  • cannot convert from 'cli::array<Type> ^' to 'cli::array<Type> ^[]'

    - by user1576628
    I'm pretty new to C++/CLI and I am trying to convert a System::String to a System::Char array. Here's what I have so far: private: System::Void modeToolStripMenuItem_Click(System::Object^ sender, System::EventArgs^ e) { Mode frmMode; if(frmMode.ShowDialog() == System::Windows::Forms::DialogResult::OK){ array <Char>^ load [] = gcnew array<Char>(txtbxName->Text->ToCharArray()); } } txtbxName is a textbox inside a the form. Supposedly, this should work, but I get the compiler error: error C2440: cannot convert from 'cli::array<Type> ^' to 'cli::array<Type> ^[]' for the fourth line of the snippet.

  • Unable to cast object of type 'System.Object[]' to type 'System.String[]'

    - by salvationishere
    I am developing a C# VS 2008 / SQL Server website application. I am a newbie to ASP.NET. I am getting the above error, however, on the last line of the following code. Can you give me advice on how to fix this? This compiles correctly, but I encounter this error after running it. DataTable dt; Hashtable ht; string[] SingleRow; ... SqlConnection conn2 = new SqlConnection(connString); SqlCommand cmd = conn2.CreateCommand(); cmd.CommandText = "dbo.AppendDataCT"; cmd.Connection = conn2; SingleRow = (string[])dt.Rows[1].ItemArray; My error: System.InvalidCastException was caught Message="Unable to cast object of type 'System.Object[]' to type 'System.String[]'." • TypeDescriptor.GetProperties() vs Type.GetProperties()

    - by Eric
    Consider the following code. Object obj; PropertyDescriptorCollection A = TypeDescriptor.GetProperties(obj); PropertyInfo[] B = obj.GetType().GetProperties(); // EDIT* I'm trying to understand the difference between A and B. From what I understand TypeDescriptor.GetProperties() will return custom TypeDescriptor properties, where as Type.GetProperties() will only return intrinsic "real" properties of the object. Is this right? If obj doesn't have any custom TypeDescriptor properties then it just defaults to also returning the literal intrinsic properties of the object. * Original second line of code before EDIT (had wrong return value): PropertyDescriptorCollection B = obj.GetType().GetProperties();

  • Repeater itemdatabound event value type and reference type

    - by Sune
    Im trying to bind a list with datetime objects to my repeater. if (e.Item.ItemType == ListItemType.AlternatingItem || e.Item.ItemType == ListItemType.Item) { DateTime actualDate = e.Item.DataItem as DateTime; } When I want access the itemdatabound event on the repeater Then I get an errormessage which says that DateTime is a valuetype and not a reference type. My solution is that a wrap the datetime in a custom object (reference type) and pass that to the repeater datasource instead of the datetime. But Im wondering if there are other solutions where the repeater takes valuetypes (DateTime objects)........

  • Implementation of a general-purpose object structure (property bag)

    - by Thomas Wanner
    We need to implement some general-purpose object structure, much like an object in dynamic languages, that would give us a possibility of creating the whole object graph on-the-fly. This class has to be serializable and somehow user friendly. So far we have made some experiments with class derived from Dictionary<string, object> using the dot notation path to store properties and collections in the object tree. We have also find an article that implements something similar, but it doesn't seem to fit completely into our picture either. Do you know about some good implementations / libraries that deal with a similar problem or do you have any (non-trivial) ideas that could help us with our own implementation ? Also, I probably have to say that we are using .NET 3.5, so we can't take advantage of the new features in .NET 4.0 like dynamic type etc. (as far as I know it's also not possible to use any subset of it in .NET 3.5 solution).

