  • Import/commit to svn branch from a different codebase

    - by publicRavi
    I am trying to migrate to svn from a not-so-famous version control system (lets call it nsfvc). svn trunk was created some time ago from nsfvc's trunk. There is an active branch in nsfvc that I have to import to svn branch. The diff between nsfvc's trunk and branch is huge (updates, renames, additions, deletions, moves). How do I go about doing this? I am guessing it is not as simple as... svn co http://mysvn/repo/branches/branch c:\workspace # replace files in c:\workspace svn add svn ci

  • Cross version line matching.

    - by BCS
    I'm considering how to do automatic bug tracking and as part of that I'm wondering what is available to match source code line numbers (or more accurate numbers mapped from instruction pointers via something like addr2line) in one version of a program to the same line in another. (Assume everything is in some kind of source control and is available to my code) The simplest approach would be to use a diff tool/lib on the files and do some math on the line number spans, however this has some limitations: It doesn't handle cross file motion. It might not play well with lines that get changed It doesn't look at the information available in the intermediate versions. It provides no way to manually patch up lines when the diff tool gets things wrong. It's kinda clunky Before I start diving into developing something better: What already exists to do this? What features do similar system have that I've not thought of?

  • Do you leave historical code commented out in classes that you update?

    - by 18Rabbit
    When you need to obsolete a section of code (say either the business rules changed, or the old system has been reworked to use a new framework or something) do you delete it from the file or do you comment it out and then put in the new functionality? If you comment it out, do you leave a note stating why it was removed and what it was originally intended to do? I ask mainly because I've done a lot of contract work for different places over the years and sometimes it's like excavating a tomb to find the actual code that is still being used. Why comment it out and leave it in the file if source control has a record of what used to be there? If you comment out a method do you also comment out/delete any methods that were exclusively used by that method? What do you think the best practices for this should be?

  • How to control a spaceship near a planet in Unity3D?

    - by tyjkenn
    Right now I have spaceship orbiting a small planet. I'm trying to make an effective control system for that spaceship, but it always end up spinning out of control. After spinning the ship to change direction, the thrusters thrust the wrong way. Normal airplane controls don't work, since the ship is able to leave the atmosphere and go to other planets, in the journey going "upside-down". Could someone please enlighten me on how to get thrusters to work the way they are supposed to?

  • Why can Perforce be a better version control system? [closed]

    - by dukeofgaming
    I've seen some people love and some loathe Perforce. As users or administrators with experience with other version control systems (free cookie to the ones with DVCS experience [git, Mercurial]), what is the main reason/feature that makes you love Perforce over other version control systems? Edit: No, I don't sell Perforce... this is just part of my ongoing research to pitch DVCS at my company (see my question history)

