• Network configuration problem

  in my dorm I have to change network configuration and then if it is successfull, I have to enter a user name and password for wired internet connection. Anyway, I had many attempts but I couldnt achieve, and please look at my steps and tell me if there is something wrong and at the end there is an error, but I really dont have any idea about this error. • Why does Internet Explorer break "pegman" display in Google Maps API v3?

  On my site here, the SteetView control, aka "Pegman", works great under Firefox. Under IE (7 in this case, but tested on 8 as well - same result) it breaks the display of the pegman control. Can't imagine that's the cause though (works in v2 of the maps). Have I found a bug or is there something wrong in my code? Thanks in advance!

• UIView using Quartz rendering engine to display PDF has poor quality compared to original.

  I'm using the quartz rendering engine to display a PDF file on the iphone using the 3.0 SDK. The result is a bit blurry compared to a PDF being shown in a UIWebView. How can I improve the quality in the UIView so that I don't need to rewrite my app to use the UIWebView. I'm using pretty much close to the example code that Apple provides. Here is some of my sample code: CGContextRef gc = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); CGContextSaveGState(gc); CGContextTranslateCTM(gc, 0.0, rect.size.height); CGContextScaleCTM(gc, 1.0, -1.0); CGAffineTransform m = CGPDFPageGetDrawingTransform(page, kCGPDFCropBox, rect, 0, false); CGContextConcatCTM(gc, m); CGContextSetGrayFillColor(gc, 1.0, 1.0); CGContextFillRect(gc, rect); CGContextDrawPDFPage(gc, page); CGContextRestoreGState(gc); Apple's tutorial code actually results in a blurry PDF view as well. If you drop the same PDF into a UIWebView you'll see it is actually sharper. Anyone have any ideas? This one issue is holding a two year development project from launching. :(

• Flex 3.5.0; Update ComboBox display list upon dataprovider change

  Hello, I have two related ComboBoxes ( continents, and countries ). When the continents ComboBox changes I request a XML from a certain URL. When I receive that XML i change the DataProvider for the countries ComboBox, like this: public function displayCountryArray( items:XMLList ):void { this.resellersCountryLoader.alpha = 0; this.resellersCountry.dataProvider = items; this.resellersCountry.dispatchEvent( new ListEvent( ListEvent.CHANGE ) ); } I dispatch the ListEvent.CHANGE because I use it to change another ComboBox so please ignore that (and the 1st line ). So, my problem is this: I select "ASIA" from the first continents, then the combobox DATA get's updated ( I can see that because the first ITEM is an item with the label '23 countries' ). I click the combo then I can see the countries. NOW, I select "Africa", the first item is displayed, with the ComboBox being closed, then when I click it, the countries are still the ones from Asia. Anyway, if I click an Item in the list, then the list updates correctly, and also, it has the correct info ( as I said it affects other ComboBoxes ). SO the only problem is that the display list does not get updated. In this function I tried these approaches Converting XMLList to XMLCollection and even ArrayCollection Adding this.resellersCountry.invalidateDisplayList(); Triggering events like DATA_CHANGE and UPDATE_COMPLETE I know they don't make much sense, but I got a little desperate. Please note that when I used 3.0.0 SDK this did not happen. Sorry if I'm stupid, but the flex events are killing me.

• Python: some newbie questions on sys.stderr and using function as argument

Is there a better way to write this (maybe with just 1 function) and is there any other thing I should be concerned under exiting? Now to some background... Sometimes I will call logThis just to log and display. Other times I want to call it and exit. Initially I was doing this: logThis ("ERROR. EXITING") sys.exit() Then I figured that wouldn't properly set the stderr, thus the current code shown on the top. My first idea was actually passing "sys.exit" as an argument, and defining just logThis ("ERROR. EXITING", call=sys.exit) defined as following (showing just the relevant differenced part): def logThis (text, display="", call=print): msg = str(now.strftime("%Y-%m-%d %H:%M")) + " TREfNOC: " + text call msg + display But that obviously didn't work. I think Python doesn't store functions inside variables. I couldn't (quickly) find anywhere if Python can have variables taking functions or not! Maybe using an eval function? I really always try to avoid them, tho. Sure I thought of using if instead of another def, but that wouldn't be any better or worst. Anyway, any thoughts?

