  • C++ destructor issue with std::vector of class objects

    - by Nigel
I am confused about how to use destructors when I have a std::vector of my class. So if I create a simple class as follows: class Test { private: int *big; public: Test () { big = new int[10000]; } ~Test () { delete [] big; } }; Then in my main function I do the following: Test tObj = Test(); vector<Test> tVec; tVec.push_back(tObj); I get a runtime crash in the destructor of Test when I go out of scope. Why is this and how can I safely free my memory?

  • C++: Delete a struct?

    - by Rosarch
I have a struct that contains pointers: struct foo { char* f; int* d; wchar* m; } I have a vector of shared pointers to these structs: vector<shared_ptr<foo>> vec; vec is allocated on the stack. When it passes out of scope at the end of the method, its destructor will be called. (Right?) That will in turn call the destructor of each element in the vector. (Right?) Does calling delete foo delete just the pointers such as foo.f, or does it actually free the memory from the heap?

  • Entity Framework 4 & WCF Data Service: N:M mapping

    - by JJO
I have three tables in my database: An A table, a B table, and a many-to-many ABMapping table. For simplicity, A and B are keyed with identity columns; ABMapping has just two columns: AId and BId. I built an Entity Framework 4 model from this, and it did correctly identify the N:M mapping between A and B. I then built a WCF Data Service based on this EF model. I'm trying to consume this WCF Data Service. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to get a mapping between As and Bs to map back to the database. I've tried something like this: A a = new A(); B b = new B(); a.Bs.Add(b); connection.SaveChanges(); But this doesn't seem to have worked. Any clues? What am I missing?

  • How to avoid Foreign Keys constraints for all tables in DB truncate ?

    - by eugeneK
Hi, for designing purposes i need to truncate all DB which has lots of FK's. I cannot use DELETE command simply because some tables set with Identity of TinyInts and contain about 150 items. this is a query ( truncate all tables in selected DB ) i'm trying to run Declare @t varchar (1024) Declare tbl_cur cursor for select TABLE_NAME from INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES WHERE TABLE_TYPE = 'BASE TABLE' OPEN tbl_cur FETCH NEXT from tbl_cur INTO @t WHILE @@FETCH_STATUS = 0 BEGIN EXEC ('TRUNCATE TABLE '+ @t) FETCH NEXT from tbl_cur INTO @t END CLOSE tbl_cur DEALLOCATE tbl_Cur What the best and easiest way to achieve truncate on DB with many FK's ?

  • Why are some programs writing on stderr instead of stdout their output?

    - by Zagorax
I've recently added to my .bashrc file an ssh-add command. I found that ssh-add $HOME/.ssh/id_rsa_github > /dev/null results on a message "identity added and something else" every time I open a shell. While ssh-add $HOME/.ssh/id_rsa_github > /dev/null 2>&1 did the trick and my shell is now 'clean'. Reading on internet, I found that other command do it, (for example time). Could you please explain why it's done?

  • How is the implicit segment register of a near pointer determined?

    - by Daniel Trebbien
In section 4.3 of Intel 64® and IA-32 Architectures Software Developer's Manual. Volume 1: Basic Architecture, it says: A near pointer is a 32-bit offset ... within a segment. Near pointers are used for all memory references in a flat memory model or for references in a segmented model where the identity of the segment being accessed is implied. This leads me to wondering: how is the implied segment register determined? I know that (%eip) and displaced (%eip) (e.g. -4(%eip)) addresses use %cs by default, and that (%esp) and displaced (%esp) addresses use %ss, but what about (%eax), (%edx), (%edi), (%ebp) etc., and can the implicit segment register depend also on the instruction that the memory address operand appears in?

