• TableView on Tab Bar Application ? Application is crashing.

  Steps to reproduce: 1. Create a Tab Bar Application called "TestApp" 2. Add new file, a UIViewController subclass with a XIB user interface called "Table" 3. Open up MainWindows.xib, click on the Second tab bar item and in Inspector change the NIB Name from "SecondView" to "Table". Save and close. 4. Open up Table.xib and drag a TableView on top of the view. Now link the dataSource and delegate outlets of the TableView to the Table.xib File's Owner. 5. • Managing modes in Windows application working directly with SQL Server 2008

  Hi, I have a MS Access 97 application (but the question is general) working directly with SQL Server 2008 (without application server or anything). Numbers of users can be up to 1000. Windows Authentication is used. The question is: How to handle modes, so some users will be allowed to work in read-only mode some users won't have access to db for some time My versions: Using a table with a mode id for every group of users, that will work the same way. On Form Load application will query that table for mode id. Using trigger on the tables, that must work according to that mode. The trigger will query mode value and doesn't work if access is closed or it's in read-only mode I know it's not these are not the best solutions, that's why I'm asking for your advice. There's one more point. If the mode is changed to "access-is-closed" for a group of users, that group must not be able to query to DB starting that moment. With first solution I wrote it won't work, because user can be in application at that moment and no form load event will work. How can I do this? Is there any optimal solution? Thank you. Any help would be appreciated.

  WEB CONSOLEs in OIM 11gR2 ** In 11gR1 there were 3 Admin Web Consoles : ·         Self Service Console ·         Administration Console and ·         Advanced Administration Console accessible Whereas in OIM 11gR2 , Self Service and Administration Console have are now combined and now called as Identity Self Service Console http://host:port/identity  This console has 3 features in it for managing self profile (My Profile), Managing Requests like requesting for App Instances and Approving requests (Requests) and General Administration tasks of creating/managing users, roles, organization, attestation etc (Administration) ** In OIM 11gR2 – new console sysadmin has been added Administrators which includes some of the design console functions apart from general administrations features. http://host:port/sysadmin   Application Instances Application instance is the object that is to be provisioned to a user. Application Instances are checked out in the catalog and user can request for application instances via catalog. ·         In OIM 11gR2 resources and entitlements are bundled in Application Instance which user can select and request from catalog.  ·         Application instance is a combination of IT Resource and RO. So, you cannot create another App Instance with the same RO & IT Resource if it already exists for some other App Instance. One of these ( RO or IT Resource) must have a different name. ·         If you want that users of a particular Organization should be able to request for an Application instances through catalog then App Instances must be attached to that particular Organization. ·         Application instance can be associated with multiple organizations. ·         An application instance can also have entitlements associated with it. Entitlement can include Roles/Groups or Responsibility. ·         Application Instance are published to the catalog by a scheduled task “Catalog Synchronization Job” ·         Application Instance can have child/ parent application instance where child application instance inherits all attributes of parent application instance. Important point to remember with Application Instance If you delete the application Instance in OIM 11gR2 and create a new one with the same name, OIM will not allow doing so. It throws error saying Application Instance already exists with same Resource Object and IT resource. This is because there is still some reference that is not removed in OIM for deleted application Instance.  So to completely delete your application Instance from OIM, you must: 1. Delete the app Instance from sysadmin console. 2. Run the App Instance Post Delete Processing Job in Revoke/Delete mode. 3. Run the Catalog Synchronization job. Once done, you should be able to create a new App instance with the previous RO & IT Resouce name.   Catalog  Catalog allows users to request Roles, Application Instance, and Entitlements in an Application. Catalog Items – Roles, Application Instance and Entitlements that can be requested via catalog are called as catalog items. Detailed Information ( attributes of Catalog item)  Category – Each catalog item is associated with one and only one category. Catalog Administrators can provide a value for catalog item. ·         Tags – are search keywords helpful in searching Catalog. When users search the Catalog, the search is performed against the tags. To define a tag, go to Catalog->Search the resource-> select the resource-> update the tag field with custom search keyword. Tags are of three types: a) Auto-generated Tags: The Catalog synchronization process auto-tags the Catalog Item using the Item Type, Item Name and Item Display Name b) User-defined Tags: User-defined Tags are additional keywords entered by the Catalog Administrator. c) Arbitrary Tags: While defining a metadata if user has marked that metadata as searchable, then that will also be part of tags.   Sandbox  Sanbox is a new feature introduced in OIM11gR2. This serves as a temporary development environment for UI customizations so that they don’t affect other users before they are published and linked to existing OIM UI. All UI customizations should be done inside a sandbox, this ensures that your changes/modifications don’t affect other users until you have finalized the changes and customization is complete. Once UI customization is completed, the Sandbox must be published for the customizations to be merged into existing UI and available to other users. Creating and activating a sandbox is mandatory for customizing the UI by .Without an active sandbox, OIM does not allow to customize any page. a)      Before you perform any activity in OIM (like Create/Modify Forms, Custom Attribute, creating application instances, adding roles/attributes to catalog) you must create a Sand Box and activate it. b)      One can create multiple sandboxes in OIM but only one sandbox can be active at any given time. c)      You can export/import the sandbox to move the changes from one environment to the other. Creating Sandbox To create sandbox, login to identity manager self service (/identity) or System Administration (/sysadmin) and click on top right of link “Sandboxes” and then click on Create SandBox. Publishing Sandbox Before you publish a sandbox, it is recommended to backup MDS. Use /EM to backup MDS by following the steps below : Creating MDS Backup 1.      Login to Oracle Enterprise Manager as the administrator. 2.      On the landing page, click oracle.iam.console.identity.self-service.ear(V2.0). 3.      From the Application Deployment menu at the top, select MDS configuration. 4.      Under Export, select the Export metadata documents to an archive on the machine where this web browser is running option, and then click Export. All the metadata is exported in a ZIP file.   Creating Password Policy through Admin Console : In 11gR1 and previous versions password policies could be created & applied via OIM Design Console only. From OIM11gR2 onwards, Password Policies can be created and assigned using Admin Console as well.

