ASP.net site looks completely different on IE, Firefox, and Chrome; why?

I'm doing css for a website. I send the html and css to a guy, he puts it into ASP.net. The problem is that the transfer didn't end well for my code and it needs some fixing. The problem is that when I look at it in Chrome, or Firefox, or IE8, I get three completely different renderings. I spent a good amount of time trying to fix a drop-down menu that is supposed to appear while hovering over a link. The one he had in place from ASP.net worked in IE, kinda worked in Firefox, and was completely broken in Chrome (I haven't tested Safari or Opera.) Just getting it to look basically the same in firefox and chrome was a struggle. The html source is showing me two completely different pages as well. Does anyone have experience with this? I know nothing of ASP.net, and it seems like the guy is modifying my layout with a wsyiwyg (I found tables used in random places, which I did not put there.) Faced with this, what is my best option? Is this fixable, or am I in over my head?

How to access a TextView element in a BroadcastReceiver

Hello, I am testing a simple widget in android and using Alarms to update a TextView at regular intervals. The problem is that in the BroadcastReceiver class I cannot access the TextView element, which I want to get updated when the alarm expires. The class is being called properly because the Toast i have put there is giving the appropriate message. The following code is from the class where I configure the widget and set the timers. public void onCreate(Bundle bundle) { super.onCreate(bundle); Intent intent = getIntent(); Bundle extras = intent.getExtras(); if(extras != null){ mWidgetId = extras.getInt(AppWidgetManager.EXTRA_APPWIDGET_ID, AppWidgetManager.INVALID_APPWIDGET_ID); AppWidgetManager appWidgetManager = AppWidgetManager.getInstance(WidgetConfigure.this); RemoteViews views = new RemoteViews(WidgetConfigure.this.getPackageName(), R.layout.widget_layout); views.setTextViewText(R.id.quote, "Widget Loaded From Activity"); appWidgetManager.updateAppWidget(mWidgetId, views); setTimer(); //set the timers... setResult();// set the result... } } Now i want to update the same TextView when the BroadCastReceiver is called after the timer expires. Why doesn't my text be bold when displaying on device screen

Floats being pushed down in IE8 but not IE7 or Firefox

The page in question is here: http://supportdogs.digitalportals.net/PhotoGallery/16-Events You can see in IE8 that the content is being pushed down under the sidebar. If you view it in IE8 compatibility mode, it doesn't happen, nor does it happen in Firefox. If you browse to a different page in IE8 the issue does not persist. How do I place widgets above and below a listview?

I have a list view and want to put stuff both above(on the y axis) and below(y axis) it including images, text views, and a row of buttons. Below is a simplified version of what I am creating. In a for loop, I create the layouts with their textViews, and set only the first one to be visible. The problem is that only one TextView seems to be displaying, ie. if everything but summary is deleted, then summary will display. As of right now, only title will display, because i'm assuming it's the first one. I'm most likely doing it wrong, so any help would be appreciated.

How do I constrain a container's height to the height of a specific content element?

I'm trying to do something which seems like it should be extremely simple and yet I can't see how. I have a very simple layout, a TextBox with an image next to it, similar to the way it might look adorned with an ErrorProvider in a WinForms application. The problem is, I want the image to be no higher than the TextBox it's next to. If I lay it out like this, say: <Grid> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto"/> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto"/> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <TextBox Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="0" MinWidth="100"/> <Image Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="1" Source="error.png" /> </Grid> the row will size to the height of the image if the image is taller than the TextBox. This also happens if I use a DockPanel or StackPanel. The naive solution would be to bind the Height to the TextBox's ActualHeight. I'm sure this is wrong. But what's right?

Use a table as container or not?

I have created my entire website by using a main table, and having the content inside the table. Some ppl suggest this is wrong, and I would like to know what to do specifically in my situation. On my index.html I have a <table align="center"> and then all content in it. Now the content is in form of DIVS and they all have relative positioning, so they are relative to the table. For example: <table align="center"> <tr> <td> <div style="position:relative; left:14px; top:50px;"> CONTENT HERE... (Form, divs, images) </div> </td> </tr> </table> I have just gotten to the stage of browser compatibility. Without making any changes whatsoever, my website works perfect in FF, SAFARI, Chrome and Opera. Only trouble with IE. So for my Q, if you where me, would you change my layout and remove the tables, and instead use alot more css and alot more DIVS, or would you go with what I have? And please if you answer me, don't just provide me with the answer, but also a "why" that is... in other words, give me arguments and facts... Thanks

Height:100% is not considered

Hi guys, I would want to simulate the behavior of a table with div. I have a struct of my layout divide into three columns: div#wrapper { width:800px; float:left; height:100%; margin-top:7px; text-align:center; } div#left { width:167px; float:left; padding-bottom:50px; margin-right:3px; } div#main { width:454px; float:left; } div#right { width:167px; float:left; margin-left:3px; } wrapper is the container of three columns left,main,right div "main" have a variable content so in some case is more long and in other case is very short. When the content vary,div wrapper is adapted and it's ok but left and right columns don't adapt to wrapper. P.S Without doctype there is no problem, infact I set the height of left, main and right to 100% but when I insert transional.dtd , the height of div is not considered. How can resolve this problem? Sorry for my english!!

I'm using semi-transparent PNGs (due to the designer's overlapping of elements) and trying to achieve a layout that represents the design while still working well on the web. Thus I have simple HTML: <div id="right"> <div id="welcome"></div> <div id="welcomeRepeatingBottom"></div> </div> And I'm trying to use CSS as follows: #right { height: 100%; position: absolute; right: 0px; top: 0px; width: 430px; } #welcome { background-image: url("welcome.png"); height: 614px; width: 430px; position: absolute; top: 0px; left: 0px; } #welcomeRepeatingBottom { background: url("welcomeBottom.png") repeat-y; height: 100%; left: 0px; position: absolute; top: 614px; width: 430px; } The problem is...the #welcomeRepeatingBottom div can't overlap the #welcome div because of the transparency. What I really want is the #welcomeRepeatingBottom div to be height: 100% - 614px, but of course you can't do that. Am I missing something here or do I need to manipulate these values with JavaScript/JQuery?

