  My office PC has a one wireless network card and there are three available wifi connections: primary, backup and backup of a backup (grin). Is it possible for me to use all three simultaneously. If this results in an increase in bandwidth that's well and good, but primary reason is every now and then one of the network fails and i have to switch back and forth between the available networks by disconnecting, viewing available networks and connecting to next one hoping its running. Do i need more than one network card or a software e.g. a proxy.

• Linux - Create ftp account with read/write access to only 1 folder

  Hey guys.... I have never worked on linux and dont plan on working on it either - The only command I probably know is "ls" :) I am hosting my website on Eapps and use their cpanel to setup everything so never worked with linux. Now I have this one time case - where I need to provide access to a contractor to fix the CSS issues on my website. He basically needs FTP (read/write) access to certain folders. At a high level - this is my code structure /home/webadmin/example.com/html/images /css /js /login.php /facebook.php /home/webadmin/example.com/application/library /views /models /controllers /config /bootstrap.php /home/webadmin/example.com/cgi-bin I want the new user to be able to have access to only these folders /home/webadmin/example.com/html/js /home/webadmin/example.com/html/css /home/webadmin/example.com/application/views He should not be able to view even the content of other folders including files like bootstrap.php or login.php etc If any sys admins can help me set this account up - will really appreciate it. • Is there a usable HTML web gallery template for Lightroom 2?

  The built-in HTML gallery unfortunately generates invalid HTML markup so its looks are likely more coincidence than proper design. That aside its JavaScript usage prevents using the middle mouse button to open an image in a new tab. A look at the few free HTML gallery templates out there shows me that there seems to be little interest in building an actual HTML gallery which doesn't use JavaScript. Most of them are using JS to build fancy animations or in-page popup boxes containing the image. This may be nice for some people but at least one person who looks at my images is on dial-up and quickly opening all images in individual tabs to let them load and then close the connection is very nice to have there. Anyone seen such a gallery template; i. e. simple, plain HTML without JS? My HTML/CSS skills aren't that good that I can develop such a thing on my own, unfortunately.

• Strange FTP issues - some files are not downloaded

  I have a machine, which cannot fetch some files from remote servers by FTP. Machine is powered by CentOS. I tested FTP on three files: 12.09.2012 21:21 166 007 ll091212.002 13.09.2012 11:32 23 040 ll091212.003 13.09.2012 11:50 61 313 ll091212.004 From them, I can always successfully download only one - ll091212.004. Two others are downloaded by about 90% (I can see them on disk) and then FTP transfer hangs without any error messages. I move files, copy them about the remote server - no luck. Another machine from the same subnet can download all three of them easily. I just don't know what's the reason of this.

• Debian date jumping, causing complete lockup

  I have a Debian Squeeze VM that has suddenly chosen to jump it's date forwards just over a month, which seems to confuse it no end and cause it to require a hard reset (yikes!). There is nothing unusual in the logs, except that the datestamp suddenly jumps (today back to 2005). It's happened three times, so I don't think it's to do with the leap second issue as the last one of those was in July. When it happened once I spent ages checking stuff but could not find anything, decided to forget it. But three times is becoming an issue on a production server. • Is it possible to open Adobe Illustrator files from last close?

  Say you have three files open in Adobe Illustrator, but you exit out of the program. Is there a way that you can have those three files opened back up when you open up Illustrator again? Similar to how most text editor programs are set up -- so when you open up the program again all your last stayed-open files are there. Also, does anyone know what the terminology for this saving-behavior is? State-saving? Googling to find the answer is difficult within the sea of Illustrator 'saving files' questions.

My main problem is that I switch a lot between two instances of a single application, and having to hover over combined icon and then choosing the correct one. Alt-Tabbing is not a good alternative when I'm switching between more than three applications; clicking on taskbar only once is what I'm looking for.

• Is it possible to convert striped logical volume to linear logical volume?

