• Can I change the binding source to another source in XAML?

  Hi guys, I want to do a very simple thing, can you point me on the right direction? I want to change the source in XAML to another object source, let me put you an example: I have a Listview, bound to a "Model A", it has many properties, but one is called "Total". This property is not shown on the View Each ListviewItem has its own source (ItemsSource), BUT, one of the fields should show "Total" from "Model A" Caveat: I am implementing MVVM, so the "Model A" is assigned as a VM DataSource, XAML knows nothing about it. So, in my perfect world the XAML should look like this: <GridViewColumn Header="Total" Width="150"> <GridViewColumn.CellTemplate> <DataTemplate> <Label Content="{Binding Source=<The source of LISTVIEW> Path=Total}"/> </DataTemplate> </GridViewColumn.CellTemplate> </GridViewColumn> I have tried RelativeSource but that points me to the XAML object, I want the source of it, is it possible? • PHP/Javascript limiting amount of checkboxes

  Hi everyone Im trying to limit the amount of checkboxes that can be checked, in this case only 3 can be checked. When using plain HTML this works fine. The code can be seen below. • Help with MySQL query... Need help ordering a group of rows

  I can tell it best by explaining the query I have, and what I need. I need to be able to get a group of items from the database, grouped by category, manufacturer, and year made. The groupings need to be sorted based on total amount of items within the group. This part is done with the query below. Secondly, I need to be able to show an image of the most expensive item out of the group, which is why I use MAX(items.current_price). I thought MAX() gets the ENTIRE row corresponding to the largest column value. I was wrong, as MAX only gets the numeric value of the largest price. So the query doesnt work well for that. • In Python, how to make sure database connection will always close before leaving a code block?

Anyway, maybe that is bad design in the sense that I could open and close a DB connection after each small block of execute. And sure, I could just add a close right before the return in that case... But how could I always properly close the DB without having to worry if I have that return, or a raise, or continue, or whatever in the middle? • Which of the following Java coding fragments is better?

  This isn't meant to be subjective, I am looking for reasons based on resource utilisation, compiler performance, GC performance etc. rather than elegance. Oh, and the position of brackets doesn't count, so no stylistic comments please. Take the following loop; Integer total = new Integer(0); Integer i; for (String str : string_list) { i = Integer.parse(str); total += i; } versus... Integer total = 0; for (String str : string_list) { Integer i = Integer.parse(str); total += i; } In the first one i is function scoped whereas in the second it is scoped in the loop. I have always thought (believed) that the first one would be more efficient because it just references an existing variable already allocated on the stack, whereas the second one would be pushing and popping i each iteration of the loop. There are quite a lot of other cases where I tend to scope variables more broadly than perhaps necessary so I thought I would ask here to clear up a gap in my knowledge. Also notice that assignment of the variable on initialisation either involving the new operator or not. Do any of these sorts of semi-stylistic semi-optimisations make any difference at all?

• Java Socket - how to catch Exception of BufferedReader.readline()

  I have a Thread (let's say T1) which reads data from socket: public void run() { while (running) { try { BufferedReader reader = new BufferedReader( new InputStreamReader(socket.getInputStream()) ); String input = reader.readLine(); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } } Another Thread (lets say T2) try to finish the program in one of its method. Therefore T2 does the following: T1.running = false; socket.close(); Here is this scenario for which i couldn't find a solution: T1 is active and waiting for some input to read i.e. blocking. context switching T2 is active and sets running to false, closes the socket context switching because T1 was blocking and T2 closed the socket, T1 throws an Exception. What i want is to catch this SocketException. i can't put a try/catch(SocketException) in T1.run(). So how can i catch it in T1's running-method? If it's not possible to catch it in T1's running, then how can i catch it elsewhere? PS: "Another question about the Thread Debugging" Normally when i debug the code step by step, i lose the 'active running line' on a context switch. Let's say i'm in line 20 of T1, context switch happens, let's assume the program continues from the 30.line of T2, but the debugger does not go/show to the 30.line of T2, instead the 'active running line' vanishes. So i lose the control over the code. I use Eclipse for Java and Visual Studio for C#. So what is the best way to track the code while debugging on a context switch ?