  I need to create a PDF file from the HTML I have created usign rrdcgi. This page contains the details and graphs in PNG format. I have written the below code using Perl module HTML::HTMLDoc to create a PDF file using saved HTML file.   I have an AdvancedDataGrid with a custom label function whose value can change based on other form status (specifically, there's a drop down to choose the time display format for some columns). The columns that have time formats have formatColumnTime as their labelFunction value, because extracting the seconds in that function and passing it in to the formatters made for a more testable app (IMHO). So, when the timeFormat.selectedItem value changes, I want to force my grid to re-calculate the labels of these colums. What method must I call on it? invalidateProperties() didn't work, so that's out.

• HTML Element doesn't display when served with php5, restart server with php4 and Element displays.

  Get this...I start the server in php5 and a specific HTML element ('a' element with a background image) is nowhere to be seen, I reboot the server in php4 and the HTML element is displaying properly. I boot back and forth between php5 and php4 with absolute consistent results, not displaying in php5 and displaying in php4. The thing that blows my mind is that: the HTML is consistent between boots of php5/4, so both scenarios have the necessary HTML elements the CSS is consistent between boots of php5/4, so both scenarios have the necessary CSS definitions there is an identically styled sibling element, with different class name that displays properly the problem is reproducible between browsers, between platforms. I've tested it on every possible config, Mac/Windows, IE6,7,8, FireFox, Safari etc... When the server is booted in php5 there is one HTML element that just doesn't display/render. A stab in the dark, I turned on PHP error reporting in php5 (to see if there would be any clues there) and low and behold the HTML element is now rendering in php5. I turn off PHP error reporting, and restart php5 and the HTML element is still rendering in php5, and the problem has been fixed...and I can't get the problem to reproduce. This is why my curiosity has brought me here. I just spent about four hours scratching my head trying to figure out how this could be. And now, I ask any php web dev gurus out there...what the heck was this all about?

• How do I display grouped XML data in a Flex pie chart?

  I've looked into grouping XML data with GroupingCollections and AdvancedDataGrids, but I can't figure out how to display that data in a chart. Basically, what I want to do is group the data by the category field, which should give me two rows under red, one under blue, and one under green. When inputting this data into the pie chart, it should take up the right amount of space (1/2 for red, 1/4 each for blue and green). I don't need the other_data field, as I'd like to use the group name (category in this case) as the callout. Any suggestions? • Adding a minimum display time for Silverlight splash screen.

  When hosting a silverlight application on a webpage it is possible to use the splashscreensource parameter to specify a simple Silverlight 1.0 (xaml+javascript) control to be displayed while the real xap file is downloaded, and which can receive notification of the downloads progress through onSourceDownloadProgressChanged. If the xap file is in cache, the splash screen is not shown (and if the download only takes 1 second, the splash screen will only be shown for 1 second). I know this is not best practice in general, but I am looking for a way to specify a minimum display time for the splash screen - even if the xap cached or the download is fast, the splash screen would remain up for at least, let's say, 5 seconds (for example to show a required legal disclaimer, corporate identity mark or other bug). I do want to do it in the splash screen exclusively (rather then in the main xap) as I want it to be clean and uninterupted (for example a sound bug) and shown to the user as soon as they open the page, rather then after the download (which could take anywhere from 1 to 20+ seconds). I'd prefer not to accomplish this with preloading - replacing the splash screen with a full Silverlight xap application (with it's own loading screen), which then programmably loads and displays the full xap after a minimum wait time.

However, when a user is not logged in, there is nothing displayed there. When the user is NOT logged in, is there a way to display a "Login" text link that takes you to the log in page and then "disappears" once the user is logged in? Any help is appreciated. • JSP: How can I still get the code on my error page to run, even if I can't display it?

  I've defined an error-page in my web.xml: <error-page> <exception-type>java.lang.Exception</exception-type> <location>/error.jsp</location> </error-page> In that error page, I have a custom tag that I created. The tag handler for this tag e-mails me the stacktrace of whatever error occurred. For the most part this works great. Where it doesn't work great is if the output has already begun being sent to the client at the time the error occurs. In that case, we get this: SEVERE: Exception Processing ErrorPage[exceptionType=java.lang.Exception, location=/error.jsp] java.lang.IllegalStateException I believe this error happens because we can't redirect a request to the error page after output has already started. The work-around I've used is to increase the buffer size on particularly large JSP pages. But I'm trying to write a generic error handler that I can apply to existing applications, and I'm not sure it's feasible to go through hundreds of JSP pages making sure their buffers are big enough. Is there a way to still allow my stack trace e-mail code to execute in this case, even if I can't actually display the error page to the client?