  I've developed a couple of WebGL games, and am trying them out on Android. I found that they run very slowly on my tablet, however. For example, a game with 10 sprites or so runs as 5fps. I tried Chrome and CocoonJS, but they are comparably slow. I also tried other games, and even games with only 5 or so moving sprites are this slow. This seems inconsistent with reports from others, such as this benchmark. Typically, when people talk about HTML5 game performance, they mention well-known and higher-end phones and tables. While my 7" tablet is cheap (I believe it's a relabeled Allwinner tablet, apparently with the Mali 400 GPU), I found it generally has a good gaming performance. All the games I tried run smoothly. I also developed an OpenGL ES 2 demo with 200 shaded 3D objects, and it ran at 50fps. My suspicion is that many low-end and white-label devices may have unacceptable HTML5/WebGL support, which means there may be a large section of gamers you will not reach when you choose this as your platform. I've heard rumors about inconsistent performance of HTML5 and WebGL on different devices, but no clear picture emerges. I would like to hear if any of you have had similar experiences with HTML5 or WebGL, or whether I can find information about the percentage of devices I can expect to have decent performance.

• How to determine the end of list has been reached?

  I'm trying to animate my object according to a set of recorded values from kinect skeleton stream by saving the (x,y,z) stream from the skeletal data into a list and then set my objects x and y position from the x,y of the list. However, once the list end has been reached it starts to animate again from the start. I don't want that - I just want the model position to keep going in the positive X direction. Is there any way I can check if end of the list has been reached and to just update the model position in x direction? • How can one find software development work that involves directly the final end user?

