  • Old fashioned html onclick return false doesnt in IE work when jquery script included

    Ok, so im quite new to jquery but found this bizzar problem just now, If we ignore jquery for a second and consider this scenario, if i have two links like below both with an href and both with and onclick event. The first link will not follow the href because the onclick returns false, and the second link will because the onclick returns true. <a href="/page.html" onclick="return false;">Dont follow</a> <a href="/page.html" onclick="return false;">Follow</a> This works just hunky dory in every browser as it should, the thing is, as soon as i include the jQuery script on the page this stops working in all versions of IE which then always follows the href whether the onclick returns false or not. (it continues to work fine in other browsers) Now if i add an event using jquery and call .preventDefault() on the event object instead of doing it the old fashioned way this behaves correctly, and you may say, well just do that then? But i have a site with thousands of lines of code and i am adding jquery support, i dont want to run the risk that i might miss an already defined html onclick="" and break the website. I cant see why jQuery should prevent perfectly normal javascript concepts from working, so is this a jQuery bug or am I missing something?

  • Advice/suggestions for my first project PHP Classes

    Hi guys, Any advice is welcome! I have a very limited understanding of php classes but below is my starting point for the route I would like to take. The code is a reflection of what I see in my head and how I would like to go about business. Does my code even look ok, or am I way off base? What are your thoughts, how would you go about achieving such a task as form-validate-insertquery-sendmail-return messages and errors?   • Simaltaneous connections with PHP and SOAP?

    I'm new to using SOAP and understanding the utmost basics of it. I create a client resource/connection, I then run some queries in a loop and I'm done. The issue I am having is when I increase the iterations of the loop, ie: from 100 to 1000, it seems to run out of memory and drops an internal server error. How could I possibly run either a) multiple simaltaneous connections or b) create a connection, 100 iterations, close connection, create connection.. etc. "a)" looks to be the better option but I have no clue as to how to get it up and running whilst keeping memory (I assume opening and closing connections) at a minimum.   • PHP script to process NSURLRequest from iphone

    Hi, i will be sending a POST request to login.php on my server from an iphone app over HTTPS. The POST is created using NSMutableURLRequest. Is there an example of a PHP script to process this POST on my server. The POST isn't sent as a form as such , anyway not that i think it is. Not sure how NSMutableURLRequest formats this. I just need to know how to access the POST data on the server with the php script. All the examples ive seen regarding php scripts processing POSTS seem to be do with forms. So how do i process this? Any links etc most welcome. Thanks

  • Form submit capture into database not working

    Hi guys, I have a form that has two buttons on it, one yes, one no, and at the moment I capture the clicked button into a database, but for some reason, it doesn't always capture the clicked button, I have gone through all my code and everything seems fine, here is the form <div id="mid_prompt"> <form action="refer.php" method="post" onsubmit="return submit_form()" > <div class="prompt_container" style="float: left;"> <span class="prompt_item"><input type="image" src="images/yes.jpg" alt="submit" name="refer" value="yes" /></span> </div> </form> <form action="thank_you.php" method="post" onsubmit="return submit_form()" > <div class="prompt_container" style="float: right;"> <span class="prompt_item"><input type="image" src="images/no.jpg" alt="submit" name="refer" value="no" /></span> </div> </form> </div> I am using sessions to carry the variables all the way to the end of the forms where I then write all the data to a database, I have checked my sessions and they seem to be working fine, the only one that is giving problems is the yes/no.     I'm attempting to use the PHP DateTime class on a server with PHP 5.2.6, with a test server running PHP 5.3. Here is the code: <?php try { $dt = new DateTime('2009-10-08'); $dt->setDate(2009,10,8); print_r($dt); }catch (Exception $e) { echo $e->getMessage(); } On the test server, things work flawlessly, this is what prints: DateTime Object ( [date] => 2009-10-08 00:00:00 [timezone_type] => 3 [timezone] => America/New_York ) On the server I need to use it on, however, this is what prints: DateTime Object ( ) Removing the setDate makes no difference whatsoever. Any ideas why this might be happening? Thanks!

  • php OOP function declarations

    I'm a big fan of OOP in php, but i feel like defining class methods gets disorganized so fast. I have a pretty good background in OOP in C++, and i am pretty comfortable with how it is handled there, and am curious if there are ways to do it similarly in php. To be more specific, here is what i mean. I like how in C++ you can define a class header (myclass.h) and then define the actual details of the functions in the implementation file (myclass.cc). Ive found that this can easily be replicated using interfaces in php, but i havent found a good solution for the following: I like to organize my code in C++ in different files based on how they are accessed, so for example, public methods that can be called outside of the class would be in 1 place, and private methods would be organized somewhere else - this is personal preference. Ive tried to define class methods in php like: private function MyPHPClass::myFunction(){ } when the definition isnt directly inside the class block( { } ), but i havent had any success doing this. Ive been through all of the pages on php.net, but couldnt find anything like this. Im assuming that there is no support for something like this, but thought i would ask anyway. thanks

