  • Font scaling issue in win 7

    - by NewProger
I have a problem with font scaling in Win 7. I tried to search but found no apparent solution to this. About the problem: It manifest itself in older games (from Win 95 era). For example I get this in "Demise rise of the kutan", and in some other games I don't get any errors but the fonts are completely out of place/alignment/size etc. Is there way to fix it so that I can run older programs/games?

  • Android : changing Locale within the app itself

    - by Hubert
    My users can change the Locale within the app (they may want to keep their phone settings in English but read the content of my app in French, Dutch or any other language ...) Why is this working perfectly fine in 1.5/1.6 but NOT in 2.0 anymore ??? @Override public boolean onOptionsItemSelected(MenuItem item) { switch(item.getItemId()){ case 201: Locale locale2 = new Locale("fr"); Locale.setDefault(locale2); Configuration config2 = new Configuration(); config2.locale = locale2; getBaseContext().getResources().updateConfiguration(config2, getBaseContext().getResources().getDisplayMetrics()); // loading data ... refresh(); // refresh the tabs and their content refresh_Tab (); break; case 201: etc... The problem is that the MENU "shrinks" more and more everytime the user is going through the lines of code above ... This is the Menu that gets shrunk: @Override public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) { menu.add(0, 100, 1, "REFRESH").setIcon(android.R.drawable.ic_menu_compass); SubMenu langMenu = menu.addSubMenu(0, 200, 2, "NL-FR").setIcon(android.R.drawable.ic_menu_rotate); langMenu.add(1, 201, 0, "Nederlands"); langMenu.add(1, 202, 0, "Français"); menu.add(0, 250, 4, R.string.OptionMenu2).setIcon(android.R.drawable.ic_menu_send); menu.add(0, 300, 5, R.string.OptionMenu3).setIcon(android.R.drawable.ic_menu_preferences); menu.add(0, 350, 3, R.string.OptionMenu4).setIcon(android.R.drawable.ic_menu_more); menu.add(0, 400, 6, "Exit").setIcon(android.R.drawable.ic_menu_delete); return super.onCreateOptionsMenu(menu); } What should I do in API Level 5 to make this work again ? HERE IS THE FULL CODE IF YOU WANT TO TEST THIS : import java.util.Locale; import android.app.Activity; import android.content.res.Configuration; import android.os.Bundle; import android.view.Menu; import android.view.MenuItem; import android.view.SubMenu; import android.widget.Toast; public class Main extends Activity { /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); } @Override public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) { SubMenu langMenu = menu.addSubMenu(0, 200, 2, "NL-FR").setIcon(android.R.drawable.ic_menu_rotate); langMenu.add(1, 201, 0, "Nederlands"); langMenu.add(1, 202, 0, "Français"); return super.onCreateOptionsMenu(menu); } @Override public boolean onOptionsItemSelected(MenuItem item) { switch(item.getItemId()){ case 201: Locale locale = new Locale("nl"); Locale.setDefault(locale); Configuration config = new Configuration(); config.locale = locale; getBaseContext().getResources().updateConfiguration(config, getBaseContext().getResources().getDisplayMetrics()); Toast.makeText(this, "Locale in Nederlands !", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show(); break; case 202: Locale locale2 = new Locale("fr"); Locale.setDefault(locale2); Configuration config2 = new Configuration(); config2.locale = locale2; getBaseContext().getResources().updateConfiguration(config2, getBaseContext().getResources().getDisplayMetrics()); Toast.makeText(this, "Locale en Français !", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show(); break; } return super.onOptionsItemSelected(item); } } AND HERE IS THE MANIFEST : <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" package="com.cousinHub.ChangeLocale" android:versionCode="1" android:versionName="1.0"> <application android:icon="@drawable/icon" android:label="@string/app_name"> <activity android:name=".Main" android:label="@string/app_name"> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" /> </intent-filter> </activity> </application> <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="3" /> </manifest> THIS IS WHAT I FOUND : <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="5" /> = IT WORKS JUST FINE ... <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="3" /> = Menu shrinks every time you change the locale !!! as I want to keep my application accessible for users on 1.5, what should I do ??