  • Getting a query to index seek (rather than scan)

    - by PaulB
Running the following query (SQL Server 2000) the execution plan shows that it used an index seek and Profiler shows it's doing 71 reads with a duration of 0. select top 1 id from table where name = '0010000546163' order by id desc Contrast that with the following with uses an index scan with 8500 reads and a duration of about a second. declare @p varchar(20) select @p = '0010000546163' select top 1 id from table where name = @p order by id desc Why is the execution plan different? Is there a way to change the second method to seek? thanks EDIT Table looks like CREATE TABLE [table] ( [Id] [int] IDENTITY (1, 1) NOT NULL , [Name] [varchar] (13) COLLATE Latin1_General_CI_AS NOT NULL) Id is primary clustered key There is a non-unique index on Name and a unique composite index on id/name There are other columns - left them out for brevity

  • Dynamically changing databases in SQL Server 2000

    - by spuppett
At work we have a number of databases that we need to do the same operations on. I would like to write 1 SP that would loop over operations and set the database at the beginning of the loop (example to follow). I've tried sp_executesql('USE ' + @db_id) but that only sets the DB for the scope of that stored procedure. I don't really want to loop with hard coded database names because we need to do similar things in many different places and it's tough to remember where things need to change if we add another DB. Any thoughts Example: DECLARE zdb_loop CURSOR FAST_FORWARD FOR SELECT distinct db_id from DBS order by db_id OPEN zdb_loop FETCH NEXT FROM zdb_loop INTO @db_id WHILE @@FETCH_STATUS = 0 BEGIN USE @db_id --Do stuff against 3 or 4 different DBs FETCH NEXT FROM zdb_loop INTO @db_id END CLOSE zdb_loop DEALLOCATE zdb_loop

  • ActiveRecord find all parents that have associated children

    - by brad
I don't know why I can't figure this out, I think it should be fairly simple. I have two models (see below). I'm trying to come up with a named scope for SupplierCategory that would find all SupplierCategory(s) (including :suppliers) who's associated Supplier(s) are not empty. I tried a straight up join, named_scope :with_suppliers, :joins => :suppliers which gives me only categories with suppliers, but it gives me each category listed separately, so if a category has 2 suppliers, i get the category twice in the returned array: Currently I'm using: named_scope :with_suppliers, :include => :suppliers and then in my view I'm using: <%= render :partial => 'category', :collection => @categories.find_all{|c| !c.suppliers.empty? } %> Not exactly eloquent but illustrates what I'm trying to achieve. Class Definitions class SupplierCategory < AR has_many :suppliers, :order => "name" end class Supplier < AR belongs_to :supplier end

  • I18n translation problem

    - by kshchepelin
I'm about to translate all time zones to Russian and I've done such things: model: # lib/i18n_time_zone.rb class I18nTimeZone < ActiveSupport::TimeZone def self.all super.map { |z| create(z.name, z.utc_offset) } end def to_s translated_name = I18n.t(name, :scope => :timezones, :default => name) "(GMT#{formatted_offset}) #{translated_name}" end end view: <%= time_zone_select :user, :time_zone, nil, :model => I18nTimeZone %> locale file (/config/locales/ru.yml): ru: timezones: "Midway Island": "??????" "Samoa": "?????" .... But there are cases when original string includes some dots (".") Like "St. Petersburg" And I18n.t() tells me that translation is missing. How can I avoid it?

  • Why is the destructor of the class called twice ?

    - by dicaprio
Apologies if the question sounds silly, I was following experts in SO and trying some examples myself, and this is one of them. I did try the search option but didn't find an answer for this kind. class A { public: A(){cout<<"A Contruction"<<endl;} ~A(){cout<<"A destruction"<<endl;} }; int main() { vector<A> t; t.push_back(A()); // After this line, when the scope of the object is lost. } Why is the destructor of the class called twice ?

  • Getting input in system() function (Mac)

    - by Alex
#include <iostream> using namespace std; int main() { short int enterVal; cout << "enter a number to say: " << endl; cin >> enterVal; system("say "%d"") << enterVal; return 0; } Is what I am currently trying. I want the user to enter a number and the system() function says it basically. The code above has an error which says " 'd' was not declared in this scope ". Thanks in advance.