  • Using bindings to control column order in a DataGrid

    - by DanM
    Problem I have a WPF Toolkit DataGrid, and I'd like to be able to switch among several preset column orders. This is an MVVM project, so the column orders are stored in a ViewModel. The problem is, I can't get bindings to work for the DisplayIndex property. No matter what I try, including the sweet method in this Josh Smith tutorial, I get: The DisplayIndex for the DataGridColumn with Header 'ID' is out of range. DisplayIndex must be greater than or equal to 0 and less than Columns.Count. Parameter name: displayIndex. Actual value was -1. Is there any workaround for this? I'm including my test code below. Please let me know if you see any problems with it. ViewModel code public class MainViewModel { public List<Plan> Plans { get; set; } public int IdDisplayIndex { get; set; } public int NameDisplayIndex { get; set; } public int DescriptionDisplayIndex { get; set; } public MainViewModel() { Initialize(); } private void Initialize() { IdDisplayIndex = 1; NameDisplayIndex = 2; DescriptionDisplayIndex = 0; Plans = new List<Plan> { new Plan { Id = 1, Name = "Primary", Description = "Likely to work." }, new Plan { Id = 2, Name = "Plan B", Description = "Backup plan." }, new Plan { Id = 3, Name = "Plan C", Description = "Last resort." } }; } } Plan Class public class Plan { public int Id { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public string Description { get; set; } } Window code - this uses Josh Smith's DataContextSpy <Window x:Class="WpfApplication1.MainWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:local="clr-namespace:WpfApplication1" xmlns:mwc="http://schemas.microsoft.com/wpf/2008/toolkit" Title="Main Window" Height="300" Width="300"> <Grid> <mwc:DataGrid ItemsSource="{Binding Plans}" AutoGenerateColumns="False"> <mwc:DataGrid.Resources> <local:DataContextSpy x:Key="spy" /> </mwc:DataGrid.Resources> <mwc:DataGrid.Columns> <mwc:DataGridTextColumn Header="ID" Binding="{Binding Id}" DisplayIndex="{Binding Source={StaticResource spy}, Path=DataContext.IdDisplayIndex}" /> <mwc:DataGridTextColumn Header="Name" Binding="{Binding Name}" DisplayIndex="{Binding Source={StaticResource spy}, Path=DataContext.NameDisplayIndex}" /> <mwc:DataGridTextColumn Header="Description" Binding="{Binding Description}" DisplayIndex="{Binding Source={StaticResource spy}, Path=DataContext.DescriptionDisplayIndex}" /> </mwc:DataGrid.Columns> </mwc:DataGrid> </Grid> </Window> Note: If I just use plain numbers for DisplayIndex, everything works fine, so the problem is definitely with the bindings. Update 5/1/2010 I was just doing a little maintenance on my project, and I noticed that when I ran it, the problem I discuss in this post had returned. I knew that it worked last time I ran it, so I eventually narrowed the problem down to the fact that I had installed a newer version of the WPF Toolkit (Feb '10). When I reverted to the June '09 version, everything worked fine again. So, I'm now doing something I should have done in this first place: I'm including the WPFToolkit.dll that works in my solution folder and checking it into version control. It's unfortunate, though, that the newer toolkit has a breaking change.

