  • Routing generated paths in Ruby on Rails

    - by True Soft
    I'm a beginner in ruby-on-rails and I spent my last hour trying to do the following thing: I have a ruby-on-rails application - the blog with posts and categories. I want to have another URL for the posts (I would like to have http://localhost:3000/news instead of http://localhost:3000/posts) First I tried to replace the controller and classes from Posts to News, but I gave up(because of the annoyng singular-plural thing). Then in my I replaced map.resources :posts (case 1) to map.resources :news, :controller => "posts" #case 2 or map.resources :posts, :as => 'news' #case 3 in routes.rb as I saw on some websites. It doesn't work either. How can I do this? EDIT: the output of rake routes is (only first lines): for case 1 and 3: posts GET /posts {:action=>"index", :controller=>"posts"} formatted_posts GET /posts.:format {:action=>"index", :controller=>"posts"} POST /posts {:action=>"create", :controller=>"posts"} POST /posts.:format {:action=>"create", :controller=>"posts"} new_post GET /posts/new {:action=>"new", :controller=>"posts"} formatted_new_post GET /posts/new.:format {:action=>"new", :controller=>"posts"} edit_post GET /posts/:id/edit {:action=>"edit", :controller=>"posts"} formatted_edit_post GET /posts/:id/edit.:format {:action=>"edit", :controller=>"posts"} post GET /posts/:id {:action=>"show", :controller=>"posts"} formatted_post GET /posts/:id.:format {:action=>"show", :controller=>"posts"} PUT /posts/:id {:action=>"update", :controller=>"posts"} PUT /posts/:id.:format {:action=>"update", :controller=>"posts"} DELETE /posts/:id {:action=>"destroy", :controller=>"posts"} DELETE /posts/:id.:format {:action=>"destroy", :controller=>"posts"} the output for case 2: news_index GET /news {:action=>"index", :controller=>"posts"} formatted_news_index GET /news.:format {:action=>"index", :controller=>"posts"} POST /news {:action=>"create", :controller=>"posts"} POST /news.:format {:action=>"create", :controller=>"posts"} new_news GET /news/new {:action=>"new", :controller=>"posts"} formatted_new_news GET /news/new.:format {:action=>"new", :controller=>"posts"} edit_news GET /news/:id/edit {:action=>"edit", :controller=>"posts"} formatted_edit_news GET /news/:id/edit.:format {:action=>"edit", :controller=>"posts"} news GET /news/:id {:action=>"show", :controller=>"posts"} formatted_news GET /news/:id.:format {:action=>"show", :controller=>"posts"} PUT /news/:id {:action=>"update", :controller=>"posts"} PUT /news/:id.:format {:action=>"update", :controller=>"posts"} DELETE /news/:id {:action=>"destroy", :controller=>"posts"} DELETE /news/:id.:format {:action=>"destroy", :controller=>"posts"} I have errors in case 2, because in my sourcecode I don't have edit_news, I have for example <%= link_to 'Edit', edit_post_path(post) %>

  • Use RedirectToAction in a JsonResult Action?

    - by CmdrTallen
Hi, using ASP.NET MVC 1.0 and I have a action that returns a JsonResult and I need to redirect another action that also returns a JsonResult action type. The problem is the RedirectToAction() returns a RedirectToRouteResult class and seems there is no way to convert that to JsonResult class ? This is the error I am getting; Error 124 Cannot implicitly convert type 'System.Web.Mvc.RedirectToRouteResult' to 'System.Web.Mvc.JsonResult'

  • Specify Action on sub-controller when using Html.RenderAction

    - by iammaz
I have a UserControl that I call with Html.RenderAction(...), so far so good.. Then I want to specify in the user control, which action should be used Html.BeginForm("DeleteComment", "Comments", new { Id = "frmDelete" }, FormMethod.Post);%> <%= Html.SubmitImage( "imgbtnDelete", "/image.png", new { ... })%> <% Html.EndForm(); %> And therein lies my problem; this calls the user control's controller/action. What I want to happen is to call the pages action first and then be able to specify what action to call on the user control's controller. Is this possible?? Thanks from an MVC noob

