  • Determining difference in timestamps for two values in the same MySQL table

    - by JayRizzo03
    I am relatively new to programming in PHP, so I apologize if this is a rather simple question. I have a MySQL database table called MachineReports that contains the following values: ReportNum(primary key, auto increment), MachineID and Timestamp Here is some example data: |ReportNum | MachineID | Timestamp | |1 | AD3203 | 2012-11-18 06:32:28| |2 | AD3203 | 2012-11-19 04:00:15| |3 | BC4300 | 2012-11-19 04:00:15| What I am attempting to do is find the difference in timestamps in seconds for each machine ID by iterating over each row set. I am getting stuck on the best way to do this, however. Here is the code I've written so far: <?php include '../dbconnect/dbconnect.php'; $machineID=[]; //Get a list of all MachineIDs in the database foreach($dbh->query('SELECT DISTINCT(MachineID) FROM MachineReports') as $row) { array_push($machineID, $row[0]); } for($i=0;$i<count($machineID);$i++){ foreach($dbh->query("SELECT MachineID FROM MachineReports WHERE MachineID='$machineID[$i]' ORDER BY MachineID") as $row) { //code to associate each machineID with two time stamps goes here } } ? This code just lists out the contents of the table row by row. My ultimate goal is to find the difference in timestamps for a certain MachineID. One of the things I've considered is using a multidimensional array in php - using the $machineID as the key and then storing the timestamp inside the array the key points to. However, I'm uncertain how to do that since my query parses row by row. I have quite a few questions. 1) Is this the most efficient way to be doing this? I suspect my database table design may not be the best. 2)What would be the best way to determine the difference in timestamps for a certain machineID? Even just a pointer to a topic that would prompt me to think about this in a different way would be helpful - I'm not afraid to do research. Thanks!

  • I am trying to access the individual bytes in a floating point number and I am getting unexpected results

    - by oweinh
    So I have this so far: #include <iostream> #include <string> #include <typeinfo> using namespace std; int main () { float f = 3.45; // just an example fp# char* ptr = (char*)&f; // a character pointer to the first byte of the fp#? cout << int(ptr[0]) << endl; // these lines are just to see if I get what I cout << int(ptr[1]) << endl; // am looking for... I want ints that I can cout << int(ptr[2]) << endl; // otherwise manipulate. cout << int(ptr[3]) << endl; } the result is: -51 -52 92 64 so obviously -51 and -52 are not in the byte range that I would expect for a char... I have taken information from similar questions to arrive at this code and from all discussions, a conversion from char to int is straightforward. So why negative values? I am trying to look at a four-byte number, therefore I would expect 4 integers, each in the range 0-255. I am using Codeblocks 13.12 with gcc 4.8.1 with option -std=C++11 on a Windows 8.1 device.

  • Another C++ question, delete not working?

    - by kyeana
    New to c++, and am having a problem with delete and destructor (I am sure i am making a stupid mistake here, but haven't been able to figure it out as of yet). When i step through into the destructor, and attepmt to call delete on a pointer, the message shows up "Cannot access memory at address some address." The relevant code is: /* * Removes the front item of the linked list and returns the value stored * in that node. * * TODO - Throws an exception if the list is empty */ std::string LinkedList::RemoveFront() { LinkedListNode *n = pHead->GetNext(); // the node we are removing std::string rtnData = n->GetData(); // the data to return // un-hook the node from the linked list pHead->SetNext(n->GetNext()); n->GetNext()->SetPrev(pHead); // delete the node delete n; n=0; size--; return rtnData; } and /* * Destructor for a linked node. * * Deletes all the dynamically allocated memory, and sets those pointers to 0. */ LinkedListNode::~LinkedListNode() { delete pNext; // This is where the error pops up delete pPrev; pNext=0; pPrev=0; }

  • What encoding does c32rtomb convert to?

    - by R. Martinho Fernandes
    The functions c32rtomb and mbrtoc32 from <cuchar>/<uchar.h> are described in the C Unicode TR (draft) as performing conversions between UTF-321 and "multibyte characters". (...) If s is not a null pointer, the c32rtomb function determines the number of bytes needed to represent the multibyte character that corresponds to the wide character given by c32 (including any shift sequences), and stores the multibyte character representation in the array whose first element is pointed to by s. (...) What is this "multibyte character representation"? I'm actually interested in the behaviour of the following program: #include <cassert> #include <cuchar> #include <string> int main() { std::u32string u32 = U"this is a wide string"; std::string narrow = "this is a wide string"; std::string converted(1000, '\0'); char* ptr = &converted[0]; std::mbstate_t state {}; for(auto u : u32) { ptr += std::c32rtomb(ptr, u, &state); } converted.resize(ptr - &converted[0]); assert(converted == narrow); } Is the assertion in it guaranteed to hold1? 1 Working under the assumption that __STDC_UTF_32__ is defined.

  • glTexImage2D + byte[]

    - by miniMe
    How can I upload pixels from a simple byte array to an OpenGl texture ? I'm using glTexImage2D and all I get is a white rectangle instead of a pixelated texture. The 9th parameter (32-bit pointer to the pixel data) is IMO the problem. I tried lots of parameter types there (byte, ref byte, byte[], ref byte[], int & IntPtr + Marshall, out byte, out byte[], byte*). glGetError() always returns GL_NO_ERROR. There must be something I'm doing wrong because it's never some gibberish pixels. It's always white. glGenTextures works correct. The first id has the value 1 like always in OpenGL. And I draw colored lines without any problem. So something is wrong with my texturing. I'm in control of the DllImport. So I can change the parameter types if necessary. GL.glBindTexture(GL.GL_TEXTURE_2D, id); int w = 4; int h = 4; byte[] bytes = new byte[w * h * 4]; for (int i = 0; i < bytes.Length; i++) bytes[i] = (byte)Utils.random(256); GL.glTexImage2D(GL.GL_TEXTURE_2D, 0, GL.GL_RGBA, w, h, 0, GL.GL_RGBA, GL.GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE, bytes); [DllImport(GL_LIBRARY)] public static extern void glTexImage2D(uint what, int level, int internalFormat, int width, int height, int border, int format, int type, byte[] bytes);

