  Hey Everyone, so I've watched http://railscasts.com/episodes/43-ajax-with-rjs but I have a question: In my view I have the following: <div id="testly"> <%= render :partial => "test" %> </div> This works. Using create.rjs to change the content in this div, I have the following in my create.rjs file: page.replace_html :testly, :partial = 'test' Simply put, this should just refresh the partial right? But its not working... Would love any suggestions!

  I have dataTable in my page. Initially I want it to be hidden, and show after fetching data by AJAX request. I know how to fetch data and put into table, but I don't know how to show table if it is hidden. • Is it valid syntax to have ordered and unordered lists in sequence in markdown?

  I just wrote some markdown and it doesn't seem to render correctly. Is it legal syntax to have an ordered list, followed by newlines, then followed by an unordered list? Or is this a bug in bluecloth? For example: 1. One 2. Two 3. Three * Apple * Banana * Carrot Bluecloth creates a single <ul> and nests apple, banana and carrot as <li>'s under it. Stackoverflow's markdown parser does this too. Am I just doing it wrong? Surely this is a common usage case...

  I've got a links array that I'm saving to a database. The problem is that the records aren't saved in the order of the array ie links[1] is saved before links[2] and so on...   Setup I am using Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect Professional edition 7.5: http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/ and MS PowerPoint. Problem I have various audiences for presentations requiring display in MS PowerPoint -- ranging from managers to developers, whose depth of technical knowledge and requirements for knowledge varies. Question I have tried various settings for fonts, colors, and so on, but displaying a diagram with any level of detail (even simple class diagrams). These diagrams are very difficult to fit into a PowerPoint slide and render well when using a projector or a Live Meeting. Am I on the wrong path here, or is there a better/correct way to accomplish this? Thank you for the help, -bn

  This is a follow up to my previous question. Consider that I write a function with the following prototype: int a_function(Foo val); Where foo is believed to be a type defined unsigned int. This is unfortunately not verifiable for lack of documentation. So, someone comes along and uses a_function, but calls it with an unsigned int as an argument. Here the story takes a turn. Foo turns out to actually be a class, which can take an unsigned int as a single argument of unsigned int in an explicit constructor. Is it a standard and reliable behavior for the compiler to render the function call by doing a type conversion on the argument. I.e. is the compiler supposed to recognize the mismatch and insert the constructor? Or should I get a compile time error reporting the type mismatch.

• Any difference between lazy loading Javascript files vs. placing just before </body>

  Looked around, couldn't find this specific question discussed. Pretty sure the difference is negligible, just curious as to your thoughts. Scenario: All Javascript that doesn't need to be loaded before page render has been placed just before the closing </body> tag. Are there any benefits or detriments to lazy loading these instead through some Javascript code in the head that executes when the DOM load/ready event is fired? Let's say that this only concerns downloading one entire .js file full of functions and not lazy loading several individual files as needed upon usage. Hope that's clear, thanks.

  I have a situation where clicking a link in one column on the datatable opens A update FORM in the same page. The problem is when I hit the submit button for update, the render is set to false again of that update panel which was previously set true by parameter passed clicking the link. I tried htmlhiddenInput and did setValue and getvalue but the value is lost. Is there any way I can save that parameter send from link, when clicked, even after submitting the form. I achieved it doing session but I dont wanna use session. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

• Table Disobeys W3C Box Model, Ie8 Ignores Fixed Table Width !

  Hi, I'm having hard time with tables and column widths. Update: I'm using XHTML Strict 1.0. The page is: http://www.pro-turk.net/try The first problem I have is, I have a column with a fixed width of 100px and 4px padding, but it disobeys my padding depending on the value. The column width (as the distance between two borders according to W3C Box Model) is 156 px even if padding is 0 or 4. Only the position of the text changes. According to W3C Box Model ( available at www.pro-turk.net/box_model.png ), borders and paddings aren't included in WIDTH attribute, so why does it render wrongly ? The second problem is, when you look the page I gave with IE8, the first cell in the second row has 150px fixed width, but ie shows it about 50% of the total table width regardless of what i say.

