  • After software update, why is webmin showing wrong mySQL version?

    I did a full OS/package update on a server running webmin. Now when I go into webmin, it's showing the correct new version of Ubuntu, Apache, etc...but it's still showing the old version of mySQL. At the command line, if I enter mysql -v, it shows the correct new one, but it's just not getting recognized in webmin. I found a file at /etc/webmin/mysql called "version", and it's just a text file with the version number in it. So theoretically I could just change this and it would be fine. However, this obviously doesn't seem like how this should go. How should this file normally get updated? ETA: Services have all been restarted (in fact, there's been a full reboot). Sorry for not specifying this...it just seemed like the obvious first thing to do and not worth mentioning. :-)

  • How do I install the latest version of Mupen64?

    Alright, I can't figure out how to install Mupen64 on Ubuntu 12.04. I'm gonna be moving in ~2 days with no internet connection for an indefinite amount of time, so that's why I'm asking for answers here instead of figuring it out myself (I don't have time right now to sit and fiddle with figuring out emulators). I'd like to know how to properly install the latest version of Mupen64 (Stable. No beta or anything like that) and how to be able to use a controller with it. I've heard rumor that the latest version of M64 no longer has a GUI, but that there are ways to add a GUI to it after installation, so I'd also like to know how to add the Mupen64Py UI to it. I am not totally Ubuntu savvy. I do not know how to compile stuff from source, I don't necessarily know a lot of terminology, I'm not very handy with the terminal, etc. So it would be helpful if you explain each step in an easy to understand manner. Thanks in advance to anybody who helps out. EDIT: I've already seen How do I install mupen64plus?, just so you guys know. I just need instructions that are more detailed. Also, thanks for the edit, Jorge Castro! I guess I really should have properly formatted my question ^^;

  • How to restore/change Alt+Tab behaviour/ram usage and a few other things after Ubuntu upgrade from 11.04 to 11.10?

    I use Ubuntu for programming. I recently updated it from 11.04 to 11.10. There are some things I don't like in the new version of Unity desktop interface. I don't actually know if it is hard to restore previous behavior or not, and if it is not, where should I look to do that. I know a bit of programming, but I really don't know much about Linux settings. I used to have 3-6 terminal windows and switch between them with Alt+Tab and Shift+Alt+Tab. I liked half-transparent terminal windows, since with them I could open web-page with some instruction in Firefox, press Alt+Tab and type commands in a console window, being able to recognize text on a web-page under it. Now I have problems with my usual work-style because of the following. List of "negative" changes Alt+Tab shows just one icon for all console windows. When I wait some time, it, however, shows all windows, but I don't like to wait. I prefer to remember order of windows and press Alt+Tab as many times as I need to switch to the right window. Alt+Shift+Tab to switch in reverse order doesn't work now. Console windows are not transparent any more. When I don't wait, and switch to this icon, it shows all console windows altogether. So even if they were transparent, I wouldn't be able to see anything below them (I can read something only from the window, which is directly under current one, not a few levels under). When I run a few console windows in Unity I had 740Mb used on Ubuntu 11.04, but I have 1050Mb now. The question is how to make it back to 750-. I really need my memory, since I use my computer to work with 1512Mb of data and I try to save every 10Mb possible (if it doesn't take too much of machine and, more importantly, my time). When I press "The Super key" I have a field to type the name of the program I want to run. But now it sometimes shows this field, but when I'm trying to type nothing happens. Probably, focus is not on the right field. I don't really mean to restore exactly the same behavior, but I want to make my work in Ubuntu 11.10 efficient (at least as efficient as in Ubuntu 11.04). I would be happy if there are some ways to accomplish that. What have I tried I have installed CompizConfig Settings Manager. I have read this question. However enabling "Static Application Switcher" makes Alt+Tab crazy: after enabling it It says about key-binding conflicts with "Ubuntu Unity Plugin"; "Alt+Tab" switching doesn't change, but "Shift+Alt+Tab" now works and shows all windows; Memory usage increases. I have tried turning off Ubuntu Unity Plugin, but this doesn't seem right thing to do, since it seems to turn off all menus, a lot of keystrokes and app-launcher, which usually activates with "The Super key". I have found, that window transparency can be enabled by "Opacity, Brightness and Saturation" plugin from Accessibility. However I don't know if enabling it is the right thing to do (at least it increases memory usage). Update: everything solved but #3: see my own answer below.     Requires keyring and authentication to install and unistall programs or update anything. I just want to restart from scratch so i can clean it up anyways. Can anyone help? Also, on start up a list on a black screen will come up saying Ubuntu with linux version 26.32-40 generic or recovery version and at the bottom of different versions has one Window 7 loader option. When I get into recovery menu to try and restore to factory settings my netbook has no restore option. I've tried pressing alt-f10 and holding alt and repeatedly tap f10 but nothing seems to work, and my acer asks for a password login to even load windows 7 which I don't have. Any ideas? I've looked a lot on the internet for help but I'm getting to my last resort, to get of this thing for once and for all. I want to be able to personalize and add programs as I please, this is all bs to go through to unistall one freaking game or get rid of ubuntu gnome keyring!! Please help!! Thank you. :)

  • How to use an RPM option in a yum upgrade?

