  • jquery live problem

    - by Kay
    Hi, I have a website which uses jquery and lots of mouseover/mouseout effect. So far I used the .bind() method of jquery but if you have 1000 event handlers, this is slowing down your browser a lot. So, I want to move to use .live or .delegate. One part of my portal site is a chat area. User can set chat messages which will then be displayed in a simple table. There is a feature that if you move the mouse over a chat message a trash can will appear allowing you to delete the message (if it is by you or you are a moderator). The trash bin is in the same table cell as the chat message. The problem: Using .bind() it worked like a charm. This is the old code: function CreateChatMessageContextMenu(ctrl, messageID, message, sender) { var a = document.createElement("a"); a.href = "javascript:RemoveChatMessage(" + messageID + ");" a.id = 'aDeleteChatMessage' + messageID; a.style.display = 'none'; var img = document.createElement("span"); img.className = "sprite-common messages-image sprite-common-btnDelete"; a.appendChild(img); ctrl.appendChild(a); $(ctrl) .bind('mouseover', function(event) { $('#aDeleteChatMessage' + messageID).show() }) .bind('mouseout', function(event) { $('#aDeleteChatMessage' + messageID).hide() }); return; } 'ctrl' is the reference to a table cell. Now, using .live() the trashbin also appears but it is flickering a lot and when I move the mouse over the trashbin, it is disappearing or inactive. I have the feeling that more events are thrown or something. It seems like the 'mouseout' is thrown when moving over the trashbin, but the thrashbin is inside the tablecell so mouseout should not be triggered. The new code is as follows. $(document).ready { $('.jDeleteableChatMessage').live('mouseover mouseout', function(event) { var linkID = '#aDelete' + event.target.id; if (event.type == 'mouseover') { $(linkID).show(); } else { $(linkID).hide(); } return false; }); } function CreateChatMessageContextMenu(ctrl, messageID, message, sender) { if (!UserIsModerator && (UserLogin != sender)) return; ctrl.id = 'ChatMessage' + messageID; var deleteString = 'Diese Chatnachricht löschen'; if (UserLang == '1') deleteString = 'Delete this chat message'; var a = document.createElement("a"); a.href = "javascript:RemoveChatMessage(" + messageID + ");" a.id = 'aDeleteChatMessage' + messageID; a.style.display = 'none'; var img = document.createElement("span"); img.className = "sprite-common messages-image sprite-common-btnDelete"; img.alt = deleteString; img.title = deleteString; a.appendChild(img); ctrl.appendChild(a); $(ctrl).addClass('jDeleteableChatMessage'); } I add a class to tell jQuery which chat cell have a trash bin and which don't. I also add an ID to the table cell which is later used to determine the associated trash bin. Yes, that's clumsy data passing to an event method. And, naturally, there is the document.ready function which initialises the .live() method. So, where is my mistake?

  • How to Load In Content with jQuery?

    - by ClarkSKent
    Hello, I am trying to add ajax functionality to my pagination so the content loads in the same page instead of the user having to navigate to another page when clicking the page links. I should mention that I am using this php pagination class. Being new to jquery, I am unsure of how to properly do this with the pagination class. This is what the main page looks like: <?php $categoryId=$_GET['category']; echo $categoryId; ?> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.1/jquery.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="jquery_page.js"></script> <?php //Include the PS_Pagination class include('ps_pagination.php'); //Connect to mysql db $conn = mysql_connect('localhost', 'root', 'root'); mysql_select_db('ajax_demo',$conn); $sql = "select * from explore where category='$categoryId'"; //Create a PS_Pagination object $pager = new PS_Pagination($conn, $sql, 3, 11, 'param1=value1&param2=value2'); //The paginate() function returns a mysql //result set for the current page $rs = $pager->paginate(); //Loop through the result set echo "<table width='800px'>"; while($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($rs)) { echo "<tr>"; echo"<td>"; echo $row['id']; echo"</td>"; echo"<td>"; echo $row['site_description']; echo"</td>"; echo"<td>"; echo $row['site_price']; echo"</td>"; echo "</tr>"; } echo "</table>"; echo "<ul id='pagination'>"; echo "<li>"; //Display the navigation echo $pager->renderFullNav(); echo "</li>"; echo "</ul>"; ?> <div id="loading" ></div> <div id="content" ></div> <a href="#" class="category" id="marketing">Marketing</a> <a href="#" class="category" id="automotive">Automotive</a> <a href="#" class="category" id="sports">Sports</a> Any help on this would be great. Thanks.