Coding a web browser on Windows using a layout engine?

I've never attempted anything like this before but what I want to do is code a browser for Windows. I know that I can use the web-browser control that Microsoft has released, but I'm interested in seeing how the problem is solved from a lower level. So I want to know what layout engine I should be looking at? Or is a layout engine the best way to go? I've been looking at WebKit, but it seems rather Mac-centric, so I'm wondering if there are any more practical one's for windows? Has Microsoft released the source code for their webbrowser winforms control in the .Net framework? That would be dependent on the CLR anyway, I suppose? Any suggestions?

After an upgrade, you always want to make sure that the compatibility options (which have much to do with how NULLs and other objects are treated) is at what you expect. For the most part, as long as the application can handle it, I set my compatibility levels to the latest version. For SQL Server 2008, that was “10.0” or “10”. You can do this with the ALTER DATABASE command or you can just right-click the database and select “Properties” and then “Database Options” in SQL Server Management Studio. To check the database compatibility level, I use this query: SELECT name, cmptlevel FROM sys.sysdatabases When I did that this morning I saw that the databases (all of them) were at 10.0 – not 10.5 like the Instance. That’s expected – we didn’t revise the database format up with the Instance for this particular release. Didn’t want to catch you by surprise on that. While your databases should be at the “proper” level for your situation, you can’t rely on the compatibility level to indicate the Instance level. When does a query/subquery return a NULL and when no value at all?

a) If a query/subquery doesn’t find any matching rows, then it either returns NULL or no value at all, thus not even a NULL value. Based on what criteria does a query/subquery return a NULL and when doesn’t it return any results, not even a NULL value? b) I assume a scalar subquery will always return NULL, when no matching rows are found? I assume most-outer scalar query also returns NULL if no rows are found? c) SELECT FirstName, LastName, YEAR(BirthDate) FROM Persons WHERE YEAR(BirthDate) IN (SELECT YearReleased FROM Albums); If subquery finds no results, is then a WHERE clause of an outer query translated into WHERE YEAR(BirthDate) IN (null); ? If instead WHERE clause is translated into WHERE YEAR(BirthDate) IN(); then shouldn’t that be an error condition, since how can YEAR(BirthDate) value be compared to nothing? thanx

finditem() doesn't find menu, stuck with NullPointerException

I'm stuck while changing some properties on my options menu at onCreateOptionsMenu(). It seems like findItem() returns null, even though I'm pretty sure that the reference to the menu item is correct. My code looks as follows: @Override public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) { getMenuInflater().inflate(R.menu.activity_profile, menu); MenuItem leftie = menu.findItem(R.id.menu_profile); leftie.setIcon(R.drawable.ic_menu_mapmode); leftie.setTitle(R.string.back_map); leftie.setIntent(authIntent); return true; } I really don't know what can be wrong there. check for null date in CASE statement, where have I gone wrong?

Hello, My source table looks like this Id StartDate 1 (null) 2 12/12/2009 3 10/10/2009 I want to create a select statement, that selects the above, but also has an additional column to display a varchar if the date is not null such as : Id StartDate StartDateStatus 1 (null) Awaiting 2 12/12/2009 Approved 3 10/10/2009 Approved I have the following in my select, but it doesn't seem to be working. All of the statuses are set to Approved even though the dates have some nulls select id, StartDate, CASE StartDate WHEN null THEN 'Awaiting' ELSE 'Approved' END AS StartDateStatus FROM myTable The results of my query look like : Id StartDate StartDateStatus 1 (null) Approved 2 12/12/2009 Approved 3 10/10/2009 Approved 4 (null) Approved 5 (null) Approved StartDate is a smalldatetime, is there some exception to how this should be treated? Qt: How to force a hidden widget to calculate its layout?

What I am trying to do is render a qwidget onto a different window (manually using a QPainter) I have a QWidget (w) with a layout and a bunch of child controls. w is hidden. Until w is shown, there is no layout calculations happening, which is expected. When I call w->render(painter, w->mapToGlobal(QPoint(0,0)), I get a bunch of controls all overlapping each other. w->layout()->activate();w->layout()->update() doesn't seem to do anything. Is there a way to force the layout to happen without showing w?

How to check null element if it is integer array in Java?

I'm quite new to Java and having an issue checking null element in integer array. I'm using Eclipse for editor and the line that checks null element is showing error: Line that complains: if(a[i] != null) { Error msg from Eclipse: The operator != is undefined for the argument type(s) int, null In PHP, this works without any problem but in Java it seems like I have to change the array type from integer to Object to make the line not complain (like below) Object[] a = new Object[3]; So my question is if I still want to declare as integer array and still want to check null, what is the syntax for it? Is there a software that reads the flv or ogg files and downloads the rest of the file from the specified url? Downloading several GBs all over again gains me nothing, just adds to Global warming. Also, what is a good download manager for Ubuntu. How can I have it take over some bulk downloads from Chrome?

Difference between adding MIME types in IIS via Websites vs Local Computer?

What is the difference between adding MIME types in these 2 different situations? When in IIS 6 manager... Right click on the computer name (local computer) properties mime types Right click on the "Web sites" folder properties http headers mime types I'm guessing that perhaps option 1 adds MIME types for FTP also? However if that were true i'd expect to be able to add MIME types specifically in the properties of FTP (and not just websites). thanks for your help.