  • mediaelement.js control sizes are wrong when clip nested in a hidden element

    - by Martin Francis
    It's a nasty one this. In an audio control placed within a container element whose display property is initially set to none, the audio clip does NOT correctly size the progress bar when it is initialised. This is clear when the container's display property is changed from 'none' to '' (which is equivalent to 'static'). But who would ever do that? I make extensive use of 'tabbed' display arrangements on community sites like this one: http://www.churchesInBracebridge.ca Owing to the page arrangement, the audio controls which you see under 'sermons' (which at the time of writing still using Flash rather than John's excellent library here) are initially rendered in a div that is hidden. Simplified Test case Rather than have anyone have to wade through all of that, here's a much simplified test case: http://jsfiddle.net/sJL6T/36 Here's the full page source for those who'd prefer to work with it that way. <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"/> <title>MediaElementPlayer.js</title> <script type="text/javascript" src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.9.1/jquery.min.js"></script> <script src="http://mediaelementjs.com/js/mejs-2.13.1/mediaelement-and-player.js"></script> <link rel="stylesheet" href="http://mediaelementjs.com/js/mejs-2.13.1/mediaelementplayer.css" /> <script type="text/javascript"> function toggle(id){ document.getElementById(id).style.display= (document.getElementById(id).style.display=='none' ? '' : 'none'); } </script> </head> <body> <h1>MediaElementPlayer.js</h1> <h2 onclick="return toggle('test1')">Initially Hidden (Click to toggle)</h2> <div id='test1' style='display:none'> <audio controls="controls"> <source src="http://mediaelementjs.com/media/AirReview-Landmarks-02-ChasingCorporate.mp3" type="audio/mp3" /> </audio> </div> <h2 onclick="return toggle('test2')">Initially Shown (Click to toggle)</h2> <div id='test2' style=''> <audio controls="controls"> <source src="http://mediaelementjs.com/media/AirReview-Landmarks-02-ChasingCorporate.mp3" type="audio/mp3" /> </audio> </div> <script> $('audio').mediaelementplayer(); </script> </body> </html> Possible Workarounds Now I know that Google maps has the same quirk and there are two possible ways I've used to deal with that: Use absolute positioning in a displayed div to place the element 10,000px to the left then bring it onto the stage when we want to see it Have the map pane displayed when loading then hide it as soon as it's loaded (ugly I know, but it usually works) However either approach would be a pain to do, as I have a lot of legacy code using the simpler div hiding method. I know that JQuery can get the dimensions of an element event if it is hidden - someone thoughtfully fiddled that and it does work: http://jsfiddle.net/sJL6T/9 Perhaps it may be possible to modify the actual library to find correct dimensions, even if the container itself is hidden? That would be wonderful, if it can be done! Initial experiments on mediaelement-and-player.js code I found that when I provided a fixed value in the setControlsSize function for railWidth, I got consistent results with both controls in the test case above (and obviously I'm working with my own copy of the library to do that, not the one stored at mediaelementjs.com): // outer area rail.width(railWidth); Change to this: // outer area railWidth=216; rail.width(railWidth); Many thanks in anticipation! Here is my current code, but I feel I've done it wrong. import java.awt.BasicStroke; import java.awt.Color; import java.awt.Graphics; import java.awt.Graphics2D; import java.awt.LinearGradientPaint; import java.awt.Polygon; import java.awt.Stroke; import java.awt.geom.Point2D; import java.awt.geom.Rectangle2D; import javax.swing.JFrame; import javax.swing.JPanel; public class meter extends JFrame { Stroke drawingStroke = new BasicStroke(2); Rectangle2D rect = new Rectangle2D.Double(105, 50, 40, 200); Double meterPercent = new Double(0.57); public meter() { setTitle("Meter"); setLayout(null); setSize(300, 300); setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); setLocationRelativeTo(null); setVisible(true); } public void paint(Graphics g) { // Paint Meter Graphics2D g1 = (Graphics2D) g; g1.setStroke(drawingStroke); g1.draw(rect); // Set Meter Colors Point2D start = new Point2D.Float(0, 0); Point2D end = new Point2D.Float(0, this.getHeight()); float[] dist = { 0.1f, 0.5f, 0.9f }; Color[] colors = { Color.green, Color.yellow, Color.red }; LinearGradientPaint p = new LinearGradientPaint(start, end, dist, colors); g1.setPaint(p); g1.fill(rect); // Make a triangle - Arrow on Meter int[] x = new int[3]; int[] y = new int[3]; int n; // count of points // Set Points for Arrow Integer meterArrowHypotenuse = (int) rect.getX(); Integer meterArrowTip = (int) rect.getY() + (int) (rect.getHeight() * (1 - meterPercent)); x[0] = meterArrowHypotenuse - 25; x[1] = meterArrowHypotenuse - 25; x[2] = meterArrowHypotenuse - 5; y[0] = meterArrowTip - 20; // Top Left y[1] = meterArrowTip + 20; // Bottom Left y[2] = meterArrowTip; // Tip of Arrow n = 3; // Number of points, 3 because its a triangle // Draw Arrow Border Polygon myTriShadow = new Polygon(x, y, n); // a triangle g1.setPaint(Color.black); g1.fill(myTriShadow); // Set Points for Arrow Board x[0] = x[0] + 1; x[1] = x[1] + 1; x[2] = x[2] - 2; y[0] = y[0] + 3; y[1] = y[1] - 3; y[2] = y[2]; Robot robot = new Robot(); Color colorMeter = robot.getPixelColor(x[2]+10, y[2]); // Draw Arrow Polygon myTri = new Polygon(x, y, n); // a triangle Color colr = new Color(colorMeter.getRed(), colorMeter.getGreen(), colorMeter.getBlue()); g1.setPaint(colr); g1.fill(myTri); } public static void main(String[] args) { new meter(); } } Thanks for looking.

