  • Memory corruption in System.Move due to changed 8087CW mode (png + stretchblt)

    - by André Mussche
I have strange a memory corruption problem. After many hours debugging and trying I think I found something. For example: I do a simple string assignment: sTest := 'SET LOCK_TIMEOUT '; However, the result sometimes becomes: sTest = 'SET LOCK'#0'TIMEOUT ' So, the _ gets replaced by an 0 byte. I have seen this happening once (reproducing is tricky, dependent on timing) in the System.Move function, when it uses the FPU stack (fild, fistp) for fast memory copy (in case of 9 till 32 bytes to move): ... @@SmallMove: {9..32 Byte Move} fild qword ptr [eax+ecx] {Load Last 8} fild qword ptr [eax] {Load First 8} cmp ecx, 8 jle @@Small16 fild qword ptr [eax+8] {Load Second 8} cmp ecx, 16 jle @@Small24 fild qword ptr [eax+16] {Load Third 8} fistp qword ptr [edx+16] {Save Third 8} ... Using the FPU view and 2 memory debug views (Delphi - View - Debug - CPU - Memory) I saw it going wrong... once... could not reproduce however... This morning I read something about the 8087CW mode, and yes, if this is changed into $27F I get memory corruption! Normally it is $133F: The difference between $133F and $027F is that $027F sets up the FPU for doing less precise calculations (limiting to Double in stead of Extended) and different infiniti handling (which was used for older FPU’s, but is not used any more). Okay, now I found why but not when! I changed the working of my AsmProfiler with a simple check (so all functions are checked at enter and leave): if Get8087CW = $27F then //normally $1372? if MainThreadID = GetCurrentThreadId then //only check mainthread DebugBreak; I "profiled" some units and dll's and bingo (see stack): Windows.StretchBlt(3372289943,0,0,514,345,4211154027,0,0,514,345,13369376) pngimage.TPNGObject.DrawPartialTrans(4211154027,(0, 0, 514, 345, (0, 0), (514, 345))) pngimage.TPNGObject.Draw($7FF62450,(0, 0, 514, 345, (0, 0), (514, 345))) Graphics.TCanvas.StretchDraw((0, 0, 514, 345, (0, 0), (514, 345)),$7FECF3D0) ExtCtrls.TImage.Paint Controls.TGraphicControl.WMPaint((15, 4211154027, 0, 0)) So it is happening in StretchBlt... What to do now? Is it a fault of Windows, or a bug in PNG (included in D2007)? Or is the System.Move function not failsafe?

  • Which network protocol to use for lightweight notification of remote apps?

    - by Chris Thornton
I have this situation.... Client-initiated SOAP 1.1 communication between one server and let's say, tens of thousands of clients. Clients are external, coming in through our firewall, authenticated by certificate, https, etc.. They can be anywhere, and usually have their own firewalls, NAT routers, etc... They're truely external, not just remote corporate offices. They could be in a corporate/campus network, DSL/Cable, even Dialup. Client uses Delphi (2005 + SOAP fixes from 2007), and the server is C#, but from an architecture/design standpoint, that shouldn't matter. Currently, clients push new data to the server and pull new data from the server on 15-minute polling loop. The server currently does not push data - the client hits the "messagecount" method, to see if there is new data to pull. If 0, it sleeps for another 15 min and checks again. We're trying to get that down to 7 seconds. If this were an internal app, with one or just a few dozen clients, we'd write a cilent "listener" soap service, and would push data to it. But since they're external, sit behind their own firewalls, and sometimes private networks behind NAT routers, this is not practical. So we're left with polling on a much quicker loop. 10K clients, each checking their messagecount every 10 seconds, is going to be 1000/sec messages that will mostly just waste bandwidth, server, firewall, and authenticator resources. So I'm trying to design something better than what would amount to a self-inflicted DoS attack. I don't think it's practical to have the server send soap messages to the client (push) as this would require too much configuration at the client end. But I think there are alternatives that I don't know about. Such as: 1) Is there a way for the client to make a request for GetMessageCount() via Soap 1.1, and get the response, and then perhaps, "stay on the line" for perhaps 5-10 minutes to get additional responses in case new data arrives? i.e the server says "0", then a minute later in response to some SQL trigger (the server is C# on Sql Server, btw), knows that this client is still "on the line" and sends the updated message count of "5"? 2) Is there some other protocol that we could use to "ping" the client, using information gathered from their last GetMessageCount() request? 3) I don't even know. I guess I'm looking for some magic protocol where the client can send a GetMessageCount() request, which would include info for "oh by the way, in case the answer changes in the next hour, ping me at this address...". Also, I'm assuming that any of these "keep the line open" schemes would seriously impact the server sizing, as it would need to keep many thousands of connections open, simultaneously. That would likely impact the firewalls too, I think. Is there anything out there like that? Or am I pretty much stuck with polling? TIA, Chris

  • How to override loading a TImage from the object inspector (at run-time)?