  I've worked in software development for 15 years and, while there have been signficant personal achievements and a lot of experience, I've always felt detached from the man/woman-on-the-street, the every day person, how it affects their lives, in a number of ways: the technologies: embedded software, hidden away, stuff not seen by the everyday person. Or process technology supporting manufactured products the size of the systems, meaning many jobs, divided up, work is abstract, not one person can see the whole picture the organisations: large, with departments dealing with different areas, the software, the hardware, the marketing, the sales, the customer support the locations and hours: out-of-town business parks away from the rest of society, fixed locations, inflexible: 9-5 everyday This to me seems typical of the companies I worked for and see elsewhere. Granted, there are positives such as the technology itself and usually being among high calibre co-workers, but the above points frustrate me about the industry because they detach the work from its meaning. How can one: change these things in an existing job, or compensate for them? find other work that avoids these and connects with the final end user? Job designs tend to focus on the job content and technical requirements rather than how the job aims to fulfil end user needs, is meaningful.

And there is an application installed on device, configured to receive push messages on appropriate port. Everything works well on MDS simulator. But it's not working well in real environment: I have installed BES Express and register several devices. I can browse MDS url with appropriate port, so url is correct. • Problem with creation of scheduled task from IIS6 on SR2003

  Hi, I am writing a webapplication using .NET. The webapp creates scheduled tasks using the System.Diagnostics.Process class, calling SCHTASKS.EXE with parameters. I have changed the identity on the app pool, to a specific domain user. The domain-user is local administrator on all the four webservers. From webserver01 I am creating tasks on webserver01 to webserver04. It works perfect for 3-5 days, but then it breaks. It gives me the following errormessage in a messagebox: "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application." If I have the system in the broken state, and I change the identity of the app pool to Domain administrator, it works. As I change it back to my domain-user, it breaks again. If I reboot the server, it works again for the same amount of days, but will break again. It seems like a permission-related problem. • Error while Installing Android app on Android virtual device

  Hi. I have created a small and simple android app. I tried installing it on an actual android device. But because it won't install, I created an AVD resembling my phone. I tried copying and installing app on that AVD and it still says that error. "Application xxx could not be installed on this phone". Before I tried installing my app on the phone or AVD I following steps: 1. Exported an unsigned copy of application onto my hard-drive. 2. User jarsigner to sign the app 3. Verified with jarsigner that my app is signed properly. 4. Used zipalign to optimize the app resources. I do not have an icon assigned to myapp but mandatory properties like version etc. have been specified properly. I had initially developed app using 2.1 version but because of compatability issues with my phone I reverted code to compile on 1.5 and it still doesn't get installed either on AVD or my phone. My AVD is on 2.1 though and code is compiled with 1.5. Is there a place where I can see the logs as to why app is not getting installed. It would be really helpful. Cheers

• Relay WCF Service

  This is more of an architectural and security question than anything else. I'm trying to determine if a suggested architecture is necessary. Let me explain my configuration. We have a standard DMZ established that essentially has two firewalls. One that's external facing and the other that connects to the internal LAN. The following describes where each application tier is currently running. Outside the firewall: Silverlight Application In the DMZ: WCF Service (Business Logic & Data Access Layer) Inside the LAN: Database I'm receiving input that the architecture is not correct. Specifically, it has been suggested that because "a web server is easily hacked" that we should place a relay server inside the DMZ that communicates with another WCF service inside the LAN which will then communicate with the database. The external firewall is currently configured to only allow port 443 (https) to the WCF service. The internal firewall is configured to allow SQL connections from the WCF service in the DMZ. Ignoring the obvious performance implications, I don't see the security benefit either. I'm going to reserve my judgement of this suggestion to avoid polluting the answers with my bias. • Getting Visual Studio macros in console app

  In a Visual Studio extension, you can get the default include paths for all projects with C# code like: String dirs = dte2.get_Properties("Projects", "VCDirectories"); where dte2 is the Visual Studio application object. Usually, those directories contain macros like $(INCLUDE). You can expand those macros by looking at dte2.Solution.Projects, finding the relevant project in that collection; from the project, look at project.Configurations, find the relevant configuration, and call its Evaluate method. In VS2005/VS2008, there's a .vssettings file that contains the VCDirectories. In VS2010, there's a property sheet with the same information. A console application can just parse those files -- great. But how can you expand the macros? As a first step, I tried instantiating a VCProjectEngine object in a console app, but that just resulted in a COM failure. So I don't know how to instantiate a VCProject object in order to follow the same strategy I used in a VS extension. Where are the macro bindings stored?