  I am very new to Javascript. I am running to a problem and don't know how to solve it. Could you please help? Basically, I want to create some textboxes and checkboxes in a form. Then I have to validate those fields, and add the values of the checkboxes if they are selected. Looking at the FAQ on the Runtime webpage this turned up: Please verify in Settings-Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Services that the following services are enabled: MS Software Shadow Copy Provider Volume Shadow Copy Also make sure you are able to stop and start these services. Possible reasons for VSS failures: For VSS to work, at least one volume in your computer must be NTFS. If you use only FAT drives, VSS will not function. The required NTFS volume does not need to be identical with the volume you want to image. You should make sure that VSSVC.EXE is running in your task manager. If the problems persist, registering "oleaut.dll" and "oleaut32.dll" using "regsvr32" might help. Both of those services are running and can be started and stopped without issue. Using "regsvr32" to register ""oleaut32.dll" returns successful, but "oleaut.dll" returns: The module "oleaut.dll" failed to load. Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files. The specified module could not be found. Upgrading to Windows Server 2008 R2 with the Hyper-V role, i need a way for people to be able to use the virtual machines. Note: not all virtual machines will have network connectivity not all virtual machines will be running Windows some people needing to connect to a virtual machine will be running Windows XP Hyper-V manager, allowing management of the hyper-v server, is less desirable (since it allows management of the hyper-v server (and doesn't work on all operating systems)) What is the Windows Server 2008 R2 equivalent of VMRC; to "vnc" to a virtual server?   We've recently bought two Dell PowerEdge R710 servers with Perc 6i controllers and 6x 135GB SAS Drives. We'd done some pretty extensive testing on a Dell PowerEdge R510 server with a Perc 6i and 4x 135GB SAS Drives running FreeBSD 8.1 for it's wonderful ZFS support and mfiutil. We hadn't had any problems with the R510 and had got to a point where we where happy with the performance of ZFS. Since running FreeBSD 8.1 on the R710 we've been getting errors from the RAID controller. mfi0: COMMAND 0xffffff80005d1770 TIMEOUT AFTER 6178 SECONDS This usually brings the system to a stand still. But it doesn't always happen, and performs very well up until it does happen. We've been running the disk as 3 mirrored drives striped in ZFS. So far we've noticed that running the drives with RAID10 on the RAID seems to work without errors (still testing). At first I thought hardware error as we'd been running FreeBSD on the R510 with the same controller without any issues. But both R710 have the same issue. All controllers are running the same firmware.

• Virutal Machine loses network connectivity on Hyper V Cluster

  We're running a number of VMs on a 6 node failover cluster of blades using Hyper V. We have an intermittent issue (every few days at different times - not a fixed frequency) of VMs losing network connectivity. Console access to the VM suggests all is fine and the underlying blade has normal connectivity. To resolve the problem we either have to re-start the VM or, more usually, we do a live migration to another blade which fires up connectivity and we then migrate it back to the original blade. I've had 3 instances of this happen with a specific VM running on a particular blade however it has happened once with a different VM running on a different blade. All VMs and blades have the same basic setup and are running Windows 2008 R2. Any ideas where I should be looking to diagnose the possible causes of this problem as the event logs provide no help? Edit: I've checked that each blade is running the latest NIC drivers and all seem to be fine. Something that is confusing me - a failover or restart of the VM resolves the issue. Whilst I need to work out the underlying issue that is causing the NICs to hang I'm also concerned that the VM didn't failover to another node which would have solved the outage for me. Is there a way to configure the cluster so that it can tell that the VM guest has lost connectivity and fail it over? As things stand the cluster is assuming that the VM is running happily as I presume Hyper V says everything is great even though there is a problem.

• Windows 7: Touch gestures in IE not working without explorer.exe being run once

  Details: Internet Explorer 9 and Windows 7 Professional, running on a HP TouchSmart (touch screen PC). It is going to be a kiosk PC (running a custom GUI for displaying websites). Scenario 1: When running Internet Explorer as a normal program in Windows 7, touch functions work perfectly. I can scroll the website by dragging it with my finger, I can pinch zoom and I can touch-and-hold right click. I now change the default shell in Windows to Internet Explorer (ie. IE starts instead of explorer.exe). Internet Explorer of course starts up when logging in. However, touch functions are reduced to basic clicking (no dragging, no pinch zooming, no touch-and-hold right click). Then I manually start explorer.exe, and the touch functions work again! And here is the weird part: When I kill explorer.exe, the touch functions keeps working - even if I close IE and start a new instance. Scenario 2: The exact same, but instead of changing the default shell to Internet Explorer, I change it to my own program, which uses an embedded Internet Explorer ("WebBrowser"). Same thing happens. What I've tried: Autorun programs: When explorer.exe launches, it launches all the autorun programs. There are no relevant programs being run by explorer, but just in case, I have manually started all the autorun programs, so that it is identical (but without explorer.exe) to a normal login. It still does not work (until I launch explorer.exe). Specifically TabTip.exe, TabTip32.exe and wisptis.exe are all running. All services are also started. To sum it up Running explorer.exe once changes something in the touch capabilities of Internet Explorer. It doesn't matter if explorer.exe is running - as long as it has been run once. Does anyone know what causes this behavior? Or how I can circumvent it neatly? Thanks!

• Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket

  I was trying to tune the performance of a running mysql-server by running this command: mysqld_safe --key_buffer_size=64M --table_cache=256 --sort_buffer_size=4M --read_buffer_size=1M & After this i'm unable to connect mysql from the server where mysql is running. I get this error: ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (111) However, luckily i can still connect to mysql remotely. So all my webservers still have access to mysql and are running without any problems. Because of this though i don't want to try to restart the mysql server since that will probably mess everything up. Now i know that mysqld_safe is starting the mysql-server, and since the mysql server was already running i guess it's some kind of problem with two mysql servers running and listening to the same port. Is there some way to solve this problem without restarting the initial mysql server? UPDATE: This is what ps xa | grep "mysql" says: 11672 ? S 0:00 /bin/sh /usr/bin/mysqld_safe 11780 ? I installed the bind9 nameserver to three different computer. two Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS, and one Ubuntu 11.10 I compiled it 9.7.0, 9.7.3, 9.9.0 with this method: ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc/bind --localstatedir=/var \ --mandir=/usr/share/man --infodir=/usr/share/info \ --enable-threads --enable-largefile --with-libtool --enable-shared --enable-static \ --with-openssl=/usr --with-gssapi=/usr --with-gnu-ld \ --with-dlz-mysql=yes --with-dlz-bdb=no \ --with-dlz-filesystem=yes --with-geoip=/usr make make install After the set up for dlz/mysql, the BIND server is working perfetctly until 5-30 minute long. Ahter i got segfault. I resolve temporaly the problem with a simple process watchdog, and if the named is stopped, the watchdog is restart it, but this is not a good idea in long therm. Looking at the FAQ on the Runtime webpage this turned up: Please verify in Settings-Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Services that the following services are enabled: MS Software Shadow Copy Provider Volume Shadow Copy Also make sure you are able to stop and start these services. Possible reasons for VSS failures: For VSS to work, at least one volume in your computer must be NTFS. If you use only FAT drives, VSS will not function. The required NTFS volume does not need to be identical with the volume you want to image. You should make sure that VSSVC.EXE is running in your task manager. If the problems persist, registering "oleaut.dll" and "oleaut32.dll" using "regsvr32" might help. Both of those services are running and can be started and stopped without issue. Using "regsvr32" to register ""oleaut32.dll" returns successful, but "oleaut.dll" returns: The module "oleaut.dll" failed to load. Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files. The specified module could not be found. Some other information that might be relevant. Browsing to the drive is successful, but accessing certain folders returns an "access" error. Windows runs a permissions adder that adds the current user profile to the NFTS permissions. Could this be the cause of the issue? DriveImage XML is running as Administrator. Thoughts?

• Mac updated just now, postgres now broken

  I run postgres 9.1 / ruby 1.9.2 / rails 3.1.0 on a maxbook air for local dev. It's all been running smoothly for months, (though this is the first time I've done development on a mac.) It's a macbook air from last year, and today I got the mac osx software update message as I have a few times before, and my system downloaded approx 450mb of updates and restarted. It now says it's on OSX 10.7.3. Point is, postgres has stopped working, when I start my thin server (mirror heroku cedar) as normal, and then browse to my rails app I get: PG::Error could not connect to server: Permission denied Is the server running locally and accepting connections on Unix domain socket "/var/pgsql_socket/.s.PGSQL.5432"? What happened? After browsing around a few questions I'm still confused, but here's some extra info: Running psql from command line gives same error I can run pgadmin 3 and connect via it and run SQL no problems Running which psql shows the version as /usr/bin/psql I created a PostgreSQL user back when I got the mac (it's always been on lion) I've no idea why, almost certainly I was following a tutorial which I neglected to store in my notes. Point is I am aware there is a _postgres user as well. I know it's rubbish, but apart from a note on passwords, I don't have any extra info on how I configured postgres - though the obvious implication is that I did not use the _postgres user. Anyone have suggestions or information on what might have changed / what I can try to debug and fix? Thanks. • Ram question in VMware Server 2

  Hi, I understand from the VMware Server 2 documentation that VMware Server 2 is capable of running a 64-bit guest OS underneath a 32-bit host OS, as long as the hardware running the box is 64-bit capable. Here's my situation. We currently have an underutilized XEON X3220 Quad Core 64bit Server, running Server 2003, 32-bit and 2gb of RAM (the motherboard is capable of 8gb ram). The server is currently used mainly for file and print services. It is also running Active Directory, Novell eDirectory and Groupwise 6.5. We are planning a micration to Microsoft Exchange, so the Novell eDirectory and Groupwise services will eventually be purged from this box, leaving only Active Directory, File and Print services. Being that this server is underutilized we are hoping to save hardware costs and virtualize our new Exchange investment. My question is this. Will VMware allow access to the "invisible" extra memory that Windows 32-bit won't see. Meaning, if we increase the full amount of system ram to 8gb (yes, I know the 32-bit host OS will only see a maximum of 4gb), will I be able to assign maybe 5gb to the new Server 2008 64-bit OS running Exchange and leave 3gb for the Guest OS (or maybe even a 6, 2 split). The second part of that would be, would it be better to just convert the main OS currently running to an image, convert the machine itself to ESXi and run both OSes as images under ESXi. Downtime for this box is critical, so my preference is most definitly with the first option because it presents very minimal downtime. Doing the second would make downtime quite a few hours to image the machine and then convert the image to a VMware Image.
