• Robocopy Mirror Backup gone awry

  I have created a simple batch file script for running Robocopy. It is set to make a backup of my user account folder to my external hard drive. Here's the parameters for Robocopy: ROBOCOPY "C:\Users\Finnly" "F:\Backups\Finnly (Backup)" /ZB /COPY:DAT /DCOPY:T /MIR /256 /MT:32 /XF *.log *.log* *.dat *.tmp *.temp *.old "ntuser*" "SyncToy*" "UpgKit.txt" ".recently-used.xbel" /XD ".gimp-2.6" ".thumbnails" ".VirtualBox" "AppData" "Application Data" "Adobe" "Camtasia Studio" "Cookies" "CyberLink" "DivX Movies" "DVD Architect Pro 5.0 Projects" "dwhelper" "GTA San Andreas User Files" "Lightroom" "Local Settings" "NetHood" "PrintHood" "Scripts" "temp" "Templates" "The KMPlayer" "Tracing" /R:3 /W:10 /V /TS /FP /ETA /LOG+:F:\Backups\Sync.log /TEE For some reason when I run it, it backs up the files and then it seems to back them up again. The size of my user account directory is 18.3 GB but the backup of it occupies over 30 GB. After reading the contents of the log generated, it is obvious that it's copying files more than once. Why is this happening? I'm running Windows Seven Home Premium 64-bit.

• How do I export HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Console\%SystemRoot%_system32_cmd.exe with regedit from cmd.exe?

  I am trying to export the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Console\%SystemRoot%_system32_cmd.exe but am unable to do so, probably because of the percent signs. I tried to escape the %-sign with a caret or another %-sign, but this didn't help me: regedit /e c:\temp\cmd.reg "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Console\%%SystemRoot%%_system32_cmd.exe" and regedit /e c:\temp\cmd.reg "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Console\^%SystemRoot^%_system32_cmd.exe" So, is there a way to do what I want. Edit as per ??????? ???????????'s comment: the key is the exact string, with the percent signs. So I don't want %SystemRoot% expanded, but passed to regedit as is.

• Shell command slow when using pipe, fast with intermediate file

  Does anyone understand this huge difference in processing time, when using an intermediate file, or when using a pipe? I'm converting tiff to pdf using standard tools on a fresh debian squeeze server. A standard way of doing this is to convert to ps first. • Screen startup apps

  I know that most people don't bother with things like screen anymore, but I happen to really like it, even in this GUI day and age. I still do most of my development from a BASH prompt, so it's extremely useful to me. What I'm wondering is what the easiest way is to start an instance of screen (stored in a shell script or .screenrc or somewhere else) so that it starts up with set commands already running in set windows. For example, I use a django test server, so I'd like one window to come up running "python manage.py runserver" and another blank, waiting for commands. The man page is wholly indecipherable. These old unix utilities can do quite nearly everything, so I'm sure this is possible, but I can't for the life of me figure out how. I

• S3200SH error 5220 every boot (CMOS/NVRAM Cleared by jumper)

  I have a S3200SH Intel server board with a Intel Xeon 3220 Quad Core. Every time I boot it, I get error 5220 (CMOS/NVRAM Cleared by jumper). The jumper is not installed and I have replaced the lithium battery. The board overheated once, although still seems to work fine apart from this error. Also if I leave the board sitting in the bios for a while it sometimes randomly turns off, with all 4 diagnostic LED's red. I have moved the 2GB DIMM to another slot, which seems to have fixed this problem. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

• Windows 7 File Associations .mov

  I created a new windows 7 SP1 base image. Everything is all fine and dandy with that. So i am now installing standard applications I would like Quicktime to manage .mov files. The only problem is WMP (Windows Media Player) won't give up the association to .mov files. It's driving me crazy... i've been reading threads on how to fix file associations. • Running Mac OS X 10.6 my users home directory is wrong

  Somehow my home directory on my Mac has been changed and I'm not sure how to go about changing it back, I'm more of a linux guy and Mac OS X has some other mechanism for storing that information. Basically when I log into the machine normally than start a terminal window. I start in the /Users/erik_miller directory, which is my home directory, but when I run some this like cd ~ The machine tries to change to /Users/erik_miller. Yes, the same path with a period on the end. I can change my $HOME environment variable for the session, but the next time I start the machine it reverts. So, I think if I can find where that information is stored I can just change it there and hopefully all will be well.