  • stringtemplate .net dynamic object

    - by Mark Milford
    Hi I am using string template to render some content, but the content may be variable so not sure how to pass it in (using .net / c#) Basic idea is I have a List which need to end up as parameters, e.g. List<KeyValuePair<string, object>> ret = new List<KeyValuePair<string, object>>(); ret.Add(new KeyValuePair<string, object>("elem1", true)); ret.Add(new KeyValuePair(string, object>("elem2", false)); Now I want these to show up in string template as: $item.elem1$ $item.elem2$ I can get them to be $elem1$ or $elem2$ but i need them inside of a structure. So I in effect need to convince the string template setAttribute that I'm passing in an object with properties elem1 and elem2 when in fact I have a List of KeyValuePairs. Thanks

  • accessing embedded object with jquery not working in firefox 3.6

    - by taber
    Hi, this code in my plugin used to work just fine: jQuery('#embedded_obj', context).get(0).getVersion(); and in html... <object id="embedded_obj" type="application/x-versionchecker-1.0.0.1"</object Basically trying to get the properties from an embedded object. But it looks like get(0) is returning an html object instead of the actual embedded object. For example, if I do: var launcher = jQuery('#embedded_obj', context).get(0); for(prop in launcher){ alert(prop + ': ' + launcher[prop]); } ... it alerts things like "getElementByNode," "scrollWidth," "clientLeft," "clientTop" etc. Again this worked before Firefox 3.6. Has anyone else seen this or have any ideas/suggestions? Thanks!

  • Convert Option[Object] to Option[Int] Implicitly

    - by wheaties
    I'm working with legacy Java code which returns java.lang.object. I'm passing it into a function and I'd like to do some implicit conversions as such: implicit def asInt( _in:Option[Object] ) = _in asInstanceOf[ Option[Int] ] implicit def asDouble( _in:Option[Object] = _in asInstanceOf[ Option[Double] ] private def parseEntry( _name:String, _items:Map[String,Object] ) = _name match{ case docName.m_Constants => new Constants( _items get( Constants m_Epsilon ), _items get( Constant m_Rho ), _items get( Constants m_N ) ) Technically it goes on but I keep getting the same errors: expected Int, Option[Object] found. How have I done my implicits wrong? I was hoping it would do the transformation for me instead of me having to write "asInstanceOf" each and every time.

  • Haskell: type inference and function composition

    - by Pillsy
    This question was inspired by this answer to another question, indicating that you can remove every occurrence of an element from a list using a function defined as: removeall = filter . (/=) Working it out with pencil and paper from the types of filter, (/=) and (.), the function has a type of removeall :: (Eq a) => a -> [a] -> [a] which is exactly what you'd expect based on its contract. However, with GHCi 6.6, I get gchi> :t removeall removeall :: Integer -> [Integer] -> [Integer] unless I specify the type explicitly (in which case it works fine). Why is Haskell inferring such a specific type for the function?

  • differences between using wmode="transparent", "opaque", "window" for an embedded object on webpage

    - by Jian Lin
    when embedding a Flash object with the <object and <embed tag, there is an attribute called "wmode". It seems that most of the time, wmode="transparent" is the same as wmode="opaque" as the Flash doesn't actually have any transparent color so that the bottom HTML element is to be shown. As a result, "opaque" should be faster than "transparent" since it require less processing for transparency, yet most of the time i see Flash object embedded with "transparent" instead of "opaque". "opaque" is needed so that other HTML element won't be covered up by the Flash object. (such as a menu item that pops up an extra sub-menu won't be covered up by the Flash object). By the way, is there formal documentation for wmode's "opaque", "transparent", and "window"? I was only able to find blogs that describe it but not the formal documentation. thanks.

  • Get subclass type from projection with NHibernate

    - by TigerShark
    Hi I am trying to do a projection on a type called Log. Log references a superclass called Company. Each company type is mapped with table per subclass. Is it possible for me to get the type of Company when I do a projection on Log? I currently have an Enum property (which is not mapped) on each subclass, so I can perform switches on Company types, but since it is not mapped to anything, I can't do a projection on it. I have tried Projections.Property("log.Company.class") but that does not work :( PS: I couldn't find a lot of appropriate tags for this question. If anyone have an idea for more specific tags, please tell me.

  • What type of data is this JavaScript code!?

    - by SolidSnakeGTI
    Hello, Well, I'm completely new to JavaScript. Can you please tell me what type of data is this JavaScript code: var options = { sourceLanguage: 'en', destinationLanguage: ['hi', 'bn', 'fa', 'gu', 'kn', 'ml', 'mr', 'ne', 'pa', 'ta','te','ur'], shortcutKey: 'ctrl+g', transliterationEnabled: true }; I've reviewed JavaScript arrays, but it doesn't seem to be a traditional array. Still don't know if it's some kind of arrays or another data type!! Additionally, is there any way to set individual elements to that data type such as setting array elements individually. Thanks in advance

  • C++ min heap with user-defined type.