  • expanding/collapsing div using jQuery

    - by Hristo
    I'm trying to expand and collapse a <div> by clicking some text inside the <div>. The behavior right now is very odd. For example, if I click the text after the <div> is expanded... the <div> will collapse and then expand again. Also, if I click somewhere inside the div after it is expanded, it will collapse again, and I think that is because I'm triggering the animation since the <div> being animated is inside the wrapper <div>. Here's the code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"> <title>Insert title here</title> <!-- Links --> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="style.css" /> <!-- Scripts --> <script type="text/javascript" src="jQuery.js"></script> <script> // document script $(function(){ // login box event handler $('#login').click(function() { $('#loginBox').toggle( function() { $('.loginBox').animate({ height: '150px' }, '1000' ); $('#username').show(); $('#password').hide(); $('#placeHolder').show(); }, function() { $('.loginBox').animate({ height: '50px' }, '1000' ); $('#username').hide(); $('#password').hide(); $('#placeHolder').hide(); } ); }); // username field focus and blur event handlers $('#username').focus(function() { if($(this).hasClass('placeHolder')){ $(this).val(''); $(this).removeClass('placeHolder'); } }); $('#username').blur(function() { if($(this).val() == '') { $(this).val('Username'); $(this).addClass('placeHolder'); } }); // password field focus and blur event handlers $('#placeHolder').focus(function() { $(this).hide(); $('#password').show(); $('#password').focus(); $('#password').removeClass('placeHolder'); }); $('#password').blur(function() { if($(this).val() == '') { $('#placeHolder').show(); $(this).hide(); } }); }); </script> </head> <body> <div id="loginBox" class="loginBox"> <a id="login" class="login">Proceed to Login</a><br /> <div> <form> <input type="text" id="username" class="placeHolder" value="Username" /> <input type="password" id="password" class="placeHolder" value="" /> <input type="text" id="placeHolder" class="placeHolder" value="Password" /> </form> </div> </div> </body> </html> Any ideas? Thanks, Hristo

  • jQueryMobile: how to work with slider events?

    - by balexandre
    I'm testing the slider events in jQueryMobile and I must been missing something. page code is: <div data-role="fieldcontain"> <label for="slider">Input slider:</label> <input type="range" name="slider" id="slider" value="0" min="0" max="100" /> </div> and if I do: $("#slider").data("events"); I get blur, focus, keyup, remove What I want to do is to get the value once user release the slider handle and having a hook to the keyup event as $("#slider").bind("keyup", function() { alert('here'); } ); does absolutely nothing :( I must say that I wrongly assumed that jQueryMobile used jQueryUI controls as it was my first thought, but now working deep in the events I can see this is not the case, only in terms of CSS Design. What can I do? jQuery Mobile Slider source code can be found on Git if it helps anyone as well a test page can be found at JSBin As I understand, the #slider is the textbox with the value, so I would need to hook into the slider handle as the generated code for this slider is: <div data-role="fieldcontain" class="ui-field-contain ui-body ui-br"> <label for="slider" class="ui-input-text ui-slider" id="slider-label">Input slider:</label> <input data-type="range" max="100" min="0" value="0" id="slider" name="slider" class="ui-input-text ui-body-null ui-corner-all ui-shadow-inset ui-body-c ui-slider-input" /> <div role="application" class="ui-slider ui-btn-down-c ui-btn-corner-all"> <a class="ui-slider-handle ui-btn ui-btn-corner-all ui-shadow ui-btn-up-c" href="#" data-theme="c" role="slider" aria-valuemin="0" aria-valuemax="100" aria-valuenow="54" aria-valuetext="54" title="54" aria-labelledby="slider-label" style="left: 54%;"> <span class="ui-btn-inner ui-btn-corner-all"> <span class="ui-btn-text"></span> </span> </a> </div> </div> and checking the events in the handler anchor I get only the click event $("#slider").next().find("a").data("events");