The goal of this setup is to do interface driver testing without using two PCs. I am using Linux, but if you know how to do that with Windows, I'll buy it!

• Need Info on the Hidden Switch in SET - "/S" How to implement

  I am having some problems doing a proper search of "SET/S" or "SET /S" on google and other search providers. The difficulty arises with the SLASH "/", it is commonly used in search engines to add a "nearness" to the search parameter. I have found no way to escape the SLASH when searching for a SLASH. For those on this community, try searching this domain with the two search terms listed above. It just doesn't work, it ends up looking for SET S instead. But I digress. So Im asking the uber-guru's on this board to help me find out about the documentation of /S and how to implement SET /S in a batch file. Two examples: I've got ls aliased to ls --color=auto, so I'd like to be able to see colour when I do this: ls -l | less I've also got the color extension turned on in Mercurial, so I'd like to see colour output from: hg diff | less and hg st | less After some googling, it seems like some versions of less support either -r or -R to make this work, but no dice for me. I can't see anything in the man page that looks like what I need. (-r or -R SEEM to be the right options, but again, they don't seem to work)

• OSX 10.6 goes unresponsive

  This behavior continues to perplex me. My MBP, running 10.6.7, stops responding to all Apple-based software. Whatever software I have open remains open (Terminal, iTunes, Safari), but if I try to use the F-shortcuts or launch any OSX-based software not already open (System Preferences for example) it just bounces in the dock then never launches. I also cannot reboot without hard rebooting. • Linux Uninstalling errors

  I want to uninstall back-track 5 so I deleted the partitions for back-track os. After deleting the partition that used to be for back-track becomes free space as in picture. But I can't delete that partition nor creating a new partition. I used G-Parted from hiren boot cd but it says there is no partition table, you need to create a partition table. But actually I have 5 partitions already. And I thought of restarting might fix it. But after showing post screen my laptop show grub error. I don't know what to do, and I tried to install back-track again to fix the problem but it also says that i do not have any partitions. I can only boot windows by passing through hiren boot cd. But most of the time My computer is not recognizing the external dvd drive, nor the internal so i have to restart again and again, hoping to catch the time computer recognize the dvd drive. Can I change the boot loader to correct the grub error? SOLVED : I have solved the grub error by writing MBR again by using EasyBCD But I still have the format error.

• Asp.net error messages when on server are not displayed

  I have been tasked with setting up asp.net websites on a windows server 2008 which are all in debug mode When browsing a website on the server and an error occurs, for example the database connection cannot be open I would expect as per normal to receive the Asp.net Server error page with an error dump Something like - http://www.codeproject.com/KB/books/1861005040/image091.gif However, what actually happens is I get random characters on the web page. For example: <?)=????*??2o????v??YK?WuZ,?6[N??f?O??b??@!???u]S??yQ?iN?&e???E???j??1z??x??????o?y????U??M???2d?i?4 This is not the correct or expected behaviour. The event log does however show what has gone wrong. How do I get the Server Error page to render properly, am I missing something in the servers asp.net setup?

• Partition error being reported by only some programs

  I am getting an error about the partitions on one of my drives. I checked my hard disk with Acronis Disk Director 11 Home, HDTunePro, MiniTool Partition Wizard, Hddscan, HDD Regenerator 2011, WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics, GParted, and Parted Magic, but none of them found any problems with the drive. However, when I perform a check with PartitionGuru, DiskGenius, and an old version of Partition Magic (8.0), I get the following error (seen below) about the partition being bad and needing to reformat to fix it: Error - The number of sectors record in DBR overflow - Reformat Should I reforamt or not? I checked two other hard drives, one of them like my 500 WD Blue, and neither has any errors with any progras. Are there any other programs that can check partitions for errors? Finally, how should a large SATA hard disk be formatted? I currently use programs like GParted, Acronis Disk Director, or MiniTool Partition Wizard. Are these programs good for formatting a new hard disk? Could the choice of format tool be the cause of the error?
