• SQL SERVER – Reduce the Virtual Log Files (VLFs) from LDF file

  Earlier, I wrote a quite note on SQL SERVER – Detect Virtual Log Files (VLF) in LDF. Because of this I got responses suggesting too many VLFs are bad for log file. This prompts to a simple question: “How many is ‘too many’ VLFs?” I suggest that you go and read an article written by Kimberly over here. I am sure that you are going to have a clear understanding of what a good number for your VLFs is from that article. If you have lots of VLFs, you can reduce them right away using the following method: (I am just attempting to write a working script over here.) • Deployed Qt5 Application Doesn't Print or Show Print Dialog

  I'm experiencing Qt4 to Qt5 troubles. In my application when the user clicks the print button two things should happen, one is that a PDF gets written to disk (which still works fine in the new version, so I know that some of the printing functions are working properly) and the other is that a QPrintDialog should exec() and then send to a connected printer. I see the dialog when I launch from my development machine. The application launches on the deployed machine, but the QPrintDialog never shows and the document never prints. I am including print support. QT += core gui network webkitwidgets widgets printsupport I have been using Process Explorer to see what DLLs the application uses on my development machine, and I believe that everything is present. My application bundle includes: {myAppPath}\MyApp[MyApp.exe, Qt5PrintSupport.dll, ...] {myAppPath}\plugins\printsupport\windowsprintersupport.dll {myAppPath}\plugins\imageformats[ qgif.dll, qico.dll,qjpeg.dll, qmng.dll, qtga.dll, qtiff.dll, qwbmp.dll ] The following is the relevant code snippet: void PrintableForm::printFile() { //Writes the PDF to disk in every environment pdfCopy(); //Paper Copy only works on my dev machine QPrinter paperPrinter; QPrintDialog printDialog(&paperPrinter,this); if( printDialog.exec() == QDialog::Accepted ) { view->print(&paperPrinter); } this->accept(); } My first thought is that the relevant DLLs are not being found come print time, and that means that my application file system is incorrect, but I have not found anything that shows me a different file structure. • Read only file system

  I'm running Ubuntu 12.10, Upon opening any shell I get the following error: /home/jack/.rbenv/libexec/rbenv-init: line 87: cannot create temp file for here-document: Read-only file system I realised this wasn't simply a rbenv issue, as any file I try to write to returns an error saying the system is Read-only. I don't know how else to describe my problem, each time I boot up the system goes through a disk check, where it supposedly fixes several errors in my disk. Here is my /etc/fstab # <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass> proc /proc proc nodev,noexec,nosuid 0 0 # / was on /dev/sda1 during installation UUID=1cc4b2ab-a984-4516-ac25-6d64f5050244 / ext4 errors=remount-ro 0 1 # swap was on /dev/sda5 during installation UUID=4e0dfeae-701a-43ce-b5c6-65f15ab3d8e3 none swap sw 0 0 The entire file system is read-only.   Today we had an interesting problem with file copying. We wanted to use xcopy to copy a file from one location to another and rename the copied file but do this impersonating another user. Getting the impersonation to work was fairly simple, however we then had the challenge of getting xcopy to work. The problem was that xcopy kept prompting us with a prompt similar to the following… Does file.xxx specify a file name or directory name on the target (F = file, D = directory)? At which point we needed to press ‘Y’. This seems to be a fairly common challenge with xcopy, as illustrated by the following stack overflow link… One of the solutions was to do the following… echo f | xcopy /f /y srcfile destfile This is fine if you are running from the command prompt, but if you are triggering this from c# how could we daisy chain a bunch of commands…. • Embedded .swf file in .pfd-Ubuntu 10.04

  I have just finished a presentation in LaTeX. In this very .pdf file I have included a .swf animation(done with adobe flash CS5 in windows) which starts when you click on it. While I have already installed a relevant player(swfdec flash player) neither document viewer nor okular are able to reproduce it. I tried with my player to make sure that the file is not corrupted and the result was that it can be produced. I tried the same .pdf file in windows using adobe reader and there is no problem there. The embedded file can be reproduced with no problem. So I thought of installing adobe in ubuntu. I tried there to see if the problem was solved. Things got a bit better. Adobe could understand that there is something there, so when clicked I got a message that I had to get the proper player. When I clicked on a relevant button I expected to open my browser in a player's page. Instead nothing happened. If I place my mouse's cursor next to the space that defines my animation the is a "message" stating "Media File(application/x-shockwave flash)". The next step was to install Adobe Flash player, but I couldn't find the standallone player;only the browser's plugs... How can I get this .swf file play in pdf?