    - by Mawg
Further to my previous question, which did not get a useful answer despite a bounty, I will try rephrasing the question. Basically, when the user clicks the ellipsis in the object inspector, Delphi opens a file/open dialog. I want to replace this handling with my own, so that I can save the image's path. I would have expected that all I need to do is to derive a class from TImage and override the Assign() function, as in the following code. However, when I do the assign function is never called. So, it looks like I need to override something else, but what? unit my_Image; interface uses Classes, ExtCtrls, Jpeg, Graphics; type Tmy_Image = class(Timage) private FPicture : TPicture; protected procedure OnChange(Sender: TObject); public { Public declarations } Constructor Create(AOwner: TComponent); override; procedure SetPicture(picture : TPicture); procedure Assign(Source: TPersistent); override; published { Published declarations - available in the Object Inspector at design-time } property Picture : TPicture read FPicture write SetPicture; end; // of class Tmy_Image() procedure Register; implementation uses Controls, Dialogs; procedure Register; begin RegisterComponents('Standard', [Tmy_Image]); end; Constructor Tmy_Image.Create(AOwner: TComponent); begin inherited; // Call the parent Create method Hint := 'Add an image from a file|Add an image from a file'; // Tooltip | status bar text AutoSize := True; // Control resizes when contents change (new image is loaded) Height := 104; Width := 104; FPicture := TPicture.Create(); self.Picture.Bitmap.LoadFromResourceName(hInstance, 'picture_poperty_bmp'); end; procedure Tmy_Image.OnChange(Sender: TObject); begin Constraints.MaxHeight := Picture.Height; Constraints.MaxWidth := Picture.Width; Self.Height := Picture.Height; Self.Width := Picture.Width; end; procedure Tmy_Image.SetPicture(picture : TPicture); begin MessageDlg('Tmy_Image.SetPicture', mtWarning, [mbOK], 0); // never called end; procedure Tmy_Image.Assign(Source: TPersistent); begin MessageDlg('Tmy_Image.Assign', mtWarning, [mbOK], 0); // never called end; end.

  • What can cause System.Move to occasionaly give wrong results?

    - by Fredrik Loftheim
    The last few days we have had some strange problems with our database components developed by a third party. There has been no changes to these components for months. The code that HAS changed the last few days is our own code and we have also updated our gui-components developed by another third party. After debugging I have found that a call to System.Move in one of the database component procedures occationaly gives wrong results! Please take a look at the code below from the database components and read my comments. How can this inconsistent behaviour happen? Can anyone give me an idea of how to procede to find the cause of this inconsistent behaviour? NB! I dont think there is anything wrong with THIS code, it is only shown to explain the problem "symptoms". My guess is that there is some sort of memory corruption or something, caused by our code or the updated gui-component-code. Edit: Take a look at the blogpost linked below. It seems that it could be related to my problem. At least as I read it it confirms that System.Move can give wrong results: http://blog.excastle.com/2007/08/28/delphi-bug-of-the-day-fpu-stack-leak/ Procedure InternalDescribe; var cbufl: sb4; //sb4=LongInt cbuf: array[0..30] of char; cbufp: PChar; //.... begin //..Some code repeat //...Some code to initialize cbufp and cbufl //On the 15. iteration the values immediately Before Move are always these: //cbufp = 'STDPRODUCTSTOREDELEMENTSCOUNT' //cbuf = ('S', 'T', 'A', 'T', 'U', 'S', #0, 'E', 'V', 'A', 'R', 'R', 'E', 'C', 'I', 'D', #0, 'D', 'U', 'C', 'T', 'I', 'D', #0, #0, #0, #0, #0, #0, #0, #0) //cbufl = 29 Move(cbufp^, cbuf, cbufl); //Values immediately After Move should then be: //cbuf = ('S', 'T', 'D', 'P', 'R', 'O', 'D', 'U', 'C', 'T', 'S', 'T', 'O', 'R', 'E', 'D', 'E', 'L', 'E', 'M', 'E', 'N', 'T', 'S', 'C', 'O', 'U', 'N', 'T', #0, #0) //But sometimes this Move results in this value( 1 in 5..15 times): //cbuf = ('S', 'T', 'D', 'P', 'R', 'O', 'D', 'U', 'C', 'T', 'S', 'T', 'O', 'R', 'E', 'D', #0, #0, #0, #0, #0, 'N', 'T', 'S', 'C', 'O', 'U', 'N', 'T', #0, #0) } until SomeCondition; //...Some more code end;

  • Programmatically swap colors from a loaded bitmap to Red, Green, Blue or Gray, pixel by pixel.

