  • ViewController has wrong orientation after Landscape-only has been popped

    - by noroom
    In a navigation-based app, LandscapeViewController only supports landscape mode (all others support both modes). I also have a "loading screen" that advises the user to rotate the phone before continuing. This way I can make sure that when my landscape view loads, that it's in landscape mode. The problem comes when i rotate the phone to portrait mode while still showing LandscapeVC. I press the Back nagivation button to navigate up one level (to a VC that supports both landscape and portrait modes), but the upper level shows in landscape mode even though the phone is in portrait mode. I guess this is because when I left this view I was in portrait mode, I then rotated the phone while in another view, so this view has not received the notification. If I then proceed to rotate the phone to the other landscape mode (say the LandscapeVC was loaded on its right side, so I'd rotate the upper VC from portrait to the left landscape mode), it will update. My question is: how can I notify this upper view that the phone was rotated, so when the user goes up after putting the phone in portrait mode, the upper view shows correctly?

  • How common are "bandage" fixes?

    - by gablin
    Imagine the following scenario: You've detected that your (or someone else's) program has a bug - a function produces the wrong result when given a particular input. You examine the code and can't find anything wrong: it just seem to bog out when given this input. You can now do one of two things: you either examine the code further until you've found the actual cause; or you slap on a bandage by adding an if statement checking if the input is this particular input - if it is, return the expected value. To me, applying the bandage would be completely unacceptable. If the code is behaving unexpectingly on this input, what other input that you've missed will it react strangely to? It just doesn't seem like a fix at all - you're just shoveling the problem under the rug. As I wouldn't even consider doing this, I'm surprised at how often the professors and books keep reminding us about how applying "bandage" fixes is not a good idea. So this makes me wonder: just how common are these kinds of "fixes"?

  • What Apache/PHP configurations do you know and how good are they?

    - by FractalizeR
    Hello. I wanted to ask you about PHP/Apache configuration methods you know, their pros and cons. I will start myself: ---------------- PHP as Apache module---------------- Pros: good speed since you don't need to start exe every time especially in mpm-worker mode. You can also use various PHP accelerators in this mode like APC or eAccelerator. Cons: if you are running apache in mpm-worker mode, you may face stability issues because every glitch in any php script will lead to unstability to the whole thread pool of that apache process. Also in this mode all scripts are executed on behalf of apache user. This is bad for security. mpm-worker configuration requires PHP compiled in thread-safe mode. At least CentOS and RedHat default repositories doesn't have thread-safe PHP version so on these OSes you need to compile at least PHP yourself (there is a way to activate worker mpm on Apache). The use of thread-safe PHP binaries is considered experimental and unstable. Plus, many PHP extensions does not support thread-safe mode or were not well-tested in thread-safe mode. ---------------- PHP as CGI ---------------- This seems to be the slowest default configuration which seems to be a "con" itself ;) ---------------- PHP as CGI via mod_suphp ---------------- Pros: suphp allows you to execute php scipts on behalf of the script file owner. This way you can securely separate different sites on the same machine. Also, suphp allows to use different php.ini files per virtual host. Cons: PHP in CGI mode means less performance. In this mode you can't use php accelerators like APC because each time new process is spawned to handle script rendering the cache of previous process useless. BTW, do you know the way to apply some accelerator in this config? I heard something about using shm for php bytecode cache. Also, you cannot configure PHP via .htaccess files in this mode. You will need to install PECL htscanner for this if you need to set various per-script options via .htaccess (php_value / php_flag directives) ---------------- PHP as CGI via suexec ---------------- This configuration looks the same as with suphp, but I heard, that it's slower and less safe. Almost same pros and cons apply. ---------------- PHP as FastCGI ---------------- Pros: FastCGI standard allows single php process to handle several scripts before php process is killed. This way you gain performance since no need to spin up new php process for each script. You can also use PHP accelerators in this configuration (see cons section for comment). Also, FCGI almost like suphp also allows php processes to be executed on behalf of some user. mod_fcgid seems to have the most complete fcgi support and flexibility for apache. Cons: The use of php accelerator in fastcgi mode will lead to high memory consumption because each PHP process will have his own bytecode cache (unless there is some accelerator that can use shared memory for bytecode cache. Is there such?). FastCGI is also a little bit complex to configure. You need to create various configuration files and make some configuration modifications. It seems, that fastcgi is the most stable, secure, fast and flexible PHP configuration, however, a bit difficult to be configured. But, may be, I missed something? Comments are welcome!