  Hi, I'm using django-uni-forms to display my fields, with a rather rudimentary example straight out of their book. When I render the form fields using <form>{%csrf_tag%} {%form|as_uni_form%}</form>, everything works as expected. However, django-uni-form Helpers allow you to generate the form tag (and other helper-related content) using the following syntax -- {% with form.helper as helper %}{% uni_form form helper%}{%endwith%} -- This creates the <form> tag for me, so there's nowhere to embed my own CSRF_token. When I try to use this syntax, the form renders perfectly, but without a CSRF token, and so submitting the form fails every time. Does anyone have experience with this? Is there an established way to add the token? I much prefer the second syntax, for re-use reasons. Thanks!

  Hiya All, I have a rather strange bug which i can't make sense of that is apearing in webkit based browsers (chrome and safari). When this page http://bluprintliving.mammalworld.com/turnmill-street loads for the first time the content seems to jump out of the container but only at the end of the render. on refresh it stays in and behaves. Generally the page in cache and out of cache looks different. Anyone have any ideas or clues they can shed on this issue? Much appreciated.   Hello, I am using a fileContentResult to render a file to the browser. It works well except that it throws an exception when the fileName contains international characters. I remember reading somewhere that this feature does not support international characters but I am sure there mustbe a workaround or a best practice people follow in cases the application needs to upload files in countries other than US.   What is the most performant way of displaying a table of data in Flex? Are there alternatives to the native Flex Datagrid Component? Alternatives that are noted for their rendering speed? Are there other ways to display a table? I have a datagrid with roughly 70 lines and 7 columns of simple text data. This is currently created and loaded in memory. This is being refreshed rapidly (about 800 msec) and there is a slight lag in other animations when it is rendering the table... So I am trying to cut down this render time.

• C# GridView dynamically built columns with textboxes ontextchanged

  My page is a bulk order form that has many products and various size options. I've got a gridview that has a 3 static columns with labels. There are then some dynamically built columns. Each of the dynamically built columns have a textbox in them. The textbox is for quantity. Trying to either update the server with the quantity entered each time a textbox is changed (possibly ontextchanged event) or loop though each of the rows column by column and gather all the items that have a quantity and process those items and their quantities all at once (via button onclick). If I put the process that builds the GridView behind a if(!Page.IsPostBack) then the when a textchanged event fires the gridview only gets the static fields and the dynamic ones are gone. If I remove the if(!Page.IsPostBack) the process to gather and build the page is too heavy on processing and takes too long to render the page again. Some advice would be appreciated. Thanks

• Is there a way to avoid IE7 quirks mode while rendering XML + CSS?

  I've got some DocBook documentation styled with a CSS xml-stylesheet declaration. It looks great in Firefox, but IE7 doesn't seem to understand the CSS child selectors (e.g. section > title { ... }). I think this is because IE is running in quirks mode to render this XML, and older versions of IE didn't support that CSS syntax at all. The pages I found on the web all seem to focus on HTML and XHTML doctypes and how IE will behave given various permutations of these values. I couldn't find any information about straight XML + CSS. Worse yet, it seems that random XML documents always end up in quirks mode, no matter what format or stylesheet directives they have. Is XML rendering in IE doomed to be IE5.5 compatible? Will I really have to rewrite my CSS?

• Possible to InvalidateVisual() on a given region instead of entire WPF control?

  I have a complex WPF control that draws a lot of primitives in its OnRender (it's sort of like a map). When a small portion of it changes, I'd only like to re-issue render commands for the affected elements, instead of running the entire OnRender over. While I'm fine with my OnRender function's performance on a resize or whatever, it's not fast enough for mouse hover-based highlighting of primitives. Currently the only way I know how to force a screen update is to call InvalidateVisual(). No way to send in a dirty rect region to invalidate. Is the lowest granularity of WPF screen composition the UI element? Will I need to do my renders of primitives into an intermediate target and then have that use InvalidateVisual() to update to the screen?