    - by eyeClaxton
Download source code here: http://www.eyeClaxton.com/download/delphi/ColorSwap.zip I would like to take a original bitmap (light blue) and change the colors (Pixel by Pixel) to the red, green, blue and gray equivalence relation. To get an idea of what I mean, I have include the source code and a screen shot. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If more information is needed, please feel free to ask. If you could take a look at the code below, I have three functions that I'm looking for help on. The functions "RGBToRed, RGBToGreen and RGBToRed" I can't seem to come up with the right formulas. unit MainUnit; interface uses Windows, Messages, SysUtils, Variants, Classes, Graphics, Controls, Forms, Dialogs, ExtCtrls, StdCtrls; type TMainFrm = class(TForm) Panel1: TPanel; Label1: TLabel; Panel2: TPanel; Label2: TLabel; Button1: TButton; BeforeImage1: TImage; AfterImage1: TImage; RadioGroup1: TRadioGroup; procedure FormCreate(Sender: TObject); procedure Button1Click(Sender: TObject); private { Private declarations } public { Public declarations } end; var MainFrm: TMainFrm; implementation {$R *.DFM} function RGBToGray(RGBColor: TColor): TColor; var Gray: Byte; begin Gray := Round( (0.90 * GetRValue(RGBColor)) + (0.88 * GetGValue(RGBColor)) + (0.33 * GetBValue(RGBColor))); Result := RGB(Gray, Gray, Gray); end; function RGBToRed(RGBColor: TColor): TColor; var Red: Byte; begin // Not sure of the algorithm for this color Result := RGB(Red, Red, Red); end; function RGBToGreen(RGBColor: TColor): TColor; var Green: Byte; begin // Not sure of the algorithm for this color Result := RGB(Green, Green, Green); end; function RGBToBlue(RGBColor: TColor): TColor; var Blue: Byte; begin // Not sure of the algorithm for this color Result := RGB(Blue, Blue, Blue); end; procedure TMainFrm.FormCreate(Sender: TObject); begin BeforeImage1.Picture.LoadFromFile('Images\RightCenter.bmp'); end; procedure TMainFrm.Button1Click(Sender: TObject); var Bitmap: TBitmap; I, X: Integer; Color: Integer; begin Bitmap := TBitmap.Create; try Bitmap.LoadFromFile('Images\RightCenter.bmp'); for X := 0 to Bitmap.Height do begin for I := 0 to Bitmap.Width do begin Color := ColorToRGB(Bitmap.Canvas.Pixels[I, X]); case Color of $00000000: ; // Skip any Color Here! else case RadioGroup1.ItemIndex of 0: Bitmap.Canvas.Pixels[I, X] := RGBToBlue(Color); 1: Bitmap.Canvas.Pixels[I, X] := RGBToRed(Color); 2: Bitmap.Canvas.Pixels[I, X] := RGBToGreen(Color); 3: Bitmap.Canvas.Pixels[I, X] := RGBToGray(Color); end; end; end; end; AfterImage1.Picture.Graphic := Bitmap; finally Bitmap.Free; end; end; end. Okay, I apologize for not making it clearer. I'm trying to take a bitmap (blue in color) and swap the blue pixels with another color. Like the shots below.

  • Large number of soft page faults when assigning a TJpegImage to a TBitmap

    - by Robert Oschler
I have a Delphi 6 Pro application that processes incoming jpeg frames from a streaming video server. The code works but I recently noticed that it generates a huge number of soft page faults over time. After doing some investigation, the page faults appear to be coming from one particular graphics operation. Note, the uncompressed bitmaps in question are 320 x 240 or about 300 KB in size so it's not due to the handling of large images. The number of page faults being generated isn't tolerable. Over an hour it can easily top 1000000 page faults. I created a stripped down test case that executes the code I have included below on a timer, 10 times a second. The page faults appear to happen when I try to assign the TJpegImage to a TBitmap in the GetBitmap() method. I know this because I commented out that line and the page faults do not occur. The assign() triggers a decompression operation on the part of TJpegImage as it pushes the decompressed bits into a newly created bitmap that GetBitmap() returns. When I run Microsoft's pfmon utility (page fault monitor), I get a huge number of soft page fault error lines concerning RtlFillMemoryUlong, so it appears to happen during a memory buffer fill operation. One puzzling note. The summary part of pfmon's report where it shows which DLL caused what page fault does not show any DLL names in the far left column. I tried this on another system and it happens there too. Can anyone suggest a fix or a workaround? Here's the code. Note, IReceiveBufferForClientSocket is a simple class object that holds bytes in an accumulating buffer. function GetBitmap(theJpegImage: TJpegImage): Graphics.TBitmap; begin Result := TBitmap.Create; Result.Assign(theJpegImage); end; // --------------------------------------------------------------- procedure processJpegFrame(intfReceiveBuffer: IReceiveBufferForClientSocket); var theBitmap: TBitmap; theJpegStream, theBitmapStream: TMemoryStream; theJpegImage: TJpegImage; begin theBitmap := nil; theJpegImage := TJPEGImage.Create; theJpegStream:= TMemoryStream.Create; theBitmapStream := TMemoryStream.Create; try // 2 // ************************ BEGIN JPEG FRAME PROCESSING // Load the JPEG image from the receive buffer. theJpegStream.Size := intfReceiveBuffer.numBytesInBuffer; Move(intfReceiveBuffer.bufPtr^, theJpegStream.Memory^, intfReceiveBuffer.numBytesInBuffer); theJpegImage.LoadFromStream(theJpegStream); // Convert to bitmap. theBitmap := GetBitmap(theJpegImage); finally // Free memory objects. if Assigned(theBitmap) then theBitmap.Free; if Assigned(theJpegImage) then theJpegImage.Free; if Assigned(theBitmapStream) then theBitmapStream.Free; if Assigned(theJpegStream) then theJpegStream.Free; end; // try() end; // --------------------------------------------------------------- procedure TForm1.Timer1Timer(Sender: TObject); begin processJpegFrame(FIntfReceiveBufferForClientSocket); end; // --------------------------------------------------------------- procedure TForm1.FormCreate(Sender: TObject); var S: string; begin FIntfReceiveBufferForClientSocket := TReceiveBufferForClientSocket.Create(1000000); S := loadStringFromFile('c:\test.jpg'); FIntfReceiveBufferForClientSocket.assign(S); end; // --------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks, Robert

  • How do I solve "Two different CRTLDLLs are loaded" when using packages in C++ Builder 2010?