  • PhP Login/Register system [migrated]

    - by Marian
    I found this good tutorial on creating a login/register system using PhP and MySQL. The forum is around 5 years old (edited last year) but it can still be usefull. Beginner Simple Register-Login system There seems to be an issue with both login and register pages. <?php function register_form(){ $date = date('D, M, Y'); echo "<form action='?act=register' method='post'>" ."Username: <input type='text' name='username' size='30'><br>" ."Password: <input type='password' name='password' size='30'><br>" ."Confirm your password: <input type='password' name='password_conf' size='30'><br>" ."Email: <input type='text' name='email' size='30'><br>" ."<input type='hidden' name='date' value='$date'>" ."<input type='submit' value='Register'>" ."</form>"; } function register(){ $connect = mysql_connect("host", "username", "password"); if(!$connect){ die(mysql_error()); } $select_db = mysql_select_db("database", $connect); if(!$select_db){ die(mysql_error()); } $username = $_REQUEST['username']; $password = $_REQUEST['password']; $pass_conf = $_REQUEST['password_conf']; $email = $_REQUEST['email']; $date = $_REQUEST['date']; if(empty($username)){ die("Please enter your username!<br>"); } if(empty($password)){ die("Please enter your password!<br>"); } if(empty($pass_conf)){ die("Please confirm your password!<br>"); } if(empty($email)){ die("Please enter your email!"); } $user_check = mysql_query("SELECT username FROM users WHERE username='$username'"); $do_user_check = mysql_num_rows($user_check); $email_check = mysql_query("SELECT email FROM users WHERE email='$email'"); $do_email_check = mysql_num_rows($email_check); if($do_user_check > 0){ die("Username is already in use!<br>"); } if($do_email_check > 0){ die("Email is already in use!"); } if($password != $pass_conf){ die("Passwords don't match!"); } $insert = mysql_query("INSERT INTO users (username, password, email) VALUES ('$username', '$password', '$email')"); if(!$insert){ die("There's little problem: ".mysql_error()); } echo $username.", you are now registered. Thank you!<br><a href=login.php>Login</a> | <a href=index.php>Index</a>"; } switch($act){ default; register_form(); break; case "register"; register(); break; } ?> Once pressed the register button the page does nothing, fields are erased and no data is added inside the database or error given. I tought that the problem might be the switch($act){ part so I removed it and changed the page using a require require('connect.php'); where connect.php is <?php mysql_connect("localhost","host","password"); mysql_select_db("database"); ?> Removed the function register_form(){ and echo part turning it into an HTML code: <form action='register' method='post'> Username: <input type='text' name='username' size='30'><br> Password: <input type='password' name='password' size='30'><br> Confirm your password: <input type='password' name='password_conf' size='30'><br> Email: <input type='text' name='email' size='30'><br> <input type='hidden' name='date' value='$date'> <input type='submit' name="register" value='Register'> </form> And instead of having a function register(){ I replaced it with a if($register){ So when the Register button is pressed it runs the php code, but this edit doesn't seem to work either. So what can the problem be? If needed I can re-add this code on my Domain The login page has the same issue, nothing happens when the button is pressed beside emptying the fields.

