  • Zend Framework: Flash Messenger, add a message from the model

    Any idea on how best to add a message to flash messenger from the model? As FlashMessenger is an action helper, this seems not to be possible, so the obvious solution is to create an internal message object in the model, and return that to the controller from where you can use addMessage(). But if you want to return something else as well, this falls down. Another idea is an additional session namespace for these internal messages, which is then merged in with the Flash Messenger namespace messages at output time? Anyone have any thoughts or experience on this? Cheers.

    Let's say I have code that uses the Asynchronous Programming Model, i.e. it provides the following methods as a group which can be used synchronously or asynchronously: public MethodResult Operation(<method params>); public IAsyncResult BeginOperation(<method params>, AsyncCallback callback, object state); public MethodResult EndOperation(IAsyncResult ar); What I want to do is wrap this code with an additional layer that will transform it into the event-driven asynchronous model, like so: public void OperationAsync(<method params>); public event OperationCompletedEventHandler OperationCompleted; public delegate void OperationCompletedEventHandler(object sender, OperationCompletedEventArgs e); Does anyone have any guidance (or links to such guidance) on how to accomplish this?

  • Eclipselink read complex oject model in an ordered way

    Hi, I need to read a complex model in an ordered way with eclipselink. The order is mandantory because it is a huge database and I want to have an output of a small portion of the database in a jface tableview. Trying to reorder it in the loading/quering thread takes too long and ordering it in the LabelProvider blocks the UI thread too much time, so I thought if Eclipselink could be used that way, that the database will order it, it might give me the performance I need. In the table view the x-axis is more or less created with the query Query q = em.createQuery("SELECT m FROM Item m ORDER BY m.name ASC"); using the "name" attribute from the Item objects as label. Each cell has the value Things.getProperties().get[x].getValue() Unfortunately the list "properties" is not ordered, so the combination of cell value and x-axis column number (x) is not necessarily correct. Therefore I need to order the list "properties" in the same way as I ordered the labeling of the x-axis. And exactly this is the thing I dont know how it is done. So querying for the Thing objects should return the list "properties" "ORDER BY name ASC" but of the "Item"s objects. My ideas are something like having a query with two JOINs. Joing Things with Property and with Item but somehow I was unable to get it to work yet. Thank you for your help and your ideas to solve this riddle.

    Hi, Is there a way of getting the Action, and reading any attributes, during the model binding phase? The scenario is this: I've got a default model binder set-up for a certain data-type, but depending on how it's being used (which is controlled via an attribute on the action) I need to ignore a set of data. I can use the RouteData on the controller context and see the action name, which I can use to go get the data, but wondered if that information is already available. Additionally, if the action in question is an asynchronous one, they'd be more processing involved in looking it up...

    I have an after_find callback in a model, but I need to disable it in a particular controller action e.g. def index @people = People.find(:all) # do something here to disable after_find()? end def show @people = People.find(:all) # after_find() should still be called here! end What is the best way to do it? Can I pass something in to .find to disable all/particular callbacks? Can I somehow get the controller name in the model and not execute the callback based on the controller name (I don't like this)..? Help!

    Hi, I am trying to use an Entity Framework Model (in separate project) into an asp.net 4 MVC project (VS2010, C#) If I create the EF inside the MVC project I have no problems. I think I am missing some step. things done: 1. added reference to the EF class project 2. added connection string in MVC web.config 3. added reference to System.Data.Entity in both web.config and project references Now i can use the model only if I copy the .edmx file to the Models folder, but in this way the EF project is not external anymore. What am I missing? Thank you in advance.

  • Applying Domain Model on top of Linq2Sql entities

    I am trying to practice the model first approach and I am putting together a domain model. My requirement is pretty simple: UserSession can have multiple ShoppingCartItems. I should start off by saying that I am going to apply the domain model interfaces to Linq2Sql generated entities (using partial classes). My requirement translates into three database tables (UserSession, Product, ShoppingCartItem where ProductId and UserSessionId are foreign keys in the ShoppingCartItem table). Linq2Sql generates these entities for me. I know I shouldn't even be dealing with the database at this point but I think it is important to mention. The aggregate root is UserSession as a ShoppingCartItem can not exist without a UserSession but I am unclear on the rest. What about Product? It is defiently an entity but should it be associated to ShoppingCartItem?     Hi all I'm using an ADO.NET Entity Model which I'm trying to query using LINQ. The problem I'm having is that I can't specify the where clause as I'd like. For instance, consider the following query: AccountsDM db = new AccountsDM(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["PrimaryEF"].ConnectionString); var accounts = from a in db.Accounts select a; foreach (var account in accounts) { foreach (var ident in account.Identifiers) { if (ident.Identifier == identifier) { // ident.Identifier is what I'd like to be filtering in the WHERE clause below } } } Ideally, I'd like that to become: var accounts = from a in db.Accounts where a.Identifiers.Identifier == identifier select a; I'm guessing I've probably not set up my Entity Model correctly in VS2010.   • How to render a Partial from a Model in Rails 2.3.5

