• How do I remove the FGLRX drivers after I've installed them by hand?

  I installed ati-driver-installer-11-9-x86.x86_64.run downloaded from the ATI Website. However I installed the generic version instead of building a distribution specific installer. Now I have the gnome-shell graphic glitches that are associated with having the old Fglrx drivers installed. How can I remove these drivers? They do not show up in the additional drivers dialog, and I cannot install any other drivers till these are removed.

  So I'm currently using Ubuntu 13.04 on a Lenovo Thinkpad R61i laptop and the problem I have is that the actual sound volume doesn't grow linearly with the change of the volume slider position: in the range from 0% to 75% it grows very slowly, but in the range from 75% to 100% does so very rapidly - so that a small change of the slider's position corresponds to an unproportionally large change in volume. What might be the case and how can I fix it? Used to work well on Ubuntu 11.*

• How can I set up VLANs in a way that won't put me at risk for VLAN hopping?

  We're planning to migrate our production network from a VLAN-less configuration to a tagged VLAN (802.1q) configuration. This diagram summarizes the planned configuration: One significant detail is that a large portion of these hosts will actually be VMs on a single bare-metal machine. In fact, the only physical machines will be DB01, DB02, the firewalls and the switches. All other machines will be virtualized on a single host. One concern that has been is that this approach is complicated (overcomplicated implied), and that the VLANs are only providing an illusion of security, because "VLAN hopping is easy". Is this a valid concern, given that multiple VLANs will be used for a single physical switch port due to virtualization? How would I setup my VLANs appropriately to prevent this risk? Also, I've heard that VMWare ESX has something called "virtual switches". Is this unique to the VMWare hypervisor? If not, is it available with KVM (my planned hypervisor of choice)?. How does that come into play?

  I'm looking for a GUI library built on top of DirectX- preferably 9, but I can also do 11. I've looked at stuff like DXUT, but it's way too much for me- I'm only needing some UI controls which I would rather not write (and debug) myself, and their need to keep a C-compatible API is definitely a big downside. I'd rather look at UI libs that are designed to be integrated into an existing DirectX-based system, rather than forming the basis of a system. Any recommendations?

  I just did a fresh install of 11.10 32 bit and I can't get my wireless to work. I installed the drivers the Broadcom STA wireless drivers through additional drivers and rebooted, but it still doesn't see any wireless networks Did something change in 11.10 that makes the wireless card not work anymore?   I'm having problems connecting my WIFI in Ubuntu 13.04 . So I was wondering if filling in the data manually ie: the IPv4, IPv6, the SSID and BSSID info etc. I did try this before but maybe I put in the wrong data or maybe not enough.   I add the hotspot the regular way. Yet it doesn't show up as available when I try to connect to it using my other Ubuntu laptop. And nothing can connect to it. Yesterday, I successfully made it work for 5 minutes and then it stopped without me changing any configuration. I've already tryed resetting the DNS. Edit: I've updated my Broadcom 802.11b/g driver to a generic but more recent version. I've also repaired the WMI, now the advanced tab of my primary connection is available and the hand meaning the connection is shared appeared. But the computers still connect the wrong way around. (Windows to ubuntu instead of ubuntu to windows) Reinstalled SP3...