  • Select subsets of elements, and wrap them in a div

    - by scullytr
    Hello, I have a set of selected elements in jQuery: <div id="element1" class="element"></div> <div id="element2" class="element"></div> <div id="element3" class="element"></div> <div id="element4" class="element"></div> <div id="element5" class="element"></div> <div id="element6" class="element"></div> <div id="element7" class="element"></div> <div id="element8" class="element"></div> <div id="element9" class="element"></div> <div id="element10" class="element"></div> <div id="element11" class="element"></div> <div id="element12" class="element"></div> I would like to wrap these elements into groups of five like so: <div class="wrapper"> <div id="element1" class="element"></div> <div id="element2" class="element"></div> <div id="element3" class="element"></div> <div id="element4" class="element"></div> <div id="element5" class="element"></div> </div> <div class="wrapper"> <div id="element6" class="element"></div> <div id="element7" class="element"></div> <div id="element8" class="element"></div> <div id="element9" class="element"></div> <div id="element10" class="element"></div> </div> <div class="wrapper"> <div id="element11" class="element"></div> <div id="element12" class="element"></div> </div> Is there an efficient/easy way to do this? I imagine it would look something like this: $('.element').wrapAll('<div class="wrapper"></div>'); But with a selector that selects the elements in groups of five. Thanks!

  • Not able to get siblings value from table row

    - by Sullan
    Hi All, I am trying to get values from adjacent columns, when a radio button is clicked for that row. I'm able to do so, but the problem I'm facing, when there are more elements in the radio button column, then i am getting null values(i.e 2nd row is not working). Please help...Code is all follows <table id="dist_list" class="data"> <tbody> <tr> <td> <input type="radio" value="636406" name="distRG" id="radio_7" /></td> <td class="selected">Company 1</td> <td class="siteId">1234</td> <td class="siteName">First Company Name</td> </tr> <!-- Not able to get values from this row, since there are more elements in it --> <tr> <td> <span class="jqTransformRadioWrapper"><a rel="distRG" class="jqTransformRadio" href="#"></a> <input type="radio" value="636406" name="distRG" id="radio_2" /> </span></td> <td class="selected">Company 2</td> <td class="siteId">2345</td> <td class="siteName">Second Company Name</td> </tr> <tr> <td><input type="radio" value="636406" name="distRG" id="radio_3" /></td> <td class="selected">Company 3</td> <td class="siteId">3456</td> <td class="siteName">Third Company Name</td> </tr> <tr> <td><input type="radio" value="213584" name="distRG" id="radio_4" /></td> <td class="selected">Company 4</td> <td class="siteId">4567</td> <td class="siteName">Fourth Company Name</td> </tr></tbody></table> jQuery script $("input[name=distRG]").click(function() { var owner = $(this).parent().siblings('td.selected').text(); var siteId = $(this).parent().siblings('td.siteId').text(); var siteName = $(this).parent().siblings('td.siteName').text(); alert(owner); alert(siteId); alert(siteName); });

  • How to add fadeIn and fadeOut to idTabs plugin's JS snippet?

    - by iMagdy
    Hi, I am using the jQuery plugin idTabs [ [www.sunsean.com/idTabs][1] ] and it allows me to line tabs and tabs' content via element#id and element href="#id" Ok, so I use this snippet: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { $("#requestPool").idTabs(); $(".tabs").idTabs(); $(".miniTabs").idTabs(".active"); $(".switchers").idTabs(".activePanel"); }); </script> To run the plugin on two different areas: div#requestPool this has it's own tabs and it's own tab content, Also the div.tabs which is another place and has it's own tabs and it's own tabs content. The div.miniTabs and div.switchers are the divs that includes the tabs links (tabs headers) and I putted them in the snippet to change the default selected tab class from .selected to .active and .activePanel Now, what I would love to add is a nice fadeIn and fadeOut effects to the content of my tabs while browsing through them. Thanks Here is the HTML code for one of the tabbed areas: <div id="requestPool"> <!-- The tabs heads --> <div class="miniTabs"> <a href="#today" class="active">Today</a> <!-- First active tab --> <a href="#tomorrow">Tomorrow</a> <a href="#friday">Friday</a> <a href="#saturday">Saturday</a> <a href="#sunday">Sunday</a> <a href="#monday">Monday</a> <a href="#tuesday">Tuesday</a> </div> <!-- The tabs contents (the ones that I want them to fade in and out while browsing through them using the tabs above) --> <div id="today"class="miniTab"></div> <div id="tomorrow"class="miniTab"></div> <div id="friday"class="miniTab"></div> <div id="saturday"class="miniTab"></div> <div id="sunday"class="miniTab"></div> ...etc the week days </div> Thanks very much (again the tabs are working very fine, but without the fade effect which I want to have).