  • How do I use .htaccess RewriteRule to change underscores to dashes

    - by soopadoubled
I'm working on a site, and its CMS used to save new page urls using the underscore character as a word seperator. Despite the fact that Google now treats underscore as a word seperator, the SEO powers that be are demanding the site use dashes instead. This is very easy to do within the CMS, and I can of course change all existing URLs saved in the MySQL database that serves the CMS. My problem lies in writing a .htaccess rule that will 301 old style underscore seperated links to the new style hyphenated verstion. I had success using the answers to this Stack Overflow question on other sites, using: RewriteRule ^([^_]*)_([^_]*_.*) $1-$2 [N] RewriteRule ^([^_]*)_([^_]*)$ /$1-$2 [L,R=301] However this CMS site uses a lot of existing rules to produce clean URLs, and I can't get this working in conjunction with the existing rule set. .htaccess currently looks like this: Options FollowSymLinks # RewriteOptions MaxRedirects=50 RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.mydomain\.co\.uk$ [NC] RewriteRule (.*) http://www.mydomain.co.uk/$1 [R=301,L] #trailing slash enforcement RewriteBase / RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !# RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !(.*)/$ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.mydomain.co.uk/$1/ [L,R=301] RewriteRule ^test/([0-9]+)(/)?$ test_htaccess.php?year=$1 [nc] RewriteRule ^index(/)?$ index.php RewriteRule ^department/([^/]*)/([^/]*)/([^/]*)(/)?$ ecom/index.php?action=ecom.details&mode=$1&$2=$3 [nc] RewriteRule ^department/([^/]*)(/)?$ ecom/index.php?action=ecom.details&mode=$1 [nc] RewriteRule ^product/([^/]*)/([^/]*)/([^/]*)(/)?$ ecom/index.php?action=ecom.pdetails&mode=$1&$2=$3 [nc] RewriteRule ^product/([^/]*)(/)?$ ecom/index.php?action=ecom.pdetails&mode=$1 [nc] RewriteRule ^content/([^/]*)(/)?$ ecom/index.php?action=ecom.cdetails&mode=$1 [nc] RewriteRule ([^/]*)/action/([^/]*)/([^/]*)/([^/]*)/([^/]*)(/)?$ $1/index.php?action=$2&mode=$3&$4=$5 [nc] RewriteRule ([^/]*)/action/([^/]*)/([^/]*)(/)?$ $1/index.php?action=$2&mode=$3 [nc] RewriteRule ([^/]*)/action/([^/]*)(/)?$ $1/index.php?action=$2 [nc] RewriteRule ^eaction/([^/]*)/([^/]*)/([^/]*)/([^/]*)(/)?$ ecom/index.php?action=$1&mode=$2&$3=$4 [nc] RewriteRule ^eaction/([^/]*)/([^/]*)(/)?$ ecom/index.php?action=$1&mode=$2 [nc] RewriteRule ^action/([^/]*)/([^/]*)(/)?$ index.php?action=$1&mode=$2 [nc] RewriteRule ^sid/([^/]*)(/)?$ index.php?sid=$1 [nc] ## Error Handling ## #RewriteRule ^error/([^/]*)(/)?$ index.php?action=error&mode=$1 [nc] # ----------------------------------- Content Section ------------------------------ # #RewriteRule ^([^/]*)(/)?$ index.php?action=cms&mode=$1 [nc] RewriteRule ^accessibility(/)?$ index.php?action=cms&mode=accessibility RewriteRule ^terms(/)?$ index.php?action=cms&mode=conditions RewriteRule ^privacy(/)?$ index.php?action=cms&mode=privacy RewriteRule ^memberpoints(/)?$ index.php?action=cms&mode=member_points RewriteRule ^contactus(/)?$ index.php?action=contactus RewriteRule ^sitemap(/)?$ index.php?action=sitemap ErrorDocument 404 /index.php?action=error&mode=content ExpiresDefault "access plus 3 days" All page URLS are in one of the 3 following formats: http://www.mydomain.com/department/some_page_address/ http://www.mydomain.com/product/some_page_address/ http://www.mydomain.com/content/some_page_address/ I'm sure I am missing something obvious, but at this level my regex and mod_rewrite skills clearly aren't up to par. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