    - by David M
Hi, We are trying to split up our monolithic EXE into a combination of an EXE and several packages. So far, we have one package that we're trying to use, and when running the EXE Codeguard shows the following error on startup: CG Error Two different CRTLDLLs are loaded. CG might report false errors (C:\Windows\system32\CC32100MT.DLL) (D:\Projects\Foo\Bar.bpl) OK I read this as two different runtime libraries being loaded - one, the correct one (CC32100MT.dll), one incorrect, which is the package we're trying to use. Continuing to run the program shows odd errors, especially casting between classes or passing a pointer to a class as a parameter in a method that crosses the EXE/DLL boundary. Codeguard itself doesn't show any other errors at all though. How do we solve this? Some more details We've looked at as many things as we (the developer working on this and I) can collectively think of: Each project is built using runtime packages. The EXE host lists Bar in its package list. Each project is set to compile with dynamic RTL. However, changing this does not solve the problem. The package is linked to the EXE via its BPI file, but linking via a LIB makes no difference either. The EXE and BPL are compiled with the same project settings, where the same options exist for both types of project. We think, anyway :) There is only one copy of the BPL and BPI on the system: it's definitely linking to the right one. Examining the EXE and BPL with Depends and TDump show they are both using C:\Windows\system32\CC32100MT.DLL. They should both be using the one RTL. Creating a new project (a plain VCL forms application) and linking to the BPL (via its BPI) works fine. Something in the process of adding all the files and LIBs that make our EXE contain the code it needs to changes this, but we haven't been able to figure out what. The LIBs all either correspond to DLLs we use (flat C interface, usually look as though they were built with MSVC) or are simple projects with lots of related files, compiled to a lib for the purpose of linking into the EXE - these correspond roughly to the areas of the program we want to split to BPLs, by the way. There don't seem to be project options for the LIB projects that would affect RTL linking, unless we've missed them. I have exhaustively hunted through Depends and looked at all RTL and CC32*.dll files the EXE and every single DLL references. All are identical: rtl140.bpl and CC32100MT.DLL. Fully qualified paths show they are the same files, too. Everything should be using the one same run-time library. We're stumped. Absolutely stumped. We've had other problems using BPLs (they seem to be surprisingly tricky things, especially using C++) but have managed to solve them all. This one we've had no luck at all and we'd really appreciate any insights :) We're using C++Builder 2010 (as part of RAD Studio actually, but with little Delphi code apart from components.)

  • Lock free multiple readers single writer

    - by dummzeuch
I have got an in memory data structure that is read by multiple threads and written by only one thread. Currently I am using a critical section to make this access threadsafe. Unfortunately this has the effect of blocking readers even though only another reader is accessing it. There are two options to remedy this: use TMultiReadExclusiveWriteSynchronizer do away with any blocking by using a lock free approach For 2. I have got the following so far (any code that doesn't matter has been left out): type TDataManager = class private FAccessCount: integer; FData: TDataClass; public procedure Read(out _Some: integer; out _Data: double); procedure Write(_Some: integer; _Data: double); end; procedure TDataManager.Read(out _Some: integer; out _Data: double); var Data: TDAtaClass; begin InterlockedIncrement(FAccessCount); try // make sure we get both values from the same TDataClass instance Data := FData; // read the actual data _Some := Data. Some; _Data := Data.Data; finally InterlockedDecrement(FAccessCount); end; end; procedure TDataManager.Write(_Some: integer; _Data: double); var NewData: TDataClass; OldData: TDataClass; ReaderCount: integer; begin NewData := TDataClass.Create(_Some, _Data); InterlockedIncrement(FAccessCount); OldData := TDataClass(InterlockedExchange(integer(FData), integer(NewData)); // now FData points to the new instance but there might still be // readers that got the old one before we exchanged it. ReaderCount := InterlockedDecrement(FAccessCount); if ReaderCount = 0 then // no active readers, so we can safely free the old instance FreeAndNil(OldData) else begin /// here is the problem end; end; Unfortunately there is the small problem of getting rid of the OldData instance after it has been replaced. If no other thread is currently within the Read method (ReaderCount=0), it can safely be disposed and that's it. But what can I do if that's not the case? I could just store it until the next call and dispose it there, but Windows scheduling could in theory let a reader thread sleep while it is within the Read method and still has got a reference to OldData. If you see any other problem with the above code, please tell me about it. This is to be run on computers with multiple cores and the above methods are to be called very frequently. In case this matters: I am using Delphi 2007 with the builtin memory manager. I am aware that the memory manager probably enforces some lock anyway when creating a new class but I want to ignore that for the moment. Edit: It may not have been clear from the above: For the full lifetime of the TDataManager object there is only one thread that writes to the data, not several that might compete for write access. So this is a special case of MREW.

  • GetAcceptExSockaddrs returns garbage! Does anyone know why?