  • Returning a dynamically created array from function

    - by informer2000
    I'm trying to create a function that would dynamically allocate an array, sets the values of the elements, and returns the size of the array. The array variable is a pointer that is declared outside the function and passed as a parameter. Here is the code: #include <cstdlib> #include <iostream> using namespace std; int doArray(int *arr) { int sz = 10; arr = (int*) malloc(sizeof(int) * sz); for (int i=0; i<sz; i++) { arr[i] = i * 5; } return sz; } int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { int *arr = NULL; int size = doArray(arr); for (int i=0; i<size; i++) { cout << arr[i] << endl; } return 0; } For some reason, the program terminates on the first iteration of the for loop in main()! Am I doing something wrong?

  • JS best practice for member functions

    - by MickMalone1983
    I'm writing a little mobile games library, and I'm not sure the best practice for declaring member functions of instantiated function objects. For instance, I might create a simple object with one property, and a method to print it: function Foo(id){ this.id = id; this.print = function(){ console.log(this.id); }; }; However, a function which does not need access to 'private' members of the function does not need to be declared in the function at all. I could equally have written: function print(){ console.log(this.id); }; function Foo(id){ this.id = id; this.print = print; }; When the function is invoked through an instance of Foo, the instance becomes the context for this, so the output is the same in either case. I'm not entirely sure how memory is allocated with JS, and I can't find anything that I can understand about something this specific, but it seems to me that with the first example all members of Foo, including the print function, are duplicated each time it is instantiated - but with the second, it just gets a pointer to one, pre-declared function, which would save any more memory having to be allocated as more instances of Foo are created. Am I correct, and if I am, is there any memory/performance benefit to doing this?

  • Looking for definitive answer to accessing a network drive/NAS/SMB drive via Windows 7 HOME and Windows 7 Professional. Is it possible and how?

    - by Rob
    I want to be able to access my Lacie 2Big network drive in Windows 7 Explorer. I have a machine with Windows 7 Home and one with Windows 7 Professional. Neither Windows 7, home or pro, can access the drive. The Windows 7 Home machine displays the drive in its Explorer, with the capacity, but on clicking the icon, I get another window, blank with the busy pointer which does not eventually stop. The drive is working perfectly. How do I know this? Because I can access it with no problems on my Apple Mac, Windows XP home and Ubuntu machines on the same network as the Windows 7 machines. Except for the Windows XP home machine that required Lacie ethernet agent program, the Mac and the Ubuntu machines needed no setup, the drive appeared like any other drive. So my 2 questions: Is it possible to access a network share drive, e.g. a NAS like Lacie 2big in Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 7 Professional. If so how? I read on Microsoft's own forums and elsewhere that network sharing drives, e.g. via SambaSMB is NOT possible on Windows 7 Home. Is this true? http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprovirt/thread/e08c3500-a722-4b44-b644-64f94f63c8e5/ This question is a more comprehensive re-write of my earlier question: Windows 7 / TCP/IP network share guide - looking for to resolve failure to mount lacie network drive but works on XP,Linux,Mac. ...where I haven't received a solving answer, and I have tried to find a solution myself. Lacie themselves haven't offered a definitive solving answer either, but I suspect it's not just their drives but SMB/network share/NAS in general... This is utterly pathetic that Windows 7 home cannot access something as simple as a network drive, especially given that Windows XP home can. My research so far: Apparently it is possible on Windows 7 Professional, via the Local Security Policy, only on Windows 7 Professional, not Windows 7 Home: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/7357-local-security-policy-editor-open.html http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-security/accessing-local-security-policy-in-windows-7-home/0c8300d0-1d23-4de0-9b37-935c01a7d17a http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprosecurity/thread/14fc5037-3386-4973-b5d8-2167272ff5ad/ http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/75-63-windows-samba-issue Another solution offered is editing the registry, doesn't look promising to me, fiddly and not guaranteed, hard to produce a complete solution I think, given that everyone's registry can vary. • openstack, bridging, netfilter and dnat

    - by Craig Sanders
    In a recent upgrade (from Openstack Diablo on Ubuntu Lucid to Openstack Essex on Ubuntu Precise), we found that DNS packets were frequently (almost always) dropped on the bridge interface (br100). For our compute-node hosts, that's a Mellanox MT26428 using the mlx4_en driver module. We've found two workarounds for this: Use an old lucid kernel (e.g. 2.6.32-41-generic). This causes other problems, in particular the lack of cgroups and the old version of the kvm and kvm_amd modules (we suspect the kvm module version is the source of a bug we're seeing where occasionally a VM will use 100% CPU). We've been running with this for the last few months, but can't stay here forever. With the newer Ubuntu Precise kernels (3.2.x), we've found that if we use sysctl to disable netfilter on bridge (see sysctl settings below) that DNS started working perfectly again. We thought this was the solution to our problem until we realised that turning off netfilter on the bridge interface will, of course, mean that the DNAT rule to redirect VM requests for the nova-api-metadata server (i.e. redirect packets destined for 169.254.169.254:80 to compute-node's-IP:8775) will be completely bypassed. Long-story short: with 3.x kernels, we can have reliable networking and broken metadata service or we can have broken networking and a metadata service that would work fine if there were any VMs to service. We haven't yet found a way to have both. Anyone seen this problem or anything like it before? got a fix? or a pointer in the right direction? Our suspicion is that it's specific to the Mellanox driver, but we're not sure of that (we've tried several different versions of the mlx4_en driver, starting with the version built-in to the 3.2.x kernels all the way up to the latest 1.5.8.3 driver from the mellanox web site. The mlx4_en driver in the 3.5.x kernel from Quantal doesn't work at all) BTW, our compute nodes have supermicro H8DGT motherboards with built-in mellanox NIC: 02:00.0 InfiniBand: Mellanox Technologies MT26428 [ConnectX VPI PCIe 2.0 5GT/s - IB QDR / 10GigE] (rev b0) we're not using the other two NICs in the system, only the Mellanox and the IPMI card are connected. Bridge netfilter sysctl settings: net.bridge.bridge-nf-call-arptables = 0 net.bridge.bridge-nf-call-iptables = 0 net.bridge.bridge-nf-call-ip6tables = 0 Since discovering this bridge-nf sysctl workaround, we've found a few pages on the net recommending exactly this (including Openstack's latest network troubleshooting page and a launchpad bug report that linked to this blog-post that has a great description of the problem and the solution)....it's easier to find stuff when you know what to search for :), but we haven't found anything on the DNAT issue that it causes.