  • Is it possible to use .data() as a search criteria?

    - by Andrew
    I have a pretty complex chat application going on, and there are multiple chat panes, chat entries, chat submits, etc. going on in the same window. At first I was going to do something like.... <input type="text" class="chattext" id="chattext-42"> <input type="text" class="chattext" id="chattext-93"> <input type="button" class="chatsubmit" id="chatsubmit-42"> <input type="button" class="chatsubmit" id="chatsubmit-93"> ... etc. (of course this is vastly simplified, they'd be in separate divs, separate visibilities, etc) So, when they clicked on a .chatsubmit, it would then get the id of that and find the last two characters for the chat ID. This presents some problems, as it would require rewrites if IDs changed lengths, and seems just plain inelegant to me. I then remembered the .data() facility in jQuery... I thought, maybe I could do it more like this: <input type="text" class="chattext"> ... and add a .data("id", 42) to this one <input type="button" class="chatsubmit"> ... and add a .data("id", 42) So that when they click chatsubmit, it gets the ID, and then finds the chattext with that ID and processes it. But looking at the documentation, I don't see an easy way to search by this. For example, let's say the event target in this case is the chatsubmit with the data('id') of 42... var ID = $(event.target).data('id'); // Sets it to 42 var chattext = ... And here I run into the trouble. How do I find which DOM element matches a class of chattext and a data('id') of 42? Is there any easy method, or do I have to search every .chattext for the one with an id of 42? Or is there another easy way of doing this? I did consider the possibility of the container div having the ID, which would make it, I think,? slightly easier to get. But if this works, it could be dealing with things in other container divs as well, making that not a long-term solution. Edit: Literally seconds after posting this, I found this: http://james.padolsey.com/javascript/extending-jquerys-selector-capabilities/ which includes information on extending the selector to data. So I'll try that out, and in the meantime, is this a completely foolhardy way of handling this?

  • JQM dialog is opening in new page instead of dialog

    - by K D
    Thank you for taking the time to read my question. I'm trying to get a dialog box to open using Jquery mobile. I followed the documentation and used the data-rel="dialog" notation along with the data-transition="pop". Instead of a dialog appearing on the same page, I get a brand new page with the dialog appearing. Can someone kindly assist me on how to fix this functionality. Here is my code for the initial main page: <article> <ul data-role="listview" data-split-icon="star" data-split-theme="d" data-inset="true"> <li><a href="#black_seed_desc" data-rel="dialog" ><img src="black_seed.jpg"/> <h3>Black Seed Oil</h3> </a> <a href="#black_seed_purchase" data-rel="dialog" data-transition="pop">Purchase Black Seed Oil</a> </li> </ul> </article> Here is my code for the dialog page: <div data-role="dialog" id="black_seed_purchase" data-theme="c"> <section data-role="content"> <h1>Purchase Black Seed Oil?</h1> <p>By purchasing Black Seed Oil you will receive an email receipt copy sent to you for your reference.</p> <a href="#purchase_blackseed" data-inline="true" data-corners="true" data-rel="back" data-role="button" data-shadow="true" data-iconshadow="true" data-wrapperrels="span"> <span> <span>Buy: $49.99</span> <span>&nbsp;</span> </span> </a> <a href="#" data-role="button" data-rel="back" data-inline="true" data-corners="true" data-wrapperrels="span" data-shadow="true" data-iconshawdow="true"> <span> Cancel </span> </a> </section> </div> Here is a working example. http://jsfiddle.net/Gajotres/w3ptm/?

  • Jquery.get() not returning any data

    - by David Waters
    Hi I am trying to scrape other people web pages (for the forces of good not evil). I am currently trying to do this with javascript/jquery from with in a browser. I am finding that the no data is returned from the jquery.get() success call back function. My code. $.get('http://www.google.co.uk/', function (data, textStatus, XMLHttpRequest){ alert("status " + textStatus); alert('data:' + data); window.data=data; window.textStatus=textStatus; window.httpReq = XMLHttpRequest}); In my mind this should simply do a get on google store the data in window.data and we are all good. What happens is we get textStatus == success and data == "". the status on the XMLHttpRequest is 4(success). I have looked at the network traffic using a transparent proxy (Charles) and everything looks find there http status 200 plenty of data being returned. I am running this just from the Firebug console in Firefox. Any ideas?