• Is there any framework for rich web clients on top of html/css?

  Some RAD tools like openobject use rich web clients. I.e. their client side code reside inside the browser and they talk to the server via xml-rpc or json-rpc only and change the view accordingly, all the javascript and css are transferred only once. Such rich web clients would increase the productivity in enterprise class web application that have lots of processes and forms etc. I would like to use such a rich web client inside my own application. I tried to search but found only openerp-web, which is tightly integrated to its server. Is there any other rich web client framework available? if not, is there any design detail I can look into to create my own? Thanks. Edit: Browser is a client which uses http and similar protocols to talks to web server which serve pages that the client displays. Rich web client is a client which sits on top of Browser which talks to the server, send data, receive data and information about How to update the view etc and do it. Similar to Vaadin, such rich web client will eliminate any code requirement on client side and and all the coding will be done on server side. Belows are such thin clients. pjax ( jquery ) vaadin ( java ) openobject web client ( python ) nagare ( python ) seaside ( smalltalk ) p4a ( php ) this are all such clients that once properly setup will allow to code on only on sever and still provide great ajax like experience.

• Looking for recommnedation on JavaScript libraries in the leage of ExtJS and Qooxdoo for serious web

  Hello. I'm looking for a JavaScript library for my web application. The application is very data intensive and has rich form controls (almost windows like). AJAX will be used liberally. The development platform is ASP.Net (mostly ASP.Net MVC will be used). I cannot pursue with ExtJs due to the price/license factor. I checked Qooxdoo but it is very windows-unfriendly. YIU fell short of my needs w.r.t. form controls it offers. Other libraries like jQuery do not offer rich form controls. So I am looking recommendations for a library that satisfies most of following needs: Rich UI controls Solid API for AJAX handling Employs good programming practices for scripting in frontend (preferably OO but not mandatory) Free. Else has only development cost and not production Windows friendly (or at least not unfriendly) Not monolithic. Should be independent (Not have development & production dependencies) Theme'ing should be easy (preferably wrapped by the library) I am not mentioning other basic needs (like browser compatibility). I hope any popular library will honor those.

• First run notepad with my.cfg and only then start the service

This is what I have and what happens; I have a drawing application and certain variables and properties need to be serialized. (So , Xml.Serialization has been used.) Now this has already been done in a huge portion and I've created some other attributes which needed to be serialized and it works. If I load my saved file it shows me the correct location and correct size of drawn objects. If I open my xml file I can see all values are correctly saved ( including my FontFamily ). Also the color which can be adjusted is saved and then properly displayed when I load a previously saved drawing. Of course because the coordinates work, if I insert a textField ,the location where it is being displayed is correct. However here comes the problem , my fontSize and fontfamily don't work. As you can see I created them in the base class, However this does not work. Is my approach completely off? What can I do ? Before saving img14.imageshack.us/i/beforeos.jpg/ After loading the Font jumps back to Sans serif and size 12. I could really use some help here.. Oh My! What is a lowly little Windows desktop application developer to do :(. I'm hoping to get a thread started with suggestions on how to deal with this Gui dilemma. First off, I'm on Delphi 7. a) Does Delphi 2010 bring anything new to the table to help with this situation? b) Should we pick an aftermarket component suite and rely on them to solve all these problems? c) Should we go with an aftermarket skinning engine? d) Perhaps a more html type gui is the way to go. Can we make a relatively complex gui app with html that doesn't require using a browser? (prefer to keep it form based) e) Should we just knuckle down and code through each one of these scenarios and quit bitching about it? f) And finally, how in the world are we supposed to test all these conditions? thanks, shawnH

  I have a web site running on IIS7 on a remote server. I would like to do the following: Create a new subfolder under the root virtual directory. Create a new app pool. Add this new app pool to the new subfolder Normally, I would do this manually in IIS by first creating the app pool, and then right-clicking the sub folder an choose "add application", but I need to do this programmatically in C#. I've managed to make the above points 1 and 2 work, but I can't find the way to adding the application to the sub folder. • Easy way to lock a file on a remote machine (windows)?