  • ORDER BY column_name help (via link in HTML table view) (PHP MySQL

    My output for my table in HTML has several columns such as userid, name, age, dob. The table heading is simply the title of the column name, I want this to be a link, and when clicked, the selected column is sorted in order, ASC, and then DESC (on next click). I thought this was pretty straight forward but I'm having some difficulty. So far, I have produced this, and no output is taken, apart from the URL works by displaying 'users.php?orderby=userid' <?php if(isset($_GET['orderby'])){ $orderby = $_GET['orderby']; $query_sv = "SELECT * FROM users BY ".mysql_real_escape_string($orderby)." ASC"; } //default query else{ $query_sv = "SELECT * FROM users BY user_id DESC"; } ?> <tr> <th><a href="<?php echo $_SERVER['php_SELF']."?orderby=userid";?>">User ID</a></th> Hoefully if I get this working, I can sort the users by D.O.B. next also using the same principles. Does anyone have any ideas?

But I need to do some processing on each Product, Warehouse and Quantity stock and can't figure out how to parse it out into separate product groups. The final output I am after is something like: Product 1: Name: Product Name 1 Warehouse: Warehouse 1, ACT Stock: 25 Product 2: Name: Product Name 2 Warehouse: Warehouse 2, ACT Stock: 25 I can't just figure it out, and I can't wrap my head around this DOM stuff as the elements don't quite work the same as a standard array. If anyone can assist, or point me in the right direction I will be ever appreciative.

  • INET_ATON() and INET_NTOA() in PHP?

    I want to store IP addresses in my database, but I also need to use them throughout my application. I read about using INET_ATON() and INET_NTOA() in my MySQL queries to get a 32-bit unsigned integer out of an IP address, which is exactly what I want as it will make searching through the database faster than using char(15). The thing is, I can't find a function that does the same sort of thing in PHP. The only thing I came across is: http://php.net/manual/en/function.ip2long.php So I tested it: $ip = $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']; echo ip2long($ip); And it outputs nothing. In the example they gave it seems to work, but then again I'm not exactly sure if ip2long() does the same thing as INET_ATON(). Does someone know a PHP function that will do this? Or even a completely new solution to storing an IP address in a database? Thanks.

  • Replacement for PEAR: MDB2 on PHP 5.3

    I've been using pear packages in php for years. I'm in the process of upgrading/moving a sites that uses the MDB2 pear package and it has not been updated for PHP 5.3.X. In 5.3, MDB2 is returning those new annoying errors. Unknown: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /usr/local/lib/php/MDB2.php on line 390 I know I can change my error reporting settings to get rid of them, but I'd rather not make any exceptions. Anyway, Is anyone else using MDB2 these days and have a solution? Are there similar database packages you recommend? Thanks. -Matt

  • How do I use price data in one table for a calculation that is stored in another table?

    I'm still leanring PHP/MySQL but have learned quite a bit thanks to codies on StackOverflow. I'm trying to setup a sort of room reservations system using two tables: SETUP: Room price table: Has, prices for a type room a client may want to rent as well as the dates (day of week) they wish to use it. Pricing varies based on day of the week and per room. I've setup a different table for each room type as each room type carries different pricing for each day of the week. So, There is an Alpha room table, Bravo room, etc. Within Alpha table are headers for the days of the week with pricing pre-entered into the rows. Client info table: Has the name, address, date of room use, etc data for the specific client. EXAMPLE: Alpha-room price table: Sun = $100; Mon = $200; Tue=$300 and so on. Bravo-room price table: Sun = $100; Mon = $200; Tue=$300 and so on. Client data table: ClientName; date-of-room-use; address; day_subtotal; grand_total. QUESTION: I'm trying to find PHP code that will: look at the date of room use in the client data table, look up the associated cost for that date in the specific room pricing table, record that unit cost in the day subtotal of the client data table and sum a grand total in the grand total row of the client data table (assuming the room may be used more than one day by the customer). I know there's something to do with join but I'm finding it difficult to grasp the concept and, if someone can demonstrate using this example, I think I will have a better understanding of how to work this sort of transaction.   • Dreamweaver creating temp php files instead of working direct from the local test server files

    Trying to get MAMP running with Dreamweaver. When I preview a php file inside Dreamweavers 'Live View' mode instead of working direct from my file: http://localhost/php_test/timetest.php it creates its own temp file which looks like: http:// 127.0.0.1/php_test/ TMPWY5ZEM.php (I've added the additional spaces as stockoverflow assumed I was spamming) I know the localhost runs correctly as if I type the URL directly into a browser it runs fine. I've set up the Dreamweaver site correctly to the best of my knowledge, the details are below: Local site folder: /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/php_test Server Folder: /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/php_test Web URL: http://localhost/php_test/ Testing Server: PHP MySQL Any help?
