  I would like to know if the following is possible: As part of the PageLoad of an ASP.Net page request: Use HttpWebRequest (POST) to make a request to a forms authentication webpage of a different web application Examine the response to see if the authentication succeeded (identifiable if an authentication cookie has been set) If it fails, then finish the ASP.Net page request, which will display a message saying "couldn't auto-login" or some such thing If success, then instead of completing the ASP.Net page lifecycle, use "Response.Write" to send the response from the HttpWebRequest back to the browser (thus essentially displaying the webpage from the HttpWebRequest) If the above is possible, then, is there also a way to transfer the authentication cookie from the HttpWebResponse to the requesting browser? My gut feeling is probably not - but if this is the case, then how do proxy servers handle such things? Is that not essentially what they are doing? Thanks for any help

• HTTP status code for "success with errors"?

  I've poked around a bit, but I don't see an HTTP status code for when a request's succeeds, but there is an error after the "point of no return". e.g., Say you process a request, its committed to the database, but while returning the result you run of memory, or encounter a NPE, or what have you. It would have been a 200 response, but now, internally, you aren't able to return the proper, well-formed response. 202 Accepted doesn't seem to fit since we've already processed the request. What status code means "Success, but errors"? Does one even exist?

• linq to sql datacontext for a web application

  Hello, I'm trying to use linq to sql for my project (very short deadline), and I'm kind of in a bind. I don't know the best way to have a data context handy per request thread. I want something like a singleton class from which all my repository classes can access the current data context. However, singleton class is static and is not thread-safe and therefore not suitable for web apps. I want something that would create a data context at the beginning of the request and dispose of it along with the request. Can anyone please share their solution to this problem? I've been searching for a solution and I've found a good post from Rick Strahl : http://www.west-wind.com/weblog/posts/246222.aspx but I don't completely understand his thread-safe or business object approach. If somebody has a simplified version of his thread-safe approach, i'd love to take a look.

This works as intended. My problem is that I now want to turn this single form into a formset. What I can't figure out is how I can pass the affiliate information to the individual forms when creating the formset. According to the docs to make a formset out of this I need to do something like this: ServiceFormSet = forms.formsets.formset_factory(ServiceForm, extra=3) And then I need to create it like this: formset = ServiceFormSet() Now how can I pass affiliate=request.affiliate to the individual forms this way?

  I have a textField on my stage named 'adBuy', which when clicked I want to open up my browser with the defined in URL request. However when I click on the 'adBuy' textField on my SWF it opens Coda, the piece of software I'm using to write this small piece of code? I am puzzled.   Hi I have a A.swf which loads B.swf onto a movieclip and needs to pass it some FlashVars. When loading B.swf with html, I can pass FlashVars fine. When passing from A.swf, it gets a Error #2044: Unhandled ioError:. text=Error #2032: Stream Error.   I'm planning a set up for a distributed application that spans serveral machines and will use WCF to send data in between. Machine A Front end website http://www.site.com Password protected site using Forms Authentication Machine B WCF Application Service http://service1.site.com/DoSomething.svc Machine C WCF Application Service http://service2.site.com/DoSomething.svc The WCF services on Machine B and Machine C should check that the request from Machine A has been authenticated. How can i check that the request is authenticated across the different machines? I only care that the request is authenticated and not concerned about securing the message body (because we are not sending any sensitive data across the wire), so SSL is not required. What authentication methods can i use for the above scenario?

• PHP set timeout for script, set_time_limit not working

  I have a command-line PHP script that runs a wget request using each member of an array with foreach. This wget request can sometimes take a long time so I want to be able to set a timeout for killing the script if it goes past 15 seconds for example. I have PHP safemode disabled and tried set_time_limit(15) early in the script, however it continues indefinitely. I've given up troubleshooting set_time_limit() and was trying to find other ways to kill the script after 15 seconds of execution. However, I'm not sure if it's possible to check the time a script has been running while it's in the middle of a wget request at the same time (a do while loop did not work). Thanks for any tips!

  Hello all, I need my linq to sql datacontext to be available across my business/data layer for all my repository objects to access. However since this is a web app, I want to create and destroy it per request. I'm wondering if having a singleton class that can lazily create and attach the datacontext to current HttpContext would work. My question is: would the datacontext get disposed automatically when the request ends? Below is the code for what I'm thinking.   I'm currently working on a website in PHP, and I'm wondering what the best practices/methods are to reduce the time requests take. I've build the site in a modular way, so a page would consist of a number of modules, and each of these would need to request information. For example, I have a cart module, that (if a cart is set) will fetch the cart with the id (stored in a session variable) from the database and return its contents. I have another module that lists categories and this needs to fetch the categories from the database. My system is built with models, and each model might also make a request, for example a category model will make a request to get products in that category.