  • Unable to connect to mail server via IMAP and roundcube

    - by mrhatter
    I am having trouble getting the final parts of my mail server up and working. I followed this tutorial to get everything set up on the mail server side. I have installed roundcube for webmail and configured it but it is saying "error connecting, connection refused" when attempting to connect to it using IMAP. This is thorough the "test imap" section of its installer. Also it is giving me an error message about perissions for it's log and temp folders but that's not as important as acutally getting mail to work. I have also tried connecting to the mail server using thunderbird however it cannot establish a connection either and I know my login information is correct. I know that the databases are working correctly based on the roundcube installer telling me that they have been "successfully initialized". Here are my firewall rules -A INPUT -i lo -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -m conntrack --ctstate RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 22 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 25 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 80 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 443 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 465 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 487 -j ACCEPT -A OUTPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 993 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -j DROP Which I set up in iptables. I have modified them from what I used in this tutorial I'm not sure what to try next. Any help would be wonderful! I am using Ubuntu 14.04 server, apache 2.4.7, roundcube 1.0.1, and the latest versions of dovecot and postfix. The email databases are contained in mysql. I am running this on a VPS server. UPDATE: I have changed from iptables to using ufw. I have run the following commands to set up a basic firewall with ufw. ufw default deny ufw allow ssh ufw allow http ufw allow https ufw allow imap ufw allow imaps ufw allow smtp I then used telnet to check all of the mail ports. But Port 993 isnt working even though ufw says both 993 and 993/tcp are open. What am I missing?

  • Interface extension

    - by user877329
    Suppose that I have an input stream interface, which defines a method for reading data. I also have a seekable interface which defines a method for seeking. A natural way of defining a input file is then to implement both input stream and seekable. I want to construct a data decoder from the input stream interface so I can read data from a file or from another stream. The problem is that I also want to implement seek functionality to the data decoder, since I want to be able to step individual records not raw bytes. This is not possible if I only provide an input stream, which does not have the bytewise seek method. Should I skip the seekable interface and add the seek method to input stream instead and force all streams to at least leave it as a nop.

  • How to do MVC the right way

    - by Ieyasu Sawada
    I've been doing MVC for a few months now using the CodeIgniter framework in PHP but I still don't know if I'm really doing things right. What I currently do is: Model - this is where I put database queries (select, insert, update, delete). Here's a sample from one of the models that I have: function register_user($user_login, $user_profile, $department, $role) { $department_id = $this->get_department_id($department); $role_id = $this->get_role_id($role); array_push($user_login, $department_id, $role_id); $this->db->query("INSERT INTO tbl_users SET username=?, hashed_password=?, salt=?, department_id=?, role_id=?", $user_login); $user_id = $this->db->insert_id(); array_push($user_profile, $user_id); $this->db->query(" INSERT INTO tbl_userprofile SET firstname=?, midname=?, lastname=?, user_id=? ", $user_profile); } Controller - talks to the model, calls up the methods in the model which queries the database, supplies the data which the views will display(success alerts, error alerts, data from database), inherits a parent controller which checks if user is logged in. Here's a sample: function create_user(){ $this->load->helper('encryption/Bcrypt'); $bcrypt = new Bcrypt(15); $user_data = array( 'username' => 'Username', 'firstname' => 'Firstname', 'middlename' => 'Middlename', 'lastname' => 'Lastname', 'password' => 'Password', 'department' => 'Department', 'role' => 'Role' ); foreach ($user_data as $key => $value) { $this->form_validation->set_rules($key, $value, 'required|trim'); } if ($this->form_validation->run() == FALSE) { $departments = $this->user_model->list_departments(); $it_roles = $this->user_model->list_roles(1); $tc_roles = $this->user_model->list_roles(2); $assessor_roles = $this->user_model->list_roles(3); $data['data'] = array('departments' => $departments, 'it_roles' => $it_roles, 'tc_roles' => $tc_roles, 'assessor_roles' => $assessor_roles); $data['content'] = 'admin/create_user'; parent::error_alert(); $this->load->view($this->_at, $data); } else { $username = $this->input->post('username'); $salt = $bcrypt->getSalt(); $hashed_password = $bcrypt->hash($this->input->post('password'), $salt); $fname = $this->input->post('firstname'); $mname = $this->input->post('middlename'); $lname = $this->input->post('lastname'); $department = $this->input->post('department'); $role = $this->input->post('role'); $user_login = array($username, $hashed_password, $salt); $user_profile = array($fname, $mname, $lname); $this->user_model->register_user($user_login, $user_profile, $department, $role); $data['content'] = 'admin/view_user'; parent::success_alert(4, 'User Sucessfully Registered!', 'You may now login using your account'); $data['data'] = array('username' => $username, 'fname' => $fname, 'mname' => $mname, 'lname' => $lname, 'department' => $department, 'role' => $role); $this->load->view($this->_at, $data); } } Views - this is where I put html, css, and JavaScript code (form validation code for the current form, looping through the data supplied by controller, a few if statements to hide and show things depending on the data supplied by the controller). <!--User registration form--> <form class="well min-form" method="post"> <div class="form-heading"> <h3>User Registration</h3> </div> <label for="username">Username</label> <input type="text" id="username" name="username" class="span3" autofocus> <label for="password">Password</label> <input type="password" id="password" name="password" class="span3"> <label for="firstname">First name</label> <input type="text" id="firstname" name="firstname" class="span3"> <label for="middlename">Middle name</label> <input type="text" id="middlename" name="middlename" class="span3"> <label for="lastname">Last name</label> <input type="text" id="lastname" name="lastname" class="span3"> <label for="department">Department</label> <input type="text" id="department" name="department" class="span3" list="list_departments"> <datalist id="list_departments"> <?php foreach ($data['departments'] as $row) { ?> <option data-id="<?php echo $row['department_id']; }); var password = new LiveValidation('password'); password.add(Validate.Presence); password.add(Validate.Length, {minimum: 10}); $('input[type=text]').each(function(i){ var field_id = $(this).attr('id'); var field = new LiveValidation(field_id); field.add(Validate.Presence); if(field_id == 'department'){ field.add(Validate.Inclusion, {within : departments}); } else if(field_id == 'role'){ field.add(Validate.Inclusion, {within : roles}) } }); </script> The codes above are actually code from the application that I'm currently working on. I'm working on it alone so I don't really have someone to review my code for me and point out the wrong things in it so I'm posting it here in hopes that someone could point out the wrong things that I've done in here. I'm also looking for some guidelines in writing MVC code like what are the things that should be and shouldn't be included in views, models and controllers. How else can I improve the current code that I have right now. I've written some really terrible code before(duplication of logic, etc.) that's why I want to improve my code so that I can easily maintain it in the future. Thanks!