• How to make new file permission inherit from the parent directory?

  I have a directory called data. Then I am running a script under the user id 'robot'. robot writes to the data directory and update files inside. The idea is data is open for both me and robot to update. So I setup the permission and owner group like this drwxrwxr-x 2 me robot-grp 4096 Jun 11 20:50 data where both me and robot belongs to the 'robot-grp'. I change the permission and the owner group recursively like the parent directory. I regularly upload new files into the data directory using rsync. Unfortunately, new files uploaded does not inherit the parent directory's permission as I hope. Instead it looks like this -rw-r--r-- 1 me users 6 Jun 11 20:50 new-file.txt When robot tries to update new-file.txt, it fails due to lack of file permission. I'm not sure if setting umask helps. In anycase the new files does not really follow it. $ umask -S u=rwx,g=rx,o=rx I'm often confounded by Unix file permission. Do I even have a right plan? I'm using Debian lenny.

• How Do I Make A Small jQuery Confirm Replacement?

  I have a table row with a Delete link on it for deleting that row. I want to create a jQuery feature that pops up above that Delete link an "Are you sure?" yes/no confirm dialog, but in a very small size. How do I achieve this in the least lines of code in jQuery? I mean, I need to determine the x,y of the Delete link that was detected from a click, and then move (and fadeIn()) a DIV into that location. If they click anywhere on that page except Yes on the yes/no, the thing does a fadeOut(). If they click Yes, then it deletes the row with a fadeOut() effect. Note on this I don't need a modal screen dimmer, but the confirm needs to work modally. (Items above that are bolded are something I don't exactly know how to do. Items bolded and italicized are important to what I need to do.) I would think a widget like this would be critical to any Web 2.0 design, much like the Pines Notify feature seems essential.

  In SQL Server, you can use BCP command to export the result set to a csv file. In MySQL too, You can export data from a table or result set as a csv file in many methods. Here are two methods. Method 1 : Make use of Work Bench If you are using Work Bench as a querying tool, you can make use of it’s Export option in the result window. Run the following code in Work Bench SELECT db_names FROM mysql_testing; The result will be shown in the result windows. There is an option called “File”. Click on it and it will prompt you a window to save the result set (Screen shot attached to show how file option can be used). Choose the directory and type out the name of the file. Method 2 : Make use of OUTFILE command You can do the export using a query with OUTFILE command as shown below SELECT db_names FROM mysql_testing INTO OUTFILE 'C:/testing.csv' FIELDS ENCLOSED BY '"' TERMINATED BY ';' ESCAPED BY '"' LINES TERMINATED BY '\r\n'; After the execution of the above code, you can find a file named testing.csv in C drive of the server. It’s as big as 8MB I built it using sqlite3 in Mac OS X, inserted UTF-8 encoded strings (for I am using Korean), added android_meta table with ko_KR as locale, as instructed above. However, When I debug, it keeps showing IOException at length=myInput.read(buffer) I suspect it’s caused by trying to read a big file. If not, I have no clue why. I tested the same code using much smaller text file, and it worked fine. Can anyone help me out on this? I’ve searched many places, but no place gave me the clear answer, or good solution. Good meaning efficient or easy. I will try use BufferedInput(Output)Stream, but if the simpler one cannot work, I don’t think this will work either. Can anyone explain the fundamental limits in file input/output in Android, and the right way around it, possibly? I will really appreciate anyone’s considerate answer. Thank you. • Jquery UI Dialog - when opened IE7 Browser moves instantly to the bottom of the page

  Hello, i have been working on a new .net MVC site and have integrated some of the awesome jquery UI components. ive been testing it in IE8, FF, opera and Chrome and all looks well. Once I test in IE7, surprisingly its the dialogs that are causing a problem. basically what’s happening is that one you user clicks to open a dialog the page will scroll immediately to the bottom of the page. This is especially bad if the page is quite long. this only happens in IE7 (and probably 6 but im not even going there!). I have spend a few hours reading forums and it seems im not the only one. • Which tools to use and how to find file descriptors leaking from Glassfish?