  I've a logical volume that is striped across three physical volumes. I had to move this logical volume to another physical volume. This worked nicely with pvmove command. However, I discovered later that the logical volume is still striped and now all three stripes are on the same physical volume. Is there any way to convert striped logical volumes to linear logical volumes? I'm using LVM2 on linux. I figured that the obvious possibility is to rename the striped logical volume, create a new linear logical volume, and then copy data over, but that requires taking the filesystem system offline for some time. Unfortunately, I can't do that before the next week. Is there any better alternative?

• Apache ProxyPass ignore static files

• Microsoft Basic Office 2007 Activation Keys won't work after re-installing on my Laptop

  So, I've upgraded my hard-drive on my laptop, and proceeded to grab my trusty copper-faced Official MS Office disk to do an install. I have three licenses with the fancy green-blue paper that identifies the license keys. Problem is, that for each of these license keys, when the Office 2007 software asks that I enter the "Product Key" it states: The key is incorrect. Verify that you have the correct key, and then retype it Why would Microsoft want to inhibit/prohibit re-installs on the same machine that the software was initially installed to? Incidentally, the same goofy error happens with each of the three valid product key (activation keys) that I enter.

• Internet Explorer 10 auto-correct randomly capitalises words

  I use Internet Explorer 10 on my Windows 7 laptop (because the fingerprint browser add-on only works in IE). I have noticed that IE 10 has a built-in spellchecker, which is great. Now, I write about 90 % English and 10 % Swedish on web sites, so it is somewhat unfortunate that it isn't possible to change the spell-checker language 'on-the-fly'. But that's a minor issue. The main problem is that, when I write English comments, the spell-checker (apparently randomly) capitalises some Words. For instance, the 'words' of the previous sentence was changed automatically to 'Words'. Another Word that is Always capitalised is Before. (Yes, the Three Words that are incorrectly capitalised in the previous sentence are due to the auto-correct 'feature', and apparently 'three' is also a problematic word.) Is this really something that happens to every (bilingual) user? Is there any way to fix the issue (preferably without disabling the spell-checker altogether)?

• Source of Unexplained Requests in Server Logs

  Hi, I am baffled by some entries in my server logs, specifically the web-server logs. Other than normal, expected traffic, I have noticed three types of request errors (eg 404, etc.): Broken links, ie links from old, external pages that point to pages that are no longer here Sequences of probes, ie some jerk trying to hack in by scanning my server for a series of exploitable admin type pages and such What appear to be completely random requests for things that have never existed on the server or even have anything to do with the server, and appear by themselves (ie not a series of requests like the probes) Could it somehow be a mistyped URL or IP? That’s about the only thing that I can think of, but still, how could I get a request on say, foobar.dyndns.org (12.34.56.78) for something like www.wantsfly.com/prx2.php or /MNG/LIVE or http://ant.dsabuse.com/abc.php?auth=45V456b09m&strPassword=X%5BMTR__CBZ%40VA&nLoginId=43. (Those are a few actual requests from my logs.) Can someone please explain scenario three to me? Thanks.

• Auto log off windows machine after certain number of minutes

  I have three machines on my network, two are windows xp and one is windows 7. i would like to have all three machines log a user off if they are on for more than 60 minutes. And I would like this to be applied to the machine not on a per user basis, because I do not want this policy to apply to those users on any other machine. I have installed winexit.scr on one of the machines but the problem is that I cannot change the default value of 10 minutes for the screensaver because that is controlled through group policy, and I cannot seem to find where to change that through group policy on a per machine basis NOT on a per user basis. • My site not directing links correctly.

For some reason it works perfectly on linux cpanel and actually loads the pages, but on windows in apache, or in IIS even with a rewrite mod for it, it just doesnt work. The links dont go correctly. • Multiple columns in a single index versus multiple indexes

  The short version of my question is what's the difference between three indexes each indexing a single column and one index indexing three columns. Background follows. I'm primarily a programmer but have to do DBA work because we don't have a DBA. I'm evaluating our indexes versus the queries run against a particular table. The table as 3 columns that I'm often filtering against or getting the max value of. Most of the time the queries look like select max(col_a) from table where col_b = 'avalue' or select col_c from table where col_b = 'avalue' and col_a = 'anothervalue' All columns are independently indexed. My question is would I see any difference if I had an index that indexed col_b and col_a together since they can appear in a where clause together?