  • How can I keep straight alpha during rendering particles?

    - by April
    Rencently,I was trying to save textures of 3D particles so that I can reuse the in 2D rendering.Now I had some problem with alpha channel.Some artist told me I that my textures should have unpremultiplied alpha channel.When I try to get the rgb value back,I got strange result.Some area went lighter and even totally white.I mainly focus on additive and blend mode,that is: ADDITIVE: srcAlpha VS 1 BLEND: srcAlpha VS 1-srcAlpha I tried a technique called premultiplied alpha.This technique just got you the right rgb value,its all you need on screen.As for alpha value,it worked well with BLEND mode,but not ADDITIVE mode.As you can see in parameters,BLEND mode always controlled its value within 1.While ADDITIVE mode cannot guarantee. I want proper alpha,but it just got too big or too small consider to rgb.Now what can I do?Any help will be great thankful. PS:If you don't understand what I am trying to do,there is a commercial software called "Particle Illusion".You can create various particles and then save the scene to texture,where you can choose to remove background of particles. Now,I changed the title.For some software like maya or AE,what I want is called [straight alpha].

  • How to avoid movement speed stacking when multiple keys are pressed?

    - by eren_tetik
    I've started a new game which requires no mouse, thus leaving the movement up to the keyboard. I have tried to incorporate 8 directions; up, left, right, up-right and so on. However when I press more than one arrow key, the movement speed stacks (http://gfycat.com/CircularBewitchedBarebirdbat). How could I counteract this? Here is relevant part of my code: var speed : int = 5; function Update () { if(Input.GetKey(KeyCode.UpArrow)){ transform.Translate(Vector3.forward * speed * Time.deltaTime); } else if(Input.GetKey(KeyCode.UpArrow) && Input.GetKey(KeyCode.RightArrow)){ transform.Translate(Vector3.forward * speed * Time.deltaTime); } else if(Input.GetKey(KeyCode.UpArrow) && Input.GetKey(KeyCode.LeftArrow)){ transform.rotation = Quaternion.AngleAxis(315, Vector3.up); } if(Input.GetKey(KeyCode.DownArrow)){ transform.Translate(Vector3.forward * speed * Time.deltaTime); } }

  • How do you set the movement speed of a sprite?

