  • jQuery getScript function with frames

    Hello.. I'm a novice at Javascript/Jquery programming, so an apology if this is a simple/silly question. I am trying to use the jQuery .getScript() function to refresh part of an existing webpage. This webpage must be run on a local file system, and a large amount of the formatting is done using frames. Right now, there’s three main frames- a sidebar which displays possible “scopes” to choose from, a main frame which displays the majority of the contents of the webpage, and a footer frame. The main entry into the page is in an index.html file, which loads a sidebar.html, main.html, and footer.html file into each of the respective frames. In turn, the main.html has a number of javascript files which it loads, the main being a main.js, which contains numerous functions to format/process the contents for this main window. After loading this javascript file, main.html loads a few javascript files, which contain the data which is going to be displayed in the main frame. These files that are loaded have a fixed data structure, and are dependent on the functions that were loaded by the main.js file. Loading the webpage works fine now, but when a user tries to switch to another “scope”, the whole webpage is reloaded to make the switch. The only difference in the webpage is the content in the main.js frame, loaded in by a different set of .js files. Enough text, let’s look at some code. When the webpage loads, I tried to add a simple call to the getScript function in a .js file at the index.html level which handles switching scopes. This file, newFile, has different data definitions than the previously loaded oldFile.js which was loaded in the main.html file. $.getScript(/js/newFile.js); However this doesn’t work, since newFile.js depends on a parseData() function which is in main.js. If I open firebug up, parseData is not located in the dom tab, which I assume is related to some scoping issue with the main.html and main.js file existing in a different frame. I tried to do some targeting to the correct “frame” but I don’t think I understand jQuery enough to know what is happening. $(window.parent.frames[0]).getScript(/js/newFile.js); Any suggestions? If I were to type into firebug console “parseData” it can not find it: “ReferenceError: parseData is not defined” However, if I type in window.parent.frames[1].parseData, it can find the function. Sorry about all the rambling and poor understanding of javascript. Hopefully someone can provide some assistance! Thanks

    I have some jquery which reveals and hides new div's based on which button is pressed. Rather than buttons i would like to insert my own text/image and have them work in the same way, revealing and hiding the new windows.   • Using JQuery Lightbox within AJAX loaded content

    Hey. So this is probably a very noob problem but I'm not good enough to fix it. Basically... I have a gallery that I am loading into the page via AJAX. It looks simply like this: <div id="gallery"> <a href="Image1.jpg"><img src="Image1Thumb.jpg" /></a> <a href="Image2.jpg" title=""><img src="Image2Thumb.jpg" /></a> </div> But because it's being loaded in as AJAX content, JQuery/Lightbox is not working and I've no idea how can I get the script to run/recognise this newly loaded content.     In my web application I am using ajax and now I'd like the back and forward browser buttons to work. Can someone tell me how I can use a history plugin so that the brwoser buttons will work? I don't really care which plugin it is, as long as the browser buttons work. I prefer an easy to use plugin.

My problem is, after saving the files with their titles as explained in tutorial, I cannot show them in the final table, because I don't know how to reach the formData's values.   • jQuery: Scroll the window then addClass() - how to callback

    Inside a jQuery event handler, I would like to scroll the window and then add a class to something. This is my code: $('#foo').click(function() { window.scrollTo(y); $('#bar').addClass('active'); }); $(window).scroll(function() { $('#bar').removeClass('active'); }); Notice I have another handler to remove that same class whenever the window is scrolled. The scrolling part works fine, but seems to run asynchronously, so removeClass() happens after addClass() but before the scrolling is finished. I don't know how to do this in plain javascript. I know there is a jQuery scrollTop() function that does the same thing (but seems to have cross-browser issues), but it doesn't accept a callback. What I really need is a callback to add the class after the scrolling is finished. thanks!

    Hi, I'm using JQuery to select some elements on a page and then move them around in the DOM. The problem I'm having is I need to select all the elements in the reverse order that JQuery naturally wants to select them. For example: <ul> <li>Item 1</li> <li>Item 2</li> <li>Item 3</li> <li>Item 4</li> <li>Item 5</li> </ul> I want to select all the li items and use the .each() command on them but I want to start with Item 5, then Item 4 etc. Is this possible?     hi all, I'm using jQuery to parse some XML, like so: function enumOptions(xml) { $(xml).find("animal").each(function(){ alert($(this).text()); }); } enumOptions("<root><animal>cow</animal><animal>squirrel</animal></root>"); This works great. However if I try and look for nodes called "option" then it doesn't work: function enumOptions(xml) { $(xml).find("option").each(function(){ alert($(this).text()); }); } enumOptions("<root><option>cow</option><option>squirrel</option></root>"); There's no error, just nothing gets alerted, as if the find isn't finding anything. It only does it for nodes called option everything else I tested works ok! I'm using the current version of jQuery - 1.4.2. Anyone any idea? TIA. bg

  • Controlled hyperlink hijaxing

    I am working on a web application. I have a data grid with a 'commands' column that has hyperlinks for some common CRUD operations (Edit, Delete, etc). When a user clicks on say the Edit hyperlink, I retrieve the unique identifier for the data grid row and load a modal form dialog (i am using jQuery UI) so the user is able to edit the row data and subsequently close the modal form dialog at which point I refresh the page. Now, before the page is done refreshing, there's a chance that a user might click on the edit link again, and whenever that happens, 'hijaxing' fails. My question is how can i check that if a user clicks on a hyperlink and the page is refreshing, i delay until it is done refreshing, then i allow the 'hijax' to kick in.

  • jQuery AJAX & an ASP.NET web service works locally but not remotely

    Interesting one here. I have an ASP.NET 1.1 project that contains a web service in it. I'm using jQuery's AJAX functionality to call some services from the client. This is what my code looks like: $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: 'foo.asmx/functionName', data: 'foo1=' + foo1 + '&foo2=' + foo2, dataType: "xml", success: function(xml) { //do something with my xml data }, error: function(request, error){ //handle my error } }); This works great when I run the site from my IDE on localhost. However, when I deploy this site to any other server I get a parsererror error from jQuery. It does not appear to even call my service as I dropped in some code to write a log file to disk and it's not making it there. The same exact XML should be returned from both my localhost and the server I deployed to. Any ideas?

  • link_to_remote and jquery accordion

    I have a standard jquery ui accordion and I load content into it using a link_to_remote tag (in the accordion header). All this works fine. The problem is, once the content is loaded, I dont want a ajax call, I just want the accordion to fold, like it should normally do.