    - by bsg
    Hi, I am trying to implement a min heap in c++ for a struct type that I created. I created a vector of the type, but it crashed when I used make_heap on it, which is understandable because it doesn't know how to compare the items in the heap. How do I create a min-heap (that is, the top element is always the smallest one in the heap) for a struct type? The struct is below: struct DOC{ int docid; double rank; }; I want to compare the DOC structures using the rank member. How would I do this? I tried using a priority queue with a comparator class, but that also crashed, and it also seems silly to use a data structure which uses a heap as its underlying basis when what I really need is a heap anyway. Thank you very much, bsg

  • Scope of object properties & methods

    - by Anish
    In the article Show love to the object literal, it's said: When we have several scripts in a page, the global variables & functions will get overwritten if their name repeats. One solution is to make the variables as properties & functions as methods of an object, and access them via the object name. But will this prevent the issue of variables getting into the global namespace? <script> var movie = { name: "a", trailer: function(){ //code } }; </script> In the above code which elements gets added to the global namespace? a) Just the object name - movie b) Object name as well as the properties and methods inside it – movie, movie.name, movie.trailer()

  • DataTable C# Empty column type

    - by Dested
    I am trying build a DataTable one row at a time using the following code. foreach (var e in Project.ProjectElements[hi.FakeName].Root.Elements()) { index = 0; object[] obj=new object[count]; foreach (var holdingColumn in names) { string d = e.Attribute(holdingColumn.Key).Value; obj[index++] = d; } dt.Rows.Add(obj); } The problem is the DataTable has types tied to the columns. Sometimes im passing null (or an empty string) in that object index and it is telling me that it cant be converted properly to a DateTime (in this case). My question is what should I default this value to, or is there some way to have the DataTable ignore empty values.

  • Resolving type parameter values passed to ancester type using reflection

    - by Tom Tucker
    I've asked a similar question before, but this one is much more challenging. How do I find a value of a specific type parameter that is passed to an ancestor class or an interface implemented by one of its ancestor classes using reflection? I basically need to write a method that looks like this. // Return the value of the type parameter at the index passed to the parameterizedClass from the clazz. Object getParameterValue(Class<?> clazz, Class<?> parameterizedClass, int index) For the example below, getParameterValue(MyClass.class, Map.class, 1) would return String.class public class Foo<K, V> implements Map<K, V>{ } public class Bar<V> extends Foo<Integer, V> { } public class MyClass extends Bar<String> { } Thanks!

  • slowly rotate an object towards another object

    - by numerical25
    I have an object that points in the direction of another object (i.e. it rotates to the direction that the second objects x and y coordinates are at) below is the code I use. var distx = target.x - x; var disty = target.y - y; var angle:Number = Math.atan2(disty, distx); var vx:Number = Math.cos(angle) * cspeed; var vy:Number = Math.sin(angle) * cspeed; rotation = angle * 180/Math.PI; x += vx; y += vy; as you can see. Not only does it rotate towards the target object, but it also moves towards it too. When I play the movie, the object instantly points to the targeted object and moves towards it. I would like for it to slowly turn towards the object instead of instantly turning towards it. anyone know how to do this.

  • c# object initializer complexity. best practice

    - by Andrew Florko
    I was too excited when object initializer appeared in C#. MyClass a = new MyClass(); a.Field1 = Value1; a.Field2 = Value2; can be rewritten shorter: MyClass a = new MyClass { Field1 = Value1, Field2 = Value2 } Object initializer code is more obvious but when properties number come to dozen and some of the assignment deals with nullable values it's hard to debug where the "null reference error" is. Studio shows the whole object initializer as error point. Nowadays I use object initializer for straightforward assignment only for error-free properties. How do you use object initializer for complex assignment or it's a bad practice to use dozen of assigments at all? Thank you in advance!