  • Couldn't get connection factory client - fighting with Google Maps

    - by iie
    another day another problem, I finally managed to set up correctly google maps on my android application, or at least I thought I've done it, the whole progam starts, it even call the class which should "print" a map, but the only thing I can see is a grid with google label on it [ in the corner ]. I've checked the dalvik monitor and the error E/MapActivity(394): Couldn't get connection factory client occurs. I've find out on stackoverflow website that I should sent a gps signal or sth like this from dalvik monitor, and I've done it. Nothing happend, also I got the api key one more time, but nothing changed. here is map.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <!-- This file is /res/layout/mapview.xml --> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="horizontal" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> <Button android:id="@+id/zoomin" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="+" android:onClick="myClickHandler" android:padding="12px" /> <Button android:id="@+id/zoomout" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="-" android:onClick="myClickHandler" android:padding="12px" /> <Button android:id="@+id/sat" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Satellite" android:onClick="myClickHandler" android:padding="8px" /> <Button android:id="@+id/street" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Street" android:onClick="myClickHandler" android:padding="8px" /> <Button android:id="@+id/traffic" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Traffic" android:onClick="myClickHandler" android:padding="8px" /> <Button android:id="@+id/normal" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Normal" android:onClick="myClickHandler" android:padding="8px" /> </LinearLayout> <com.google.android.maps.MapView android:id="@+id/mapview" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:clickable="true" android:apiKey="0zPcz1VYRSpLusufJ2JoL0ffl2uxDMovgpW319w" /> </LinearLayout> here is a MapMapa.java public class MapMapa extends MapActivity { private MapView mapView; @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.map); mapView = (MapView)findViewById(R.id.mapview); } public void myClickHandler(View target) { switch(target.getId()) { case R.id.zoomin: mapView.getController().zoomIn(); break; case R.id.zoomout: mapView.getController().zoomOut(); break; case R.id.sat: mapView.setSatellite(true); break; case R.id.street: mapView.setStreetView(true); break; case R.id.traffic: mapView.setTraffic(true); break; case R.id.normal: mapView.setSatellite(false); mapView.setStreetView(false); mapView.setTraffic(false); break; } } @Override protected boolean isLocationDisplayed() { return false; } @Override protected boolean isRouteDisplayed() { return false; } manifest.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" package="menu.dot" android:versionCode="1" ndroid:versionName="1.0"> <application android:label="@string/app_name" android:icon="@drawable/icon"> <uses-library android:name="com.google.android.maps" /> <activity android:name="MainActivity" android:label="@string/app_name"> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" /> </intent-filter> </activity> <activity android:name=".About"> android:label="@string/about_title" android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Dialog" > </activity> <activity android:name=".Exit"> andorid:label="@string/exit_title"> </activity> <activity android:name=".Options"> </activity> <activity android:name=".Start"> </activity> <activity android:name=".Create"> </activity> <activity android:name=".Where"> </activity> <activity android:name=".Proceed"> </activity> <activity android:name=".Finish"> </activity> <activity android:name=".Login"> </activity> <activity android:name=".OK"> </activity> <activity android:name=".UserPanel"> </activity> <activity android:name=".Managero"> </activity> <activity android:name=".Edition"> </activity> <activity android:name=".Done"> </activity> <activity android:name=".Delete"> </activity> <activity android:name=".MapMapa"> </activity> </application> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION"/> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION"/> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET"/> <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="3" /> </manifest>

  • My app has some basic problems, and it stops working

    - by user2882662
I am writing a basic application which contains two activities. Both contain a TextView showing the title and the first one contains an EditText in which the user types a message and clicks on a button on its side, the second activity is launched which shows the message the user types. It has the following problems: The title (the first TextView in both the activities) doesn't show in the middle of the line, despite of the android:gravity="center_horizontal" attribute. The EditText in the first activity does not show at all. When I click on the button, the app stops saying "Unfortunately Write n Display and stopped.", rather than launching the second activity at all. I don't have adequate knowledge about logcat, but I have followed the steps somebody had told me, that is WindowOpen Perspective Other DDMS Then run the app and select the package name from the Devices and click on log cat, select the exception(s) and export to text file. All contained in the text file is : : E/(): Device disconnected: 1 Since I am not sure of using log cat, so I am posting a screenshot to make clear what I have done. • Calling Status Bar notification from method from other class.

