  • Scala - Java = ? (Or Clojure - Java = ?)

    - by Kaveh Shahbazian
1 - Is it possible for a developer to use Scala without knowing Java? 2 - Is it possible for a developer to use Clojure without knowing Java? Note: For example I am a C# developer and I use .NET without knowing any VB (Of-course WF 4.0 uses VB for statements, so I refuse any projects involving WF 4.0 :) ).

  • LD_DEBUG and java

    - by solotim
When I set LD_DEBUG=files and run my Java program, I found many errors like this: /linux/depot/java-1.6.0_16_32/jre/lib/i386/libjava.so: error: symbol lookup error: undefined symbol: Java_sun_java2d_loops_MaskBlit_MaskBlit (fatal) This info is horrifying, but obviously my program runs OK. Can anyone tell me why this happens?

  • Concatenative language inrepreter in Java

    - by Vojislav Stojkovic
I'm interested in finding a concatenative language interpreter in Java. Ideally, it should satisfy the following conditions: It has an interpreter, not (only) a bytecode compiler for JVM. The language itself has decent documentation, not only a few examples and a "I'll document the rest someday" notice. The project is not completely abandoned. In short, I'm looking for a reasonably "alive" concatenative language that can be embedded into Java easily.

  • Deleting locked files with Java?

    - by Marcus
We have to delete some directories and their contents using Java running on Windows. I was worried about running into the directory files being locked. We could just invoke Unlocker to do the delete. Or is there a more Java centric way to handle this situation?

  • Put a java socket-like program in a cloud service

    - by user293030
I developed a server side java program, basically is a relay server so I can easily pass NATs and firewalls. The program works, but now I need a cloud service to host it. Do you know where/how I can put a java socket-like program in the cloud? Obviously, I prefer a free service or at least a free service while I'm testing. Thank you!

  • Plugin support for a Java swing App (like Eclipse)

    - by Sudar
I need to add Plugin support to a Java Swing App (like in Eclipse). The Plugin should have the ability to add new Menu items and tab components to the swing app. I am looking for frameworks or libraries which support it. So far I have found Java Plugin Framework http://jpf.sourceforge.net/ and planning to use it. Are there any other better alternatives to it?

  • How to resize controls at runtime in java

    - by user1349213
Is there a way to resize a control, a JTextfield for example, at runtime in java? I want my textfield to have the resize cursors (just like when you point your cursor on the corner of a window) and will be able to resize on runtime. Ive read on the internet that vb6 and C# have those capabilities, is there anything for java? A sample code or a link to a good tutorial will be very much appreciated. Thank you.

  • Good way to create PDF from Office documents in Java

    - by Sindri Traustason
I'm looking for a good way to convert Office (mostly Microsoft) documents to PDF in Java. I've been looking at using the OpenOffice SDK but from the samples I've looked at it looks like this requires having OpenOffice running in server mode to do the work. Does anyone know of a good way to do this? Good meaning the less external requirements, the better. A 100% Java API would be best, but I don't expect that actually exists.

Problem: Turn "my testtext TARGETSTRING my testtext" into "my testtext targetstring my testtext" Perl supports the "\L"-operation which can be used in the replacement-string. • Java Save Object to File

    - by Kristian Matthews
I've tried implementing various methods from around the internet, all seem to be providing the same solution. But it just won't work and I'm unsure why, it creates the file, however, it's blank and if I try loading that file, it has an error. Main.java contains the code to save and load the file: 190-224. Rooms.java contains the object. Code Any help is greatly appreciated, I've been trying for almost a week now! Thanks in advanced!

  • Java return to position N in call stack.

    - by Finbarr
Using the return keyword in Java code will return execution to the last piece of calling code in the call stack. If object foo calls baz.bar(), the return keyword in the bar method will continue code execution in foo. Let's say I have object foo that calls foofoo that calls foofoofoo in the above scenario, and foofoofoo calls baz.bar(). Is there anyway in Java to use the return keyword, or something else, so that the code in the bar method can return all the way back up to foo? (WITHOUT THROWING AN EXCEPTION)
