  • Memory leak for NSDictionary loaded by plist file

    - by Pask
    I have a memory leak problem that just can not understand! Watch this initialization method: - (id)initWithNomeCompositore:(NSString *)nomeCompositore nomeOpera:(NSString *)nomeOpera { if (self = [super init]) { NSString *pathOpere = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:kNomeFilePlistOpere ofType:kTipoFilePlist]; NSDictionary *dicOpera = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithDictionary: [[[NSDictionary dictionaryWithContentsOfFile:pathOpere] objectForKey:nomeCompositore] objectForKey:nomeOpera]]; self.nomeCompleto = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:nomeOpera]; self.compositore = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:nomeCompositore]; self.tipologia = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:[dicOpera objectForKey:kKeyTipologia]]; } return self;} Then this little variation (note self.tipologia): - (id)initWithNomeCompositore:(NSString *)nomeCompositore nomeOpera:(NSString *)nomeOpera { if (self = [super init]) { NSString *pathOpere = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:kNomeFilePlistOpere ofType:kTipoFilePlist]; NSDictionary *dicOpera = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithDictionary: [[[NSDictionary dictionaryWithContentsOfFile:pathOpere] objectForKey:nomeCompositore] objectForKey:nomeOpera]]; self.nomeCompleto = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:nomeOpera]; self.compositore = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:nomeCompositore]; self.tipologia = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"Test"]; } return self;} In the first variant is generated a memory leak, the second is not! And I just can not understand why! The memory leak is evidenced by Instruments, highlighted the line: [NSDictionary dictionaryWithContentsOfFile:pathOpere] This is the dealloc method: - (void)dealloc { [tipologia release]; [compositore release]; [nomeCompleto release]; [super dealloc];}

  • AVAudioPlayer won't play audio file after AVAudioRecorder

    - by Kevin
    I create a .caf audio file using AVAudioRecorder and if I try and play it back using AVAudioPlay I get no sound on the iPhone (if played in simulator works fine). If I close my application and reopen the file plays fine. Also I am not able to adjust the phone volume after recording unless I close and reopen my application. Any ideas?

  • Detecting a Lightweight Core Data Migration

    - by hadronzoo
    I'm using Core Data's automatic lightweight migration successfully. However, when a particular entity gets created during a migration, I'd like to populate it with some data. Of course I could check if the entity is empty every time the application starts, but this seems inefficient when Core Data has a migration framework. Is it possible to detect when a lightweight migration occurs (possibly using KVO or notifications), or does this require implementing standard migrations? I've tried using the NSPersistentStoreCoordinatorStoresDidChangeNotification, but it doesn't fire when migrations occur.

  • How to find the leaky faucet that loads into Malloc 32kb

    - by Rob
    I have been messing around with Leaks trying to find which function is not being deallocated (I am still new to this) and could really use some experienced insight. I have this bit of code that seems to be the culprit. Every time I press the button that calls this code, 32kb of memory is additionally allocated to memory and when the button is released that memory does not get deallocated. What I found was that everytime that AVAudioPlayer is called to play an m4a file, the final function to parse the m4a file is MP4BoxParser::Initialize() and this in turn allocates 32kb of memory through Cached_DataSource::ReadBytes My question is, how do I go about deallocating that after it is finished so that it doesn't keep allocating 32kb every time the button is pressed? Any help you could provide is greatly appreciated! - (void)touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { //stop playing theAudio.stop; // cancel any pending handleSingleTap messages [NSObject cancelPreviousPerformRequestsWithTarget:self selector:@selector(handleSingleTap) object:nil]; UITouch* touch = [[event allTouches] anyObject]; NSString* filename = [g_AppsList objectAtIndex: [touch view].tag]; NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource: filename ofType:@"m4a"]; theAudio=[[AVAudioPlayer alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL fileURLWithPath:path] error:NULL]; theAudio.delegate = self; [theAudio prepareToPlay]; [theAudio setNumberOfLoops:-1]; [theAudio setVolume: g_Volume]; [theAudio play]; }

  • CoreLocation on iPod Touch, location caching and other conundrums...

    - by Moshe
    I have a few questions about Core Location. 1) Should the user refuse permission for my app to use core location, or core location is unavailable for some reason, is there a fallback? (Device Locale, for example?) 2)Can I cache a device's location for next time? Does Core Location do this itself? 3)I really need the sunset time in the user's area during the mid-spring season and I have a function to do that, once I have the Latitude and Longitude of the device. Perhaps I can just make an assumption about the time based on Locale? (Example: In the US, assume approximately 7:00pm.)

  • Android Drawable question.