  • Search Route in ASP.NET MVC

    - by olst
Hi. I have a simple search form in my master page and a serach controller and view. • Handling button click in ASP.NET MVC 2 RTM

    - by Leniel Macaferi
I have a View in which the user is able to upload a file to the server. In this view I also have 2 buttons: one to Upload a file and other to Download the last file imported. In my Controller I created 2 action methods: Import and Export. How could I manage to redirect each button click to the proper action method in my Controller? I have tried Html.ActionLink: <%= Html.ActionLink("Upload", "Import", "OracleFile")%> <%= Html.ActionLink("Download", "Export", "OracleFile")%> Html.ActionLink didn't do the trick. The action links were taking me to the right Action methods but they were generating a GET request. This way Request.Files.Count = 0. I need a POST request.

  • Getting the Action during model binding

    - by Kieron
Hi, Is there a way of getting the Action, and reading any attributes, during the model binding phase? The scenario is this: I've got a default model binder set-up for a certain data-type, but depending on how it's being used (which is controlled via an attribute on the action) I need to ignore a set of data. I can use the RouteData on the controller context and see the action name, which I can use to go get the data, but wondered if that information is already available. Additionally, if the action in question is an asynchronous one, they'd be more processing involved in looking it up...

  • C# style Action<T>, Func<T,T>, etc in C++0x

    - by Austin Hyde
C# has generic function types such as Action<T> or Func<T,U,V,...> With the advent of C++0x and the ability to have template typedef's and variadic template parameters, it seems this should be possible. The obvious solution to me would be this: template <typename T> using Action<T> = void (*)(T); however, this does not accommodate for functors or C++0x lambdas, and beyond that, does not compile with the error "expected unqualified-id before 'using'" My next attempt was to perhaps use boost::function: template <typename T> using Action<T> = boost::function<void (T)>; This doesn't compile either, for the same reason. My only other idea would be STL style template arguments: template <typename T, typename Action> void foo(T value, Action f) { f(value); } But this doesn't provide a strongly typed solution, and is only relevant inside the templated function. Now, I will be the first to admit that I am not the C++ wiz I prefer to think I am, so it's very possible there is an obvious solution I'm not seeing. Is it possible to have C# style generic function types in C++?

  • Removing $_SESSION['layout']['action'] globally from all users!

    - by sologhost
Ok, I am storing a session variable like so to load up users layouts faster if it's set instead of calling the database. But since the layout can be changed via the Administrator, I'd like to be able to globally remove all sessions where $_SESSION['layout']['action'] is set for all users. $_SESSION['layout']['action'] = array(a ton of indexes and mulit-dimensional arrays); Now, I know it's being stored into my database sessions table, there's a column for session_id, last_update, and data. So, question I have is how to remove that session array key ['action'] from all users. Using $_SESSION = array(); session_destroy(); Does not work. Basically, session_start() is being loaded on every page load, so I just want to remove all ['action'] keys from ['layout']. Is this possible to do? Thanks

  • ASP.NET MVC: post-redirect-get pattern, with only two overloaded action methods

    - by Rafi
Is it possible to implement post-redirect-get pattern, with two overloaded action methods(One for GET action and the other for POST action) in ASP.NET MVC. In all of the MVC post-redirect-get pattern samples, I have seen three different action methods for the post-redirect-get process, each having different names. Is this really required? For Eg:(Does the code shown below, follows Post-Redirect-Get pattern?) public class SalaryTransferController : Controller { // // GET: /SalaryTransfer/ [HttpGet] public ActionResult Index(int id) { SalaryTransferIndexViewModel vm = new SalaryTransferIndexViewModel(id) { SelectedDivision = DivisionEnum.Contracting }; //Do some processing here return View(vm); } // // POST: /SalaryTransfer/ [HttpPost] public ActionResult Index(SalaryTransferIndexViewModel vm) { bool validationsuccess = false; //validate if (validationsuccess) return RedirectToAction("Index", new {id=1234 }); else return View(vm); } } Thank you for your responses.