  • Moving windows-2003 hdd into virtual machine - with HDD shrink

    - by jm666
    Before you vote to close as exact duplicate, please read the full question. I was already read: Can I make a virtual machine out of a Windows XP physical machine? Disk2vhd,convert my PC to Hyper-V Virtual Machine Creating a Windows Virtual PC image from a Physical machine physical machine to virtual machine and place into VirtualBox BSOD trying to migrate Windows XP from a physical to a virtual machine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical-to-Virtual and all other similiar questions here and several external sites too Unfortunately, don't find answer for my problem. I have an physical machine with 500GB HDD, on what is installed old Windows-2003 server with one server application. The application is like the windows itself, too old, no support for it today, haven't installation media and so on.. ;( On the HDD it is used only approx. 100MB (maybe less when will delete all unnecessary files). Want convert the the machine into the VirtualBox, and the VirtualBox should run on the same machine. Is possible to do this with the next steps? I can attach another HDD (via USB or internally) Boot an live Linux from CD, mount HDDs Run "something" on the Linux (the above wikipedia article have many pointer for the SW) for the conversion and store the image on the USB HDD - unfortunately, many of tools uses some specialty what exists in Windows-XP and above. No informations about Windows-2003 server, so what is an working solution for Windows-2003? try boot the virtual image with VirtualBox when it will run ok, remove the old installation, install Linux on the old 500GB hdd, copy the image and run.. The above should works (i hope), but the problems: i currently have only 320GB external USB hdd. (ofc, i can remove it from a box and enter it as internal HDD too) so, for the conversion I looking for the on the fly HDD shrink, so while moving the physical 500GB HDD need shrink it into smaller HDD - as i told above, only 100MB is used Exists something for this? (free) - or the only way is buying and larger 1TB hdd and using it for the conversion? Another question are: is anybody have real experience with windows-2003 conversion into VirtualBox? Looking for an answer from someone who really doing it and can figure out real pitfalls. (googling can do myself). exists here better approach for the solution?

  • Is there a way to permanently arrange 2 displays under XP?

    - by rumtscho
    When I am home or on a business trip, or on a meeting, I use my laptop in the usual way. When I get to work, I put it on the docking station and boot it with the lid closed. The image appears on the two displays connected to the docking station. On the left, there is an old monitor connected over VGA, on the right, a big widescreen connected over DVI. Obviously, the videocard seems to think that the DVI is the primary output, and the VGA the secondary one. Thus Windows always displays the widescreen on the left and the old FSC monitor on the right. So when I want to move the mouse pointer from the (physically) left display to the (physically) right display, I have to move it from right to left, which is a usability nightmare. Of course, I can just drag one display over the other one in the display properties, and then everything is as it should be. The catch: Windows remembers this only as long as it has the two displays. Every time it runs on the laptop display, it forgets the setting. Physically switching the monitors isn't an option, for ergonomical reasons. I prefer to run the more important applications on the bigger screen with the better colourspace, and the shape of my desk forces me to sit off-center, so the more important applications should be shown on the right display. Just switching the video ports doesn't help either. When I connect the big monitor over VGA, image quality deteriorates visibly. So what I do now is: every time I bring the laptop to my desk, I boot it. I wait the whole 7 minutes of XP booting, syncing network drives, etc. Then I fire up the display properties, switch to the last tab, drag the widescreen display to the right, and close. Only then can I start working. Does someone have a better idea? The laptop is a Dell Latitude 630 with Windows XP SP 3. It has an nVidia graphics card (not an onboard chip).

  • Blank displays after inactivity, mouse cursor not showing up

    - by Mike Christiansen
    I have a Windows 7 Enterprise x86 machine that is exhibiting some strange problems. After some inactivity (it varies how long it takes), when I come back to my computer, both of my monitors are black. The monitors are on, with a black display. Moving the mouse and pressing keys on the keyboard do not work. This happens at least once a day. When I first encountered the issue, I performed a hard shutdown and restarted the computer. About 10% of the time when I did this, the resolutions on my monitors were messed up. The native resolution on the primary monitor is 1600x900, and the native on my secondary is 1440x900. None of the widescreen resolutions would be present in the display properties. I had 800x600, 1024x768, and 1280x1024. As a workaround to this issue, I've found that if I plug in my secondary monitor as the primary monitor, and leave the secondary unplugged, then Windows will start in 1024x768 on the secondary. Then, I can use Windows 7's "Detect" feature and it finds the 1440x900 resolution, and sets it. Then I have to connect the primary monitor to the secondary port and set it as the primary. Then I can switch the two cables, putting the primary into the primary, the secondary into the secondary. Then use the "Detect" feature again, and it finds the correct resolutions. Some time after performing the above, I discovered that when the screens were blanked, I could simply press "Control+Alt+Delete", type in my password, and everything comes up fine - except my mouse cursor. All applications and features work as intended, except there is no mouse cursor (the mouse actually works though...). I have the "Show location of pointer when I press CTRL key" option selected, so I can press CTRL and use my mouse as normal - but I have no actual cursor. When the computer is in this state, UAC is also not functional. Whenever a UAC prompt appears, the screens go black (the original symptoms) and I have to press Escape to exit UAC. Because of the above symptoms (the UAC black screen thing, etc) I beleive winlogon.exe may be the culprit. However, I have no idea how to fix it. I am unable to restart winlogon.exe due to the problems I am having with winlogon.exe (the UAC black screen) Looking for any ideas.... More information Windows 7 x86 Enterprise Domain environment (I have a secondary account with administrator rights) Dell Optiplex 960 Cannot perform "optional" windows updates due to an activation issue (I am testing a windows 7 image, and an activation infrastructure has not been created yet. However, this issue was happening before I was unable to perform windows update, and windows was up to date at the time Updated video card driver (as an attempt to fixing the resolution issue) Disabled all power saving options Please let me know what else you need to help me solve this issue! Thanks in advance, Mike

