• latin1/unicode conversion problem with ajax request and special characters

  Server is PHP5 and HTML charset is latin1 (iso-8859-1). With regular form POST requests, there's no problem with "special" characters like the em dash (–) for example. Although I don't know for sure, it works. Probably because there exists a representable character for the browser at char code 150 (which is what I see in PHP on the server for a literal em dash with ord). Now our application also provides some kind of preview mechanism via ajax: the text is sent to the server and a complete HTML for a preview is sent back. However, the ordinary char code 150 em dash character when sent via ajax (tested with GET and POST) mutates into something more: %E2%80%93. I see this already in the apache log. According to various sources I found, e.g. http://www.tachyonsoft.com/uc0020.htm , this is the UTF8 byte representation of em dash and my current knowledge is that JavaScript handles everything in Unicode. However within my app, I need everything in latin1. Simply said: just like a regular POST request would have given me that em dash as char code 150, I would need that for the translated UTF8 representation too. That's were I'm failing, because with PHP on the server when I try to decode it with either utf8_decode(...) or iconv('UTF-8', 'iso-8859-1', ...) but in both cases I get a regular ? representing this character (and iconv also throws me a notice: Detected an illegal character in input string ). My goal is to find an automated solution, but maybe I'm trying to be überclever in this case? I've found other people simply doing manual replacing with a predefined input/output set; but that would always give me the feeling I could loose characters. The observant reader will note that I'm behind on understanding the full impact/complexity with things about Unicode and conversion of chars and I definitely prefer to understand the thing as a whole then a simply manual mapping. thanks

• image appears larger than bounding rectangle?

  Hello I'm implementing a custom print preview control. One of the objects it needs to display is an image which can be several pages high and wide. I've successfully divided the image into pages and displayed them in the correct order. Each "page" is drawn within the marginbounds. (That is, each page is sized to be the same as the marginBounds.) The problem I have is that the image the page represents exceeds the bottom margin. However if I draw a rectangle with the same dimensions as the image, at the same position as the image, the rectangle matches the marginbounds. Thus when drawn to the page (in print preview and printed page) the image is larger than a rectangle drawn based on the image dimensions. I.e. The image is drawn at the same size as e.MarignBounds and is drawn at e.MarginBounds.Location yet exceeds the bottom margin. How is this? • Can I add a portrait layout on top of a landscape Camera SurfaceView?

  My application should hold a camera preview surface. Now I need to have an overlay that holds a bunch of buttons. Due to usability, the user interface should be set to portrait view (or even better orientation aware). Is there a way to have a transparent layout (for buttons and other GUI elements) in portrait orientation? • PHP File Upload, using the FILES superglobal array

  Hello everybody, I just have a quick question. Let's say that I'm setting up an upload feature for a project. I'm using PHP5, and I was wondering if by using the $_FILES superglobal array, I could have access to the "tmp_name" array key , which is the temporary path and name of the file being uploaded to display a preview of the image, before moving it to the "uploads" folder in the server. What I had in mind is something like this: Use jQuery to detect when the "file" input filed changes (when the user selects an image file), then place an ajax call to upload the the file, which will move it to the temp folder even before I use "move_uploaded_file". If I can somehow access the "tmp_name" array key, I could probably put it into and "img" tag to display a preview. Later move the file to it's final location when the submit button is clicked. I'm not asking for any code examples or anything, since I'd be thrilled to accomplish this on my own, I just want to find out if there is access to that array key in any way. Thanks in advance.