    - by David
Hello, I'm trying to write a quick/dirty echoserver in Delphi, but I notice that GetAcceptExSockaddrs seems to be writing to only the first 4 bytes of the structure I pass it. USES SysUtils; TYPE BOOL = LongBool; DWORD = Cardinal; LPDWORD = ^DWORD; short = SmallInt; ushort = Word; uint16 = Word; uint = Cardinal; ulong = Cardinal; SOCKET = uint; PVOID = Pointer; _HANDLE = DWORD; _in_addr = packed record s_addr : ulong; end; _sockaddr_in = packed record sin_family : short; sin_port : uint16; sin_addr : _in_addr; sin_zero : array[0..7] of Char; end; P_sockaddr_in = ^_sockaddr_in; _Overlapped = packed record Internal : Int64; Offset : Int64; hEvent : _HANDLE; end; LP_Overlapped = ^_Overlapped; IMPORTS function _AcceptEx (sListenSocket, sAcceptSocket : SOCKET; lpOutputBuffer : PVOID; dwReceiveDataLength, dwLocalAddressLength, dwRemoteAddressLength : DWORD; lpdwBytesReceived : LPDWORD; lpOverlapped : LP_OVERLAPPED) : BOOL; stdcall; external MSWinsock name 'AcceptEx'; procedure _GetAcceptExSockaddrs (lpOutputBuffer : PVOID; dwReceiveDataLength, dwLocalAddressLength, dwRemoteAddressLength : DWORD; LocalSockaddr : P_Sockaddr_in; LocalSockaddrLength : LPINT; RemoteSockaddr : P_Sockaddr_in; RemoteSockaddrLength : LPINT); stdcall; external MSWinsock name 'GetAcceptExSockaddrs'; CONST BufDataSize = 8192; BufAddrSize = SizeOf (_sockaddr_in) + 16; VAR ListenSock, AcceptSock : SOCKET; Addr, LocalAddr, RemoteAddr : _sockaddr_in; LocalAddrSize, RemoteAddrSize : INT; Buf : array[1..BufDataSize + BufAddrSize * 2] of Byte; BytesReceived : DWORD; Ov : _Overlapped; BEGIN //WSAStartup, create listen socket, bind to port 1066 on any interface, listen //Create event for overlapped (autoreset, initally not signalled) //Create accept socket if _AcceptEx (ListenSock, AcceptSock, @Buf, BufDataSize, BufAddrSize, BufAddrSize, @BytesReceived, @Ov) then WinCheck ('SetEvent', _SetEvent (Ov.hEvent)) else if GetLastError <> ERROR_IO_PENDING then WinCheck ('AcceptEx', GetLastError); {do WaitForMultipleObjects} _GetAcceptExSockaddrs (@Buf, BufDataSize, BufAddrSize, BufAddrSize, @LocalAddr, @LocalAddrSize, @RemoteAddr, @RemoteAddrSize); So if I run this, connect to it with Telnet (on same computer, connecting to localhost) and then type a key, WaitForMultipleObjects will unblock and GetAcceptExSockaddrs will run. But the result is garbage! RemoteAddr.sin_family = -13894 RemoteAddr.sin_port = 64 and the rest is zeroes. What gives? Thanks in advance!

QUESTIONs I'd like to know why I am getting Network error: 403 Forbidden in firebug for files that I am not trying to access? is it likely to cause any serious problems on the webserver? how to fix it. Why is my browser trying to access those files in the error message? DETAILS I’m using wampserver 2.2 to access a folder via the browser. The browser is on the same computer as the server. • Tomcat 7 on Ubuntu 12.04 startup issues

    - by Nico Huysamen
I am having trouble getting tomcat 7 to start up on my new VPS. I am really scratching my head since I have done this often. So I'm thinking it might be the VPS. I just got a new VPS from CINFU. After a clean install of Ubuntu 12.04 32bit, I install openjdk-6-jdk, update JAVA_HOME to point to: /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-i386 and JRE_HOME to: /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-i386/jre But when I try to run: ./catalina.sh run it simply outputs: Using CATALINA_BASE: /opt/tomcat/apache-tomcat-7.0.29 Using CATALINA_HOME: /opt/tomcat/apache-tomcat-7.0.29 Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /opt/tomcat/apache-tomcat-7.0.29/temp Using JRE_HOME: /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-i386 Using CLASSPATH: /opt/tomcat/apache-tomcat-7.0.29/bin/bootstrap.jar:/opt/tomcat/apache-tomcat-7.0.29/bin/tomcat-juli.jar and stops. It just hangs there doing nothing. If I run ./startup.sh && tail -f ../logs/catalina.out it gets to: Aug 24, 2012 8:38:36 PM org.apache.coyote.AbstractProtocol init INFO: Initializing ProtocolHandler ["http-bio-8080"] Aug 24, 2012 8:38:36 PM org.apache.coyote.AbstractProtocol init INFO: Initializing ProtocolHandler ["ajp-bio-8009"] Aug 24, 2012 8:38:36 PM org.apache.catalina.startup.Catalina load INFO: Initialization processed in 495 ms Aug 24, 2012 8:38:36 PM org.apache.catalina.core.StandardService startInternal INFO: Starting service Catalina Aug 24, 2012 8:38:36 PM org.apache.catalina.core.StandardEngine startInternal INFO: Starting Servlet Engine: Apache Tomcat/7.0.29 but I am unable to access anything. The request just hangs. I have also tried a few other things like explicitly exporting the paths etc in catalina.sh, and running ./startup.sh rather than catalina.sh, but the furthest I have gotten is that it finishes deploying all the WARs (the default ones that comes with tomcat like the host-manager etc), but then it hangs: Aug 24, 2012 8:47:30 PM org.apache.coyote.AbstractProtocol init INFO: Initializing ProtocolHandler ["http-bio-8080"] and does nothing. Anyone have any pointers that might help? As I said, I must really be missing something stupid since this has worked on all other VPSs that we have. UPDATE I figured out that the problem is actually the fact that they use OpnVZ virtualization and that there are known compatibility problems with Java.

  • Host couldn't be reached by domain name, only by IP: Apache's fault?