    I need to upgrade an RPM installed via YUM, which has an fatal bug in its postun section. This will get run (and delete the program's user, which is what I want to not happen) when I run "yum upgrade". I know that if I were using rpm directly, I could just use the "-nopostun" option to skip this section, but I don't see a way of accessing that option from yum's man page. Anyone know a way round this?

  • Windows 8.1 Upgrade: I have to run everything as administrator now?

    I was running Windows 8 x64 Professional before and I never had to run programs as administrator to get them to function fully. Examples: Chrome OpenVPN GUI I always have my user under the local "Administrators" group and also disable UAC by putting the slider for it at the very bottom. This always did the trick. After the Windows 8.1 upgrade, I run into a few issues: Running Chrome normally, the Chrome icon doesn't appear in the taskbar. Chrome won't run in the background. OpenVPN GUI has errors when launching. Running both as administrator (Right Click Run as Administrator) fixes those issues and they run perfectly. What has changed in Windows 8.1 upgrade to cause these "problems"? I'm an advanced user, I don't want to have to worry about administrative rights. Any advice on how to fix these problems? EDIT I also get prompted for administrator permission to delete directories under "Program Files" now... that never used to happen before. I can hit Continue and it will allow me to delete, but just another symptom of the problem...

  • Can I package my Eclipse extension so the right version is automatically installed?

    Is there a way to build an Eclipse Update Site so that Eclipse 3.3 will install one version of my plug-in while Eclipse 3.4 will install another version? Background: I've become responsible for an Eclipse extension that has half a dozen plug-ins which depend on a "support" plug-in, and the support plug-in needs to be one version for Eclipse 3.3 and a different version for Eclipse 3.4/3.5. I currently have two separate features, "extension for 3.3" and "extension for 3.4+" but I'd like to not bother my users with this detail.

    Each version of Visual Studio comes with a specific version of the MFC framework, but I believe MFC SDK can be downloaded separately. Since MFC is just C++, is there any reason you couldn't use the latest version with an older version of VC++... I don't mean trying to get the ribbon working in MSVC++ 6, But we're on VS2005 and some of the newer MFC features would be useful.

  • How do I copy packages within a PPA from one release to another? (nonsensical "same version already has published binaries" error)

    I keep getting weird errors from launchpad when I try and copy the Maverick packages to Natty for the PPA. I select the wine1.3 package (not in Ubuntu), select "copy to this PPA", and then select "rebuild the resulting binaries". This error emerges: The following source cannot be copied: wine1.3 1.3.11-0ubuntu1 in maverick (same version already has published binaries in the destination archive) I have no idea what this error means but apparently it doesn't mean there are binaries in the destination archive.

    Ever since I bought this laptop I've been trying to install Ubuntu on it. It came with W8 preinstalled. Up to this point, I've been able to boot in UEFI mode with a black screen. I can tell it's trying to use the nVidia card (there's a led on the computer, depending on the color you can tell which GPU is using) and if I press crtl+alt+F1 I can go to console mode. Taking this advantage I tried to install bumblebee and after a successful install the led that indicates which GPU is being used change, indicating that it switched to the Intel HD 4600 graphics. After the installation I tried to initiate the graphic interface (startx) with no success. I also saved the dsmeg output to see if it can be of any help. In order to be able to get to this stage I had to boot with nomodeset option and removed quiet and splash. Anyone got this same error? Any guidance? I've tried other linux distros and so far the only one that is able to boot is Opensuse 12.3 without any issues (but only when I switch to legacy mode instead of UEFI).

  • Using PHP version 5.2 or 5.3 for commercial products?

    I'm doing research on what version of PHP to use when creating commercial scripts that will be sold to the public. Although the available stats aren't great, PHP 5.3 shows a 18.5% adoption rate. I'd like to use Symfony to create these scripts and it requires 5.3.2 which shows an even lower adoption rate (roughly 13% of that 18.5% use less than 5.3.2). Would I be risking much by jumping straight to PHP 5.3.2+ or should I ignore the stats and plough ahead?