    - by rphello101
    I'm using Slick 2D/Java to play around with graphics. Getting an image to move is easy: Input input = gc.getInput(); if(input.isKeyDown(sprite.up)){ sprite.y--; }else if (input.isKeyDown(sprite.down)){ sprite.y++; }else if (input.isKeyDown(sprite.left)){ sprite.x--; }else if (input.isKeyDown(sprite.right)){ sprite.x++; } However, this is called on every update, so if you hold up, the sprite moves to the edge of the screen in a few hundred milliseconds. Since coordinates are integers, I can't add less than 1 to slow the sprite down. I'm assuming I must have to implement a timer of some sort or something. Any advice?

The file is structured as shown below: <wb xmlns:cf="http://www.macromedia.com/2004/cfform"> <a:form name="chart"> <a:input FIELDNUMBER="09" INDEX="2" LEFT="200" /> <a:input FIELDNUMBER="08" INDEX="3" LEFT="200" /> <a:fieldset FIELD="a" FIELDNAME="FieldSet1"> <a:input FIELDNUMBER="02" INDEX="4" LEFT="200" /> <a:select1 FIELDNUMBER="01" /> </a:fieldset> <a:fieldset FIELD="b" FIELDNAME="FieldSet1"> <a:input FIELDNUMBER="04" INDEX="7" LEFT="200" /> <a:select1 FIELDNUMBER="03" /> <a:fieldset FIELD="c" FIELDNAME="FieldSet1"> <a:input FIELDNUMBER="06" INDEX="8" LEFT="200" /> <a:input FIELDNUMBER="05" INDEX="6" LEFT="200" /> </a:fieldset> </a:fieldset> </a:form> </wb> I would like to sort the above XML all throughout by @fieldnumber, but at the same I want to keep the same structure of the XML. I have managed to sort other XML file but they did not have such nesting levels. Is this possible with XSL alone and if so how can this be done? The output should be as follows: <wb xmlns:cf="http://www.macromedia.com/2004/cfform"> <a:form name="chart"> <a:input FIELDNUMBER="08" INDEX="3" LEFT="200" /> <a:input FIELDNUMBER="09" INDEX="2" LEFT="200" /> <a:fieldset FIELD="a" FIELDNAME="FieldSet1"> <a:select1 FIELDNUMBER="01" /> <a:input FIELDNUMBER="02" INDEX="4" LEFT="200" /> </a:fieldset> <a:fieldset FIELD="b" FIELDNAME="FieldSet1"> <a:select1 FIELDNUMBER="03" /> <a:input FIELDNUMBER="04" INDEX="7" LEFT="200" /> <a:fieldset FIELD="c" FIELDNAME="FieldSet1"> <a:input FIELDNUMBER="05" INDEX="6" LEFT="200" /> <a:input FIELDNUMBER="06" INDEX="8" LEFT="200" /> </a:fieldset> </a:fieldset> </a:form> </wb> As another example, should the FIELDNUMBER 04 be changed to a value greater than 7 such as 10 (let's assume 10 in this example) then the output of the fieldset with FIELD value b becomes: <a:fieldset FIELD="b" FIELDNAME="FieldSet1"> <a:select1 FIELDNUMBER="03" /> <a:fieldset FIELD="c" FIELDNAME="FieldSet1"> <a:input FIELDNUMBER="05" INDEX="6" LEFT="200" /> <a:input FIELDNUMBER="06" INDEX="8" LEFT="200" /> </a:fieldset> <a:input FIELDNUMBER="10" INDEX="7" LEFT="200" /> </a:fieldset>

  • Dot Net Nuke module works in "Edit" mode but not for "View": cache problem?