    - by Jez Fischer
Firstly, I am new to both android and Java. I have two classes, my main.class and Note.class. I am calling the notification method from my Note.class in my main.class when i press a button. The issue is with this line from the Note.class : PendingIntent contentIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0, notificationIntent, 0); notification.setLatestEventInfo(context, contentTitle, contentText, contentIntent); When the method is called it force closes. I believe the problem to be with the "this" in PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0, notificationIntent, 0);, but I am unsure what to change it to. The notification code works fine if it's in the main class. I would be very grateful for any guidance. Edit: Main class : http://pastebin.com/05Yx0a48 Note.class : package com.adamblanchard.remindme.com.adamblanchard; import com.adamblanchard.remindme.R; import android.app.Activity; import android.app.Notification; import android.app.NotificationManager; import android.app.PendingIntent; import android.content.Context; import android.content.Intent; import android.os.Bundle; public class Note extends Activity { public CharSequence note = "not changed"; int HELLO_ID = 1; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); setTitle("Remind Me!"); } //Notification Method public void callNotification() { // TODO Auto-generated method stub String ns = Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE; final NotificationManager mNotificationManager = (NotificationManager) getSystemService(ns); int icon = R.drawable.launcher; CharSequence tickerText = "Remind Me!"; long when = System.currentTimeMillis(); final Notification notification = new Notification(icon, tickerText, when); notification.flags |= Notification.FLAG_AUTO_CANCEL; final Context context = getApplicationContext(); CharSequence contentTitle = "Remind Me!"; CharSequence contentText = note; Intent notificationIntent = new Intent(context, AndroidNotifications.class); PendingIntent contentIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0, notificationIntent, 0); notification.setLatestEventInfo(context, contentTitle, contentText, contentIntent); mNotificationManager.notify(HELLO_ID, notification); HELLO_ID++; } } Debug Output : Thread [<1 main] (Suspended (exception IllegalStateException)) Note(Activity).getSystemService(String) line: 3536 Note.callNotification() line: 37 remindme$1$1.onClick(DialogInterface, int) line: 72 AlertDialog(AlertController$ButtonHandler).handleMessage(Message) line: 159 AlertController$ButtonHandler(Handler).dispatchMessage(Message) line: 99 Looper.loop() line: 123 ActivityThread.main(String[]) line: 3647 Method.invokeNative(Object, Object[], Class, Class[], Class, int, boolean) line: not available [native method] Method.invoke(Object, Object...) line: 507 ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run() line: 839 ZygoteInit.main(String[]) line: 597 NativeStart.main(String[]) line: not available [native method] This is the debug output I get, plus a force close popup on the device. • "Class ref in pre-verified class resolved to unexpected implementation" when running android tests i

    - by Mike
I have a module that builds an app called MyApp. I have another that builds some testcases for that app, called MyAppTests. They both build their own APKs, and they both work fine from within my IDE. I'd like to build them using ant so that I can take advantage of continuous integration. Building the app module works fine. I'm having difficulty getting the Test module to compile and run. Using Christopher's tip from a previous question, I used android create test-project -p MyAppTests -m ../MyApp -n MyAppTests to create the necessary build files to build and run my test project. This seems to work great (once I remove an unnecessary test case that it constructed for me and revert my AndroidManifest.xml to the one I was using before it got replaced by android create), but I have two problems. The first problem: The project doesn't compile because it's missing libraries. $ ant run-tests Buildfile: build.xml [setup] Project Target: Google APIs [setup] Vendor: Google Inc. • Can't build and run an android test project created using "ant create test-project" when tested proj

[setup] Platform Version: 1.6 [setup] API level: 4 [setup] WARNING: No minSdkVersion value set. • SLK opens SCORM package as a ZIP file

    - by Cherie Riesberg
Symptom: After installing SharePoint Learning Kit successfully, (http://www.codeplex.com/SLK), everything works except that the SCORM package (a ZIP extension) is opening as a ZIP file instead of a course. You get the normal ZIP message "Do you want to open or save this file?" Problem: The package is zipped at the upper folder level and does not create a manifest that allows SharePoint to recognize it as a SCORM file instead of a ZIP file. Solution: Add the contents of the course to the ZIP, not the outer (uppermost) folder.  This creates a ZIP file that SharePoint can recognize as a SCORM package.

  • Create bootable USB install image from command line?

    - by j-g-faustus
I'm trying to create a bootable USB image to install Ubuntu on a new computer. I have done this before following the "create USB drive" instructions for Ubuntu desktop, but I don't have an Ubuntu desktop available. How can I do the same using only the command line? Things I've tried: Create bootable USB on Mac OS X following the ubuntu.com "create USB drive" instructions for Mac: Doesn't boot. usb-creator: According to apt-cache search usb-creator and Wikipedia usb-creator only exists as a graphical tool. "Create manually" instructions at help.ubuntu.com: None of the files and directories described (e.g. casper, filesystem.manifest, menu.lst) exist in the ISO image, and I don't know what has replaced them. (At my disposal is Mac OS X and Ubuntu server; I have neither Ubuntu desktop nor Windows.)

