  • Synchronize Data between a Silverlight ListBox and a User Control

    One of the great things about XAML is the powerful data-binding capabilities. If you load up a list box with a collection of objects, you can display detail data about each object without writing any C# or VB.NET code. Take a look at Figure 1 that shows a collection of Product objects in a list box. When you click on a list box you bind the current Product object selected in the list box to a set of controls in a user control with just a very simple Binding statement in XAML.  Figure 1: Synchronizing a ListBox to a User Control is easy with Data Binding Product and Products Classes To illustrate this data binding feature I am going to just create some local data instead of using a WCF service. The code below shows a Product class that has three properties, namely, ProductId, ProductName and Price. This class also has a constructor that takes 3 parameters and allows us to set the 3 properties in an instance of our Product class. You bind the ItemsSource of the list box to the static resource named productCollection. The binding uses the ElementName attribute to bind to the list box name, in this case “lstData”. The Path of the data is SelectedItem. These two attributes together tell Silverlight to bind the DataContext to the selected item of the list box. That selected item is a Product object.     I am looking people's opinion and experience on using chart controls within an ASP.NET application (web forms or MVC) primarily but also in any kind of project. I am currently doing my research and I have a pretty big list of controls to evaluate.   • Dynamic controls not creating with RSS reader function

    Hello, I am working on a test project for an RSS reader. I am using Chilkat's module for .NET 3.5. What I am trying to do is this: For each item in the RSS feed, I want to dynamically create some controls (labels) that contain stuff like the title, the link and the publication date. The problem is that only the first control comes up "rssTitle", but not the rest and it's definitely not creating the rest, nor cycling through the RSS items. Any ideas where I'm wrong in my code?   • ASP .NET confusion - server controls

    I have read through the information in this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/22084/asp-net-aspxxx-controls-versus-standard-html but am still rather confused. The situation was I was asked to do a web project where I made a wizard. When I was done with the project everyone asked why I had used an <asp:Wizard...>. I thought this was what was being asked for, but apparently not, so after this I was led to believe that server controls were just prototyping tools. However, the next project I did my DB queries through C# code-behind and loaded the results via html. I was then asked why I had not used a gridview and a dataset. Does anyone have a list of pros and cons why they would choose to use specific html controls over specific server controls and why? I guess I'm looking for a list... what server controls are okay to use and why? EDIT: I guess this question is open ended, so I'll clarify a few more specific questions... Is it okay to use very simple controls such as asp:Label or do these just end up wasting space? It seems like it would be difficult to access html in the code behind otherwise. Are there a few controls that should just never be used? Does anyone have a good resource that will show me pros and cons of each control?

    Hello, Scenario is, database is in the maintenance phase. this database is not developed by ours developer. it is an existing database developed by the 'xyz' company in sql server 2000. This is real time database, where i am working now. I wanted to write the stored procedure which will retrieve me the records From date1 to date 2.so query is : Select * from MyTableName Where colDate>= '3-May-2010' and colDate<= '5-Oct-2010' and colName='xyzName' whereas my understanding I must get data including upper bound date as well as lower bound date. but somehow I am getting records from '3-May-2010' (which is fine but) to '10-Oct-2010' As i observe in table design , for ColDate, developer had used 'varchar' to store the date. i know this is wrong remedy by them. so in my stored procedure I have also used varchar parameters as @FromDate1 and @ToDate to get inputs for SP. this is giving me result which i have explained. i tried to take the parameter type as 'Datetime' but it is showing error while saving/altering the stored procedure that "@FromDate1 has invalid datatype", same for "@ToDate". situation is that, I can not change the table design at all. what i have to do here ? i know we can use user defined table in sql server 2008 , but there is version sql server 2000. which does not support the same.   • Working Qt controls in a 3d environment

    I need some advice from a Qt expert. The background: I have a 3D engine (ogre3d) working in concert with Qt. The 3D Content is displayed in a widget (using a custom OS window in the client area). I'm able to overlay arbitrary Qt widgets onto the 3d world using the widget render() method and a shared bitmap. This makes a great "heads up display". I can use the standard Qt style sheets and animation using this technique. My goal I'd like to go a step further and allow the user to move these rendered widgets using the mouse. I'd like some advice on the best way to implement this. Possible solutions: The widgets in the HUD are not part of the inheritance chain. I render them manually. They don't get events though. I could add them to the inheritance chain so they get events in the usual way. Then I would need to change them to render to my shared bitmap instead of to the operating system. I looked at this once but couldn't find enough information to implement it. Capture mouse events in the 3D display widget and EMIT them to child controls. I basically create my own event handling chain. Any suggestions on how to implement this? I'm also considering switching to Qt5. I'm not sure how that might affect this decision.

  • How to add user to other filesystem

    I'm trying to work out how to add a user to a separate filesystem, as described here, specifically point 5: Add a local user and password for the user, then add the user to the adm and sudo groups. I've read around chroot, but I don't believe this will work as the default command to run is /bin/bash, which would require the target fs to be binary compatible. In this case, the target fs is armel so isn't compatible.

  • samba 3.5 "force user" doesn't seem to be sticking

    After installing a new OS with newer version of samba, I'm having trouble accessing my shares. I can browse to the specific share, but only to the top level. As best I can tell from the logs, it seems the "force user" in the samba config isn't sticking beyond the initial connection. Details below. I installed a new version of CentOS on my storage server. My old CentOS (4?)install had samba version 3.0.33, new CentOS is using 3.5.10. No domain/AD involved ... just home workgroup. no real security... just some shares hidden & some defined as read-only. here's my config: [global] workgroup = WORKGROUP server string = Samba Server Version %v netbios name = luna security = share # logs split per machine log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m log level = 2 # max 50KB per log file, then rotate max log size = 50 winbind use default domain = Yes [strge] comment = please path = /storage browseable = yes read only = no force user = windowsguest force group = users guest ok = yes So... the problem I'm running into is that the 'force user' only seems to hold for the initial connection & I see all the top level folders fine. When I drill into a folder I get access denied - which appears to be due to my windows user info being sent (trys to authenticate xuser - a non-existant user to samba, so maps to nobody & fails). Here's the smb error msg: [2012/11/29 14:30:27.326195, 2] auth/auth.c:314(check_ntlm_password) check_ntlm_password: Authentication for user [xuser] -> [xuser] FAILED with error NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER [2012/11/29 14:30:27.326251, 2] auth/auth.c:314(check_ntlm_password) check_ntlm_password: Authentication for user [nobody] -> [nobody] FAILED with error NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER Most of the top level directories are 755, some 777. Either way, can not access them. If I do a chown -R windowsguest.users ... no change... but if I do a chmod -R to 777 or 755 they become browsable... but still can't create files (even for 777 ones). Not sure what role it plays if any... but had to recreate the user windowsguest under the new os install, uid & gid match old user. Seems the main issue as far as I can tell is that samba isn't maintaining the 'force user' - but I could be wildly off base. Client OS is win7 pro x64. Thanks for any suggestions or advice!

  • /etc/inputrc does not seem to be recognized as user on Ubuntu 8.04.2 LTS

    On a new installation of Ubuntu 8.04.2 LTS, logging in as a standard user does not maintain the keybindings (whether through sudo su - or direct from ssh). As the root user everything is fine and /root/.inputrc does not exist (only /etc/inputrc) which has its default settings. In addition setting a ~/.bashrc and ~/.profile to the same as the root user (and chown'ing to user:user) has no effect. Am I missing something here?