  • DNS settings for resolving Host name to IP not working?

    - by Hasas Ali Khan
    I want to access my IIS hosted application over LAN. First I installed a DNS server. The DNS configuration steps are: Go to DNS Manager - right click on System Name - click on configure a DNS Server. DNS Server wizard open -, click on next button - Select radio button "forward lookup zone" click on next button. In the second window. click on radio button "The server maintains the zone" and then click next. Give the zone name "example.com" Click on radio button, "Do Not allow dynamic updates". and then click next button. In the next window, click on radio button "No it should not forward query" and then click next button. Complete the configure a DNS server wizard and then click on finish button. After it is managing the DNS records: In DNS server wizard. open tree of forward lookup zone and right click on the new zone name "example.com" - properties and click on "Start of authority" and write values on text boxes serial number=1 primary server=systemname.domainname responsible person=hostmaster.domainname Click on server name, highlight domain name, click on edit button and enter IP address of the server where I host my application. Highlight new zone name and right click on it and click "New Host" option. In this window there are three text boxes: Name(user parent name if blank)=scoring Fully Qualified Domain Name=scoring.example.com IP Address= My IP Address and check on "Create associated pointer(PTR) record" and click on "Add Host" Host button and then click done button. I have host header for my application is "scoring" on port 80 and its working fine on server my application setting are I have change its, Advance setting --> Application Pool Identity --> Local System application can access on server with host name "scoring" but it can not access on machines on LAN. When I change LAN machine host file that is under, C:/windows/system32/driver/etc/host and edit it and enter host name with hosted machine IP like this: scoring 192.168.1.20 By making these changes I can run the application over LAN machines as I mentioned above DNS setting by which I can run App over LAN with out editing the client's host file. What mistake am I doing in this configuration?

  • Why can host and nslookup resolve a name but dig cannot?

    - by musashiXXX
    Can anyone tell me why this is happening? I can resolve a hostname using host and/or nslookup but forward lookups do not work with dig; reverse lookups do: musashixxx@box:~$ host someserver someserver.somenet.internal has address 192.168.0.252 musashixxx@box:~$ host 192.168.0.252 252.0.168.192.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer someserver.somenet.internal. musashixxx@box:~$ nslookup someserver Server: 192.168.0.253 Address: 192.168.0.253#53 Name: someserver.somenet.internal Address: 192.168.0.252 musashixxx@box:~$ nslookup 192.168.0.252 Server: 192.168.0.253 Address: 192.168.0.253#53 252.0.168.192.in-addr.arpa name = someserver.somenet.internal. musashixxx@box:~$ dig someserver ; <<>> DiG 9.8.1-P1 <<>> someserver ;; global options: +cmd ;; Got answer: ;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: SERVFAIL, id: 55306 ;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 0, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 0 ;; QUESTION SECTION: ;someserver. • Ubuntu getting wrong hostname from DHCP

    - by sam
    When provisioning new Ubuntu Precise (12.04) servers, the hostname they're getting seems to be generated from the DNS search path, not a reverse lookup on the hostname. Take the following configuration BIND is configured with the hostname, and reverse name Normal zone $TTL 600 $ORIGIN srv.local.net. @ IN SOA ns0.local.net. hostmaster.local.net. ( 2014082101 10800 3600 604800 600 ) @ IN NS ns0.local.net. @ IN MX 5 mail.local.net. my-new-server IN A 10.32.2.30 And reverse @ IN SOA ns0.local.net. hostmaster.local.net. ( 2014082101 10800 3600 604800 600 ) @ IN NS ns0.local.net. $ORIGIN 32.10.in-addr.arpa. 30.2 IN PTR my-new-server.srv.local.net. Then DHCPD is configured to hand out static leases based on mac addresses like so subnet 10.32.2.0 netmask 255.255.254.0 { option subnet-mask 255.255.254.0; option routers 10.32.2.1; option domain-name-servers 10.32.2.1; option domain-name "util.of1.local.net of1.local.net srv.local.net"; site-option-space "pxelinux"; option pxelinux.magic f1:00:74:7e; if exists dhcp-parameter-request-list { option dhcp-parameter-request-list = concat(option dhcp-parameter-request-list,d0,d1,d2,d3); } group { option pxelinux.configfile "pxelinux.cfg/pxeboot"; host my-new-server { fixed-address my-new-server.srv.local.net; hardware ethernet aa:aa:aa:bb:bb:bb; } } } So the hostname should be my-new-server.srv.local.net, however when building a Ubuntu 12.04 node, the hostname ends up as my-new-server.util.of1.local.net When building Lucid (10.04) hosts, the hostname will be correct, it's only on Precise/12.04 nodes we have the problem. Doing a normal and reverse lookup on the host and IP returns the correct result Sams-MacBook-Pro:~ sam$ host my-new-server my-new-server.srv.local.net has address 10.32.2.30 Sams-MacBook-Pro:~ sam$ host my-new-server.srv.local.net my-new-server.srv.local.net has address 10.32.2.30 Sams-MacBook-Pro:~ sam$ host 10.32.2.30 30.2.32.10.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer my-new-server.srv.local.net. The contents of the hosts file is incorrect too 127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.1.1 my-new-server.util.of1.local.net of1.local.net srv.local.net my-new-server So it looks like when it creates the hosts file, it puts the entire contents of the DNS search path into the local address so the FQDN according to the server is the short hostname as defined, then the first domain in the search path. Is there a way to get around this behaviour, or fix this so it gets the hostname correctly? It's picking up the first part of the hostname, then the rest is wrong.

