  • API For Flex Apps To Interact

    I have a large flex application (the app) running on one server, and many small flex applications (widgets) running on another server, which are to be included in the app so that visually the user see's one continuous application. Due to proprietary third party software, this structure cannot be changed. I am looking for some way to allow the app and the widgets to communicate, allowing the app to make changes to the widgets and the the widgets to notify the app when events are triggered, so that user interaction is fluid and continuous. There are a few related questions which indicate it's possible to do this by setting up event triggers and listeners. I am wondering if there is any standardized way to do this (the answers aren't very clear) or if anyone has developed a library or API to make this easier.

  • Replace Infinite loop in Flex

    Hello, I want to access a webservice:getMonitorData() , on creationcomplete and returns an array, in an infinite loop so that the getIndex0.text is updated each time. Flex is not able to handle an infinite loop and gives a timeout error 1502. If I run the for loop until i<2000 or so it works fine. How can replace the loop so that my webservice is accessed continiously and the result is shown in getIndex0.text.   • Allowing pop-up's and downloads with flex

    I'm building an flex app that is basically a wrapper for a few websites. One of them is a google docs website, and I'm trying to get flex to allow downloads or popups or something that will allow me to do it. I've tried a whole bunch of solutions online and none of them have worked out.   • FLEX: sequence of puppets... 3 requirements

    hi, I'm implementing this sequence of puppets in flex: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/72686/itemsSequence.png I want to show the caption when the mouse rolls over the puppet I want the user being able to click on the buttons of the caption (so the caption doesn't have to disappear when I move the mouse out from the user over the caption). I don't want the puppet component to become bigger when the caption is added (it becomes visible), because the puppets have to stay nearby each other, I cannot resize the objects. So.. I need some guidelines to do it. More precisely: 1) Should I add the components in MXML or pure actionscript ? 2) If I use MXML, should I add also the caption to the flex model, and make it invisible and then change the value with actionscript ? What's the common way to implement it ? thanks

  • Flex RGBA colors in CSS

    Hello all, I am trying to style a DataGrid component so that the background is transparent (Flex 4). Rgba colors work fine if I make "alternatingItemColors" an attribute on the component, but if I try to declare it in my css stylesheet, I cannot declare the alpha value. Works (mxml): <mx:DataGrid id="songGrid" width="800" height="529" dataProvider="{songs}" itemClick="handleRowClick(event);" x="145" y="168" headerStyleName="dataGridHeader" alternatingItemColors="[0xFFFFFFFF, 0xFFFFFFFF]"> Doesn't Work (css): mx|DataGrid { alternatingItemColors: #FFFFFFFF, #FFFFFFFF; } If I enter the values as "0xFFFFFFFF", I get a parse error, because it's not proper css (of course, most of flex's css isn't proper css, but I digress...). So, is there any way to declare the alpha value of these colors in the css?

  • Connecting flex/php to Active Directory

    Is there a way to connect my flex web application to Active Directory, and get the logged username? Right now we have a PHP script connected to the flex application, that gets user/pass input from the user and checks if there's such user in the AD, and that the password is correct. I don't want to ask for user/pass, but to make the application get the domain username that connected to it, so I could use it (check if the user has access to my application and such). Is there a way to do so?

    Hello... I want to ask you a question about Flex, the program for parsing code. Supposing I have an instruction like this one, in the rules part: "=" BEGIN(attribution); <attribution>{var_name} { fprintf(yyout, "="); ECHO; } <attribution>";" BEGIN(INITIAL); {var_name} is a regular expression that matches a variable's name, and all I want to do is to copy at the output all the attribution instructions, such as a = 3; or b = a; My rule though cannot write with fprintf the left member of the attribution, but only = 3; or =a; One solution for that might be that, after I make the match "=" and I am in the attribution state, to go 2 positions back as to get the left operand as well. How can I do that in Flex?

  • How to make sliding button sidebar in Flex

    Hi, I'm fairly new to Flex. I want to make a button (icon) on the far right in the middle of the page that display a sliding side bar with multiple buttons in it when you hover over it. I want when the user hover out of the button bar it slides back again. Conceptually I got the basics of that to work. The issue I'm having is that when the user moves the mouse between the buttons in the sidebar it kicks in changing state and side bar slides back again. I tried using different types of containers and I got the same results. Any Advice?   • Flex SDK missing fundamental things

    All of a sudden Flash Builder 4 is missing all kinds of fundamental things and is generating incorrect errors. I've had the same issue yesterday, where I fixed it by downloading a new Flex SDK and importing that into FB. I did this again, but this time it fixed nothing. I don't think it's something I did, like removing critical references from the build path. The errors also appeared on projects I was not working on at the time. It occurs for ActionScript, Flex and Flex Library projects alike. Update 3: Well, i've singled the problem down to a single piece of code, though a very simple one. I can make a new workspace in FB and things work ok, then screw the workspace up forever by adding this code to a project. All projects will have errors and closing or even removing the faulty project does not change this. Making another new workspace (without the faulty code) makes my projects compile again. It appears to be an SDK problem, not Flash Builder. In order to do this I need to find the column chart on the stage using actionscript. I've currently got 3 lines of code in here to do this: var selectedTab:NavigatorContent = this.tn.selectedChild as NavigatorContent; var colChart:ColumnChart = selectedTab.getChildByName("CC") as ColumnChart; trace(selectedTab.getChildAt(0)); Getting to the active tab in the tabnavigator is easy enough, but then selectedTab.getChildAt(0) - which I was expecting to be the chart - is a "spark.skin.spark.SkinnableContainerSkin"...anyway, I can continue to traverse the tree using this somewhat annoying code, but I'm hoping there is an easier way. So in short, at run time I want to, with as little code as possible, identify the column chart in the active tab so I can redraw it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • DateTimeAxis - set Label to display Date + Time

    Hi, Is there a way in flex 3 chart component to display both the date and time using horizontal DateTimeAxis? Currently the DateTimeAxis element has an attribute dataunits which allows to set the value to any of "milliseconds|seconds|minutes|hours|days|weeks|months|years" but I want to display the label as "2009/09/15 06:00:00" which includes the day and the time too.     I am simply trying to hide a datatip on a chart if the hit data item (yfield item) is == 101 for two differnt series an areaseries and a line series. The following funciton works in IE but throws an error in firefox.   • Preventing Flex application caching in browser (multiple modules)

    I have a Flex application with multiple modules. When I redeploy the application I was finding that modules (which are deployed as separate swf files) were being cached in the browser and the new versions weren't being loaded. So i tried the age old trick of adding ?version=xxx to all the modules when they are loaded. The value xxx is a global parameter which is actually stored in the host html page: var moduleSection:ModuleLoaderSection; moduleSection = new ModuleLoaderSection(); moduleSection.visible = false; moduleSection.moduleName = moduleName + "?version=" + MySite.masterVersion; In addition I needed to add ?version=xxx to the main .swf that was being loaded. Since this is done by HTML I had to do this by modifying my AC_OETags.js file as below : function AC_FL_RunContent(){ var ret = AC_GetArgs ( arguments, ".swf?mv=" + getMasterVersion(), "movie", "clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" , "application/x-shockwave-flash" ); AC_Generateobj(ret.objAttrs, ret.params, ret.embedAttrs); } This is all fine and works great. I just have a hard time believing that Adobe doesn't already have a way to handle this. Given that Flex is being targeted to design modular applications for business I find it especially surprising. What do other people do? I need to make sure my application reloads correctly even if someone has once per session selected for their 'browser cache checking policy'.