  • use .net webbrowser control by multithread, throw "EXCEPTION code=ACCESS_VIOLATION"

    - by user1507827
    i want to make a console program to monitor a webpage's htmlsourcecode, because some of the page content are created by some javescript, so i have to use webbrowser control. like : View Generated Source (After AJAX/JavaScript) in C# my code is below: public class WebProcessor { public string GeneratedSource; public string URL ; public DateTime beginTime; public DateTime endTime; public object GetGeneratedHTML(object url) { URL = url.ToString(); try { Thread[] t = new Thread[10]; for (int i = 0; i < 10; i++) { t[i] = new Thread(new ThreadStart(WebBrowserThread)); t[i].SetApartmentState(ApartmentState.STA); t[i].Name = "Thread" + i.ToString(); t[i].Start(); //t[i].Join(); } } catch (Exception ex) { Console.WriteLine(ex.ToString()); } return GeneratedSource; } private void WebBrowserThread() { WebBrowser wb = new WebBrowser(); wb.ScriptErrorsSuppressed = true; wb.DocumentCompleted += new WebBrowserDocumentCompletedEventHandler( wb_DocumentCompleted); while(true ) { beginTime = DateTime.Now; wb.Navigate(URL); while (wb.ReadyState != WebBrowserReadyState.Complete) { Thread.Sleep(new Random().Next(10,100)); Application.DoEvents(); } } //wb.Dispose(); } private void wb_DocumentCompleted(object sender, WebBrowserDocumentCompletedEventArgs e) { WebBrowser wb = (WebBrowser)sender; if (wb.ReadyState == WebBrowserReadyState.Complete) { GeneratedSource= wb.Document.Body.InnerHtml; endTime = DateTime.Now; Console.WriteLine("WebBrowser " + (endTime-beginTime).Milliseconds + Thread.CurrentThread.Name + wb.Document.Title); } } } when it run, after a while (20-50 times), it throw the exception like this EXCEPTION code=ACCESS_VIOLATION (null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(nul l)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(n ull)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null) (null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(null)(nul l)(null)BACKTRACE: 33 stack frames: #0 0x083dba8db0 at MatchExactGetIDsOfNames in mshtml.dll #1 0x0879f9b837 at StrongNameErrorInfo in mscorwks.dll #2 0x0879f9b8e3 at StrongNameErrorInfo in mscorwks.dll #3 0x0879f9b93a at StrongNameErrorInfo in mscorwks.dll #4 0x0879f9b9e0 at StrongNameErrorInfo in mscorwks.dll #5 0x0879f9b677 at StrongNameErrorInfo in mscorwks.dll #6 0x0879f9b785 at StrongNameErrorInfo in mscorwks.dll #7 0x0879f192a8 at InstallCustomModule in mscorwks.dll #8 0x0879f19444 at InstallCustomModule in mscorwks.dll #9 0x0879f194ab at InstallCustomModule in mscorwks.dll #10 0x0879fa6491 at StrongNameErrorInfo in mscorwks.dll #11 0x0879f44bcf at DllGetClassObjectInternal in mscorwks.dll #12 0x089bbafa at in #13 0x087b18cc10 at in System.Windows.Forms.ni.dll #14 0x087b91f4c1 at in System.Windows.Forms.ni.dll #15 0x08d00669 at in #16 0x08792d6e46 at in mscorlib.ni.dll #17 0x08792e02cf at in mscorlib.ni.dll #18 0x08792d6dc4 at in mscorlib.ni.dll #19 0x0879e71b4c at in mscorwks.dll #20 0x0879e896ce at in mscorwks.dll #21 0x0879e96ea9 at CoUninitializeEE in mscorwks.dll #22 0x0879e96edc at CoUninitializeEE in mscorwks.dll #23 0x0879e96efa at CoUninitializeEE in mscorwks.dll #24 0x0879f88357 at GetPrivateContextsPerfCounters in mscorwks.dll #25 0x0879e9cc8f at CoUninitializeEE in mscorwks.dll #26 0x0879e9cc2b at CoUninitializeEE in mscorwks.dll #27 0x0879e9cb51 at CoUninitializeEE in mscorwks.dll #28 0x0879e9ccdd at CoUninitializeEE in mscorwks.dll #29 0x0879f88128 at GetPrivateContextsPerfCounters in mscorwks.dll #30 0x0879f88202 at GetPrivateContextsPerfCounters in mscorwks.dll #31 0x0879f0e255 at InstallCustomModule in mscorwks.dll #32 0x087c80b729 at GetModuleFileNameA in KERNEL32.dll i have try lots of methods to solve the problem, finally, i found that if i thread sleep more millseconds, it will run for a longer time, but the exception is still throw. hope somebody give me the answer of how to slove ... thanks very much !!!