  • HTTPS in sub domain redirects to main domain

    - by Amitabh
    We recently bought a wildcard certificate and installed it for a domain. It works fine for the main domain but seems to not work at all for any sub domains. Whats happening is we can access the sub domains fine on HTTP, but whenever we try HTTPS for the same sub domain url we are redirected back to the main domain. So if I put up a test folder "httpstest" in a sub domain with a index.html file in it, the following happens mysubdomain.mywebsite.com/httpstest/index.html or mysubdomain.mywebsite.com/httpstest/ works perfectly fine with http:// but mysubdomain.mywebsite.com/httpstest/ or mysubdomain.mywebsite.com/httpstest/index.html does not work with https:// and redirects to the main domain.Any help on this is greatly appreciated. The site is not the main site used for setting up the VPS. It was added from WHM. Environment: We are on a Linux VPS. • Local dns for testing websites using mobile devices

    - by Morpheu5
    Hi. I have no idea where to start from so sorry in advance if this topic has already been discussed. I usually develop web sites using my laptop as a development server, and recently I needed to test a web site using various mobile devices that can connect via wifi. Having no real AP, I set up a ad-hoc network using my laptop's wireless card and the devices can correctly browse the Internet and access the laptop's web server. The setup is as follows: subnet: 192.168.1.0/24 gateway to the Internet (wired adsl router/modem): 192.168.1.1 laptop: 192.168.1.64 (eth0, wired if connected to the gateway) and 192.168.1.32 (eth1, wifi if somewhat bridged to eth0) mobile devices (same for all, I only use one of them at any time for simplicity): 192.168.1.11 with default gw 192.168.1.1 Now, if I open either 192.168.1.32 or 192.168.1.64 from the mobile devices, I correctly get the default host of my Apache configuration. However I usually work with virtual hosts for many practical reasons, one of which being Drupal's peculiar implementation of multi-sites. For those who don't know how this works, Drupal takes the request's hostname and searches into its sites/ subdirectories for an appropriate configuration file. So, for example, suppose I request www.example.com, then Drupal would search for a config file in the following directories: sites/www.example.com/ sites/example.com/ sites/com/ sites/default/ So I decided to adopt the following style of virtual hosts: if the website I'm working on will be accessible using www.example.com I set up a sites/www.example.com/ directory and create a virtual host for local.www.example.com so Drupal have no trouble finding it. I've been told this is suboptimal from a dns point of view since I'd have to create an authoritative entry for example.com and turn Bind on only when I'm supposed to access the local copy, which is weird. However, if this is the only path I can follow, I still have some problems with Bind's configuration, as I couldn't find any guide that tells me in a clear, noob-friendly way, how to set up such an entry. On the other hand, I was wondering if I could set up an authoritative entry for local, so I could access www.example.com.local and tell in some way (which I don't even know if this is possible) Apache to put www.example.com instead of www.example.com.local in the relevant environment variable. Anyway, I have a last problem, sort of: when I launch Bind in debug mode with high verbosity, and make 192.168.1.32 as the primary dns for the devices, the output doesn't say anything about requests being made from the devices to Bind, so I'm not even sure it comes into play. As you can see, I'm a complete noob at these matters, but I'm eager to learn, so any help/pointer will be appreciated.

  • How to Create Auto Playlists in Windows Media Player 12

    - by DigitalGeekery
    Are you getting tired of the same old playlists in Windows Media Player? Today we’ll show you how to create dynamic auto playlists based on criteria you choose in WMP 12 in Windows 7. Auto Playlists In Library view, click on Create playlist dropdown arrow and select Create auto playlist. On the New Auto Playlist window type in a name for the playlist in the text box. Now we need to choose our criteria by which to filter your playlist. Select Click here to add criteria. For our example, we will create a playlist of songs that were added to the library in the last week from the Alternative genre. So, we will first select Date Added from the dropdown list. Many criteria will have addition options to configure. In the example below you will see that we have a few options to fine tune.   We will filter all the songs added to the library in the last 7 days. We will select Is After from the first dropdown list. Then select Last 7 Days from the second dropdown list. You can add multiple criteria to further filter your playlist. If you can’t find the criteria you are looking for, select “More” at the bottom of the dropdown list.   This will pull up a filter window with all the criteria. Select a filter and then click OK when finished.   From the Genre dropdown, we will select Alternative. If you’d like to add Pictures, Videos, or TV Shows to your auto playlists you can do so by selecting them from the dropdown list under And also include. You will then be able to select criteria for your pictures, videos, or TV shows from the dropdown list.   Finally, you can also add restrictions to your music such as the number of items, duration, or total size. We will limit the duration of our playlist to one hour by selecting Limit Total Duration To… Then type in 1 hour…Click OK.   Our library is automatically filtered and a playlist is created based on the criteria we selected. When additional songs are added to the Windows Media Player library, any of new songs that fit the criteria will automatically be added to the New Songs playlist. You can also save a copy of an auto playlist as a regular playlist. Switch to Playlists view by clicking Playlists from either the top menu or the navigation bar. Select the Play tab and then click Clear list to remove any tracks from the list pane.   Right-click on the playlist you want to save, select Add to, and then Play list. The songs from your auto playlist will appear as an Unsaved list on the list pane. Click Save list. Type in a name for your playlist. Your auto playlist will continue to change as you add or remove items from your Media Player library that meet the criteria you established. The new saved playlist we just created will stay as it is currently. Editing a Auto playlist is easy. Right-click on the playlist and select Edit. Now you are ready to enjoy your playlist. Conclusion Auto playlists are great way to keep your playlists fresh in Windows Media Player 12. Users can get creative and experiment with the wide variety of criteria to customize their listening experience. • Java ME SDK 3.2 is now live