    I have a Rails 2.3.5 application and Im trying to render several Partials from within a Model (i know, i know -- im not supposed to). The reason im doing this is im integrating a Comet server (APE) into my Rails app and need to push updates out based on the Model's events (ex. after_create). I have tried doing this: ActionView::Base.new(Rails::Configuration.new.view_path).render(:partial => "pages/show", :locals => {:page => self}) Which allows me to render simple partials that don't user helpers, however if I try to user a link_to in my partial, i receive an error stating: undefined method `url_for' for nil:NilClass I've made sure that the object being passed into the "project_path(project)" is not nil. I've also tried including: include ActionView::Helpers::UrlHelper include ActionController::UrlWriter in the Module that contains the method that makes the above "render" call. Does anyone know how to work around this? Thanks

  • Can't set default value of string property to "" in the Xcode CoreData model designer

    I have an entity in my datamodel with a string property that is currently optional, and I'd like to convert this property to a required property with a default value of the empty string. As others have discovered, leaving the default value blank results in validation errors (since the designer interprets this as NULL), but trying '', "", or @"" as the default value results in those literal characters being interpreted as the default, rather than the empty zero-length string, as desired. I did find this thread on Google, however, apart from the solution being really ugly (model definition split between the .xcdatamodel and objc source), it also doesn't work for lightweight migrations because those migrations are done solely based on the .xcdatamodel files and the objc logic from your entity implementations isn't loaded. Is there any way to achieve this in the data model designer?

    I'm using cURL to test a RESTFul HTTP web service. The problem is I'm normally submitting a bunch of values normally like this: curl -d "firstname=bob&lastname=smith&age=25&from=kansas&someothermodelattr=val" -H "Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded" http://mysite/people.xml -i The problem with this is my controller will then have code like this: unless params[:firstname].nil? end unless params[:lastname].nil? end // FINALLY @person = People.new(params[:firstname], params[:lastname], params[:age], params[:from]) etc.. What's the best way to simplify this? My Person model has all the validations it needs. Is there a way (assuming the request has multi-model parameters) that I can just do: @person = People.new(params[:person]) and then the initializer can take care of the rest?

    I am trying to save a model with it's dependency models being saved. Model1 has_many :model2, :autosave => true Model2 belongs_to :model1 has_many :model3, :autosave => true Model3 belongs_to :model2 I want to save Model1, and have Model2 and 3 save as well. I tried this without and with the autosave feature. What winds up happening is Model1 is saved, Model2 is saved, Model3 is untouched. Is there a way to tell ActiveRecord that for this save I want to save the model and all child models all at once? As a side note, all 3 are just created and are not in the database. I cannot do .create on the models because I cannot save them until all validation passes and all business logic succeeds (has to be a transaction).

    It could be part of the model because it's part of the business logic of the game. It could be part of the controller because it could be seen as simulating player input, which would be considered part of the controller, right? Or would it? What about a normal enemy, like a goomba in Mario? UPDATE: Wow, that's really not the answer I was expecting. As far as I could tell, A.I. is an internal part of the autonomous game system, hence model. I'm still not convinced.

If I do this ModelBinders.Binders.Add(typeof(BaseContentObject), new BaseContentObjectCommonPropertiesBinder()); then when in controller action parameter of type Tab appears, custom model binder is not fired. It gets fired if I do this: ModelBinders.Binders.Add(typeof(Tab), new BaseContentObjectCommonPropertiesBinder()); But I don't want to go writing "n" number of Add statements in my global.asax.cs to associate all the derived classes with my custom model binder, do I? I don't know if I have any other option.

The referenced method "humanize" isn't used for anything I'm doing at the moment, but belongs to the Model because it's used in several other places. Of course, removing the method is not really an option right now, and the model contains several other methods as well so I assume if I just move the humanize method around, it will generate an error on the next one.     Hi all, I have an app where a 'user' belong to a 'client' or a 'vendor' (and client and vendor has_many users). In the admin namespace, I want to administer these users - so an admin would choose a client or a vendor, then nav to that client's or vendor's users. My question is, short of making the user model polymorphic, how could I model/route this? Here is what I have in terms of routing: map.namespace :admin do |admin| admin.resources :clients admin.resources :vendors end I know I could do something like: map.namespace :admin do |admin| admin.resources :clients do |client| client.resources :users admin.resources :vendors do |vendor| vendor.resources :users end end But the above would definitely need me to treat the User as polymorphic. I'm just wondering what you would recommend or what my options are. Thanks.

    Is there a way to fetch the model and the translations in one query when using globalize2? For example, having a model called Language which have two fields, code and name of which the second is translatable I do the following: en = Language.find_by_code("en") and it runs this query: SELECT SQL_NO_CACHE * FROM `languages` WHERE (`languages`.`code` = 'en') LIMIT 1 and when I do: en.name it runs: SELECT SQL_NO_CACHE * FROM `language_translations` WHERE (`language_translations`.language_id = 123 AND (`language_translations`.`locale` IN ('en','root'))) and if I do it again it'll re-run the query. Is there a way to fetch all the translated data in the first query? I've tried: en = Language.find_by_code("en", :joins => "JOIN language_translations ON language_translations.language_id = languages.id") but it made no difference. What Visual Studio 2005 Professional Projecttype is most suitable for this requirement and why?     I have simple form like this which accepts only two values string action and editText.Is there a way to enable Unobtrusive Client Validation on this without Data Annotations? Or do I have to accept model and use Data Annotations?