  • How to draw complex shape from code behind for custom control in resource dictionary

    - by HopelessCoder
    Hi I am new to wpf and am having a problem which may or may not be trivial. I have defined a custom control as follows in the resource dictionary: <ResourceDictionary x:Class="SyringeSlider.Themes.Generic" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:local="clr-namespace:SyringeSlider"> <Style TargetType="{x:Type local:CustomControl1}"> <Setter Property="Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type local:CustomControl1}"> <Border Background="{TemplateBinding Background}" BorderBrush="{TemplateBinding BorderBrush}" BorderThickness="{TemplateBinding BorderThickness}"> <Canvas Height="{TemplateBinding Height}" Width="{TemplateBinding Width}" Name="syringeCanvas"> </Canvas> </Border> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> </ResourceDictionary> Unfortunately I cannot go beyond this because I would like to draw a geometry onto the canvas consisting of a set of multiple line geometries whose dimensions are calculated as a function of the space available in the canvas. I believe that I need a code behind method to do this, but have not been able to determine how to link the xaml definition to a code behind method. Note that I have set up a class x:Class="SyringeSlider.Themes.Generic" for specifically this purpose, but can't figure out which Canvas property to link the drawing method to. My drawing method looks like this private void CalculateSyringe() { int adjHeight = (int) Height - 1; int adjWidth = (int) Width - 1; // Calculate some very useful values based on the chart above. int borderOffset = (int)Math.Floor(m_borderWidth / 2.0f); int flangeLength = (int)(adjHeight * .05f); int barrelLeftCol = (int)(adjWidth * .10f); int barrelLength = (int)(adjHeight * .80); int barrelRightCol = adjWidth - barrelLeftCol; int coneLength = (int)(adjHeight * .10); int tipLeftCol = (int)(adjWidth * .45); int tipRightCol = adjWidth - tipLeftCol; int tipBotCol = adjWidth - borderOffset; Path mySyringePath = new Path(); PathGeometry mySyringeGeometry = new PathGeometry(); PathFigure mySyringeFigure = new PathFigure(); mySyringeFigure.StartPoint = new Point(0, 0); Point pointA = new Point(0, flangeLength); mySyringeFigure.Segments.Add(new LineSegment(pointA, true)); Point pointB = new Point(); pointB.Y = pointA.Y + barrelLength; pointB.X = 0; mySyringeFigure.Segments.Add(new LineSegment(pointB, true)); // You get the idea....Add more points in this way mySyringeGeometry.Figures.Add(mySyringeFigure); mySyringePath.Data = mySyringeGeometry; } SO my question is: 1) Does what I am trying to do make any sense? 2) Can a use a canvas for this purpose? If not, what are my other options? Thanks!