  • InstallExecuteSequence cache interferes with custom action operation

    - by Dima G
I need to upgrade a product that could be installed in per-user context to a new version that is always in per-machine context. The requirements are: Whether the old version was installed in a Per-User (no matter who) or Per-Machine context should be completely seamless to an administrator user that performs the upgrade. The MSI upgrade should succeed without the need to know the password of the user that originally installed the previous version of the product in a Per-User context. The installation should be performed from a single .msi file (no setup.exe is allowed). The installation should be able to run in a silent (non-UI) mode. No reboots are allowed during installation. My strategy is to find in the beginning of the installation whether the product is already installed in per-user context, and if so, to transform the registry keys manually to Per-Machine context (I checked: no additional changes such as file system changes etc. are needed except this transform). I figured out how to move all appropriate keys in the registry from the user settings to the machine settings (pre-loaded appropriate user hive in case it didn't appear in HKEY_USERS) and created custom action that does it - and it does work when I run it as a stand-alone executable before running the MSI. The problem, however, is that when Windows Installer runs InstallExecuteSequence it first creates a 'cached product context' for all products. So when my custom action runs in the course of InstallExecuteSequence, this cache has already been created. Thus FindRelatedProducts action that determines if older product with same upgrade code exists looks on that cache and ignores the changes that my custom action applied. If before running the MSI the previous product was in per-user context, FindRelatedProducts will look at the cache and not apply the upgrade and remove the previous version, because the new product is in per-machine context, even though the previous product version is already configured to per-machine context in the registry by that time by my custom action. What can be done to solve this problem without violating the requirements stated above?

  • rails, rest, render different action with responds to

    - by Sam
Maybe my logic is not restful or know if this is how you would do it but this is what I am trying to do. I'm getting a category inside a category controller and then once I get that category I want to return to an index page in a different controller but keep that @category and the Category.busineses. Before rest I would have just done this: render :controller = "businesses" and it would have rendered the view of the index action in that controller. now in my respond_to block I have this format.html {redirect_to(business_path)} # index.html.erb format.xml { render :xml => @businesses } but of course with a render it looses the instance variable and starts with a new action. So what I want to do is render the action instead of redirecting to that action. is this possible?

  • link_to for calling an action, instead of a button_to

    - by Brian Roisentul
I'd like to call an action with a link_to button without being redirected to another page(I don't want ajax). For you to have an idea, I'm trying to accomplish a sort "link button" in a search page. So, when the link is clicked, the page should be refreshed showing the list ordered as I tell it in the action. If I do the following in my view, it will ask me for a template called as the action, and I don't want it: <%= link_to 'M&Aacute;S RELEVANTES', search_filter_relevance_path %> My routes file looks like this: map.search_filter_relevance "/anuncios/buscar", :controller => 'announcements', :action => 'search_filter_relevance' And my controller looks like this(I haven't developed the functionality yet): def search_filter_relevance end Any help on this will be appreciated.

I did not specify "city" in my object defaults: new { controller="Employees", action = "List", pageNumber = 1 } Please explain. Thanks!

