  • JavaScript problems in one IIS server but not another

    Hi everyone, I have a problem that only occurs in one environment. On this particular page, somewhere in the top half of the element, an array is created and populated. This is later used in the onfocus event handlers of various controls. I use Firebug to debug the page and discovered the problem. In our dev environment the array is indeed created and populated. In our staging environment this block of script is not executed! I put a break point where the array is instantiated and it's never hit in staging, but is hit in dev. I'm really puzzled what aspects of the two environments can possibly affect this? We use aptimize on the staging box but it has been turned off for this particular website. I compared the page sources and they're identical! The only difference is bits of content since they are served by a CMS. Any ideas please? I'm quite stuck on this. Cheers, Dany.

I use special codes to define inputing smileys in the text. I want to count only the length of the text ignoring special code.     I am trying to call showUpload(); from within two setTimeouts. Neither works. It seems to be out of scope and I'm not sure why.   • Using a Javascript Variable & Sending to JSON

    Hello all! I'm trying to take a URL's hash value, send it through a function, turn that value into an object, but ultimately send the value to JSON. It will either return as a very large object (1:"{",2:"k") or not return at all. I doubt that it is impossible to accomplish, but I've exhausted most of the ways I can think of. Other ways I've tried were "{" + cur + "}" as well as cur.toObject(), however, none seemed to get the job done. Thanks for the help!

    Hi all, I can't seem to figure out what is wrong with my code. Maybe it would be simpler to just compare date and not time. Not sure how to do this either and I searched but couldn't find my exact problem. BTW, when I display the two dates in an alert, they show as exactly the same. The most promising one I've seen is window.scrollY, but even when scrolled to the bottom of the page, it never matches the value of window.innerHeight.   • Why doesn't javascript function aliasing work?

    I have some Firebug console function calls that I wanted to disable when Firebug wasn't enabled, e.g. console isn't defined. This works fine in IE6 and FF3, but not in Chrome: var log; if(console){ log = console.log; }else{ log = function(){ return; } } I get an "Uncaught TypeError: Illegal Invocation" in Chrome =/ I read about the issue here, where you have to apply a context, which is kind of new to me... and I can't seem to figure how to accomplish the above in all browsers...

  • Invert a string: Recursion vs iteration in javascript

    Hi all, one month ago I've been interviewed by some google PTO members. One of the questions was: Invert a string recursively in js and explain the running time by big O notation this was my solution: function invert(s){ return (s.length > 1) ? s.charAt(s.length-1)+invert(s.substring(0,s.length-1)) : s; } Pretty simple, I think. And, about the big-o notation, I quickly answered O(n) as the running time depends linearly on the input. - Silence - and then, he asked me, what are the differences in terms of running time if you implement it by iteration? I replied that sometimes the compiler "translate" the recursion into iteration (some programming language course memories) so there are no differences about iteration and recursion in this case. Btw since I had no feedback about this particular question, and the interviewer didn't answer "ok" or "nope", I'd like to know if you maybe agree with me or if you can explain me whether there could be differences about the 2 kind of implementations.     Dear experts, I was trying to dynamically generate DOM elements using JS. I read from Douglas Crockford's book that DOM is very very poorly structured. Anyways, I would like to create a number of DIVISION elements and store the reference into an array so it could be accessed later. Here's the code for(i=0;i<3;i++){ var div=document.body.appendChild(document.createElement("div")); var arr=new Array(); arr.push(div); } Somehow this would not work..... There is only 1 div element created. When I use the arr.length to test the code there is only 1 element in the array. Is there another way to accomplish this? Thanks in advance

    I've read this question to figure out how to set float:none on an element which already has float:right set with class. I used element.style.cssFloat = "none", but this just added a new style property cssFloat which didn't over-ride the existing float:right. I've now fixed it using the adding/removing classes method. But is there a way of over-riding existing float rules in ie without having to use classes?

I have an element inserted where the cursor should be and also have left and right arrows working, but I can't seem to find a way to find: Start and end of a line for the home and end keys The next line up or down for the up/down arrows. I see document.elementFromPoint, but this doesn't get me a Range object. The Range object itself seems rather useless when it comes to using pixel positions.

    Im trying to select all the li tags of the document and check if it hasClassName('yes') so if it has, it will remove it. But im having a TypeError: Object [object HTMLLIElement], has no method 'hasClassName' error.