    - by MaxArt
I have this Windows Server 2003 R2 32 bit machine running Apache 2.4.2 with OpenSSL 1.0.1c and PHP 5.4.5 via mod_fcgid 2.3.7. This config worked just fine for some hours, but then the site couldn't be reached with its domain name, say www.example.com, but it could be still reached by its IP address. In particular, while https://www.example.com/ yielded a connection error, http://123.1.2.3/ worked just fine. Yes, first https then http. Error and access logs were clean, i.e. they showed no signs of problems. Just the usual messages, that were interrupted while the site couldn't be reached. After some investigation, a simple restart of Apache solved the problem. Unfortunately, I didn't have the chance to test if https://123.1.2.3/ worked as well, or if http://www.example.com/ was still redirected to https as usual. So, has anyone have any idea of what happened? Before I get tired of Apache and ditch it in favor of Nginx? Edit: Some log informations. The last line of sslerror.log is from 90 minutes before the problem occurred, so I guess it's not important. ssl_request.log shows nothing interesting, too: these are the last two lines before the problem: [28/Aug/2012:17:47:54 +0200] x.x.x.x TLSv1.1 ECDHE-RSA-AES256-SHA "GET /login HTTP/1.1" 1183 [28/Aug/2012:17:47:45 +0200] y.y.y.y TLSv1 ECDHE-RSA-AES256-SHA "POST /upf HTTP/1.1" 73 The previous lines are all the same and don't seem interesting, except 4 lines like these 30-40 seconds before the problem: [28/Aug/2012:17:47:14 +0200] z.z.z.z TLSv1 ECDHE-RSA-AES256-SHA "-" - These are the corrisponding lines from sslaccess.log: z.z.z.z - - [28/Aug/2012:17:47:14 +0200] "-" 408 - ... x.x.x.x - - [28/Aug/2012:17:47:54 +0200] "GET /login HTTP/1.1" 200 1183 y.y.y.y - - [28/Aug/2012:17:47:45 +0200] "POST /upf HTTP/1.1" 200 73

  • linux automatic change permissions in resolv.file

In various linux servers I see how the permissions of the /etc/resolv.conf file change automatically. • Loading FireMonkey style resourses with RTTI

    - by HeMet
I am trying to write class that inherits from FMX TStyledControl. When style is updated it loads style resource objects to cache. I created project group for package with custom controls and test FMX HD project as it describes in Delphi help. After installing package and placing TsgSlideHost on the test form I run test app. It’s work well, but when I close it and try to rebuild package RAD Studio says “Error in rtl160.bpl” or “invalid pointer operation”. It seems what problem in LoadToCacheIfNeeded procedure from TsgStyledControl, but I’m not understand why. Is there any restriction on using RTTI with FMX styles or anything? TsgStyledControl sources: unit SlideGUI.TsgStyledControl; interface uses System.SysUtils, System.Classes, System.Types, FMX.Types, FMX.Layouts, FMX.Objects, FMX.Effects, System.UITypes, FMX.Ani, System.Rtti, System.TypInfo; type TCachedAttribute = class(TCustomAttribute) private fStyleName: string; public constructor Create(const aStyleName: string); property StyleName: string read fStyleName; end; TsgStyledControl = class(TStyledControl) private procedure CacheStyleObjects; procedure LoadToCacheIfNeeded(aField: TRttiField); protected function FindStyleResourceAs<T: class>(const AStyleLookup: string): T; function GetStyleName: string; virtual; abstract; function GetStyleObject: TControl; override; public procedure ApplyStyle; override; published { Published declarations } end; implementation { TsgStyledControl } procedure TsgStyledControl.ApplyStyle; begin inherited; CacheStyleObjects; end; procedure TsgStyledControl.CacheStyleObjects; var ctx: TRttiContext; typ: TRttiType; fld: TRttiField; begin ctx := TRttiContext.Create; try typ := ctx.GetType(Self.ClassType); for fld in typ.GetFields do LoadFromCacheIfNeeded(fld); finally ctx.Free end; end; function TsgStyledControl.FindStyleResourceAs<T>(const AStyleLookup: string): T; var fmxObj: TFmxObject; begin fmxObj := FindStyleResource(AStyleLookup); if Assigned(fmxObj) and (fmxObj is T) then Result := fmxObj as T else Result := nil; end; function TsgStyledControl.GetStyleObject: TControl; var S: TResourceStream; begin if (FStyleLookup = '') then begin if FindRCData(HInstance, GetStyleName) then begin S := TResourceStream.Create(HInstance, GetStyleName, RT_RCDATA); try Result := TControl(CreateObjectFromStream(nil, S)); Exit; finally S.Free; end; end; end; Result := inherited GetStyleObject; end; procedure TsgStyledControl.LoadToCacheIfNeeded(aField: TRttiField); var attr: TCustomAttribute; styleName: string; styleObj: TFmxObject; val: TValue; begin for attr in aField.GetAttributes do begin if attr is TCachedAttribute then begin styleName := TCachedAttribute(attr).StyleName; if styleName <> '' then begin styleObj := FindStyleResource(styleName); val := TValue. From<TFmxObject>(styleObj); aField.SetValue(Self, val); end; end; end; end; { TCachedAttribute } constructor TCachedAttribute.Create(const aStyleName: string); begin fStyleName := aStyleName; end; end. • TStringList and TThread that does not free all of its memory