    - by SungmoonCho
    Hi everyone, It has been a while since we released the last version. We have been very busy integrating new features and making lots of usability improvements into this new version. Datasheet is available here. Please visit Java ME SDK 3.2 download page to get the latest and best version yet! Some of the new features in this version are described below. Embedded Application SupportOracle Java ME SDK 3.2 now supports the new Oracle® Java ME Embedded. This includes support for JSR 228, the Information Module Profile-Next Generation API (IMP-NG). You can test and debug applications either on the built-in device emulators or on your device. Memory MonitorThe Memory Monitor shows memory use as an application runs. It displays a dynamic detailed listing of the memory usage per object in table form, and a graphical representation of the memory use over time. Eclipse IDE supportOracle Java ME SDK 3.2 now officially supports Eclipse IDE. Once you install the Java ME SDK plugins on Eclipse, you can start developing, debugging, and profiling your mobile or embedded application. Skin CreatorWith the Custom Device Skin Creator, you can create your own skins. The appearance of the custom skins is generic, but the functionality can be tailored to your own specifications.  Here are the release highlights. Implementation and support for the new Oracle® Java Wireless Client 3.2 runtime and the Oracle® Java ME Embedded runtime. The AMS in the CLDC emulators has a new look and new functionality (Install Application, Manage Certificate Authorities and Output Console). Support for JSR 228, the Information Module Profile-Next Generation API (IMP-NG). The IMP-NG platform is implemented as a subset of CLDC. Support includes: A new emulator for headless devices. Javadocs for the following Oracle APIs: Device Access API, Logging API, AMS API, and AccessPoint API. New demos for IMP-NG features can be run on the emulator or on a real device running the Oracle® Java ME Embedded runtime. New Custom Device Skin Creator. This tool provides a way to create and manage custom emulator skins. The skin appearance is generic, but the functionality, such as the JSRs supported or the device properties, are up to you. This utility only supported in NetBeans. Eclipse plugin for CLDC/MIDP. For the first time Oracle Java ME SDK is available as an Eclipse plugin. The Eclipse version does not support CDC, the Memory Monitor, and the Custom Device Skin Creator in this release. All Java ME tools are implemented as NetBeans plugins. As of the plugin integrates Java ME utilities into the standard NetBeans menus. Tools > Java ME menu is the place to launch Java ME utilities, including the new Skin Creator. Profile > Java ME is the place to work with the Network Monitor and the Memory Monitor. Use the standard NetBeans tools for debugging. Profiling, Network monitoring, and Memory monitoring are integrated with the NetBeans profiling tools. New network monitoring protocols are supported in this release: WMA, SIP, Bluetooth and OBEX, SATSA APDU and JCRMI, and server sockets. Java ME SDK Update Center. Oracle Java ME SDK can be updated or extended by new components. The Update Center can download, install, and uninstall plugins specific to the Java ME SDK. A plugin consists of runtime components and skins. Bug fixes and enhancements. This version comes with a few known problems. All of them have workarounds, so I hope you don't get stuck in these issues when you are using the product. It you cannot watch static variables during an Eclipse debugging session, and sometimes the Variable view cannot show data. In the source code, move the mouse over the required variable to inspect the variable value. A real device shown in the Device Selector is deleted from the Device Manager, yet it still appears. Kill the device manager in the system tray, and relaunch it. Then you will see the device removed from the list. On-device profiling does not work on a device. CPU profiling, networking monitoring, and memory monitoring do not work on the device, since the device runtime does not yet support it. Please do the profiling with your emulator first, and then test your application on the device. In the Device Selector, using Clean Database on real external device causes a null pointer exception. External devices do not have a database recognized by the SDK, so you can disregard this exception message. Suspending the Emulator during a Memory Monitor session hangs the emulator. Do not use the Suspend option (F5) while the Memory Monitor is running. If the emulator is hung, open the Windows task manager and stop the emulator process (javaw). To switch to another application while the Memory Monitor is running, choose Application > AMS Home (F4), and select a different application. Please let us know how we can improve it even better, by sending us your feedback. -Java ME SDK Team

