  Greetings! I ran into this problem in my project (Silverlight 3 with C#): I have a TreeView which is data bound to, well, a tree. This TreeView has a HierarchicalDataTamplate in a resource dictionary, that defines various controls. Now I want to hide (Visibility.Collapse) some items depending on wether a node has children or not. Other items shall be visible under the same condition. It works like charm when I first bind the source tree to the TreeView, but when I change the source tree, the visibility in the treeview does not change. • Ubuntu cannot access internet, LAN is fine

  I have an Ubuntu 8.04 LTS server that is directly connected to our Comcast Business Gateway modem and I have configured it with 1 of our 5 allotted Static IPs. My other machines on our LAN can connect to this server (via ssh, web, ping, etc.) but I cannot access this server from outside our network, and this machine cannot get out to the internet either (ping google.com fails with unknown host).   Hi there, I'd like to implement my own script engine using the QtScript component and other Qt components. Since this should be an open source (GPL) application I thought I would be free to do this. But now I found a page at Qt's website that made me doubtful about it: What are the restrictions with releasing scriptable applications? Unless the scripter has a Qt license, the following restrictions apply: The application itself may not primarily be a script development tool. The Qt API may not be made directly scriptable. Scripts may not alter the main functionality of the application. If the major part of the application is developed with a compiled programming language and only some non-core parts of the application are made extendable/modifiable through Qt Script, the scripter does not need to purchase a Qt or QSA license.   Our team has just moved from Netbeans to Intellij 9 Ultimate and need to know what files/folders should typically be excluded from source control as they are not "workstation portable" ie: they reference paths that only exist on one user's computer. As far as I can tell Intellij wants to ignore most of the .idea project including .idea/artifacts/* .idea/inspectionProfiles/* .idea/copyright/* .idea/dataSources.ids .idea/dataSources.xml .idea/workspace.xml However it seems to want to check in the .iml files that exist in each module's root directory. I originally checked in the entire .idea directory via the command line which is obviously not aware of what "should" be ignored by Idea. Is the entire .idea directory typically ignored?

• JetBrains dotTrace, is it possible to profile source code line by line? else I need another tool

  I am using JetBrains dotTrace, I've profiled my app which is entirely CPU bound. But the results as you walk down the tree don't sum to the level above in the tree, I only see method calls not the body lines of the node in questions method. Is it possible to profile the source code line by line. i.e for one node: SimulatePair() 99.04% --nextUniform() 30.12% --IDCF() 24.08% So the method calls nextUniform + IDCF use 54% of the time in SimulatePair (or 54% total execution time I'm not sure how to read this) regardless what is happening the other 46% of SimulatePair I need some detail on a line by line basis. Any help or alternative tools is much appreciated. Thanks

  Hi. I'm trying to figure out how I can have a comment header automatically added to all new source files in my eclipse java project. I've looked around but I haven't found a simple solution to automate this process. I gave JAutodoc a try, and even though it does allow me to specify a header I still had to tell the plugin manually to inject the header and it didn't seem very fond of my keyword-subsitution. I'm by the way using the Maven2 plugin for Eclipse for most of my projects if that's any help. Any tips?

• How does one go about understanding GNU source code?

  I'm really sorry if this sounds kinda dumb. I just finished reading K&R and I worked on some of the exercises. This summer, for my project, I'm thinking of re-implementing a linux utility to expand my understanding of C further so I downloaded the source for GNU tar and sed as they both seem interesting. However, I'm having trouble understanding where it starts, where's the main implementation, where all the weird macros came from, etc. I have a lot of time so that's not really an issue. Am I supposed to familiarize myself with the GNU toolchain (ie. make, binutils, ..) first in order to understand the programs?   Everytime I start a project I have to think carefully about which files to exclude from source control. Has someone made a list of the criteria so I can look it up from the beginning? I work on my own so I have not got round to it. I appreciate that in the case of a DLL, you would want to include some and exclude others, so it is not just dependent on the file extension. My projects are ASP.Net, although a general discussion of other templates would also be useful.

  I am looking for a way of generating PNG images of equations from LATEX source code embedded in templates. I know about Template::Plugin::Latex but that is geared towards producing actual documents out of LATEX templates. Any suggestions?

• Does Flickr "Know" if a Hotlinked Image Does Not Link Back to Source?

  From Flickr's community guidelines: "Do link back to Flickr when you post your photos elsewhere. The Flickr service makes it possible to post images hosted on Flickr to outside web sites. However, pages on other web sites that display images hosted on flickr.com must provide a link from each photo back to its photo page on Flickr." Our company currently allows image hotlinking for user-uploaded images. It turns out that this has been more popular than we had expected, and I would like to capitalize on this if possible. We will be altering the guidelines to include a clause similar to Flickr's, quoted above. As hotlinking costs us, both in terms of server load and bandwidth, we would like to get at least something out of it, other than merely a warm feeling inside. My question: Does Flickr "know" if a hotlinked image does not link back to its source? Bonus: if Flickr knows, how?

• Designing DAL in .NET to be "data-source independent" and not just "database independent" ?

  How to design such flexible DAL (specifically in .NET) ? What interfaces .NET provides and what should be done on my own ? Its a greenfield project starting with SQL Server as data source but in future, parts of it will move to different NoSQL type of datastores. Also, we may need to experiment with lot of different datastores (like some data may have to go with Cassandra, some with RDBMS, some to other DHT etc.) Therefore easily switchable access layer will be needed. All i know right now is the 'data' and 'operations needed on that data'.

• Is there a way to remove the source domain from the window title in an out-of-browser Silverlight 3

  We may not have the option to migrate over to Silverlight 4 right away, so I was wondering if anyone found a way to remove the source domain name from the window's title for out-of-browser Silverlight 3 applications. Our window title currently looks like this: "My App - localhost." Under Mac, I found the Info.plist file in the application bundle and found where you can set the Bundle name property as well as TrimmedSourceDomain. Unfortunately, when I clear the TrimmedSourceDomain property, the title looks like "My App -," and if I delete the property entirely, the application doesn't launch. I assume similar problems would occur under Windows. Have any of you found a workaround?

• How to set up an Android source repo while hosting the git trees as private repositories on github?

  Hello there, I am trying to set up a private repository of Android source code while hosting the git trees on github as private repos. I have no problem changing the manifest.xml file to point to public git trees hosted on github in the same way that CynagonMod does, but when trying to point to private repos I get the following error when trying "repo sync": Initializing project username/android_external_webkit ... fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly error: Cannot fetch username/android_external_webkit Where username/android_external_webkit is of course a private github repo of the same name. I understand the error occurs since I did not specify my user name and credentials to github, but I fail to see how to do it in the manifest.xml with repo. Any ideas? Thanks! Gilad