  • Changing the action of a form with javascript/jquery

    - by Micah
I'm having an issue that is driving me crazy. I'm trying to modify the openid-selector to support facebook. I'm using RPXNow as my provider so it requires the form to be submitted to a different url than the standard. For example. RpxNow requires me to setup my form like this: <form action="https://wikipediamaze.rpxnow.com/openid/start?token_url=..."> This works for every provider except for facebook and myspace. Those require the form to be posted to a different url like this: <form action="https://wikipediamaze.rpxnow.com/facebook/start?token_url=..."> and <form action="https://wikipediamaze.rpxnow.com/myspace/start?token_url=..."> The open id selector has a bunch of buttons on the form each representing the openid providers. What I'm trying to do is detect when the facebook or myspace button is clicked and changed the action on the form before submitting. However it's not working. Here is my code. I've tried several variations all with the same "not supported" exception $("#openid_form").attr("action", form_url) document.forms[0].action = form_url Any suggestions? Update Here are more details on the code. I've ommitted some for brevity. The only thing i've done is added the facebook section to the "providers_large" object (which successfully adds the logo to the website), and instead of supply a url identifying the user, I'm creating a property called "form_url" which is what I want to set the action of my form to. If you look at the section title "Provider image click" you'll see where I'm checking for the presence of the property "form_url" and using jquery to change the action and submit the form. However when I step through the javascript in debug mode it tells me it's an ivalid operation. var providers_large = { google: { name: 'Google', url: 'https://www.google.com/accounts/o8/id' }, facebook: { name: 'Facebook', form_url: 'http://wikipediamaze.rpxnow.com/facebook/start?token_url=http://www.wikipediamaze.com/Accounts/Logon' }, }; var providers_small = { myopenid: { name: 'MyOpenID', label: 'Enter your MyOpenID username.', url: 'http://{username}.myopenid.com/' }, livejournal: { name: 'LiveJournal', label: 'Enter your Livejournal username.', url: 'http://{username}.livejournal.com/' }, flickr: { name: 'Flickr', label: 'Enter your Flickr username.', url: 'http://flickr.com/{username}/' }, technorati: { name: 'Technorati', label: 'Enter your Technorati username.', url: 'http://technorati.com/people/technorati/{username}/' }, wordpress: { name: 'Wordpress', label: 'Enter your Wordpress.com username.', url: 'http://{username}.wordpress.com/' }, blogger: { name: 'Blogger', label: 'Your Blogger account', url: 'http://{username}.blogspot.com/' }, verisign: { name: 'Verisign', label: 'Your Verisign username', url: 'http://{username}.pip.verisignlabs.com/' }, vidoop: { name: 'Vidoop', label: 'Your Vidoop username', url: 'http://{username}.myvidoop.com/' }, verisign: { name: 'Verisign', label: 'Your Verisign username', url: 'http://{username}.pip.verisignlabs.com/' }, claimid: { name: 'ClaimID', label: 'Your ClaimID username', url: 'http://claimid.com/{username}' } }; var providers = $.extend({}, providers_large, providers_small); var openid = { cookie_expires: 6*30, // 6 months. cookie_name: 'openid_provider', cookie_path: '/', img_path: 'images/', input_id: null, provider_url: null, init: function(input_id) { var openid_btns = $('#openid_btns'); this.input_id = input_id; $('#openid_choice').show(); $('#openid_input_area').empty(); // add box for each provider for (id in providers_large) { openid_btns.append(this.getBoxHTML(providers_large[id], 'large', '.gif')); } if (providers_small) { openid_btns.append('<br/>'); for (id in providers_small) { openid_btns.append(this.getBoxHTML(providers_small[id], 'small', '.ico')); } } $('#openid_form').submit(this.submit); var box_id = this.readCookie(); if (box_id) { this.signin(box_id, true); } }, getBoxHTML: function(provider, box_size, image_ext) { var box_id = provider["name"].toLowerCase(); return '<a title="'+provider["name"]+'" href="javascript: openid.signin(\''+ box_id +'\');"' + ' style="background: #FFF url(' + this.img_path + box_id + image_ext+') no-repeat center center" ' + 'class="' + box_id + ' openid_' + box_size + '_btn"></a>'; }, /* Provider image click */ signin: function(box_id, onload) { var provider = providers[box_id]; if (! provider) { return; } this.highlight(box_id); this.setCookie(box_id); // prompt user for input?
