  • What are the recommended BEST CASE hardware requirements for TFS 2010

    Hi guys, i have installed TFS 2010 in a 2 server setup with an App Tier server and a SQL Server and am not 100% happy with the performance. Both are running in VM's on SAN disks and have been given the following virtual hardware each: Windows 2008 R2 1 CPU @ 2.8Ghz 2gb RAM what should i lift - neither machine is hammered but both do go up to 80% when people are doing things on them - should i add another CPU to each - usually this is now required in a VMWARE setup but i don't know if TFS 2010 takes advantage of an extra core??? thank you in advance :-)

    I wondered if there is a programming language which compiles to machine code/binary (not bytecode then executed by a VM, that's something completely different when considering typing) that features dynamic and/or weak typing, e.g: Think of a compiled language where: Variables don't need to be declared Variables can be created doing runtime Functions can return values of different types Questions: Is there such a programming language? (Why) not? I think that a dynamically yet strong typed, compiled language would really sense, but is it possible?

  • Netbeans Profiler failing for Google App Engine App

    When I try to run the netbeans profiler on my app engine project it says: runserver-profile: [java] Error occurred during initialization of VM [java] Could not find agent library in absolute path: C:\Program BUILD FAILED Target "Files\NetBeans" does not exist in the project I'm not sure if this is because its an app engine project or if its something else. Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

  • compiling opencv 2.4 on a 64 bit mac in Xcode

    I have an opencv project that I've been developing under ubuntu 12.04, on a parellels VM on a mac which has an x86_64 architecture. There have been many screen switching performance issues that I believe are due to the VM, where linux video modes flip around for a couple seconds while camera access is made by the opencv application. I decided to moved the project into Xcode on the mac side of the computer to continue the opencv development. However, I'm not that familiar with xcode and am having trouble getting the project to build correctly there. I have xcode installed. I downloaded and decompressed the latest version of opencv on the mac, and ran: ~/src/opencv/build/cmake-gui -G Xcode .. per the instructions from willowgarage and various other locations. This appeared to work fine (however I'm wondering now if I'm missing an architecture setting in here, although it is 64-bit intel in Xcode). I then setup an xcode project with the source files from the linux project and changed the include directories to use /opt/local/include/... rather than the /usr/local/include/... I switched xcode to use the LLVM GCC compiler in the build settings for the project then set the Apple LLVM Dialog for C++ to Language Dialect to GNU++11 (which seems possibly inconsistant with the line above) I'm not using a makefile in xcode, (that I'm aware of - it has its own project file...) I was also running into a linker issue that looked like they may be resolved with the addition of this linker flag: -lopencv_video based on a similar posting here: other thread however in that case the person was using a Makefile in their project. I've tried adding this linker flag under "Other Linker Flags" in xcode build settings but still get build errors. I think I may have two issues here, one with the architecture settings when building the opencv libraries with Cmake, and one with the linker flag settings in my project.     I am trying to load a dll in java using the following code System.loadLibrary("mydll"); The project is placed in D:\development\project\ and i have placed the dll on D:. I then gave following VM argument in eclipse configuration -Djava.library.path=D:/ But when i run i get UnsatisifiedLinkerError. After googling a bit, I used System.load("D:\mydll.dll"); but again getting the same problem, could someone can help?

    I can set the max memory as 1000 and not more than that, if I set the memory more than that, it throws the following error. Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Could not create the Java virtual machine. My question is, why jvm looks for the max memory at startup?     Hi All, I had some fairly simple code in my app to invoke Edit Contact activity on a known good contact index that worked in Android 1.6 but is broken for me now in Android 2.1 on the Droid.   • Can GPU capabilities impact virtual machine performance?

    While this many not seem like a programming question directly, it impacts my development activities and so it seems like it belongs here. It seems that more and more developers are turning to virtual environments for development activities on their computers, SharePoint development being a prime example. Also, as a trainer, I have virtual training environments for all of the classes that I teach. I recently purchased a new Dell E6510 to travel around with. It has the i7 620M (Dual core, HyperThreaded cpu running at 2.66GHz) and 8 GB of memory. Reading the spec sheet, it sounded like it would be a great laptop to carry around and run virtual machines on. Getting the laptop though, I've been pretty disappointed with the user experience of developing in a virtual machine. Giving the Virtual Machine 4 GB of memory, it was slow and I could type complete sentences and watch the VM "catchup". My company has training laptops that we provide for our classes. They are Dell Precision M6400 Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 running at 2.54Ghz with 8 GB of memory and the experience on this laptops is night and day compared to the E6510. They are crisp and you barely aware that you are running in a virtual environment. Since the E6510 should be faster in all categories than the M6400, I couldn't understand why the new laptop was slower, so I did a component by component comparison and the only place where the E6510 is less performant than the M6400 is the graphics department. The M6400 is running a nVidia FX 2700m GPU and the E6510 is running a nVidia 3100M GPU. Looking at benchmarks of the two GPUs suggest that the FX 2700M is twice as fast as the 3100M. http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html 3100M = 111th (E6510) FX 2700m = 47th (Precision M6400) Radeon HD 5870 = 8th (Alienware) The host OS is Windows 7 64bit as is the guest OS, running in Virtual Box 3.1.8 with Guest Additions installed on the guest. The IDE being used in the virtual environment is VS 2010 Premium. So after that long setup, my question is: Is the GPU significantly impacting the virtual machine's performance or are there other factors that I'm not looking at that I can use to boost the vm's performance?   • How can a 1Gb Java heap on a 64bit machine use 3Gb of VIRT space?

    I run the same process on a 32bit machine as on a 64bit machine with the same memory VM settings (-Xms1024m -Xmx1024m) and similar VM version (1.6.0_05 vs 1.6.0_16). However the virtual space used by the 64bit machine (as shown in top under "VIRT") is almost three times as big as that in 32bit! I know 64bit VMs will use a little more memory for the larger references, but how can it be three times as big? Am I reading VIRT in top incorrectly? Full data shown below, showing top and then the result of jmap -heap, first for 64bit, then for 32bit.     How can I set Java 1.6 to be the default for my MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo with OS X 10.5.8? I have installed the latest software update, and dragged the Java SE 6 64-bit choice to the top in the "Java Preferences" application (and even rebooted), but still, on the command line, java -version responds with: java version "1.5.0_24" Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_24-b02-357-9M3165) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_24-149, mixed mode, sharing) Any ideas?

  • Running Java CORBA Client on Unix

    I'm trying to run a Java application I wrote to subscribe to a CORBA event service. It runs OK on my Windows machine, but as soon as I deploy it to the UNIX server, it gives me an org.omg.CORBA.NO_IMPLEMENT exception. Any ideas as to why this might be happening? I'm using JacORB on my Windows machine and passing VM arguments to initialize the client ORB, but I'm not sure how to do that on UNIX and if it's even necessary. Thanks in advance!

    What happens if #setDefault(TimeZone timezone) is called by a concurrent application running on the same application server with JDK 1.6 As discussed in TimeZone #setDefault changes in JDK 6 the call now changes VM wide, this can have horrible consequences. If you're not adminsitrating the application server, how to ensure TimeZone doesn't change?