  We release new code to production every week and Glassfish hasn't had any problems. This weekend we had to move racks at our hosting provider. There were not any code changes (they just powered off, moved, re-racked and powered on) but we're on a new network infrastructure and suddenly we're leaking file descriptors like a sieve. So I'm guessing there is some sort of connection attempting to be made which now fails due to a network change. I'm running Glassfish v2ur2-b04/AS9.1_02 on RHEL4 with an embedded IMQ instance. So I think this leak is in Glassfish or potentially IMQ. What approach should I take to tracking down these sockets of unknown protocol?   For two days I have tried to get vlc play this .bin file. I played it fine in windows xp using vlc. So I decided to install same vlc thats on my xp partition and it plays through Wine the file no problem. Xine says that the .bin is encrypted so I installed libdvdcss2 w32codecs ubuntu-restricted-codecs from Medibuntu still same issue. How can I fix this? I want to run this natively not through wine. I Even tried to change .bin to .mpg and .avi.

• Source code not matching uploaded HTML file

  I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but i'm having a hugely frustrating problem with Coda and my website (i'm not sure which one is causing the issue) I'm using Coda to make changes to my website, Coda uses built in FTP to save changes to your web page. So when you hit Save, it uploads the new file. I've been using Coda for months and never had a problem until now. I am making changes in the html of my index.php and hitting save, it's successfully uploading the file but no changes are reflected in the source code in ANY browser. I even logged into cPanel on my website, ie. www.example.com:2082 and looked at the file - the changes have been made successfully. But the actual webpage in browser's source code, no changes?? I have tried adding which made no difference. Interestingly i make changes to style.css and the changes are instant. I have emptied the cache on all of my browsers but i'm still having an issue. Does this sound like a Coda problem or has anyone heard of such a thing?

• Using an ActiveX control without a form/dialog/window in C++, VS 2008

  an ActiveX control generated by Visual Basic 6, very old stuff, it has a couple of methods and one event. now I have to use the control in C++, visual studio 2008, but I don't like to generate a form/dialog/window as constainer. I add some MFC class From ActiveX Control. Now the wrap class has all the methods defined in the ActiveX control. I definitely need add event handler to take care of the event fired by ActiveX control. With a form/dialgue/window, it could be done by below BEGIN_EVENTSINK_MAP ON_EVENT. My questions are 1. how to add the event handler without a form/dialgue/window. Is this impossible? 2. Could I manually add constructor in the ActiveX control wrap class, so I could use new operator to get an instance on the heap? The container's class name is used again in the AFX_EVENTSINK_MAP macro and the ON_EVENT macro.

• $().buttonset not working on dialog modal box JQUERY

  Hello everyone! I've done a dialog box that contains a form inside it, and I would like to add some jquery fancy items to it. I've been trying with $().buttonset() as I've done with most of my radio buttons in the application, in order to get a coherent IU for my application. The thing is that, even if following the rules specified, the buttons remain as a normal radio button, and not with the fancy interface. Do you know what could be the problem? This is the part of the form where I want the fancy radio buttons: <div id ="Replace"> <input type="radio" name="Replace" value = "true" id = "ReplaceYes" onclick = "setReplace(this)" /> <label for="ReplaceYes">Yes</label> <input type="radio" name="Replace" value = "false" checked="checked" id = "ReplaceNo" onclick = "setReplace(this)" /> <label for="ReplaceNo">No</label> </div> And then, as the previous part of code is in a partial view, invoked when showing the modal box, this is how I try to convert the buttons appearance: $("#Replace").buttonset(); The thing is that, debugging it I've seen that it goes through that part of the code, but it doesn't do what it's meant to do. • file cretaed using exec could not be accessed immediately after creation?

  HI I'm using exec in php to execute a command and it will create a .png file in a temp folder.. After creating that i'm trying to open that file and read contents and process them,, but i end up file could not read error..