  • Spring MVC jQuery remote validation

    - by raulsan
    Hi, I am using Spring MVC on the server side, but in one of the pages I decided to create an AJAX validation with jQuery rather than the default Spring validation. Everything works great, except when I have to do a remote validation to check if a "title" already exists. For the javascript I have the following: var validator = $("form").validate({ rules: { title: { minlength: 6, required: true, remote: { url: location.href.substring(0,location.href.lastIndexOf('/'))+"/checkLocalArticleTitle.do", type: "GET" } }, html: { minlength: 50, required: true } }, messages: { title: { required: "A title is required.", remote: "This title already exists." } } }); Then, I use Spring-Json to make this validation and give a response: @RequestMapping("/checkLocalArticleTitle.do") public ModelAndView checkLocalArticleTitle(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException { Map model = new HashMap(); String result = "FALSE"; try{ String title = request.getParameter("title"); if(!EJBRequester.articleExists(title)){ result = "TRUE"; } }catch(Exception e){ System.err.println("Exception: " + e.getMessage()); } model.put("result",result); return new ModelAndView("jsonView", model); } However, this does not work and the field "title" is never validated. I think the reason for this is that I am returning an answer in the manner: {result:"TRUE"} when in fact, the answer should be: {"TRUE"} I don't know how to return a single response like this one using a ModelAndView answer. Another thing that is not working is the customized message for the "remote" validation: messages: { title: { required: "A title is required.", remote: "This title already exists." } }, The required message works, but not the remote message. I looked around, but I didn't see many people using Spring and jQuery at the same time. I would appreciate some help here.

  • Geting SelectList to MVC view using AJAX/jQuery

    - by Chris
    Hi all. I have a C# MVC application which is populating a dropdown based on a date selected. Once the date is selected I am sending it to an action via AJAX/jQuery. The action gets a list of items to return for that date. Here is where my problem is. I have done it previously where I render a partial view from the action and pass it the SelectList as the model. However, I really just want to do it inline in the original view, so I'm hoping there is some way I can return the SelectList and from there do some magic Javascript/JQuery to put it into a dropdown. Has anybody ever done this before? If so, what do I on the client end after calling the load() to return the SelectList? I've done something like this previously, when I was just returning a string or other value to be rendered as straight text: $("#returnTripRow").load("/Trip.aspx/GetTripsForGivenDate?date=" + escape(selection)); But I'm not sure how to intercept the data and morph it into am Html.DropDown() call, or equivalent. Any ideas? Thanks, Chris

  • jQuery urlencode/decode patch help

    - by jeerose
    Hi Gang, I'm using this jQuery urlencode and urldecode plugin - very simple and easy to use but it doesn't, in its original form, remove + from the string. The one comment on the home page suggests a patch but I don't know how to implement it. Can anyone help me out? The Page: http://www.digitalbart.com/jquery-and-urlencode/ //URL Encode/Decode $.extend({URLEncode:function(c){var o='';var x=0;c=c.toString(); var r=/(^[a-zA-Z0-9_.]*)/; while(x<c.length){var m=r.exec(c.substr(x)); if(m!=null && m.length>1 && m[1]!=''){o+=m[1];x+=m[1].length; }else{if(c[x]==' ')o+='+';else{var d=c.charCodeAt(x);var h=d.toString(16); o+='%'+(h.length<2?'0':'')+h.toUpperCase();}x++;}}return o;}, URLDecode:function(s){var o=s;var binVal,t;var r=/(%[^%]{2})/; while((m=r.exec(o))!=null && m.length>1 && m[1]!=''){ b=parseInt(m[1].substr(1),16); t=String.fromCharCode(b);o=o.replace(m[1],t);}return o;} }); The proposed Patch: function dummy_url_decode(url) { // fixed -- + char decodes to space char var o = url; var binVal, t, b; var r = /(%[^%]{2}|\+)/; while ((m = r.exec(o)) != null && m.length > 1 && m[1] != '') { if (m[1] == '+') { t = ' '; } else { b = parseInt(m[1].substr(1), 16); t = String.fromCharCode(b); } o = o.replace(m[1], t); } return o; } Thanks!