  • SQL SERVER – SSMS: Memory Usage By Memory Optimized Objects Report

    - by Pinal Dave
    At conferences and at speaking engagements at the local UG, there is one question that keeps on coming which I wish were never asked. The question around, “Why is SQL Server using up all the memory and not releasing even when idle?” Well, the answer can be long and with the release of SQL Server 2014, this got even more complicated. This release of SQL Server 2014 has the option of introducing In-Memory OLTP which is completely new concept and our dependency on memory has increased multifold. In reality, nothing much changes but we have memory optimized objects (Tables and Stored Procedures) additional which are residing completely in memory and improving performance. As a DBA, it is humanly impossible to get a hang of all the innovations and the new features introduced in the next version. So today’s blog is around the report added to SSMS which gives a high level view of this new feature addition. This reports is available only from SQL Server 2014 onwards because the feature was introduced in SQL Server 2014. Earlier versions of SQL Server Management Studio would not show the report in the list. If we try to launch the report on the database which is not having In-Memory File group defined, then we would see the message in report. To demonstrate, I have created new fresh database called MemoryOptimizedDB with no special file group. Here is the query used to identify whether a database has memory-optimized file group or not. SELECT TOP(1) 1 FROM sys.filegroups FG WHERE FG.[type] = 'FX' Once we add filegroup using below command, we would see different version of report. USE [master] GO ALTER DATABASE [MemoryOptimizedDB] ADD FILEGROUP [IMO_FG] CONTAINS MEMORY_OPTIMIZED_DATA GO The report is still empty because we have not defined any Memory Optimized table in the database.  Total allocated size is shown as 0 MB. Now, let’s add the folder location into the filegroup and also created few in-memory tables. We have used the nomenclature of IMO to denote “InMemory Optimized” objects. USE [master] GO ALTER DATABASE [MemoryOptimizedDB] ADD FILE ( NAME = N'MemoryOptimizedDB_IMO', FILENAME = N'E:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.SQL2014\MSSQL\DATA\MemoryOptimizedDB_IMO') TO FILEGROUP [IMO_FG] GO You may have to change the path based on your SQL Server configuration. Below is the script to create the table. USE MemoryOptimizedDB GO --Drop table if it already exists. IF OBJECT_ID('dbo.SQLAuthority','U') IS NOT NULL DROP TABLE dbo.SQLAuthority GO CREATE TABLE dbo.SQLAuthority ( ID INT IDENTITY NOT NULL, Name CHAR(500)  COLLATE Latin1_General_100_BIN2 NOT NULL DEFAULT 'Pinal', CONSTRAINT PK_SQLAuthority_ID PRIMARY KEY NONCLUSTERED (ID), INDEX hash_index_sample_memoryoptimizedtable_c2 HASH (Name) WITH (BUCKET_COUNT = 131072) ) WITH (MEMORY_OPTIMIZED = ON, DURABILITY = SCHEMA_AND_DATA) GO As soon as above script is executed, table and index both are created. If we run the report again, we would see something like below. Notice that table memory is zero but index is using memory. This is due to the fact that hash index needs memory to manage the buckets created. So even if table is empty, index would consume memory. More about the internals of how In-Memory indexes and tables work will be reserved for future posts. Now, use below script to populate the table with 10000 rows INSERT INTO SQLAuthority VALUES (DEFAULT) GO 10000 Here is the same report after inserting 1000 rows into our InMemory table.    There are total three sections in the whole report. Total Memory consumed by In-Memory Objects Pie chart showing memory distribution based on type of consumer – table, index and system. Details of memory usage by each table. The information about all three is taken from one single DMV, sys.dm_db_xtp_table_memory_stats This DMV contains memory usage statistics for both user and system In-Memory tables. If we query the DMV and look at data, we can easily notice that the system tables have negative object IDs.  So, to look at user table memory usage, below is the over-simplified version of query. USE MemoryOptimizedDB GO SELECT OBJECT_NAME(OBJECT_ID), * FROM sys.dm_db_xtp_table_memory_stats WHERE OBJECT_ID > 0 GO This report would help DBA to identify which in-memory object taking lot of memory which can be used as a pointer for designing solution. I am sure in future we will discuss at lengths the whole concept of In-Memory tables in detail over this blog. To read more about In-Memory OLTP, have a look at In-Memory OLTP Series at Balmukund’s Blog. • Why does setting a geometry shader cause my sprites to vanish?

    - by ChaosDev
    My application has multiple screens with different tasks. Once I set a geometry shader to the device context for my custom terrain, it works and I get the desired results. But then when I get back to the main menu, all sprites and text disappear. These sprites don't dissappear when I use pixel and vertex shaders. The sprites are being drawn through D3D11, of course, with specified view and projection matrices as well an input layout, vertex, and pixel shader. I'm trying DeviceContext->ClearState() but it does not help. Any ideas? void gGeometry::DrawIndexedWithCustomEffect(gVertexShader*vs,gPixelShader* ps,gGeometryShader* gs=nullptr) { unsigned int offset = 0; auto context = mp_D3D->mp_Context; //set topology context->IASetPrimitiveTopology(m_Topology); //set input layout context->IASetInputLayout(mp_inputLayout); //set vertex and index buffers context->IASetVertexBuffers(0,1,&mp_VertexBuffer->mp_Buffer,&m_VertexStride,&offset); context->IASetIndexBuffer(mp_IndexBuffer->mp_Buffer,mp_IndexBuffer->m_DXGIFormat,0); //send constant buffers to shaders context->VSSetConstantBuffers(0,vs->m_CBufferCount,vs->m_CRawBuffers.data()); context->PSSetConstantBuffers(0,ps->m_CBufferCount,ps->m_CRawBuffers.data()); if(gs!=nullptr) { context->GSSetConstantBuffers(0,gs->m_CBufferCount,gs->m_CRawBuffers.data()); context->GSSetShader(gs->mp_D3DGeomShader,0,0);//after this call all sprites disappear } //set shaders context->VSSetShader( vs->mp_D3DVertexShader, 0, 0 ); context->PSSetShader( ps->mp_D3DPixelShader, 0, 0 ); //draw context->DrawIndexed(m_indexCount,0,0); } //sprites void gSpriteDrawer::Draw(gTexture2D* texture,const RECT& dest,const RECT& source, const Matrix& spriteMatrix,const float& rotation,Vector2d& position,const Vector2d& origin,const Color& color) { VertexPositionColorTexture* verticesPtr; D3D11_MAPPED_SUBRESOURCE mappedResource; unsigned int TriangleVertexStride = sizeof(VertexPositionColorTexture); unsigned int offset = 0; float halfWidth = ( float )dest.right / 2.0f; float halfHeight = ( float )dest.bottom / 2.0f; float z = 0.1f; int w = texture->Width(); int h = texture->Height(); float tu = (float)source.right/(w); float tv = (float)source.bottom/(h); float hu = (float)source.left/(w); float hv = (float)source.top/(h); Vector2d t0 = Vector2d( hu+tu, hv); Vector2d t1 = Vector2d( hu+tu, hv+tv); Vector2d t2 = Vector2d( hu, hv+tv); Vector2d t3 = Vector2d( hu, hv+tv); Vector2d t4 = Vector2d( hu, hv); Vector2d t5 = Vector2d( hu+tu, hv); float ex=(dest.right/2)+(origin.x); float ey=(dest.bottom/2)+(origin.y); Vector4d v4Color = Vector4d(color.r,color.g,color.b,color.a); VertexPositionColorTexture vertices[] = { { Vector3d( dest.right-ex, -ey, z),v4Color, t0}, { Vector3d( dest.right-ex, dest.bottom-ey , z),v4Color, t1}, { Vector3d( -ex, dest.bottom-ey , z),v4Color, t2}, { Vector3d( -ex, dest.bottom-ey , z),v4Color, t3}, { Vector3d( -ex, -ey , z),v4Color, t4}, { Vector3d( dest.right-ex, -ey , z),v4Color, t5}, }; auto mp_context = mp_D3D->mp_Context; // Lock the vertex buffer so it can be written to. mp_context->Map(mp_vertexBuffer, 0, D3D11_MAP_WRITE_DISCARD, 0, &mappedResource); // Get a pointer to the data in the vertex buffer. verticesPtr = (VertexPositionColorTexture*)mappedResource.pData; // Copy the data into the vertex buffer. memcpy(verticesPtr, (void*)vertices, (sizeof(VertexPositionColorTexture) * 6)); // Unlock the vertex buffer. mp_context->Unmap(mp_vertexBuffer, 0); //set vertex shader mp_context->IASetVertexBuffers( 0, 1, &mp_vertexBuffer, &TriangleVertexStride, &offset); //set texture mp_context->PSSetShaderResources( 0, 1, &texture->mp_SRV); //set matrix to shader mp_context->UpdateSubresource(mp_matrixBuffer, 0, 0, &spriteMatrix, 0, 0 ); mp_context->VSSetConstantBuffers( 0, 1, &mp_matrixBuffer); //draw sprite mp_context->Draw( 6, 0 ); }