  • Template type deduction with a non-copyable class

    - by Evan Teran
    Suppose I have an autolocker class which looks something like this: template <T> class autolocker { public: autolocker(T *l) : lock(l) { lock->lock(); } ~autolocker() { lock->unlock(); } private: autolocker(const autolocker&); autolocker& operator=(const autolocker&); private: T *lock; } Obviously the goal is to be able to use this autolocker with anything that has a lock/unlock method without resorting to virtual functions. Currently, it's simple enough to use like this: autolocker<some_lock_t> lock(&my_lock); // my_lock is of type "some_lock_t" but it is illegal to do: autolocker lock(&my_lock); // this would be ideal Is there anyway to get template type deduction to play nice with this (keep in my autolocker is non-copyable). Or is it just easiest to just specify the type?

  • Scala: "Parameter type in structural refinement may not refer to an abstract type defined outside th

    - by raichoo
    Hi, I'm having a problem with scala generics. While the first function I defined here seems to be perfectly ok, the compiler complains about the second definition with: error: Parameter type in structural refinement may not refer to an abstract type defined outside that refinement def >>[B](a: C[B])(implicit m: Monad[C]): C[B] = { ^ What am I doing wrong here? trait Lifter[C[_]] { implicit def liftToMonad[A](c: C[A]) = new { def >>=[B](f: A => C[B])(implicit m: Monad[C]): C[B] = { m >>= (c, f) } def >>[B](a: C[B])(implicit m: Monad[C]): C[B] = { m >> a } } } IMPORTANT: This is NOT a question about Monads, it's a question about scala polymorphism in general.   • implementing type inference

    - by deepblue
    well I see some interesting discussions here about static vs. dynamic typing I generally prefer static typing, due to compile type checking, better documented code,etc. However I do agree that they do clutter up the code if done the way Java does it, for example. so Im about to start building a language of my own and type inference is one of the things that I want to implement, in a functional style language... I do understand that it is a big subject, and Im not trying to create something that has not been done before, just basic inferencing... any pointers on what to read up that will help me with this? preferably something more pragmatic/practical as oppose to more theoretical category theory/type theory texts. If there's a implementation discussion text out here, with data structures/algorithms, that would just be lovely much appreciated

  • C# Generic method type argument inference

    - by CaptainCasey
    Is there any way that I can generalise the type definitions here? Ideally, I'd like to be able to change the type of 'testInput' and have test correctly infer the type at compile time. public static void Run() { var testInput = 3; var test = ((Func<int, int>) Identity).Compose<int,int,int>(n => n)(testInput); Console.WriteLine(test); } public static Func<T, V> Compose<T, U, V>(this Func<U, V> f, Func<T, U> g) { return x => f(g(x)); } public static T Identity<T> (this T value) { return value; }

  • Interview question: difference between object and object-oriented languages.

    - by Bar
    My friend was asked the following question: what's the difference between object language and object-oriented language? It's a little unintelligible question. What does term «object language» correspond to? Does that mean «pure» object-oriented language, like the Wikipedia article says: Languages called "pure" OO languages, because everything in them is treated consistently as an object, from primitives such as characters and punctuation, all the way up to whole classes, prototypes, blocks, modules, etc. They were designed specifically to facilitate, even enforce, OO methods. Examples: Smalltalk, Eiffel, Ruby, JADE, VB.NET.

  • In C#: How to declare a generic Dictionary with a type as key and an enumeration of that type as val

    - by Marcel
    Hi all, I want to declare a dictionary that stores typed IEnumerable's of a specific type, with that exact type as key, like so: (Edited to follow johny g's comment) private IDictionary<Type, IEnumerable<T>> _dataOfType where T: BaseClass; //does not compile! The concrete classes I want to store, all derive from BaseClass, therefore the idea to use it as constraint. The compiler complains that it expects a semicolon after the member name. If it would work, I would expect this would make the later retrieval from the dictionary simple like: IEnumerable<ConcreteData> concreteData; _sitesOfType.TryGetValue(typeof(ConcreteType), out concreteData); How to define such a dictionary?

ArrayList<Object> favourites; I want to find an object in the array based on it's "description" property. public Item finditem(String description) { for (Object x : favourites) { if(description.equals(x.getDescription())) { return Object x; else { return null; Can someone please show me how I would write this code. Thanks.
