is just a special shortcut version of  a Hopping window where the width of the window is equal to the size of the hop Here is the simplest and often used definition for a Hopping Window.  You can find them all here public static CepWindowStream<CepWindow<TPayload>> HoppingWindow<TPayload>(     this CepStream<TPayload> source,     TimeSpan windowSize,     TimeSpan hopSize,     WindowInputPolicy inputPolicy,     HoppingWindowOutputPolicy outputPolicy )   And here is the definition for a Tumbling Window public static CepWindowStream<CepWindow<TPayload>> TumblingWindow<TPayload>(     this CepStream<TPayload> source,     TimeSpan windowSize,     WindowInputPolicy inputPolicy,     HoppingWindowOutputPolicy outputPolicy )   These methods allow you to group events into windows of a temporal size.  It is a really useful and simple feature in StreamInsight.  One of the downsides though is that the windows cannot be flushed until an event in a following window occurs.  This means that you will potentially never see some events or see them with a delay.  Let me explain. Remember that a stream is a potentially unbounded sequence of events. Events in StreamInsight are given a StartTime.  It is this StartTime that is used to calculate into which temporal window an event falls.  It is best practice to assign a timestamp from the source system and not one from the system clock on the processing server.  StreamInsight cannot know when a window is over.  It cannot tell whether you have received all events in the window or whether some events have been delayed which means that StreamInsight cannot flush the stream for you.   Imagine you have events with the following Timestamps 12:10:10 PM 12:10:20 PM 12:10:35 PM 12:10:45 PM 11:59:59 PM And imagine that you have defined a 1 minute Tumbling Window over this stream using the following syntax var HoppingStream = from shift in inputStream.TumblingWindow(TimeSpan.FromMinutes(1),HoppingWindowOutputPolicy.ClipToWindowEnd) select new WindowCountPayload { CountInWindow = (Int32)shift.Count() };   The events between 12:10:10 PM and 12:10:45 PM will not be seen until the event at 11:59:59 PM arrives.  This could be a real problem if you need to react to windows promptly This can always be worked around by using a different design pattern but a lot of the examples I see assume there is a constant, very frequent stream of events resulting in windows always being flushed. Further examples of using windowing in StreamInsight can be found here

  • Why do I get a null pointer exception from TabWidget?

    - by rushinge
    I'm writing an android program in which I have an activity that uses tabs. The Activity public class UnitActivity extends TabActivity { @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); TabHost tabHost = getTabHost(); TabSpec spec; Resources res = getResources(); LayoutInflater.from(this).inflate(R.layout.unit_view, tabHost.getTabContentView(), true); spec = tabHost.newTabSpec("controls"); spec.setIndicator("Control", res.getDrawable(R.drawable.ic_tab_equalizer)); spec.setContent(R.id.txtview); tabHost.addTab(spec); } } The XML referenced by R.layout.unit_view <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <TabHost xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@android:id/tabhost" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <LinearLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:padding="5dp"> <TabWidget android:id="@android:id/tabs" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/> <FrameLayout android:id="@android:id/tabcontent" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:padding="5dp"> <TextView android:id="@+id/txtview" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:gravity="bottom" android:text="nullpointer this!" /> </FrameLayout> </LinearLayout> </TabHost> As far as I can see I'm doing the same thing I see in the tabs1 api sample from the android sdk. I've tried "getLayoutInflator()" instead of "LayoutInflator.from(this)" with the same result. If I replace the LayoutInflater line with "setContentView(R.layout.unit_view)" my program doesn't crash with a null pointer exception but my content is completely blank and empty. I get the tab and that's it. I've checked to make sure R.layout.unit_view and tabHost are not null when it runs the LayoutInflater line and they seem to be fine. They're defenitely not null. I've also checked to make sure LayoutInflater.from(this) returns a valid layout inflater object and it does. The logcat indicating the error says E/AndroidRuntime( 541): java.lang.NullPointerException E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at android.widget.TabWidget.dispatchDraw(TabWidget.java:206) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at android.view.ViewGroup.drawChild(ViewGroup.java:1529) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchDraw(ViewGroup.java:1258) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at android.view.ViewGroup.drawChild(ViewGroup.java:1529) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchDraw(ViewGroup.java:1258) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at android.view.ViewGroup.drawChild(ViewGroup.java:1529) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchDraw(ViewGroup.java:1258) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at android.view.ViewGroup.drawChild(ViewGroup.java:1529) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchDraw(ViewGroup.java:1258) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at android.view.ViewGroup.drawChild(ViewGroup.java:1529) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchDraw(ViewGroup.java:1258) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at android.view.ViewGroup.drawChild(ViewGroup.java:1529) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchDraw(ViewGroup.java:1258) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at android.view.View.draw(View.java:6538) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at android.widget.FrameLayout.draw(FrameLayout.java:352) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at android.view.ViewGroup.drawChild(ViewGroup.java:1531) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchDraw(ViewGroup.java:1258) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at android.view.ViewGroup.drawChild(ViewGroup.java:1529) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchDraw(ViewGroup.java:1258) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at android.view.View.draw(View.java:6538) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at android.widget.FrameLayout.draw(FrameLayout.java:352) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow$DecorView.draw(PhoneWindow.java:1830) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at android.view.ViewRoot.draw(ViewRoot.java:1349) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at android.view.ViewRoot.performTraversals(ViewRoot.java:1114) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at android.view.ViewRoot.handleMessage(ViewRoot.java:1633) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:123) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:4363) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:521) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:860) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:618) E/AndroidRuntime( 541): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) I/Process ( 61): Sending signal.   • Why do you have to explicitly specify scope with friendly_id?