  • Downloading specific video renditions in WebCenter Content

    - by Kyle Hatlestad
I recently had a question come up on one of my previous blog articles about downloading a specific video rendition.  When accessing image renditions, you simply need to pass in the 'Rendition=<rendition name>' parameter on the GET_FILE service and it will be returned.  But when you try that with videos, you get the error message, "Unable to download '<Content ID>'. The rendition or attachment '<Rendition Name>' could not be found in the list manifest of the revision with internal revision ID '<dID>'. [Read More]

  • Including slick2d or slick-util in maven build?

    - by BotskoNet
I'm converting a project to lwjgl and trying to use slick-util as well. There's no slick-util maven repo anywhere (nor slick2d itself anymore). I've included local dependancies before using <dependency> <groupId>org.newdawn</groupId> <artifactId>slick</artifactId> <version>237</version> <scope>system</scope> <systemPath>${project.basedir}/lib/slick-util.jar</systemPath> </dependency> The maven package process runs without issue, but when I try to run the jar, it errors out with a ClassNotFoundException. There's no mention of slick-util in the manifest and I can't find out how to make my game load that jar properly. Side question: how do I ensure when I distribute my applications, the game properly installs these libraries?

  • Adventures in Windows 8: Solving activation errors

    - by Laurent Bugnion
Note: I tagged this article with “MVVM” because I got a few support requests for MVVM Light regarding this exact issue. In fact it is a Windows 8 issue and has nothing to do with MVVM Light per se… Sometimes when you work on a Windows 8 app, you will get a very annoying issue when starting the app. In that case, the app doesn’t not even start past the Splash screen. Putting a breakpoint in App.xaml.cs doesn’t help because the app doesn’t even reach that point! So what exactly is happening? Well when a Windows 8 app starts, the system is performing a few check first. One of the checks, for instance, is to see if an app with the same package ID is already available. The package ID is a unique value set in the package manifest. In the Solution Explorer, double click on Package.appxmanifest. This opens the manifest in a special editor Click on the Packaging tab See the GUID under Package Name. This is the unique ID I am talking about. If there is a conflict (i.e. if an app is already installed with the exact same ID), Windows will warm the user that the app is already installed. However when you are in the process of developing an app, you install and uninstall the same app many many times (every time that you start in Visual Studio), and sometimes some issues arise, for instance failing to uninstall the app before starting the new instance of the same app. First step if you get such an error When the application fails to start past the splash screen, the first step is to identify what kind of error happened. In my experience the “already installed” is by far the most frequent (in fact I never had another such error), but it can be something else. An annoying thing is that the popup that shows the error is usually started below the Windows 8 app, and so you don’t even see it! This is especially true if you run this in the Simulator. In that case, do the following: Press on the Simulator’s home button, then press on the Desktop tile on the Start menu. The error popup should be shown on the desktop. If your applications runs on the Local machine, you also do the same and press the Windows button, and then from the Start menu press the Desktop tile. Deployment error in Studio Sometimes the same error causes Visual Studio to fail launching the application at all with a deployment error. This is a better case, because at least it is clear that there is an issue. In that case, write down the code that is shown in the Error window (for instance 0x80073D05 in the example below). Once you have the error code, go to the “Troubleshooting packaging, deployment, and query of Windows Store apps” page and look up the code in question. In my case, the error was “ERROR_DELETING_EXISTING_APPLICATIONDATA_STORE_FAILED”, “An error occurred while deleting the package's previously existing application data.” Solving the “ERROR_DELETING_EXISTING_APPLICATIONDATA_STORE_FAILED” issue Update: Before trying the below, you can also try the simple steps: Exit Visual Studio Go to the Start menu Locate your app’s tile. It should be visible in the Start menu directly, towards the far end on the right. Right click the tile and select Uninstall from the App Bar. Restart Visual Studio and try again. Sometimes it helps. If it doesn’t, then try the following: In order to solve the case where Windows, for any reason, fails to delete the existing application before starting the new instance, follow the steps: Open the Package.appxmanifest in Visual Studio Open the Packaging tab. Change the Package name. For tests you can just try to change the last character of the GUID, though I would recommend creating a brand new GUID. Press Start Type GUID Start the GUID Generator application Select Registry Format Press Copy. Paste the new GUID in place of the Package Name in Visual Studio Important: don’t forget to remove the curly brackets at the beginning and at the end of the newly pasted GUID. Then you just have to cross your fingers and start the application again… If it works, celebrate. if it doesn’t work… well at this point I am not sure so good luck with that ;) Happy coding, Laurent   Laurent Bugnion (GalaSoft) Subscribe | Twitter | Facebook | Flickr | LinkedIn

  • @OnStart & @OnStop

    - by Geertjan
In applications based on NetBeans Platform 7.2, you'll be able to replace all your ModuleInstall classes with this code: import org.openide.modules.OnStart; import org.openide.modules.OnStop; @OnStart public final class Installer implements Runnable { @Override public void run() { System.out.println("enable something..."); } @OnStop public static final class Down implements Runnable { @Override public void run() { System.out.println("disable something..."); } } } Build the module and the annotations result in named services, thanks to @NamedServiceDefinition: Aside from no longer needing to register the ModuleInstall class in the manifest, performance of startup will be enhanced, if you use the above approach: https://netbeans.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=200636

Can this information be specified in app.config or manifest file to avoid dynamic loading and dynamic invocation?