  Most of the time I don't want to render a layout when the request comes from AJAX. To this end I've been writing render :layout => !request.xhr? frequently in my controller actions. How can I make this the default? When request are valid all is fine and the response is wellformed, but when the request is invalid (cause a invalid signature, failed check, or soapexception thrown), the web server isn't able to process the response to send to the client. The error in application event log is: An error occured processing an outgoing fault response. • NHibernate transaction management in ASP.NET MVC - how should it be done?

  I am writing a simple ASP.NET MVC using session per request and transaction per request patterns (custom HttpModule). It seems to work properly, but.. the performance is terrible (a simple page loads ~7 seconds). For every http request, graphical resources incuding (all images on the site) a transaction is created and that seems to delay the loading times (without the transactions loading times per one image are ~1-10 ms with transactions they are over 1 second). What is the proper way to manage transactions in ASP.NET MVC + NH stack? When i've put all transactions into my repository methods, for some obscure reasons I got 'implicit transactions' warning in NHProf (the SQL statements were executed outside transaction, even that in code session.Save()/Update()/etc methods were invoked within transaction 'using' scope and before transaction.Commit() call) BTW are implicit transactions really bad?

  I would like to try Haskell on a smallish project which should be well suited to it. I would like to use it as a backend to a small ajax application. Haskell backend should be able to do authentication (basic, form, whatever, ...), keep track of user session (not much data there except for username) and to dispatch request to handlers based on uri and request type. It should also be able to serialize response to both xml and json format, depending on request parameter. I suppose the handlers are ideally suited for Haskell, since the service is basically stateless, but I don't know where to start for the rest of the story. Searching hackage didn't give me much hints.

  Is there a way to use a LINQ expression to request a Count query from the Netflix oData service? The Netflix documentation shows that you can return counts by appending $count to a request for a collection, but a URL like this: http://netflix.cloudapp.net/Catalog/Genres/$count Is not generated from an expression like this: var count = (from g in catalog.Genres select g).Count(); The above code returns an error saying that the Count method is not supported. Is there a way to do this in LINQ, or do I just need to make WebClient request to get the value?

  Hi guys, I'm trying to build some jquery tabs based on the request (which is stored in a table). I have two pages sharing one .js file. One page is for the user to create the request, and the other is for the administrator to approve/deny the request. On the admin page, here is my javascript code: $(function() { GetRequest(); }); Which is just calling a function I have inside my .js file. All the code in the .js file is also wrapped in a '$(function(){ //...code here })'. The problem is the function isn't built yet when calling it from the page. Is there a way I can tell the page to wait until the script is complete?

• Will an Nginx as reverse proxy for Apache help on dynamic content only

  I am planning to move all my static content to a CDN so on my server I only have dynamic content left. I now have Nginx set up as reverse proxy to Apache. The static request that came in where directly delivered by Nginx without having to go to Apache. In this case Nginx handled a large portion of the request and I can clearly see the necessity of Nginx. Now that I moved all the static content to another domain, is there still a need to have nginx in front of Apache. Because now all the request are by default dynamic requests and all go to Apache. Are there any other benefits of having Nginx and Apache running for only dynamic content. My dynamic content is PHP/MySQL Edit: To be clear: I now have Nginx as a reverse proxy. It delivers static and dynamic content. But I am moving my static files to a CDN. Do I then still need Nginx on my domain.

• JMS have javax.jms.InvalidDestinationException when client stop working

  I use JMS for sending requests from a client to a server. My client sends a request to the server. While the server is working with my request, my client stops (network problem) before the server finishes. When the server is finished, it'll return to the client, but the server can't see the client which sent the request to server, at which point, the server will return an exception in log file. The exception is : javax.jms.InvalidDestinationException: Cannot publish to a deleted Destination: temp-queue://ID:PC0092-49463-1344231871819-0:0:9 [^] My question is: what do I need to do in this case? Can I catch or disable this exception? And how can I do it? (Sorry, If my english is not good.)

Will this process stay running/runnable on the CPU or will it get taken off the CPU and be notified to wake up and run again when there is IO to be read? If it stays on the CPU, what can be done to make it get off and be notified later?

From reading several resources I learned that you should create your own IPrinciple which holds this. But I don't want to trigger the database every authentication request.   I want to benchmark a new server using historical HTTP-request data. I have a textfile that contains one day's worth of real historical requests to a production server. What is the best tool for sending that list of requests on the server I'm testing? The tool I use should be able to configure the following: Number of threads making the requests Number of requests/second sent A list of request URLs to use when making the requests. Apache Bench seems like a close fit. However, Bench does not seem to be able to take in a list of request URLs as a parameter. What would you recommend?