    - by Tarmon
    Hey Everyone, I am trying to create a drawable in code and change the color based on some criteria. I can get it to work but it doesn't want to let me set the padding on the view. Any help would be appreciated. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <ImageView android:id="@+id/icon" android:layout_width="50px" android:layout_height="fill_parent" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/label" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:paddingLeft="17px" android:textSize="28sp" /> ImageView icon = (ImageView) row.findViewById(R.id.icon); ShapeDrawable mDrawable; int x = 0; int y = 0; int width = 50; int height = 50; float[] outerR = new float[] { 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12 }; mDrawable = new ShapeDrawable(new RoundRectShape(outerR, null, null)); mDrawable.setBounds(x, y+height, x + width, y); switch(position){ case 0: mDrawable.getPaint().setColor(0xffff0000); //Red break; case 1: mDrawable.getPaint().setColor(0xffff0000); //Red break; case 2: mDrawable.getPaint().setColor(0xff00c000); //Green break; case 3: mDrawable.getPaint().setColor(0xff00c000); //Green break; case 4: mDrawable.getPaint().setColor(0xff0000ff); //Blue break; case 5: mDrawable.getPaint().setColor(0xff0000ff); //Blue break; case 6: mDrawable.getPaint().setColor(0xff696969); //Gray break; case 7: mDrawable.getPaint().setColor(0xff696969); //Gray break; case 8: mDrawable.getPaint().setColor(0xffffff00); //Yellow break; case 9: mDrawable.getPaint().setColor(0xff8b4513); //Brown break; case 10: mDrawable.getPaint().setColor(0xff8b4513); //Brown break; case 11: mDrawable.getPaint().setColor(0xff8b4513); //Brown break; case 12: mDrawable.getPaint().setColor(0xffa020f0); //Purple break; case 13: mDrawable.getPaint().setColor(0xffff0000); //Red break; case 14: mDrawable.getPaint().setColor(0xffffd700); //Gold break; case 15: mDrawable.getPaint().setColor(0xffff6600); //Orange break; } icon.setBackgroundDrawable(mDrawable); icon.setPadding(5, 5, 5, 5); If I set the padding in XML it just ignores it. Thanks, Rob

  • Three20 - add items to launcherView after viewDidLoad

    - by lostInTransit
    Hi I am getting a list of image URLs and corresponding names at run time in my app. I would like to add these images to a TTLauncherView object that I have. Cannot add these in loadView. I am making a call to the method for getting my data in a separate thread. Once the thread completes, I add the TTLauncherItem objects to an array and set the "pages" variable of the LauncherView. But for some reason, the view is not updated and I don't see anything on it. Can someone please let me know how to refresh the launcherview after adding items to it in methods other than loadView? Thanks.

  • Great UIKit/Objective-C one-Liners

    - by Nissan Fan
    New to Objective-C iPhone/iPod touch/iPad development, but I'm starting to discover lots of power in one-liners of code such as this: [UIApplication sharedApplication].applicationIconBadgeNumber = 10; Which will display that distinctive red notification badge on your app iphone with the number 10. Please share you favorite one-liners in Objective-C for the iPhone/iPod touch/iPad here.

  • How to declare NSString constants for passing to NSNotificationCenter

    - by synic
    I've got the following in my .h file: #ifndef _BALANCE_NOTIFICATION #define _BALANCE NOTIFICATION const NSString *BalanceUpdateNotification #endif and the following in my .m file: const NSString *BalanceUpdateNotification = @"BalanceUpdateNotification"; I'm using this with the following codes: [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(updateBalance:) name:BalanceUpdateNotification object:nil]; and [[NSNotificatoinCenter defaultCenter] postNotificationName:BalanceUpdateNotificatoin object:self userInfo:nil]; Which works, but it gives me a warning: Passing argument 1 of 'postNotificationName:object:userInfo' discards qualifiers from pointer target type So, I can cast it to (NSString *), but I'm wondering what the proper way to do this is.

  • iPhone: Proper use of View and View Controller

    - by Joel
    I've recently been doing a lot of Objective-C programming, and just got back into doing more iPhone development. I've done a lot of programming using MVC in other languages/frameworks, but I just want to make sure I'm using MVC properly in my iPhone Development. I created a new iPhone Utility Application, which creates two views: MainView and FlipsideView. Both have a controller (FlipsideViewController and MainViewController) and XIB file of their own. What I've been doing is putting the IBOutlet UIControl myControl variables in my MainView.h or FlipsideView.h files and then tying the controls in Interface Builder to those variables. Then I put any IBAction SomeAction myAction methods in the MainViewController.h and FlipsideViewController.h files and tying the events to those methods in Interface Builder. This seems to be conceptually correct, but seems to cause problems. Say I have a button that when clicked it changes a label's text. So the Controller doesn't have a clue of what the variable name of the label is in the OnTouchUp event handler for my button. So I make a @property for it. But since the MainViewController.view property isn't of type MyView, I get warnings or errors whenever I try to access those properties from the view controller. I am doing this correctly? Is there a better way to do this? If this is correct, how do I properly work with those variables without getting warnings or errors? Thanks