  • LNK2005: delete already defined error in VC++

    - by user333422
Hi, I am newbie to VC++, so please forgive me if this is stupid. I have got 7 solutions under one project. Six of these build static libraries which is linked inside 7th to produce an exe. The runtime configuration of all the projects is MultiThreaded Debug. sln which is used to produce exe is using MFC other slns use standard runtiem library. I tried changing those to MFC, but still I am getting the same error. All the six slns build successfully. When I try to build exe - get the follwoing error: nafxcwd.lib(afxmem.obj) : error LNK2005: "void __cdecl operator delete(void *,int, char const *,int)" (??3@YAXPAXHPBDH@Z) already defined in tara_common.lib(fileStream.obj) This is weird because tara_common is one of the libs that I generated and fileStream.cpp is file that is just using delete on a pointer. • How to compile jsoup through Ant?

    - by JackWM
I tried to use Ant to compile the jsoup source. I can compile successfully, but cannot pass the test. Here is the process: jsoup version: 1.6.3 ; Ant version: 1.8.2 the source of jsoup is in the directory src/ I made a build file src/build.xml This file contains <project name="jsoup"> <target name="compile"> <mkdir dir="build/classes"/> <javac srcdir="src" destdir="build/classes" includeantruntime="false"/> </target> <target name="jar"> <mkdir dir="build/jar"/> <jar destfile="build/jar/jsoup.jar" basedir="build/classes"> <manifest> <attribute name="Main-Class" value="StateTrace"/> </manifest> </jar> </target> <target name="run"> <!--<java jar="build/jar/jsoup.jar" input="htmls/index.html" fork="true"/>--> <exec executable="java"> <arg value="-jar"/> <arg value="build/jar/jsoup.jar"/> <arg value="htmls/index.html"/> </exec> </target> </project> Note: 1. StateTrace.java is my own test program; 2. htmls/index.html is the input to StateTrace.java. Then I compile and run it with Ant: > ant compile > ant jar > ant run After this, I got err like: run: [exec] Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError [exec] at org.jsoup.nodes.Entities$EscapeMode.<clinit>(Unknown Source) [exec] at org.jsoup.nodes.Document$OutputSettings.<init>(Unknown Source) [exec] at org.jsoup.nodes.Document.<init>(Unknown Source) [exec] at org.jsoup.parser.TreeBuilder.initialiseParse(Unknown Source) [exec] at org.jsoup.parser.TreeBuilder.parse(Unknown Source) [exec] at org.jsoup.parser.HtmlTreeBuilder.parse(Unknown Source) [exec] at org.jsoup.parser.Parser.parse(Unknown Source) [exec] at org.jsoup.Jsoup.parse(Unknown Source) [exec] at StateTrace.main(Unknown Source) [exec] Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException [exec] at java.util.Properties$LineReader.readLine(Properties.java:418) [exec] at java.util.Properties.load0(Properties.java:337) [exec] at java.util.Properties.load(Properties.java:325) [exec] at org.jsoup.nodes.Entities.loadEntities(Unknown Source) [exec] at org.jsoup.nodes.Entities.<clinit>(Unknown Source) [exec] ... 9 more [exec] Result: 1 BUILD SUCCESSFUL Total time: 0 seconds However, if I manually compiled all the java source, like javac src/org/jsoup/*.java src/org/jsoup/parser/*.java src/org/jsoup/examples/*.java src/org/jsoup/nodes/*.java src/org/jsoup/safety/*.java src/org/jsoup/select/*.java src/org/jsoup/helper/*.java I could compile successfully and pass my test. Any clue? Thanks!

  • ClickOnce Deployment of an Application with more then one executable file

    - by Ahron Levi
Hi I am trying to deploy an application with two executable files one of which is the application it self. I used the publish tub on the VS 2008 and tried to publish manually using the MageUI.exe. in both cases I get the "Reference in the manifest does not match the identity of the downloaded assembly" error in regards to the second executable file. Dose Any one know how to publish an application with two executable files? Thanks, Ahron