  • Returning objects with dynamic memory

    - by Caulibrot
I'm having trouble figuring out a way to return an object (declared locally within the function) which has dynamic memory attached to it. The problem is the destructor, which runs and deletes the dynamic memory when the object goes out of scope, i.e. when I return it and want to use the data in the memory that has been deleted! I'm doing this for an overloaded addition operator. I'm trying to do something like: MyObj operator+( const MyObj& x, const MyObj& y ) { MyObj z; // code to add x and y and store in dynamic memory of z return z; } My destructor is simply: MyObj::~MyObj() { delete [] ptr; } Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

  • Sql Server query performance

    - by Macros
I have a stored procedure on a busy database which constantly come out top in the list of expensive queries (by some way). The query is very simple, it takes a single parameter (@ID, int) which is the primary key of the table, and selects the record that matches that ID. The primary key is an identity field with a clustered index, so I am stumped as to how to optimise this any further? The query is as follows CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[P_Call_Get] @ID int = null AS select ID, AppID, AgentID, AgentLogin, Ext, VDN, VDNName, Skill, SkillName, CallFrom, TelNoFrom, ParentCallID, CallStart, ACWStart, CallEnd, Outcome, StageID, TxTo, TxSuccess, ServiceID, DiallerID, CRC, TSCallID, CallDirection, [Manual], CallBackAgent, CallBackDateTime, Notes from P_Call where (ID = @ID or @ID is null) Not sure the best way to post the execution plan - all it shows is that 100% of the operation is taken up by the clustered index scan

  • SQL insert default value

    - by Stan
    Say if I have a table like CREATE TABLE [Message] ( [MessageIdx] [int] IDENTITY (1, 1) NOT NULL , [Message] [varchar] (1024) COLLATE Latin1_General_CI_AS NOT NULL , [ValidUntil] [datetime] NULL , CONSTRAINT [PK_Message] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ( [MessageIdx] ) WITH FILLFACTOR = 90 ON [PRIMARY] ) ON [PRIMARY] GO I am trying to insert value without specify column names explicitly. Below statement causes error. How can I do that? Thanks. set identity_insert caconfig..fxmessage on; insert into message values (DEFAULT,'blah',DEFAULT); set identity_insert caconfig..fxmessage off;

  • Shall I optimize or let compiler to do that?

    - by Knowing me knowing you
What is the preferred method of writing loops according to efficiency: Way a) /*here I'm hoping that compiler will optimize this code and won't be calling size every time it iterates through this loop*/ for (unsigned i = firstString.size(); i < anotherString.size(), ++i) { //do something } or maybe should I do it this way: Way b) unsigned first = firstString.size(); unsigned second = anotherString.size(); and now I can write: for (unsigned i = first; i < second, ++i) { //do something } the second way seems to me like worse option for two reasons: scope polluting and verbosity but it has the advantage of being sure that size() will be invoked once for each object. Looking forward to your answers.

  • Does beginTransaction in Hibernate allocate a new DB connection?

    - by illscience
Hi folks - Just wondering if beginning a new transaction in Hibernate actually allocates a connection to the DB? I'm concerned b/c our server begins a new transaction for each request received, even if that request doesn't interact with the DB. We're seeing DB connections as a major bottleneck, so I'm wondering if I should take the time narrow the scope of my transactions. Searched everywhere and haven't been able to find a good answer. The very simple code is here: SessionFactory sessionFactory = (SessionFactory) Context.getContext().getBean("sessionFactory"); sessionFactory.getCurrentSession().beginTransaction(); sessionFactory.getCurrentSession().setFlushMode(FlushMode.AUTO); thanks very much! a

  • Simple nested setTimeout() only runs once (JavaScript)

    - by danielfaraday
    For some reason my galleryScroll() function only runs once, even though the function calls itself using setTimeout(). I'm thinking the issue may be related to scope, but I'm not sure: http://jsfiddle.net/CYEBC/2/ $(document).ready(function() { var x = $('#box').offset().left; var y = $('#box').offset().top; galleryScroll(); function galleryScroll() { x = x + 1; y = y + 1; $('#box').offset({ left: x, top: y }); setTimeout('galleryScroll()', 100); } });?   • typedef to store pointers in C

