    This is more of an algorithmic dilemma than a language-specific problem, but since I'm currently using Ruby I'll tag this as such. I've already spent over 20 hours on this and I would've never believed it if someone told me writing a LaTeX parser was a walk in the park in comparison.   • How do you build a Request-Response service using Asyncore in Python?

    I have a 3rd-party protocol module (SNMP) that is built on top of asyncore. The asyncore interface is used to process response messages. What is the proper technique to design a client that generate the request-side of the protocol, while the asyncore main loop is running. I can think of two options right now: Use the loop,timeout parameters of asyncore.loop() to allow my client program time to send the appropriate request. Create a client asyncore dispatcher that will be executed in the same asyncore processing loop as the receiver. What is the best option? I'm working on the 2nd solution, cause the protocol API does not give me direct access to the asyncore parameters. Please correct me if I've misunderstood the proper technique for utilizing asyncore.

  • Can I build this XPath query dynamically in XSLT?

    I have a document that looks something like <root> <element> <subelement1 /> <subelement2 /> </element> <element> <subelement2 /> <subelement1 /> </element> </root> In my XSLT sheet in the context of /element[2]/[someNode] I want to get a number that represents the distance of /element[1]/[someNode] (ie, the number of preceding siblings of /element1/[someNode]). For example, in the context of /element[2]/subelement1 I'd like to have some way to get the number 2, the distance from /element[1] to /element[1]/subelement2. I only ever need the distance of the given node name from the first instance of . Intuitively I thought I could construct this like <xsl:variable name="nodename" select="name()" /> <xsl:value-of select="/element[1]/$nodename/preceding-sibling::*" /> but unfortunately this sheet doesn't compile. Is what I'm trying to achieve possible in XSLT?

  • Android Eclipse test projects cannot be used with a project being built in an Android build tree

    An Android Java project placed in a git repository and built in an Android tree in /packages/apps needs to have the project files located at the root of the git repository. This is problematic for creating a complementary Test project, which should ideally be included in the same git repository so commits are atomic for both code and tests. Eclipse gets very unhappy if you include the Test project as a subdirectory. Is there an appropriate approach for dealing with this other than creating a second repository?

  • Is there good .sol editor for Flash Player 9 Local Shared Objects? Can we build one?

    There's plenty of them out there but none of them do what I would like them to do. Most of them crash when opening a file or simply corrupt the data. Many don't run at all. It seems to me that most were written 3-4 years ago for AS2 .sols and no longer work with FP9/AS3 sols. I'd attempt to write my own using AIR but I can't find a new spec of the byte format. There's an explanation of the file format here: http://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?docid=27026&group_id=131628 and another here: http://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?docid=27026&group_id=131628 but it looks as though both of these docs are a good 4 years old (pre-FP9) and as I'm not skilled or experienced in file formats, writing a new one, especially without an updated spec, is seeming like less and less of a viable option. Ideally I'd like one that can not only read the .sol, but edit and save new values also. Thanks!

  • What would cause native gem extensions on OS X to build but fail to load?

    I am having trouble with some of my rubygems, in particular those that use native extensions. I am on a MacBookPro, with Snow Leopard. I have XCode 3.2.1 installed, with gcc 4.2.1. Ruby 1.8.6, because I'm lazy and a scaredy cat and don't want to upgrade yet. Ruby is running in 32-bit mode. I built this ruby from scratch when my MBP ran OSX 10.4. When I require one of the affected gems in irb, I get a Load Error for the gem extension's bundle file. For example, here's nokogigi dissing me: > require 'rubygems' = true > require 'nokogiri' LoadError: Failed to load /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/nokogiri-1.4.1/lib/nokogiri/nokogiri.bundle This is also happening with the Postgres pg and MongoDB mongo gems. My first thought was that the extensions must not be building right. But gem install wasn't throwing any errors. So I reinstalled with the verbose flag, hoping to see some helpful warnings. I've put the output in a Pastie, and the only warning I see is a consistent one about "passing argument n of ‘foo’ with different width due to prototype." I suspect that this might be an issue from upgrading to Snow Leopard, but I'm a little surprised to experience it now, since I've updated my XCode. Could it stem from running Ruby in 1.8.6? I'm embarrassed that I don't know quite enough about my Mac and OSX to know where to look next, so any guidance, even just a pointer to some document I couldn't find via Google, would be most welcome.   • Debugging embedded Lua

    How do you debug lua code embedded in a c++ application? From what I gather, either I need to buy a special IDE and link in their special lua runtime (ugh). Or I need to build a debug console in to the game engine, using the lua debug API calls. I am leaning toward writing my own debug console, but it seems like a lot of work. Time that I could better spend polishing the other portions of the game.