    - by VanillaH
Version used: Delphi 7. I'm working on a program that does a simple for loop on a Virtual ListView. The data is stored in the following record: type TList=record Item:Integer; SubItem1:String; SubItem2:String; end; Item is the index. SubItem1 the status of the operations (success or not). SubItem2 the path to the file. The for loop loads each file, does a few operations and then, save it. The operations take place in a TStringList. Files are about 2mb each. Now, if I do the operations on the main form, it works perfectly. Multi-threaded, there is a huge memory problem. Somehow, the TStringList doesn't seem to be freed completely. After 3-4k files, I get an EOutofMemory exception. Sometimes, the software is stuck to 500-600mb, sometimes not. In any case, the TStringList always return an EOutofMemory exception and no file can be loaded anymore. On computers with more memory, it takes longer to get the exception. The same thing happens with other components. For instance, if I use THTTPSend from Synapse, well, after a while, the software cannot create any new threads because the memory consumption is too high. It's around 500-600mb while it should be, max, 100mb. On the main form, everything works fine. I guess the mistake is on my side. Maybe I don't understand threads enough. I tried to free everything on the Destroy event. I tried FreeAndNil procedure. I tried with only one thread at a time. I tried freeing the thread manually (no FreeOnTerminate...) No luck. So here is the thread code. It's only the basic idea; not the full code with all the operations. If I remove the LoadFile prodecure, everything works good. A thread is created for each file, according to a thread pool. unit OperationsFiles; interface uses Classes, SysUtils, Windows; type TOperationFile = class(TThread) private Position : Integer; TPath, StatusMessage: String; FileStringList: TStringList; procedure UpdateStatus; procedure LoadFile; protected procedure Execute; override; public constructor Create(Path: String; LNumber: Integer); end; implementation uses Form1; procedure TOperationFile.LoadFile; begin try FileStringList.LoadFromFile(TPath); // Operations... StatusMessage := 'Success'; except on E : Exception do StatusMessage := E.ClassName; end; end; constructor TOperationFile.Create(Path : String; LNumber: Integer); begin inherited Create(False); TPath := Path; Position := LNumber; FreeOnTerminate := True; end; procedure TOperationFile.UpdateStatus; begin FileList[Position].SubItem1 := StatusMessage; Form1.ListView4.UpdateItems(Position,Position); end; procedure TOperationFile.Execute; begin FileStringList:= TStringList.Create; LoadFile; Synchronize(UpdateStatus); FileStringList.Free; end; end. What could be the problem? I thought at one point that, maybe, too many threads are created. If a user loads 1 million files, well, ultimately, 1 million threads is going to be created -- although, only 50 threads are created and running at the same time. Thanks for your input.

Automated Tests in to automated Builds! How to put the right type of automated tests in to the right automated builds.Speaker: Eric LandesTwitter: @ericlandesBlog: http://ericlandes.com/ This was one of the first sessions I attended during CodeStock 2012. Eric’s talk focused mostly on unit testing, and that the lack of proper unit testing can be compared to stealing from an employer. His point was that if you’re not doing proper unit testing then all of the time wasted on fixing issues that could have been detected with unit tests is like stealing money from employer. He makes the assumption that that time spent on fixing these issues could have been better spent developing new features that drive the business. To a point I can agree with Eric’s argument regarding unit testing and stealing from a company’s perspective. I can see how he relates resources being shifted from new development to bug fixes as stealing based on the fact that the resources used to fix bugs are directly taken from other projects. He also states that Boring/Redundant and Build/Test tasks should be automated because it reduces the changes of errors and frees up developer to do what they do best, DEVELOP! When he refers to testing, he breaks testing down in to four distinct types. Unit Test Acceptance Test (This also includes Integration Tests) Performance Test UI Test With this he also recommends that developers should not go buck wild striving for 100% code coverage because some test my not provide a great return on investment. In his experience he recommends that 70% test coverage was a very acceptable rate.

  • NetUserGetLocalGroups - how to call it?

    - by SteveL
Hi, I am using Delphi 2010, latest version (from repository) of JEDI WinAPI and Windows Security Code Library (WSCL). I don't know how to call the NetUserSetGroups function. • Runtime error on UVa Online Judge on Erdos Number

