  • F# function calling syntax confusion

    I have a piece of code: links |> Seq.map (fun x -> x.GetAttributeValue ("href", "no url")) Which I wanted to rewrite to: links |> Seq.map (fun x -> (x.GetAttributeValue "href" "no url")) But the F# compiler doesn't seem to like that. I was under the impression that these two function calls were interchangeable: f (a, b) (f a b) The error that I get is: The member or object constructor 'GetAttributeValue' taking 2 arguments are not accessible from this code location. All accessible versions of method 'GetAttributeValue' take 2 arguments. Which seems amusing, as it seems to indicate that it needs what I'm giving it. What am I missing here?

    Hi all, I want to ask about pointer in C++ I have some simple code: int add(int a, int b){ return a+b; } int runner(int x,int y, int (*functocall)(int, int)){ return (*functocall)(x,y); } now, suppose I call those functions using this way : cout<<runner(2,5,&add); or maybe cout<<runner(2,5,add); is there any difference? because when I tried, the result is the same and with no error.     In a simple webapp I need to map URLs to filenames or filepaths. This app has a requirement that it can depend only on modules in the core Perl ditribution (5.6.0 and later). The problem is that filename length on most filesystems is limited to 255. Another limit is about 32k subdirectories in a single folder.     Windows 7 (and probably Windows Vista) display localized folder names using the LocalizedResourceName entry in the desktop.ini file. For my Documents folder, this looks like [.ShellClassInfo] LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21770 IconResource=%SystemRoot%\system32\imageres.dll,-112 IconFile=%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll IconIndex=-235 (see this question) This way the explorer displays the path "C:\Users\Username\Documents" as "C:\Benutzer\Username\Dokumente" on a german Windows. I wonder, if there's any build-in shell function to automatically get this localized name or, even better, transform a whole path into its localized form (best would be anything in .NET)? This is even more interesting as the LocalizedResourceName entry is only documented for Windows CE (see here). Thanks Martin

  • Error message: "$(window).width is not a function"

    Hi all, i am trying to use a jQuery scrollbar called "Jscrollhorizontalpane". when i am trying to use it i get the following error message: "$(window).width is not a function" in firebug's console. i am new to jQuery do this might be very basic but still, i dont know what that means and why there is a problem. the scroller comes in a bundle with a few files, one of which is called "jScrollHorizontalPane.js" and i believe it holds the code for the scroller. i tried replacing $ signs there with the word "jQuery" (in case there is a conflict) but it didnt seem to help. also important to add that on the same page i am using another jQuery scroller (a vertical one as opposed to the horizontal on mentioned above) which works just fine and when i examined it's .js file, i could spot lines with "$(window).width". any ideas?

It's a basic form token. Should this be made into two functions or just one when refactored? set_form_token() and get_form_token(), get_form_token() returning the session value, then I can compare it in my main code. What is the proper way of doing this?

  • Is it always bad idea to use inline css for used-once property?

    I have a table, with 10 columns. I want to control the width of each column. Each column is unique, right now I create an external CSS style for each column: div#my-page table#members th.name-col { width: 40px; } I know there is a best practice to avoid inline style. I do approve using external CSS for anything look'n'feel related: fonts, colors, images. But is it really better to use external CSS in this case? It does not incur extra maintenance cost. It is easier to produce. Cons I can think of: If you have separate designers and development team - using inline styles will force designers to modify content-file (aspx in my case). It might use more bandwidth. Anything else I've missed?

  • Occasional conversion error using SUM function

    My app uses sql2000 and a select statement it uses will sometimes fail. Once a week or so the select returns the error 'Error Converting data type varchar to numeric' SQL: sum(case when ISNULL(form_prsn_id, -1) = irpd_prsn_id then convert(dec(11,2), case when valu_value = '' then '0' else isnull (valu_value,'0') end)* case when fmdt_deduction_flag = 'Y' then -1 else 1 end else 0 end) as client_sum The valu_value field is a varchar and stores some numeric and some varchar. But including my join and where clause filter it will always select numeric or empty string. When it is failing I can remove the SUM, see the data and know that its numeric. So why would the SUM function sometimes (say 5% of time) fail on data that is numeric. I wonder if SQL somehow "looks ahead" to ensure it could convert to decimal on more than just the rows returned without the sum. Note I have discovered a fix where I include ( where isNumeric(valu_value) = 1 ) Thanks

    I ran a C++ program in Xcode, and encountered a warning of "Control may reach end of non-void function". Here is the code: Node* search(Node* head, int x) { if(!head) return NULL; else if(x == head->key) return head; else if(x < head->key) search(head->lchild, x); else search(head->rchild, x); } I got the same warning when compiling it in Linux, but got the correct result. But in Xcode, the result was wrong. By the way, I got the correct answer and no warning in Visual Studio.

    Hello, I'm making a hit counter. I have a database and I store the IP and $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT']; of the visitors. Now I need to add a filter, so I can put away the hits, that are made by bots. I found out, that many bots usually keep some common words in the $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT']; , so I's like to make and array of words, that would keep the bot from displaying in the results. Here is what I have now: while($row = mysql_fetch_array($yesterday, MYSQL_ASSOC)) { <-- Here I need a code, that would run through an array and check, if it containts the keywords and if it doesn't ... just count++; -- } Also if you know any other way of detecting and removing the bots from the results, I'd be verry thankful. However when using the former like so (on an old project) it failed array_walk($_POST, 'mysql_real_escape_string'); Warning: mysql_real_escape_string() expects parameter 2 to be resource, string given. So I went with this slightly more ugly version foreach($_POST as $key => $value) { $_POST[$key] = mysql_real_escape_string($value); } So why didn't the first way work?     I have looked around on the net and cant find an answer to my query. I would really appreciate if someone could provide a good answer without down rating this post. In Lisp car, cdr are used on data mode like '(whatever here) which makes sense to me. Now, in the book Land of Lisp the author is explaining how to build a text engine and suddenly he uses the following description to make a function. (defun describe-location (location nodes) (cadr (assoc location nodes))) Can I ask why is he doing a cadr on a list and how come it provides a response and not an error? shouldn't it be a data mode i.e with a quote in front of the opening bracket '(whatever here)? and also why is he using assoc as in (assoc location nodes) and not (assoc 'garden *nodes*) Isn't the second correct way to use assoc ? I may be missing the big picture and as such would really appreciate someone explaining these key points please. Many thanks!