  Hi, I've been stuck with this problem where there are 3 steps in an asp wizard control. The first step has a radiobutton (yes and no) and based on the radio button input chosen by the user, i would need to hide or show a label in the second wizardstep. Example: Step 1: Choose 1 among the two options: Yes No (radStep1) Step 2: if the radiobutton option in the previous step was yes.. then display a label(lblStep2) in this step.. Else hide the label. I've been handling this through the jquery as i want the functionality in the aspx page itself...   I have a simple view that feeds a home page. I have a custom module that registers some specific URLs in hook_menu that I pass into my module so I can pass them as arguments into the view. I can get the module to display the view all right, but it doesn't use the teaser/is_front view that outputs when I access the home page. I looked through the APIs but I can't seem to figure out how I can output the view via my module as if it's the front page, meaning $is_front is true and the teasers would appear. The reason I'm not passing in the arguments via the URL bar into the view itself is: My argument list is known and finite The argument order is mixed, meaning I will sometimes have /argument1, /argument1/argument2 or just /argument2. I only want to capture the first level URL as an argument for specific, known strings (e.g. I don't want to pass /admin into my view but I do want to pass in /los-angeles, which I register in the menu system via hook_menu in my module) Here are some examples to make this more clear: /admin - loads the admin page /user - loads the login page /boston - passes into the first argument of the view; shows in front/teaser mode / - shows view with no arguments /bread - passes into argument 2 of the view; shows in front/teaser mode /boston/bread - Passes into argument 1 and 2 of the view; shows in front/teaser mode Maybe I'm going about this the wrong way?   I have two ObservableCollections, say ObservableCollection<Cat> and ObservableCollections<Dog>. Cat and Dog both derive from class Pet. I want to display a list of all Pets. How do I do this? I prefer not want create a new ObservableCollection<Pet> by adding items from the two source lists because this list will become stale as more Cats and Dogs are added to the source lists. I can think of two approaches: 1) Create a "Decorator" ObservableCollection that keeps the two source collections as members and iterates over them every time. 2) Create an ObservableCollection<Pet> that does have the combined elements of the two source collections, but is also dependent on the source collections. Thus if a Cat is added to the Cat collection, this collection is notified and it adds the new Cat to itself. Is there a standard way to solve this issue? I don't want to reinvent the wheel!

• Silverlight: How can I built an overview display block for any XAML?

  Hi all, I am trying to create a generic "overview" control for any XAML. A good example of the desired effect would be on Google Maps or Bing maps: The main map zooms into some content, while a small "overview" block is docked to one of the map corners, showing the user where he/she is zoomed into. My content is all placed inside a <Canvas>, which can then be scaled and zoomed with transforms. While the user does this kind of navigation, I would like to give them a visual indication of where they are in the larger context of the content. I have tried to take a 'screenshot' of the XAML before the user starts navigating, i.e. create a WriteableBitmap wbImageData = new WriteableBitmap(TheCanvas, null); and then displaying it in an Image. Based on the user's scrolling and zooming activity, a Rectangle displays which part of the content is currently visible in the display area. This works OK-ish (still clunky), but the image has to be redone everytime the content changes. Is there a simple way to create this kind of preview, or does anyone know of a component that does it?   If I can, i'd rather not use a service like FeedBurner. My setup: I've setup a RSS feed link on a self-hosted Wordpress website, clicking the RSS link in Safari shows the feed - because Safari has a built in RSS reader. Great. Unfortunately clicking the same RSS link in Chrome displays the raw XML feed. I know why this happens - Chrome doesn't have a built in RSS reader. I also assume this will be the same in older versions of Internet Explorer. Possible solution? I've noticed http://www.bbc.co.uk/news has a nice solution: Click the RSS feed (top tight of the page) in a RSS enabled browser (Safari) and it uses the built in RSS reader to display the RSS feed. Click the same RSS feed link in Chrome (Chrome has no built in RSS reader) it displays the RSS feed using what looks like a custom page. Is there a way to check if a browser has a built in RSS reader? How would I provide alternative content (like the BBC site) to a browser that doesn't have a RSS reader installed? Any help on this would be brilliant, thanks for taking the time to read this. Stephen