  • Is it possible to build a WinForm app (or another type of .NET app) which allows me to interact with

    I'm learning Chinese at the moment and I have gotten my hand on a Chinese dictionary definition. Now I would like to make an interface. All I really want the application to do is when I point my mouse pointer over any text on the screen (in any window), it would identify the text I am pointing at and then display a small form over it, which would the chinese transaction. Is that possible to do? Can WinForms apps interact with windows outside of it's own application?

  • Checking that all libs and dlls are from the same build?

    I am developing a program in VS C++ 2008. Right now, I have a huge list of dll and lib dependencies and I am adding some more. I worry that when I need to update a dependency by building from source (where I have to manually replace built dlls and libs in the correct place), if I accidently forgot to replace something or vice versa, I may run into a compile and/or runtime problem. And finding which place goes wrong can be a bit difficult. So is there some sort of program or method out there that can suit this task to ease building a program with many updating dependencies?

    In lager.elr (the main module of https://github.com/basho/lager) there is no function with name "debug" but I have an application that call debug function from lager module like: lager:debug(Str, Args) I am beginner in Erlang but I know when we call a function from a module lile "mymodule:myfunction" there should be a function with name "myfunction" in file mymodule.erl but in this case when I search in lager.erl for function "debug" I can't find it.

    I'd like to have a dynamic messaging system in my C++ project, one where there is a fixed list of existing events, events can be triggered anywhere during runtime, and where you can subscribe callback functions to certain events. There should be an option for arguments passed around in those events. For example, one event might not need any arguments (EVENT_EXIT), and some may need multiple ones (EVENT_PLAYER_CHAT: Player object pointer, String with message) The first option for making this possible is allowing to pass a void pointer as argument to the event manager when triggering an event, and receiving it in the callback function. Although: I was told that void pointers are unsafe and I shouldn't use them. How can I keep (semi) dynamic argument types and counts for my events whilst not using void pointers?

    Lets say I have the following POJO: public class MyThing { private int myNumber; private String myData; //assume getter/setter methods } Is it now possible to extend this POJO as a JPA entity? @Entity @Table(name = "my_thing") public class MyThingEntity extends MyThing implements Serializable { @Column(name = "my_number") //????????? @Column(name = "my_data") //???????? } I want to keep the POJO separate from the JPA entity. The POJO lives in a different project and is often used without a persistence layer, my project wants to persist it in a database and do so without the overhead of mapping from a POJO to an entity and back. I understand that JPA entities are POJOs, but in order to use it I would have to include a library that implements javax.persistence and the other projects using the same base object have no use for a persistence layer. Is this possible? Is this a good idea?

    I'm writing a DLL that has function for getting Alfresco login ticket without using user password, using only a user principal name (UPN). I’m calling alfresco REST API service /wcservice. I use NTLM in Alfresco. I’m impersonating users using WindowsIdentity constructor as explained here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms998351.aspx#paght000023_impersonatingbyusingwindowsidentity. I checked and user is properly impersonated (I checked WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name property). After impersonating a user, I try to make HttpWebRequest and set its credentials with CredentialsCache.DefaultNetworkCredentials. I get the error: The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized. at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() When I use new NetworkCredential("username", "P@ssw0rd") to set request credentials, I get Alfresco login ticket (HttpStatusCode.OK, 200). Is there any way that I can get Alfresco login ticket without user password?   • How to build a function on the fly in java?

    I'm parsing a text file that is being mapped to some java code like such: public void eval(Node arg) { if(arg.data.equals("rand")) { moveRandomly(); } else if(arg.data.equals("home")) { goHome(); }//snip.. This is going to need to be re-evaluated about a thousand times and I'd rather not have to traverse the whole thing every time. Is there any way to make this traversal once and then have it be a function that is called every other time?

  • Can i use VS Setup Project to build a bootstrapper which can install correct platform version or are

    I'm building 2 different MSI with Visual Studio Setup Project. One for x86 and x64. But i couldn't find a way to combine both into one project so that the bootstrapper is installing the correct platform version. Is there a way to do so in VS Setup Project or are are there any free 3rd party tools i can use? I found dotnetinstaller, but i'm not sure if that is what i'm looking for.