  • jQuery Autocomplete - Multicolumn and Return Data rather than Value

    - by MarkRobinson
    I am currently using the DevBridge jQuery Autocomplete plugin - it works fine as is, however I would like to display the returned information in a multi-column view, but yet when clicked only return the first value. HTML <form class="form" action="index.php" onsubmit="alert('Submit Form Event'); return false;"> <div id="selection"></div> <input type="text" name="q" id="query" class="textbox" /> </form> Javascript jQuery(function() { var options = { serviceUrl: '/autocompleterequestcall.php', maxHeight:400, width:600, fnFormatResult: fnFormatResult, deferRequestBy: 0 //miliseconds }; a1 = $('#query').autocomplete(options); }); So I expect I would need to use the fnFormatResult to somehow display the multicolumn values, which are separated by |, ie. REFERENCEID | POSTCODE | ADDRESS_LINE_1 | SURNAME I would have liked to wrap the whole return up as a <table> but I can't figure out where to put the start <table> and end </table> tags, or do I just replace | with </div><div>. Then, when an item is selected, instead of returning REFERENCEID | POSTCODE | ADDRESS_LINE_1 | SURNAME I would just like to see REFERENCEID

  • jQuery plugin for Event Driven Architecture?

    - by leeand00
    Are there any Event Driven Architecture jQuery plugins? Step 1: Subscribing The subscribers subscribe to the event handler in the middle, and pass in a callback method, as well as the name of the event they are listening for... i.e. The two green subscribers will be listening for p0 events. And the blue subscriber will be listening for p1 events. Step 2: The p0 event is fired by another component to the Event Handler A p0 event is fired to the Event Handler The event handler notifies it's subscribers of the event, calling the callback methods they specified when they subscribed in Step 1: Subscribing. Note that the blue subscriber is not notified because it was not listening for p0 events. Step 3: The p1 event is fired a component to the Event Handler The p1 event is fired by another component Just as before except that now the blue subscriber receives the event through its callback and the other two green subscribers do not receive the event. Images by leeand00, on Flickr I can't seem to find one, but my guess is that they just call it something else in Javascript/jquery Also is there a name for this pattern? Because it isn't just a basic publisher/subscriber, it has to be called something else I would think.

  • jquery Plugins/Validation using submitHandler

    - by Eyla
    Greeting, I'm using jquery Plugins/Validation library. I want to allow validation on submitting but I'm not sure where I should insert the code: I know that I can user submitHandler for that but after reading the document I had hard time to implement it so I need your help guys. jquery validation is working ok but the problem that the form still submitted even there are invalid inputs. here is my validation function and I want to know how can I make it to not submit the form if there is invalid input. by the way, I'm using asp.net button for submitting the form. here is my code: $(document).ready(function() { $("#aspnetForm").validate({ rules: { "<%=txtHomePhone.UniqueID %>": { phonehome: true }, "<%=txtMobileHome.UniqueID %>": { mobilephone: true }, "<%=txtFaxHome.UniqueID %>": { faxhome: true }, "<%=txtEmailHome.UniqueID %>": { email: true }, "<%=txtZipCodeHome.UniqueID %>": { ziphome: true }, //work "<%=txtPhonework.UniqueID %>": { phonework: true }, "<%=txtMobileWork.UniqueID %>": { mobilework: true }, "<%=txtFaxWork.UniqueID %>": { faxwork: true }, "<%=txtEmailWork.UniqueID %>": { email: true }, "<%=txtWebSite.UniqueID %>": { url: true }, "<%=txtZipWork.UniqueID %>": { zipwork: true } }, errorElement: "mydiv", wrapper: "mydiv", // a wrapper around the error message errorPlacement: function(error, element) { offset = element.offset(); error.insertBefore(element) error.addClass('message'); // add a class to the wrapper error.css('position', 'absolute'); error.css('left', offset.left + element.outerWidth()); error.css('top', offset.top - (element.height() / 2)); } });