  • Convert bitmap image information into CGImage in iPhone OS 3

    - by giftederic
    I want to create a CGImage with the color information I already have Here is the code for converting the CGImage to CML, CML_color is a matrix structure - (void)CGImageReftoCML:(CGImageRef *)image destination:(CML_color &)dest{ CML_RGBA p; NSUInteger width=CGImageGetWidth(image); NSUInteger height=CGImageGetHeight(image); CGColorSpaceRef colorSpace=CGColorSpaceCreateDeviceRGB(); unsigned char *rawData=new unsigned char[height*width*4]; NSUInteger bytesPerPixel=4; NSUInteger bytesPerRow=bytesPerPixel*width; NSUInteger bitsPerComponent=8; CGContextRef context=CGBitmapContextCreate(rawData, width, height, bitsPerComponent, bytesPerRow, colorSpace, kCGImageAlphaPremultipliedLast | kCGBitmapByteOrder32Big); CGColorSpaceRelease(colorSpace); CGContextDrawImage(context, CGRectMake(0, 0, width, height), image); CGContextRelease(context); int index=0; for (int i=0; i<height; i++) { for (int j=0; j<width; j++) { p.red=rawData[index++]; p.green=rawData[index++]; p.blue=rawData[index++]; p.alpha=rawData[index++]; dest(i,j)=p; } } delete[] rawData; } Now I want the reverse function, which converts CML into CGImage. I know all the color and alpha information to create the image, which stored in the matrix CML, but how can I do that?

  • OpenGl es view and uitableview

    - by Mel
    I have written an application using opengl es view. Now I want to add a uitableview to display on the screen. However I am needing some guidance on how opengl es view and the other views play together nice. For example I have read some things that would lead me to think I need to pause the opengl view when the table is displayed. Can anyone point me to a tutorial on how to make these things work together or just point me to the stackoverflow question that I can't find where some guy asked the same exact thing and got an answer :-)

  • Autorotation and multiple view controllers

    - by alku83
    I'm creating an iPad application which should only work in portrait and portait upsidedown modes. For performance reasons in my applicationDidFinishLaunching method I'm creating several viewControllers, and adding them to my main window as subviews. I then hide the ones I don't want to see straight away. There is no tab bar or navigation controller. My problem is that only the first viewController seems to be receiving the rotate calls. I have verified this by swapping around the order in which I add the subviews to the main window and NSLog's. Is there some way I can force all the controllers to receive the calls? Some of my views are designed to lay over the top of another view, but this behind view will not always be the same one - so it seems to make sense to have the overlay view in a separate view controller. Am I doing something fundamentally wrong, and that's why it's not behaving as I would expect? EDIT: The accepted answer for this question seems to indicate the exact problem I'm facing: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/548142/uiviewcontroller-rotate-methods

  • How can I load a view based on how long I hold a UIButton?

    - by Thomas
    Hello all, I've searched the net and documentation, but haven't found anything quite like what I'm trying to do. I'm working on an app where I want to load one view if a UIButton is held for x seconds, another if it's held for x+y seconds, etc. I found this tutorial. The problem I'm running into is, how do I switch the length of the button press? The tutorial switched the number of taps. -(void)touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { NSSet *allTouches = [event allTouches]; switch ([allTouches count]) { case 1: // Single touch { // Get the first touch. UITouch *touch = [[allTouches allObjects] objectAtIndex:0]; switch ([touch tapCount]) { case 1: // Single Tap. { // Start a timer timer = [NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:2 target:self selector:@selector(showAlertView:) userInfo:nil repeats:NO]; [timer retain]; } break; case 2: // Double tap. break; } } break; case 2: // Double touch { } break; default: break; } } Any suggestions? Thanks! Thomas

  • NSXMLParser rss issue NSXMLParserInvalidCharacterError

    - by Chris Van Buskirk
    NSXMLParserInvalidCharacterError # 9 This is the error I get when I hit a weird character (like quotes copied and pasted from word to the web form, that end up in the feed). The feed I am using is not giving an encoding, and their is no hope for me to get them to change that. This is all I get in the header: < ?xml version="1.0"? < rss version="2.0" What can I do about illegal characters when parsing feeds? Do I sweep the data prior to the parse? Is there something I am missing in the API? Has anyone dealt with this issue?