    - by seriouslion
The Size of pointer depends on the arch of the machine. So sizeof(int*)=sizeof(int) or sizeof(int*)=sizeof(long int) I want to have a custom data type which is either int or long int depending on the size of pointer. I tried to use macro #if, but the condition for macros does not allow sizeof operator. Also when using if-else, typedef is limited to the scope of if. if((sizeof(int)==sizeof(int *)){ typedef int ptrtype; } else{ typedef long int ptrtype; } //ptrtype not avialble here Is there any way to define ptrtype globally?

  • glTexParameter and filtering in OpenGL and GLSL?

    - by sharoz
I have a couple questions about glTexParameter and filtering 1) What is the scope when applying a glTexParameter (specifically the filtering)? Here's a scenario: Bind a texture. Set the filters to LINEAR Set the texture to "Sampler1" of a shader Bind another texture. Set its filters to NEAREST Set that texture to "Sampler2" of a shader Draw When I use the textures in a shader, will one be linear and the other be nearest? Or will they both be nearest because it was called last? 2) Is it possible to set the filtering method in GLSL? Thanks in advance!

  • level of control of the os on the phone hardware

    - by gurnisht
Hello. I am new to Android and mobile phones development. I want to develop an application that needs to have a total control over the "phone" of the smartphone, i.e. controlling all the communication of the GSM chip with the cellular system, accessing the SIM card identity that it sends (encrypted) to the cellular system, disabling the cellular antenna and resuming it back, and more of that kind... Can it be done with Android? Does the software (OS) have control over all of the phone components in a smartphone, or there are some parts that are done in the hardware level only? (I guess that the Android API won't enable me to do everything i want, but even theoretically is it possible if I recompile the OS after making the changes there?) Thanks!

  • Block call in Ruby on Rails

    - by Mattias
Hi, I'm trying to clean up my code and get rid of a lot of ugly hashes. In my views I define several actions like this: @actions = { :interest => {'Show interest', link_to(..), :disabled => true}, :follow => {'Follow this case', link_to(..)} ... } As these hashes grow, the maintainability decreases. I want to convert the above format to something like: actions do item :interest, 'Show interest', link_to(..), :disabled => true item :follow, 'Follow', link_to(..) ... end How do I structure my helper methods to allow this? Preferably the 'item'-method should only be available in the 'actions' block and not in the global scope. Thanks!

  • TextMate Theme Select Attribute Value

    - by HelpAppreciated
Hello, I need to change the color of certain attributes/tags. I am switching from Dreamweaver and making the skin has been really hard in TextMate. As you can see, I want to change the a and img tags along with all of their attributes. The closest I've come to find is entity.other.attribute-name which only works with id for some reason entity.other.attribute-name.id Bonus would be the scope selector for the value of an attribute, e.g. "Logo" alt in the above example. Thank You!

  • Trying to exlcude VTI* paths in MSIDXS sql select statement

    - by Catdirt
Hi, using a c# asp.net page, building a SQL query string to run against an index server catalog: string SQL = "SELECT doctitle, vpath, Path, Write, Size, Rank "; SQL += "FROM \"" + strCatalog + "\"..SCOPE() "; SQL += "WHERE"; SQL += " CONTAINS(Contents, '" + strQP + "') "; SQL += "AND NOT CONTAINS(Path, '\"_vti_\"') "; SQL += "AND NOT CONTAINS(FileName, '\".ascx\" OR \".config\" OR \".css\"') "; SQL += "ORDER BY Rank DESC"; Seems to work fine, except it will return results in the _vti_ directories which I am trying to avoid. Edit: All but asked question, so to be technical: How can I search the index and have it not return files from the vti folders? Switching to use an ixsso query object is possible, but i'd rather avoid it for this particular instance.