  • jQuery dropdown is really jumpy

    - by Matthew Westrik
    Hi, I'm making a dropdown menu with jquery (some of the code is borrowed from a tutorial by someone, although I forget who...). When I use the dropdown, it slides up and down really fast, and I can't figure it out. What do you think? HTML <div id="nav"> <ul class="topnav"> <li><a class="selected" href="#" title="home">home</a></li> <li><a href="events/" title="events calendar">events</a></li> <li><a href="photos/" title="photo gallery">photos</a></li> <li><a href="staff/" title="faculty">staff</a> <ul class="subnav"> <li><a href="#">Luke</a></li> <li><a href="#">Darth Vader</a></li> <li><a href="#">Princess Leia</a></li> <li><a href="#">Jabba the Hutt</a></li> </ul> </li> <li><a href="contact/" title="contact">contact</a></li> jQuery $(document).ready(function(){ $("ul.subnav").parent() .hover(function() { $(this).parent().find("ul.subnav").slideDown('fast').show(); //Drop down the subnav on hover... $(this).parent() .hover(function() { }, function(){ $(this).parent().find("ul.subnav").slideUp('slow'); }); $(this).parent().find("ul.subnav") .hover(function() { }, function(){ $(this).parent().find("ul.subnav").slideUp('slow'); }); }).hover(function() { $(this).addClass("subhover"); }, function(){ $(this).removeClass("subhover"); });

  • Traversing/Manipulating new window from parent window with jquery

    - by Anthony
    I found a question already with a possible solution, but I had already tried the method suggested before reading it, and it even says it's inconsistent. So I guess I'm wondering why this doesn't work: $("img").click(function() { var imgwindow = window.open('imgwin.html','','width=460,height=345'); alert(imgwindow.find("img").attr("src")); }); The goal is to set the new window's img to the same src as the image that the user clicked to open the new window. But in the above scenario, I'm just trying to tap into the new window to get what it's already-set src. I have imgwin.html already written with a default src for the image, so it should alert that url. Instead I just get undefined. I also tried the following (which should be identical on the back end), but with the same results: $("img").click(function() { var imgwindow = window.open('imgwin.html','','width=460,height=345'); alert($("img",imgwindow).attr("src")); }); I even tried variations of wrapping the imgwindow variable in $() in case somehow jquery wasn't picking up on the variable as a DOM element. The only thing I can guess is that since window.open() is a method, jquery doesn't treat it like a DOM element, even though all documentation from basic javascript tutorials treat the variable as both a method to open the window and the pointer to the window's inner DOM.

  • Jquery cookie plugin - conditional content determined by cookie being set

    - by Dave
    Hello I have a sign up form that is displayed to all new site visitors. If a user fills out the form, the next time they visit the site, I would like to display a "welcome back" message where the form would usually sit. I am trying to do this via the jquery cookie plugin (http://plugins.jquery.com/project/Cookie). My form would look like this: <div id="sign_up_form_wrapper"><form id="sign_up" action="" method="POST" name="form"> <input type="checkbox" name="checkbox" id="checkbox" value="1">&nbsp; I accept the terms and conditions</a> <br /><br /><input type="submit" value="ENTER"> </form></div> And I am setting my cookie here: <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript"> $().ready(function() { $('#sign_upm').submit(function(e) { e.preventDefault(); if ($('#sign_up input[name=checkbox]').is(':checked')) { $.cookie('agreed_to_terms', '1', { path: '/', expires: 999999 }); } }); }); </script> That will set the cookie when a user has checked the box, but now I need to do somehting like this: if the cookie has been set, do this: <div id="sign_up_form_wrapper"> <p>Welcome back, John</p> </div> otherwise do this: <div id="sign_up_form_wrapper"> <!-- full form code here --> </div> Any ideas or pointers would be very appreciated, thanks.

  • jQuery Tooltip positioning issues

    - by Nimbuz
    HTML: <a href="#" rel="tooltip-1">Open Tooltip</a> <div id="tooltip-1">Tooltip Content</div> jQuery: xOffset = $('#tooltip-1').height() + 10; yOffset = -30 ; $("a[rel=tooltip-1]").hover(function(e){ this.t = this.attr("href"); $("body").append("<p id='tooltip'>"+ this.t +"</p>"); $("#tooltip") .css("top",(e.pageY - xOffset) + "px") .css("left",(e.pageX + yOffset) + "px") .fadeIn("fast"); }, function(){ this.t = ""; $("#tooltip").remove(); }); $("a[rel=tooltip-1]").mousemove(function(e){ $("#tooltip-1") .css("top",(e.pageY - xOffset) + "px") .css("left",(e.pageX + yOffset) + "px"); }); Two Issues: Tooltip div (#tooltip-1) doesn't hide on mouseout. Since the tooltip div will always have the same ID as REL, I'd like to modify the above jQuery so that it takes target DIV ID automatically. Thanks in advance for your help.