  • Control XML serialization of Dictionary<K, T>

    - by Luca
    I'm investigating about XML serialization, and since I use lot of dictionary, I would like to serialize them as well. I found the following solution for that (I'm quite proud of it! :) ). [XmlInclude(typeof(Foo))] public class XmlDictionary<TKey, TValue> { /// <summary> /// Key/value pair. /// </summary> public struct DictionaryItem { /// <summary> /// Dictionary item key. /// </summary> public TKey Key; /// <summary> /// Dictionary item value. /// </summary> public TValue Value; } /// <summary> /// Dictionary items. /// </summary> public DictionaryItem[] Items { get { List<DictionaryItem> items = new List<DictionaryItem>(ItemsDictionary.Count); foreach (KeyValuePair<TKey, TValue> pair in ItemsDictionary) { DictionaryItem item; item.Key = pair.Key; item.Value = pair.Value; items.Add(item); } return (items.ToArray()); } set { ItemsDictionary = new Dictionary<TKey,TValue>(); foreach (DictionaryItem item in value) ItemsDictionary.Add(item.Key, item.Value); } } /// <summary> /// Indexer base on dictionary key. /// </summary> /// <param name="key"></param> /// <returns></returns> public TValue this[TKey key] { get { return (ItemsDictionary[key]); } set { Debug.Assert(value != null); ItemsDictionary[key] = value; } } /// <summary> /// Delegate for get key from a dictionary value. /// </summary> /// <param name="value"></param> /// <returns></returns> public delegate TKey GetItemKeyDelegate(TValue value); /// <summary> /// Add a range of values automatically determining the associated keys. /// </summary> /// <param name="values"></param> /// <param name="keygen"></param> public void AddRange(IEnumerable<TValue> values, GetItemKeyDelegate keygen) { foreach (TValue v in values) ItemsDictionary.Add(keygen(v), v); } /// <summary> /// Items dictionary. /// </summary> [XmlIgnore] public Dictionary<TKey, TValue> ItemsDictionary = new Dictionary<TKey,TValue>(); } The classes deriving from this class are serialized in the following way: <FooDictionary xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> <Items> <DictionaryItemOfInt32Foo> <Key/> <Value/> </DictionaryItemOfInt32XmlProcess> <Items> This give me a good solution, but: How can I control the name of the element DictionaryItemOfInt32Foo What happens if I define a Dictionary<FooInt32, Int32> and I have the classes Foo and FooInt32?   • WPF Lookless Control Events

    - by Scott
    I have the following class: public class LooklessControl : Control { public List<int> IntList { get; private set; } public int CurrentInt { get; private set; } private int _index = 0; static LooklessControl() { DefaultStyleKeyProperty.OverrideMetadata(typeof(LooklessControl), new FrameworkPropertyMetadata(typeof(LooklessControl))); } public LooklessControl() { IntList = new List<int>(); for (int i = 0; i < 10; i++) { IntList.Add(i); } CurrentInt = IntList[_index]; } public static readonly RoutedCommand NextItemCommand = new RoutedCommand("NextItemCommand", typeof(LooklessControl)); private void ExecutedNextItemCommand(object sender, ExecutedRoutedEventArgs e) { NextItemHandler(); } private void CanExecuteNextItemCommand(object sender, CanExecuteRoutedEventArgs e) { e.CanExecute = true; } public static readonly RoutedCommand PrevItemCommand = new RoutedCommand("PrevItemCommand", typeof(LooklessControl)); private void ExecutedPrevItemCommand(ExecutedRoutedEventArgs e) { PrevItemHandler(); } private void CanExecutePrevItemCommand(object sender, CanExecuteRoutedEventArgs e) { e.CanExecute = true; } public static readonly RoutedEvent NextItemEvent = EventManager.RegisterRoutedEvent("NextItemEvent", RoutingStrategy.Bubble, typeof(RoutedEventHandler), typeof(LooklessControl)); public event RoutedEventHandler NextItem { add { AddHandler(NextItemEvent, value); } remove { RemoveHandler(NextItemEvent, value); } } private void RaiseNextItemEvent() { RoutedEventArgs args = new RoutedEventArgs(LooklessControl.NextItemEvent); RaiseEvent(args); } public static readonly RoutedEvent PrevItemEvent = EventManager.RegisterRoutedEvent("PrevItemEvent", RoutingStrategy.Bubble, typeof(RoutedEventHandler), typeof(LooklessControl)); public event RoutedEventHandler PrevItem { add { AddHandler(PrevItemEvent, value); } remove { RemoveHandler(PrevItemEvent, value); } } private void RaisePrevItemEvent() { RoutedEventArgs args = new RoutedEventArgs(LooklessControl.PrevItemEvent); RaiseEvent(args); } private void NextItemHandler() { _index++; if (_index == IntList.Count) { _index = 0; } CurrentInt = IntList[_index]; RaiseNextItemEvent(); } private void PrevItemHandler() { _index--; if (_index == 0) { _index = IntList.Count - 1; } CurrentInt = IntList[_index]; RaisePrevItemEvent(); } } The class has a default style, in Generic.xaml, that looks like this: <Style x:Key="{x:Type local:LooklessControl}" TargetType="{x:Type local:LooklessControl}"> <Setter Property="Height" Value="200"/> <Setter Property="Width" Value="90"/> <Setter Property="Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type local:LooklessControl}"> <Border BorderBrush="Black" BorderThickness="1" Padding="2"> <Grid> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="20"/> <RowDefinition Height="*"/> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <Rectangle Grid.Row="0" Fill="LightGray"/> <Rectangle Grid.Row="1" Fill="Gainsboro"/> <Grid Grid.Row="0"> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="10"/> <ColumnDefinition Width="*"/> <ColumnDefinition Width="10"/> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Path Grid.Column="0" x:Name="pathLeftArrow" Data="M0,0.5 L1,1 1,0Z" Width="6" Height="14" Stretch="Fill" HorizontalAlignment="Center" Fill="SlateBlue"/> <TextBlock Grid.Column="1" Name="textBlock" Text="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent}, Path=CurrentInt}" HorizontalAlignment="Center" VerticalAlignment="Center" FontFamily="Junction" FontSize="13"/> <Path Grid.Column="2" x:Name="pathRightArrow" Data="M0,0 L1,0.5 0,1Z" Width="6" Height="14" Stretch="Fill" HorizontalAlignment="Center" Fill="SlateBlue"/> </Grid> <ListBox Grid.Row="1" HorizontalContentAlignment="Center" VerticalContentAlignment="Center" Background="Transparent" ItemsSource="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent}, Path=IntList}"/> </Grid> </Border> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> How do I make it so that when the user clicks on pathLeftArrow it fires LooklessControl.PrevItemCommand, or or they click on pathRightArrow and it fires LooklessControl.NextItemCommand, or they click on an item in the ListBox and LooklessControl is notified of the newly selected item? In other words, without adding x:Class to the top of Generic.xaml and thus creating a code-behind file for it, which I assume you wouldn't want to do, how do you handle events for elements in your xaml that don't have a Command property (which is just about everything other than a Button)? Should LooklessControl have it's own XAML file (much like what you get when you create a new UserControl) associated with it that Generic.xaml just pulls in as a MergedDictionar as its default template? Or is there some other acknowledged way to do what I'm trying to do?

