• Simple to program yet computationally difficult functions

  I need an example of a slow Excel sheet that could exist in the real world. Problem is I'm not sure what sort of functions are computationally difficult. Are there any sort of (maths?) functions that are easy enough to program that they can be used in Excel, yet computationally expensive? Something which has a real world application is a bonus.

  I'm having issues with conditionals. I want to return the index where pattern starts in string (or -1 if not found). The search is to be case sensitive if the 3rd parameter is true otherwise it is case insensitive. Examples index("abAB12","AB",true) returns 2 but index("abAB12","AB",false) returns 0 index("abAB12","BA",true) returns -1 and index("abAB12","BA",false) returns 1 Any idea how I can accomplish this? • Lazy sequence or recur for mathematical power function?

  As an exercise I implemented the mathematical power function. Once using recur: (defn power [a n] (let [multiply (fn [x factor i] (if (zero? i) x (recur (* x factor) factor (dec i))))] (multiply a a (dec n)))) And once with lazy-seq: (defn power [a n] (letfn [(multiply [a factor] (lazy-seq (cons a (multiply (* a factor) factor))))] (nth (multiply a a) (dec n)))) Which implementation do you think is superior? I truly have no idea.. (I'd use recur because it's easier to understand.) I read that lazy-seq is fast because is uses internal caching. But I don't see any opportunities for caching in my sample. Am I overlooking something?

In my c# callback function i use: Page.Validate("ENewsLetter2"); if (Page.IsValid) { if (!RegularExpressionValidatorEmail.IsValid) { sInvalidMessage += "Invalid E-Mail address.\n"; } return sInvalidMessage; } everytime i check the RegularExpressionValidatorEmail, the value is = "". I do not know if this is since the iCallbackEventHandler is asynchronous, the validator has not talked to the server yet so the value will always show up blank? Is it impossible to do what i am trying to do by using a iCallbackEventHandler?

  I'm trying to make a hash function so I can tell if too lists with same sizes contain the same elements. For exemple this is what I want: f((1 2 3))=f((1 3 2))=f((2 1 3))=f((2 3 1))=f((3 1 2))=f((3 2 1)). Any ideea how can I approch this problem ? I've tried doing the sum of squares of all elements but it turned out that there are collisions,for exemple f((2 2 5))=33=f((1 4 4)) which is wrong as the lists are not the same. I'm looking for a simple approach it there are any.

  Hopefully this is a pretty simple question! I've got the code working in jQuery to listen for a specific form on a page to be submitted and perform an alert when it is.. I.e.: The form itself doesn't have a name so I am targetting the form within a specific form ID. $("#content form").submit(function() { alert("lorem ipsum dolor?"); }); What would be the syntax for performing this in javascript alone without using jquery?   Using the event click with live function leads to strange behavior when using Firefox*. With live in Firefox, click is triggered when right-clicking also! The same does not happen in Internet Explorer 7 neither in Google Chrome. Example: Without live, go to demo and try right clicking the paragraphs. A dialog menu should appear. With live, go to demo and try right clicking "Click me!". Now both dialog menu and "Another paragraph" appear. *tested with firefox 3.5.3

• C++ performance, optimizing compiler, empty function in .cpp

  I've a very basic class, name it Basic, used in nearly all other files in a bigger project. In some cases, there needs to be debug output, but in release mode, this should not be enabled and be a NOOP. Currently there is a define in the header, which switches a makro on or off, depending on the setting. So this is definetely a NOOP, when switched off. I'm wondering, if I have the following code, if a compiler (MSVS / gcc) is able to optimize out the function call, so that it is again a NOOP. How is that ambiguous? The second function is clearly the preferred match since it's more specialized. Especially since the T1&& won't bind to an lvalue unless I explicitly forward/move it. Sorry - i is an int. Otherwise, the question would make no sense, and I thought people would infer it since it's normally the loop iterator.

• design function: underlying structure to store list of results for print to file

  is this a good approach to print a list of items to csv file with a sublist attached to each item. The gist of the function is when an item is found that does not exactly macth then a list of close matches is generated - this works now writing out one list at a time to a command window. For export to a csv file I think all the lists must be generated, stored and then written at once. Right now I use a struct to store the attributes printed, each struct is an item on the list - these structs are then added to a sorted stack and when printed they pop off into write out. Is a stack of stacks of structs a good design?

  Hi, i have a select box like that <select name="sehirler_post" id="sehirler_post"> i am getting values via jquery. i know two different ways to get values. first one is : var sehirler_post = jQuery('select#sehirler_post').attr('value'); second one is: jQuery('#sehirler_post ').val() and finally here is my problem, i have something like this: jQuery("#okay").load("ajax_post_category.php?okay="+id+""); i would like to use selectbox value instead of id (okay="+id+"). so, i must change +id+ part with select box value. however i can not do it.. i tried to do like that: jQuery("#okay").load("ajax_post_category.php?okay="+jQuery('#sehirler_post').val()+""); it did not work. there must be a way, so i can use selectbox value instead of id in my load function. if anyone helps me, ill be so glad. regards