  I'm trying to take the hex value chosen from a jQuery colorpicker plugin, and store it as a cookie using the jQuery cookie plugin. I just don't know the appropriate way to tie the two together (new to js and jQuery). • response.write only working IE for ASP.NET

  I'm using uploadify (http://www.uploadify.com/) to upload video to my site then convert them into *.flv using ffmpeg and play preview. But it dosen't fully working with firefox, chrome or safari. uploadify provides a onComplete interface, so when the script (.ashx, .php) used on your site for saving uploaded files. you can use response.write("blabla") or (echo "blabla") to invoke the javascript function that registed as OnComplete. i have test with few video files like avi, mpg, mp4, they are less then 50mb,and they all worked with all 4 browsers. However, when i was trying to upload a 75mb mp4 file, it worked in IE, but didn't working in other three. I can see the .flv file has been create in the upload folder, i can see debug messsage output after response.write("blabla"), but the javascript function was not invoked. i.e. the preview didn't play. anyone knows why? is there a timeout or something on response.write so after a period of time it wont work? e.g. 75mb file took longer time to convert than other smaller size file i tried. thansk

  The code below allows me to change a preview image outside the carousel widget so that it matches the element under the mouse. For example, if the user mouses over image2's thumbnail, the script updates .selectedImage so that it displays image2's full size version. I'd like to enhance it so that the #myThumbs options listing updates its "selected" option to match the carousel image that receives a click. Mouseover changes the preview image and click changes the select list to match the same name. I've tried: MSSQL Server Management Studio's Import Data feature Create an empty database Tasks - Import Data... .NET Framework Data Provider for Odbc Valid DSN (verified it connects) Copy data from one or more tables or views Check 1 VERY simple table Click Preview Get Error: The preview data could not be retrieved. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: ERROR [42000] [MySQL][ODBC 5.1 Driver][mysqld-5.1.45-community]You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '"table_name"' at line 1 (myodbc5.dll) A similar error occurs if I go through the rest of the wizard and perform the operation. The failed step is "Setting Source Connection" the error refers to retrieving column information and then lists the above error. It can retrieve column information just fine when I modify column mappings so I really don't know what the issue is. I've also tried getting various MySql tools to output ddl statements that MSSQL understand but haven't succeeded. • How can I move TinyMCE's toolbar into a modal popup?

  I'm using TinyMCE & jQuery and am having a problem moving TinyMCE's external toolbar to another location in the DOM. To further complicate things, there are multiple TinyMCE instances on the page. I only want the toolbar for the one that's currently being edited. Has anyone ever had success trying to do something like this? EDIT It's a Monday alright... it couldn't find the external toolbar because I was using children() instead of fetch(). There's still an issue in that: 1) Moving it is incredibly slow and 2) Once it moves, TinyMCE breaks. EDIT 2 A bit more clarification: The modal is draggable, thus making any purely-CSS workarounds a bit awkward...

  Hi Ok, after I ran into a dead end modifieing an existing Apple example for CoreData, I started completely new creating my own project and that worked fine,..... until I tried to access a related entity. So here is what I did. I created 2 entities, where one is just the detail information of the other one, so there is a one-2-one relationship. Entity #1, Stocks: name value details -- relationship to Entity #2 Entity #2, StockDetails: bank published stock -- relationship to Entity #1 Now, I created the "Managed Object Class" for both of the Entities. Next I put everything into a UITableViewController for a preview and another for a detail view. The preview just shows infos form Entity #1 (Stocks) and when selected it shows the detail view. Now here I also display the infos form Entity #1 (Stocks) but I want to show the Entity #2 (StockDetails) aswell. This is how I try to access the data : StockDetails *details_ = [stockinfo details]; And this gives me a EXC_BAD_ACCESS. So any idea what I am doing wrong here ? Thanks

  Hi everyone! The concept of what I'm trying to do is fairly simple. I have a grid of company logos loaded through XSLT from an XML document, each with their own unique links to the company profiles. I have a separate div on the page, essentially a "preview" box. What I want to do is this: I roll over a logo, and it loads the name of the company and a short description into the preview div. This content is loaded through XML. I have been messing around with the Jquery load() function, changing the target document to load on Hover—and it almost gets what I want, but it loads the whole target XML document into the div. How can I separate this target XML data into separate divs? (which I have styled differently) I'd assume I would make use of Ajax in some way. I want to load the <name> node into the name_div, and the <desc> node into the description_div, and have them update on hover. Thanks in advance for the help!

Header Frame, Left Bar frame, Footer & Main centre frame. Everything works in Explorer as it should.