  • Two-way databinding of a custom templated asp.net control

    - by Jason
    I hate long code snippets and I'm sorry about this one, but it turns out that this asp.net stuff can't get much shorter and it's so specific that I haven't been able to generalize it without a full code listing. I just want simple two-way, declarative, edit-only databinding to a single instance of an object. Not a list of objects of a type with a bunch of NotImplementedExceptions for Add, Delete, and Select, but just a single view-state persisted object. This is certainly something that can be done but I've struggled with an implementation for years. This newest, closest implementation was inspired by this article from 4-Guys-From-Rolla. Unfortunately, after implementing, I'm getting the following error and I don't know what I'm missing: System.InvalidOperationException: Databinding methods such as Eval(), XPath(), and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control. If I don't use Bind(), and only use Eval() functionality, it works. In that way, the error is especially confusing. Update: Actually, using Eval() does NOT work, but using <%# Container.SampleString %> works. However, Eval("SampleString") gives the same error. That leads me back to this article I found earlier but had discarded. Now I believe it might be related, though I haven't cracked it yet ... Here's the simplified codeset that still produces the error: using System.ComponentModel; namespace System.Web.UI.WebControls.Special { public class SampleFormData { public string SampleString = "Sample String Data"; public int SampleInt = -1; } [ToolboxItem(false)] public class SampleSpecificFormDataContainer : DataBoundControl, INamingContainer { SampleSpecificEntryForm entryForm; internal SampleSpecificEntryForm EntryForm { get { return entryForm; } } [Bindable(true), Category("Data")] public string SampleString { get { return entryForm.FormData.SampleString; } set { entryForm.FormData.SampleString = value; } } [Bindable(true), Category("Data")] public int SampleInt { get { return entryForm.FormData.SampleInt; } set { entryForm.FormData.SampleInt = value; } } internal SampleSpecificFormDataContainer(SampleSpecificEntryForm entryForm) { this.entryForm = entryForm; } } public class SampleSpecificEntryForm : WebControl, INamingContainer { #region Template private IBindableTemplate formTemplate = null; [Browsable(false), DefaultValue(null), TemplateContainer(typeof(SampleSpecificFormDataContainer), ComponentModel.BindingDirection.TwoWay), PersistenceMode(PersistenceMode.InnerProperty)] public virtual IBindableTemplate FormTemplate { get { return formTemplate; } set { formTemplate = value; } } #endregion #region Viewstate SampleFormData FormDataVS { get { return (ViewState["FormData"] as SampleFormData) ?? new SampleFormData(); } set { ViewState["FormData"] = value; SaveViewState(); } } #endregion public override ControlCollection Controls { get { EnsureChildControls(); return base.Controls; } } private SampleSpecificFormDataContainer formDataContainer = null; [Browsable(false), DesignerSerializationVisibility(DesignerSerializationVisibility.Hidden)] public SampleSpecificFormDataContainer FormDataContainer { get { EnsureChildControls(); return formDataContainer; } } [Bindable(true), Browsable(false)] public SampleFormData FormData { get { return FormDataVS; } set { FormDataVS = value; } } protected override void CreateChildControls() { if (!this.ChildControlsCreated) { Controls.Clear(); formDataContainer = new SampleSpecificFormDataContainer(this); Controls.Add(formDataContainer); FormTemplate.InstantiateIn(formDataContainer); this.ChildControlsCreated = true; } } public override void DataBind() { CreateChildControls(); base.DataBind(); } } } With an ASP.NET page the following: <%@ Page Title="Home Page" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Site.master" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="Default2.aspx.cs" Inherits="EntryFormTest._Default2" EnableEventValidation="false" %> <%@ Register Assembly="EntryForm" Namespace="System.Web.UI.WebControls.Special" TagPrefix="cc1" %> <asp:Content ID="HeaderContent" runat="server" ContentPlaceHolderID="HeadContent"> </asp:Content> <asp:Content ID="BodyContent" runat="server" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent"> <h2> Welcome to ASP.NET! </h2> <cc1:SampleSpecificEntryForm ID="EntryForm1" runat="server"> <FormTemplate> <asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("SampleString") %>'></asp:TextBox><br /> <h3>(<%# Container.SampleString %>)</h3><br /> <asp:Button ID="Button1" runat="server" Text="Button" /> </FormTemplate> </cc1:SampleSpecificEntryForm> </asp:Content> Default2.aspx.cs using System; namespace EntryFormTest { public partial class _Default2 : System.Web.UI.Page { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { EntryForm1.DataBind(); } } } Thanks for any help!

  • Why is giving a fixed width to a label an accepted behavior?

    - by kemp
    There are a lot of questions about formatting forms so that labels align, and almost all the answers which suggest a pure CSS solution (as opposed to using a table) provide a fixed width to the label element. But isn't this mixing content and presentation? In order to choose the right width you basically have to see how big your longest label is and try a pixel width value until "it fits". This means that if you change your labels you also have to change your CSS.

  • what's the right way to bind sqldatasource to asp:label in asp.net 4.0?

    - by cskilbeck
    Is it possible using Eval? If so, can someone post a short fragment to illustrate? My SqlDataSource returns 1 record with 3 fields, I'd like to Format these into a string. eg: Record Field 'Name' = 'Jack' Field 'Amount' = 100 Field 'Date' = 12.02.2010 asp:Label text should end up being: Welcome Jack, last payment was 100 on 12.02.2010 if another control than asp:Label is appropriate, that would be good to know also.

    how to implement a counter in label which decrements every time page is loaded in asp.net(vb)? It would be better if that counter value is accessed from and updated into database.. I've tried this on buttonclick but the value is reset automatically to intial value everytime as the button is insert and page is reloaded Protected Sub InsertButton_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Dim entries As Label = FindControl("label1") entries.Text = entries.Text - 1 End Sub