    - by 2012 - End of the World
    I am solving the Erdos number problem from the programming challenges in JAVA. The code runs perfectly in my machine. However on the online judge it results in a runtime error. Could anyone point out the mistake i made? http://uva.onlinejudge.org/index.php?option=com_onlinejudge&Itemid=8&page=show_problem&problem=985 Here is the code import java.util.*; import java.io.*; class Main { private String inputLines[]; private String namesToBeFound[]; private String namesInEachBook[][]; private String searchItem; private boolean solnfound=false; private static final BufferedReader br =new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in)); static String read() throws IOException { String line; while(true) { line=br.readLine(); if(line==null) break; //eof else if(line.length()==0) continue; //blank line else { line=line.trim().replaceAll("\\s+"," "); return line; } } return null; } public static void main(String args[]) throws IOException { Main ob=new Main(); int totalPapers,calcAuthors,totalScenarios; //First input number of scenarios totalScenarios=Integer.parseInt(read()); //Now start a loop for reading total number of scenarios for(int scenario=1;scenario<=totalScenarios;scenario++) { //Now read the line containing the number of papers and authors StringTokenizer line=new StringTokenizer(read()," "); totalPapers=Integer.parseInt(line.nextToken()); calcAuthors=Integer.parseInt(line.nextToken()); //Read a line containing author names along with book names ob.inputLines=new String[totalPapers]; for(int i=0;i<totalPapers;i++) ob.inputLines[i]=read(); //Read a line containing the names to be searched ob.namesToBeFound=new String[calcAuthors]; for(int i=0;i<calcAuthors;i++) ob.namesToBeFound[i]=read(); //Now generate the array ob.buildArray(); //Now search System.out.println("Scenario "+scenario); for(int i=0;i<calcAuthors;i++) { ob.searchItem=ob.namesToBeFound[i]; if(ob.searchItem.equals("Erdos, P.")) { System.out.println("Erdos, P. 0"); continue; } ob.search(ob.namesToBeFound[i],1,new ArrayList()); if(ob.solnfound==false) System.out.println(ob.searchItem+" infinity"); ob.solnfound=false; } } } private void buildArray() { String str; namesInEachBook=new String[inputLines.length][]; for(int i=0;i<inputLines.length;i++) { str=inputLines[i]; str=str.substring(0,str.indexOf(':')); str+=","; namesInEachBook[i]=new String[(countCommas(str)+1)>>1]; for(int j=0;j<namesInEachBook[i].length;j++) { str=str.trim(); namesInEachBook[i][j]=""; namesInEachBook[i][j]+=str.substring(0,str.indexOf(','))+","; str=str.substring(str.indexOf(',')+1); namesInEachBook[i][j]+=str.substring(0,str.indexOf(',')); str=str.substring(str.indexOf(',')+1); } } } private int countCommas(String s) { int num=0; for(int i=0;i<s.length();i++) if(s.charAt(i)==',') num++; return num; } private void search(String searchElem,int ernosDepth,ArrayList searchedElem) { ArrayList searchSpace=new ArrayList(); searchedElem.add(searchElem); for(int i=0;i<namesInEachBook.length;i++) for(int j=0;j<namesInEachBook[i].length;j++) { if(namesInEachBook[i][j].equals(searchElem)) //Add all authors name in this group { for(int k=0;k<namesInEachBook[i].length;k++) { if(namesInEachBook[i][k].equals("Erdos, P.")) //Found { solnfound=true; System.out.println(searchItem+" "+ernosDepth); return; } else if(searchedElem.contains(namesInEachBook[i][k]) || searchSpace.contains(namesInEachBook[i][k])) continue; searchSpace.add(namesInEachBook[i][k]); } break; } } Iterator i=searchSpace.iterator(); while(i.hasNext()) { String cSearchElem=(String)i.next(); search(cSearchElem,ernosDepth+1,searchedElem); } } }

  • PASS Summit for SQL Starters

    - by Davide Mauri
I’ve received a buch of emails from PASS Summit “First Timers” that are also somehow new to SQL Server (for “somehow” I mean people with less than 6 month experience but with some basic knowledge of SQL Server engine) or are catching up from SQL Server 2000. The common question regards the session one should not miss to have a broad view of the entire SQL Server platform have some insight into some specific areas of SQL Server Given that I’m on (semi-)vacantion and that I have more free time (not true, I have to prepare slides & demos for several conferences, PASS Summit  - Building the Agile Data Warehouse with SQL Server 2012 - and PASS 24H - Agile Data Warehousing with SQL Server 2012 - among them…but let’s pretend it to be true), I’ve decided to make a post to answer to this common questions. Of course this is my personal point of view and given the fact that the number and quality of session that will be delivered at PASS Summit is so high that is very difficoult to make a choice, fell free to jump into the discussion and leave your feedback or – even better – answer with another post. I’m sure it will be very helpful to all the SQL Server beginners out there. I’ve imposed to myself to choose 6 session at maximum for each Track. Why 6? Because it’s the maximum number of session you can follow in one day, and given that all the session will be on the Summit DVD, they are the answer to the following question: “If I have one day to spend in training, which session I should watch?”. Of course a Summit is not like a Course so a lot of very basics concept of well-established technologies won’t be found here. Analysis Services, Integration Services, MDX are not part of the Summit this time (at least for the basic part of them). Enough with that, let’s start with the session list ideal to have a good Overview of all the SQL Server Platform: Geospatial Data Types in SQL Server 2012 Inside Unstructured Data: SQL Server 2012 FileTable and Semantic Search XQuery and XML in SQL Server: Common Problems and Best Practice Solutions Microsoft's Big Play for Big Data Dashboards: When to Choose Which MSBI Tool Microsoft BI End-User Tools 360° for what concern Database Development, I recommend the following sessions Understanding Transaction Isolation Levels What to Look for in Execution Plans Improve Query Performance by Fixing Bad Parameter Sniffing A Window into Your Data: Using SQL Window Functions Practical Uses and Optimization of New T-SQL Features in SQL Server 2012 Taking MERGE Beyond the Basics For Business Intelligence Information Delivery Analyzing SSAS Data with Excel Building Compelling Power View Reports Managed Self-Service BI PowerPivot 101  SharePoint for Business Intelligence The Best Microsoft BI Tools You've Never Heard Of and for Business Intelligence Architecture & Development BI Power Hour Building a Tabular Model Database Enterprise Information Management: Bringing Together SSIS, DQS, and MDS SSIS Design Patterns Storing Columnstore Indexes Hadoop and Its Ecosystem Components in Action Beside the listed sessions, First Timers should also take a look the the page PASS set up for them: http://www.sqlpass.org/summit/2012/Connect/FirstTimers.aspx See you at PASS Summit!