  • Tuesday + 3 = Friday? C++ Programming Problem

    - by lampshade
    Looking at the main function, we can see that I've Hard Coded the "Monday" into my setDay public function. It is easy to grab a day of the week from the user using a c-string (as I did in setDay), but how would I ask the user to add n to the day that is set, "Monday" and come up with "Thursday"? It is hard because typdef enum { INVALID, MONDAY, TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY, FRIDAY, SATURDAY, SUNDAY} doesn't interpret 9 is 0 and/or 10 as 1. #include <iostream> using std::cout; using std::endl; class DayOfTheWeek //class is encapsulation of functions and members that manipulate the data. { public: DayOfTheWeek(); // Constructor virtual ~DayOfTheWeek(); // Destructor void setDay(const char * day); // Function to set the day void printDay() const; // Function to Print the day. const char * getDay() const; // Function to get the day. const char * plusOneDay(); // Next day function const char * minusOneDay(); // Previous day function const char * addDays(int addValue); // function that adds days based on parameter value private: char * day; // variable for the days of the week. }; DayOfTheWeek::DayOfTheWeek() : day(0) { // Usually I would allocate pointer member variables // Here in the construction of the Object } const char * DayOfTheWeek::getDay() const { return day; // we can get the day simply by returning it. } const char * DayOfTheWeek::minusOneDay() { if ( strcmp( day, "Monday" ) == 0) { cout << "The day before " << day << " is "; return "Sunday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Tuesday" ) == 0 ) { cout << "The day before " << day << " is "; return "Monday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Wednesday" ) == 0 ) { cout << "The day before " << day << " is "; return "Tuesday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Thursday" ) == 0 ) { cout << "The day before " << day << " is "; return "Wednesday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Friday" ) == 0 ) { cout << "The day before " << day << " is "; return "Thursday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Saturday" ) == 0 ) { cout << "The day before " << day << " is "; return "Friday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Sunday" ) == 0 ) { cout << "The day before " << day << " is "; return "Saturday"; } else { cout << "'" << day << "'"; return "is an invalid day of the week!"; } } const char * DayOfTheWeek::plusOneDay() { if ( strcmp( day, "Monday" ) == 0) { cout << "The day after " << day << " is "; return "Tuesday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Tuesday" ) == 0 ) { cout << "The day after " << day << " is "; return "Wednesday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Wednesday" ) == 0 ) { cout << "The day after " << day << " is "; return "Thursday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Thursday" ) == 0 ) { cout << "The day after " << day << " is "; return "Friday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Friday" ) == 0 ) { cout << "The day after " << day << " is "; return "Saturday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Saturday" ) == 0 ) { cout << "The day after " << day << " is "; return "Sunday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Sunday" ) == 0 ) { cout << "The day after " << day << " is "; return "Monday"; } else { cout << "'" << day << "'"; return " is an invalid day of the week!"; } } const char * DayOfTheWeek::addDays(int addValue) { if ( addValue < 0 ) { if ( strcmp( day, "Monday" ) == 0) { cout << day << " - " << -addValue << " = "; return "Friday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Tuesday" ) == 0 ) { cout << day << " - " << -addValue << " = "; return "Saturday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Wednesday" ) == 0 ) { cout << day << " - " << -addValue << " = "; return "Sunday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Thursday" ) == 0 ) { cout << day << " - " << -addValue << " = "; return "Monday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Friday" ) == 0 ) { cout << day << " - " << -addValue << " = "; return "Tuesday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Saturday" ) == 0 ) { cout << day << " - " << -addValue << " = "; return "Wednesday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Sunday" ) == 0 ) { cout << day << " - " << -addValue << " = "; return "Thursday"; } else { cout << "'" << day << "' "; return "is an invalid day of the week!