    - by nfm
    I'm using the friendly_id gem. I also have my routes nested: # config/routes.rb map.resources :users do |user| user.resources :events end So I have URLs like /users/nfm/events/birthday-2009. In my models, I want the event title to be scoped to the username, so that both nfm and mrmagoo can have events birthday-2009 without them being slugged. # app/models/event.rb def Event < ActiveRecord::Base has_friendly_id :title, :use_slug => true, :scope => :user belongs_to :user ... end I'm also using has_friendly_id :username in my User model. However, in my controller, I'm only pulling out events pertinent to the user who is logged in (current_user): def EventsController < ApplicationController def show @event = current_user.events.find(params[:id]) end ... end This doesn't work; I get the error ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound; expected scope but got none. # This works @event = current_user.events.find(params[:id], :scope => 'nfm') # This doesn't work, even though User has_friendly_id, so current_user.to_param _should_ return "nfm" @event = current_user.events.find(params[:id], :scope => current_user) # But this does work! @event = current_user.events.find(params[:id], :scope => current_user.to_param) SO, why do I need to explicitly specify :scope if I'm restricting it to current_user.events anyway? And why does current_user.to_param need to be called explicitly? Can I override this?

  • codeigniter differentiate field names in JOINed tables

    - by Patrick
    Hi, I need to retrieve data from two tables. the first is a list of events, the second is a list of venues. I have a fields with the same name in both tables: events.venue (which is an ID) and venues.venue is the name of the place, say "blues bar". The tables can be joined on events.venue = venues.id. Snippet of my model: $this->db->select('events.*, venues.*'); $this->db->join('venues', 'events.venue = venues.id'); if ($date != 'all') { $this->db->where('date', $date); } if ($keyword) { $this->db->like('description', $keyword); $this->db->or_like('band', $keyword); $this->db->or_like('venue', $keyword); $this->db->or_like('genre', $keyword); } $Q = $this->db->get('events'); if ($Q->num_rows() > 0) { foreach ($Q->result() as $row) { $data[] = $row; } } $Q->free_result(); return $data; Snippet of the View: foreach ($events as $row) { echo "<p>{$row->band} ({$row->genre})<br />"; echo "Playing at: {$row->venue}<br /></p>"; // echoes "blues bar" //more here... } 2 Questions: 1) Why does $row-venue echo venues.venue, instead of events.venue? B) how can I differentiate them? eg. What if I want to echo both events.venue and venues.venue? I can probably do something like "SELECT venues.venue as name_of_the_venue", but how can I do this when I've already selected *?
