    I am trying to figure out how to keep my page variables in my application from being defined globally. I've come up with a few methods but am wondering if there is a general standard approach people use. I've got my plugin design pattern down using this approach: http://www.virgentech.com/blog/2009/10/building-object-oriented-jquery-plugin.html. But I'm just not sure how to handle my page level encapsulation.

    Hello, Here's how the situation looks : I have a couple simple forms <form action='settings.php' method='post'> <input type='hidden' name='setting' value='value1'> <input type='submit' value='Value1'> </form> Other small forms close to it have value2, value3, ... for the specific setting1, etc. Now, I have all these forms placed on the settings.php subpage, but I'd also like to have copies of one or two of them on the index.php subpage (for ease of access, as they are in certain situations rather frequently used). Thing is I do not want those forms based on the index.php to redirect me in any way to settings.php, just post the hidden value to alter settings and that's all. How can I do this with JS ? Cheers

  • Javascript to PHP, mysql uploading, one button pressing solution

    my program is generating buttons from a mysql database.When one of the button is pressed, it would uplod the current time and the gps coordinate. Sadly, it only works if the same button is pressed twice, but its not an option, because the button has to dissappear.     Normally, I've seen prototype functions declared outside the class definition, like this: function Container(param) { this.member = param; } Container.prototype.stamp = function (string) { return this.member + string; } var container1 = new Container('A'); alert(container1.member); alert(container1.stamp('X')); This code produces two alerts with the values "A" and "AX". I'd like to define the prototype function INSIDE of the class definition. Is there anything wrong with doing something like this? function Container(param) { this.member = param; if (!Container.prototype.stamp) { Container.prototype.stamp = function() { return this.member + string; } } } I was trying this so that I could access a private variable in the class. But I've discovered that if my prototype function references a private var, the value of the private var is always the value that was used when the prototype function was INITIALLY created, not the value in the object instance: Container = function(param) { this.member = param; var privateVar = param; if (!Container.prototype.stamp) { Container.prototype.stamp = function(string) { return privateVar + this.member + string; } } } var container1 = new Container('A'); var container2 = new Container('B'); alert(container1.stamp('X')); alert(container2.stamp('X')); This code produces two alerts with the values "AAX" and "ABX".   • IE8 blocking JavaScript Cookies

    Hey there folks, Here is one that is throwing me for a loop. I am trying to set a simple cookie that has one name:value pair on IE8. Tested on FF and it works fine. IE8 keeps blocking it. I know I can pass $x using form and then test its value and load required bit of code, but I would like to do it smoothly, without reloading the page. I think that JQuery could help it, but I have no idea how to do it. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

    I am trying to bind a handler to an event. The event is a keydown function. The handler will listen for hit variables to produce one of two conditions. The 1st condition (odd number of hits) will perform 1 function, the 2nd (even number of hits) will perform another function. To elaborate, the 1st function will scroll to one element, the 2nd will scroll to another element. My syntax may be the wrong approach, but it works for the 1st condition, but not the 2nd. I think I have the conditional statement in the wrong place. How can I rewrite this to work as intended?     I have a function that issues an AJAX call (via jQuery). In the complete section I have a function that says: complete: function(XMLHttpRequest, textStatus) { if(textStatus == "success") { return(true); } else { return(false); } } However, if I call this like so: if(callajax()) { // Do something } else { // Something else } The first is never called. If I put an alert(textStatus) in the complete function I get true, but not before that function returns undefined.