  I've tracked down an error in my logs, and am trying to reproduce it. My theory is that a file sometimes gets locked in a specific folder, and when the application (ASP.NET) tries to delete that folder it hangs. I don't have the application running on my own machine so I'm debugging this on a remote server. But for the life of me, I can't seem to figure out a way to lock a file that prevents it from being deleted by the process. My first thought was to map the network path to a local drive and just leave a command prompt open to that folder. Locally that always fouls up my folder deletes, but apparently SMB is a bit more robust and doesn't grant me a lock. After that I created an infinte loop vbscript in the folder and executed it remotely. The file was deleted out from underneath the executing code. Man! I then tried creating a file on the server in that folder and removing all permissions. That didn't do the trick. I don't have access to the IIS settings so perhaps it's running under a privileged system account. So: what's a program that you know is free and I can quickly use to create an exclusive lock on a file so I can test my delete theory? Like a really, really bad Notepad clone or something. :-)

• What is the best cross-platform language for desktop applications? (Java, Adobe Air, Flex, Silverlight??, Anything Else)

  My business partner needs a desktop application programmed, and it needs to be cross-platform as he wants Mac owners (OS X) to be able to run it as well. This, of course, is a bit of a problem for me as I program in PHP for my web projects and exclusively in C# (formerly used Visual Basic) for my desktop apps. I've been using (and love) NetBeans for my PHP stuff, and love Visual Studio just as much; they're both excellent IDEs. With this in mind, I'd like to find a language and IDE that's as similar to Visual Studio as possible (or at least something that makes development as easy as it does) for my cross-platform application development. In fact, if there is a language I can use with VS I'd be extremely happy. I realize that NetBeans has a Java Desktop App IDE, but have been having problems with it (my question in regards to that issue is here. I am also not sure that I really want to learn and use Java if there is a better, easier option out there. Obviously, the first language that came to mind that I can use cross-platform was Java, but I've also heard of people using Adobe Air, as well as Flex being used. I've never programmed in any of those languages, and as such have no frame of reference from which I can decide which would be best for me. I'm also not sure what other options there may be for me; perhaps there's another language I can use that'd be better than the three options I've already provided. (Can you make desktop apps with Silverlight? If so, did MS make an interpreter that will get them to work on OS X?) I like the syntax of C# quite a bit, and the Visual Studio IDE makes it extremely easy to make my apps with. As such, I'd like to find something that'll work as well for me with the cross-platform shatner as C# and its IDE does with my Windows apps. Thanks in advance for your help/opinions!

• What technologies/tools do people use to implement live websites ?

  Hi, I have the following situation: -I have a server A hooked up to a piece of hardware that sends values and information out of every second. Programs on the server machine can read these values. This server A is in a very remote location so Internet connection is very slow and not reliable but the connection does exist. Let's say it's a weather station in the Arctic. -Users from the home location want to monitorize the weather values somehow. Well, the users can use a remote desktop connection the server A but that would be too too slow. My idea is somehow to have a website on a web server (let's call the webserver - B and B is in a home location ) and make the server A connect to the server B and somehow send values and the web application reads the values and displays them....... but how to do such a system ?? I know I can use MySQL and have the server A connect to a SQL server on server B and send INSERT queries and have the web application running on server B constantly read from the SQL server but I think that would be way way too slow and I think there has to be a better solution. Any ideas ? BTW. The users should be able to send information to the weather station from the website as well ( so an ADMIN user should be allowed to shut down the weather station from the website or whatever) Best regards, MadSeb

• Weird behavior with windows startup C#

  Hi, I've created an application with the option to start on Windows startup. I did not manage to find out what was wrong, so I tried it differently: create a shortcut in the Startup folder. Couldn't go wrong I figured, I mean, it's just a shortcut right?