    - by Godeke
    I have a DNN task that simply runs some Javascript to compute a price based on a few input fields. This module works fine on our production site, but we had a company do a skin for us to improve the look of the site and the module fails under this new system. (DNN 05.06.00 (459) although it was 5.5 prior... I updated in a futile hope that it was a bug in the old revision.) What is incredibly odd about this is that the module works fine when I'm logged in to DNN and using the Edit mode as an administrator. In this case the small snippet of JavaScript loads fine and filling the fields results in a price. On the other hand it I click "View" (or more importantly, if I'm not logged in at all) the page loads a cached copy. Even odder, I have found the cache files in \Portals\2\Cache\Pages are generated and then only the cached data is being used. When the cached copy is loaded, the JavaScript doesn't appear (it is normally created via a Page.ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptBlock(). Additionally, the button which posts the data to the server doesn't execute any of the server side code (confirmed with a debugger) but instead just reloads the cached copy. If I manually delete the files in \Portals\2\Cache\Pages then everything works properly, but I have to do so after every page load: failing to do so simply loads the page as it was last generated repeatedly. Resetting the application (either via the UI or editing web.config) doesn't change this and clearing the cache from the Host Settings page doesn't actually clear these cached pages. I'm guessing that Edit mode bypasses the cache in some way, but I have gone as far as turning off all caching on the site (which is horrible for performance) and the cached version is still loaded. Has anyone seen anything like this? Shouldn't clearing the cache clear the files (I'm using the File provider for caching)? Shouldn't even a cached page go back to the server if the user posts back? EDIT: I should point out that permissions don't appear to be a problem on the cache directory... other pages cached output are deleted from this folder, just this page has this issue. EDIT 2: Clarifying some settings and conditions which I didn't provide. First, this module works fine in production under DNN 5.6.0. In our test environment with the consulting company's changes it fails (the changes are skin and page layout only in theory: the module source itself verifies as unchanged). All cache settings and the like have been verified the same between the two and we only resorted to setting the module cache to 0 and -1 (and disabling the test site's cache entirely) when we couldn't find another cause for the problem. I have watched the cache work correctly on many other pages in test: there is something about this page that is causing the problem. We have punted and are creating an installable skin based on the consultant's work as I suspect they have somehow corrupted the DNN install (database side I think).

  • model binding of non-sequential arrays

    - by user281180
    I am having a table in which i`m dynamically creating and deleting rows. How can I change the code such that the rows be added and deleted and the model info property filled accordingly. Bearing in mind that the rows can be dynamically created and deleted, I may have Info[0], Inf0[3], info[4]... My objective is to be able to bind the array even if it`s not in sequence. Model public class Person { public int[] Size { get; set; } public string[] Name { get; set; } public Info[]info { get; set; } } public class Info { public string Address { get; set; } public string Tel { get; set; } View <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript"> $(function () { var count = 1; $('#AddSize').live('click', function () { $("#divSize").append('</br><input type="text" id="Size" name="Size" value=""/><input type = "button" id="AddSize" value="Add"/>'); }); $('#AddName').live('click', function () { $("#divName").append('</br><input type="text" id="Name" name="Name" value=""/><input type = "button" id="AddName" value="Add"/>'); }); $('#AddRow').live('click', function () { $('#details').append('<tr><td>Address</td><td> <input type="text" name="Info[' + count + '].Address"/></td><td>Tel</td><td><input type="text" name="Info[' + count++ + '].Tel"/></td> <td><input type="button" id="AddRow" value="Add"/> </td></tr>'); }); }); </script> </head> <body> <form id="closeForm" action="<%=Url.Action("Create",new{Action="Create"}) %>" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data"> <div id="divSize"> <input type="text" name="Size" value=""/> <input type="button" value="Add" id="AddSize" /> </div> <div id="divName"> <input type="text" name="Name" value=""/> <input type="button" value="Add" id="AddName" /> </div> <div id="Tab"> <table id="details"> <tr><td>Address</td><td> <input type="text" name="Info[0].Address"/></td><td>Tel</td><td><input type="text" name="Info[0].Tel"/></td> <td><input type="button" id="AddRow" value="Add"/> </td></tr> </table> </div> <input type="submit" value="Submit" /> </form> </body> } Controller public ActionResult Create(Person person) { return new EmptyResult(); }
